Back in May, information surfaced in various sources about the launch by the Korean corporation Samsung in the production of a new series of smartphones of the "galactic" line, Galaxy J. The official release of the first two devices, J5 and , took place in June 2015.

In 2016, Samsung released a new version of the Galaxy J5, with the article number SM-J510, which we reviewed at this link. This review is dedicated to J5 2015.

Samsung Galaxy J5 is a solution, although typical for Samsung, but it was not without innovations. In addition to the traditional hardware and functionality typical for a mid-range smartphone, the device received a front-facing flash. Now you can take a selfie in the evening. Girls who have taken to shooting self-portraits in recent years should appreciate it.

The design of the smartphone does not stand out from the background of other devices of the Galaxy line, outwardly the device is almost identical to its "brother" E5. These are the same straight lines of the case, rounded corners and a rim stylized as metal.
The branded Home button, located under the screen, has not gone anywhere either. The front flash is striking, the eye of which is visible near the speaker for talking. It is located symmetrically to the front camera lens. Of the color schemes, black and white body options are currently available.

The cost of the smartphone in the Chinese market was about $225. At the beginning of 2016, its cost is less than $ 200.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy J5 SM-J500H

The model turned out to be interesting in terms of innovations and attractive in terms of hardware. Due to the balanced technical characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy J5 can be confidently attributed to the middle class.

CPU

The novelty is based on the Quallcomm Snapdragon 410 mid-range processor. It is equipped with four cores operating at a frequency of up to 1.2 GHz. The performance of this chip is average, in the popular AnTuTu benchmark it will be possible to get about 20 thousand points. Against the background of 50 - 65 thousand for the flagships - it looks modest. But in comparison with the closest competitor, MT6582 from the Taiwanese MTK, the performance gain is about 2000 points.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 GPU, Adreno 306, allows the smartphone to handle most existing games, including the relatively voracious World of Tanks.

Memory

RAM in Samsung Galaxy J5 1.5 GB. The indicator is rather non-standard for smartphones, but this is not the first South Korean device equipped with such a large amount of RAM. There is enough memory for both the basic needs of users and those who tend to load their device to the fullest.

The dual-sim version of the Samsung Galaxy J5 J500H is equipped with 8 GB of internal memory (against 16 for an analogue with a single SIM card slot). Small, but not scary: there is a slot for a memory card, modules up to 64 GB are supported.

Battery

The battery of the Samsung Galaxy J5 is removable, it has a capacity of 2600 mAh. The autonomy indicators are not bad, only the time of work in games let us down. So, in reading mode or web surfing, the smartphone will last 10-13 hours, depending on the color of the displayed information (thanks to the AMOLED display). Watching movies will use up the battery a little faster: up to 12 hours. But three-dimensional toys make the milliamps of the battery in the Samsung Galaxy J5 "melt before our eyes": 3.5 - 4 hours and a fully charged battery "goes to zero". We write about smartphones with the best batteries in this section.

Camera

There are two cameras here, the main one is 13 MP and the front one is 5. An interesting fact is that both are equipped with flashes. True, the front camera does not have autofocus. But it supports shooting video in FullHD, and the videos are quite good. As for the photo, everything is fine with this too. In normal lighting conditions, both cameras are able to take a decent picture, noise and blur appear only when shooting in the dark.

The main photomodule is better adapted to work in twilight thanks to a more powerful flash. But the additional camera has software algorithms for improving the quality of face shooting, which lovers of self-portraits will definitely appreciate.

Display

AMOLED screens are Samsung's signature feature (we wrote about the features and differences of such screens from others at the link). Of course, other companies also install such matrices in their devices, but it was the South Korean company that managed to achieve the best results in this field. The Samsung Galaxy J5 has a five-inch display with HD resolution (1280x720 pixels). The DPI is 294 pixels per inch, which is an acceptable result for a mid-range device.

The picture quality of the Samsung Galaxy J5 is good, there are no color distortions even when viewing the image on the screen at an angle. There is also enough brightness, it is quite possible to read the inscriptions on the display in direct sunlight.

Data transfer

Model J500H is equipped with two slots for SIM cards in MicroSIM format. In addition to the standard GSM and 3G standards for modern smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy J5 also supports LTE networks (what is it?). Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 are also present. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the GPS-navigator: the smartphone quickly finds satellites and gets in touch with them.

Sound

The multimedia capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy J5 are average. The sound is loud, but too "dry": bass and mids are not enough. Everything is much better in headphones: low frequencies already appear there, there are no noises, and the volume level is still decent. If you are interested in smartphones with good sound, then you should read our selection.

OS

The Samsung Galaxy J5 is running Android Lolipop version 5.1, and the proprietary TouchWiz interface is used as a graphical shell. Compared to flagships, the capabilities of this launcher are somewhat limited. The surprise was the lack of a full-fledged player with the ability to play music from a flash drive. In general, the OS works stably, there are no brakes and unexpected “crashes” of applications.

In October 2016, the smartphone began receiving the update to Android 6.0.1 in the Netherlands and it is possible that the update will appear in other countries.

Pros and cons of Samsung Galaxy J5 SM-J500H

Advantages of Samsung Galaxy J5:

  • front flash;
  • LTE support;
  • two SIM cards;
  • good screen;
  • confident work with GPS;
  • capacious battery.

Smartphone Disadvantages:

  • not enough built-in memory (8 GB);
  • mediocre sound on the speaker;
  • in games quickly discharged.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy J5 is a mid-range smartphone with balanced parameters. Although it is inferior to the flagship models, the implementation of the main functionality did not let us down. Our review revealed that the smartphone has more pluses than minuses, so the impression of the device was positive.

Thanks to its versatile design, the Samsung Galaxy J5 will suit both the selfie lover (the front-facing flash comes in handy here) and those who prefer to look at photos and videos rather than take them. Connoisseurs of mobile toys may be disappointed in the smartphone, in which the Samsung Galaxy J5 can be discharged at the most unexpected moment.

Review Samsung Galaxy J5 (J500H)

Hello everyone. Now I am holding in my hands a new model of the J (J) line from the Korean manufacturer Samsung - Galaxy J5. This model belongs to the middle price category, but has very good features. Those. can be described as a smart phone at a moderate price. I would also like to add that this model is the “younger brother” of the newly appeared J7 and contains all the same set of characteristics, only simplified.

In fact, the device is a selfie smartphone, since the manufacturer has placed another one in the flash on the front panel near the front camera. Well, we will check this statement. Here we go?The body materials are the most standard - it's plastic and glass. And in total, the smartphone looks like this, typical Samsung. The corners are rounded, the bezel is made to look like metal, the body lines are even, without bends.I won’t say that the plastic is very easily soiled, but the prints still remain during use. The model is available in three colors: black, white and grey. I have a black version on the review, as you can see.

On the left side there is a power button, on the right side there is a volume rocker. From the bottom you can see the connectors for the headset and microUSB, as well as a microphone. The rear panel houses the main camera, LED flash, speaker and logo. On the front side there is a front camera, a flash, proximity and light sensors and a speaker, and at the bottom of the screen there are two touch and one mechanical keys.

The smartphone is more or less comfortable to hold in your hand. I don't have any claims. I did not observe squeaks, there were no staggering parts during the entire time of my use. The dimensions of the device are as follows: 142 x 73 x 8.5 mm, and the weight is 149 g.

The screen diagonal of the J5 is 5 inches, with HD resolution and a density of 294 dpi. Naturally, the matrix here is SuperAMOLED, there can’t even be questions. In principle, the color reproduction of the screen is not bad, and the viewing angles too. If you turn it at different angles, then there are color defects, but still this is acceptable for a model of the middle price segment. What's more, the clarity of the picture is excellent. Brightness here, too, did not regret. In sunny weather, you can be sure that there will be no unnecessary problems with viewing the screen.

Both cameras are equipped with flashes. And this is a feature of this smartphone. Yes, it can be called Selifan, because the resolution of the front camera is 5 MPa, and besides, it is wide-angle, which will allow you to capture more space in the frame. The pictures come out well. With good lighting, noise is not observed. And in case of bad - a flash comes to the rescue.

The main camera module is 13 MPa. Its aperture is f/1.9. There is autofocus and a second flash. The pictures are of high quality, as for such a device. I have no comments.

Video shooting is supported in FullHD resolution.The J5's volume range is wide. But lacks bass and clarity of sound. But this is only when playing through the speaker. If you connect a headset, then such small troubles are not observed. The sound is good.

The core of the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The graphics chip in this device is Adreno 306, with the help of which the smartphone copes with a lot of voracious games. Yes, the processor is not the most powerful, that's for sure. But the smartphone is quite enough for everyday work. Games also load fine. Some hitches were observed in 3D games, but this is not critical. In general, the performance is good.

The Galaxy J5 has 1.5 GB of RAM, built-in - 8, which of course is not enough, but this is solved by connecting an SD card up to 64 GB, a slot for which, thank God, is provided. And then you look at the latest flagships from Samsung and it makes you shudder. Do they really feel sorry for the extra slot to make a memory card. No, the manufacturer prefers to limit users in this regard. So it's good that here you can expand the memory without unnecessary overpayments.

The battery of this model is removable, with a capacity of 2600 mAh. In principle, the indicator is good for such a device. Well, this is my personal opinion. In the Internet surfing mode, the smartphone lived for about 12 hours, while watching a video for about 11, but in the toy mode it ran out for 4 hours. In general, with mixed mode, the phone will last for a day. If you do not constantly pull it, then it will work for two days for sure. The device supports a number of interfaces: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0, LTE. Not only the battery is hidden under the back cover, but also two slots for Micro SIM cards. There is only one radio module, so one card will not be available while you are talking on the other. As for navigation, GPS and GLONASS perform their functions perfectly.

The operating system is Android 5.1 Lollipop, with a proprietary shell from Samsung TouchWiz. The platform works great. The only remark is the lack of a native player as such, there is Play Music, but personally I'm more comfortable using the player from Samsung.

Well, the gadget is pretty nice. Good set of useful features and reasonable price. For those who love selfies, the presence of a front flash in general is an excellent argument for buying this device. But of course it's up to you to decide.

Pros: Everything works like a Swiss watch! Updated regularly now android 6.0.1
Cons: Slippery and easily scratched, you need a cover and glass on the screen, which are difficult to find
Feedback: I read the reviews and there is no limit to surprise)) for someone the camera is bad, everything lathers, for others it is dull .. for others, the battery runs out in an hour)) someone didn’t put headphones .. and so on .. Guys and girls you have or hands curves or you bought a smart from the metro for 3-4 thousand, I saw such ones myself .. of course everything will be sloppy there .. and so that the camera does not soap, you need your hands not to shake))

Pros: Display, smart device, headphone sound, navigation
Cons: Smooth back cover - a bit slippery.
On trifles - there are no chips like auto-brightness, tracking the user (when you hold the phone in front of your face, it is not blocked), choosing a color profile for the display.
Review: Bought about a month ago. Android 6 was out of the box.
Satisfied with the device
Very good display, the brightness is enough for about 30-40%. When you turn on the "outdoor" mode, it becomes so bright that you can use it as a very bright flashlight.
Holds a charge well. Here, in general, it is determined by the consumption of the display: what to watch a movie from the phone card, what to read a book or on the Internet - almost the same consumption of 7-10% of the battery per hour. If you watch a movie via Wi-Fi, then battery consumption increases dramatically. Those. watching movies and reading is enough for 10 hours. And if in dialer mode, then maybe for a week. I recharge percent from 40-60 a couple of times a week.
Reliable and fast navigation. In the car, on the move, the location is determined in 30 seconds, no more.
RAM is enough above the roof, free memory is at least 300MB.
Great sound in headphones. I use Xiaomi MI 3 headphones and Player Pro.
Comfortable, without excess shell.
With the camera is not entirely clear. It seems that the software part compresses jpeg too much. A 13 megapixel photo is about 3 megabytes in size.

Pros: Design, Super Amoled display, Not a bad camera, front camera is also like nothing, Speaker, sound when listening to music
Cons: no 4G, stupid sometimes, 8gb of memory is not enough, the battery is rather weak, dim native flashlight (corrected by the latest phone update)
Review: I have had this phone for about 1 year, I'll start with the fact that immediately after I bought it, I began to regret it after 1-2 months, BUT now, 1 year after I updated the phone to the latest, some bugs that bothered me were removed, for example, if I charged the bodies not from my native charge, sometimes I could charge for 7-9 hours, now everything is ok, it was also very infuriating that when you drive in a car and you need to turn off the Internet, the data transfer button after the exit still asks are you really sure. ??? ....))) press OK every time, also a flashlight, very dim, the last update fixed the problem, the phone was stupid very often from the beginning of the purchase, it could turn off, or close the window on its own, it seems that the latest updates have fixed the situation, no 4G , stupid sometimes (1gb of RAM is not enough), It also turned off sometimes slowed down, or updates fixed it or stopped being stupid on its own, also 8gb of memory is not enough, there is nowhere to download applications, battery (with more active use, 1 day is enough), dim native lantern(and copes with the latest phone update)
In general, I was more or less satisfied after using 1 year when new phone updates came out and seemed to have resolved some of the problems, for such a price it is worth its money
Recommend worth the money
