Lenovo S939 - Specifications. The SIM card is used in mobile devices to store data that certifies the authenticity of mobile service subscribers

Smartphones with a large screen diagonal are increasingly gaining a place in the sun. The desire of the consumer to comfortably watch videos, work with documents, surf the Internet, play games on their mobile phone finds a response in the lines of devices from leading manufacturers, and more and more models with a display size of 6 inches appear on sale. According to the user reviews of the China-review portal about Chinese mobile phones, more than 20 percent of its readers want to buy a device with a large display. Today we provide you with a review of the Lenovo S939 phablet from one of the leaders in the global mobile phone market, Lenovo.

Specifications

Lenovo's "S" series denotes a line designed primarily for entertainment and multimedia, and in such tasks, large screen sizes are a definite advantage. But if we ignore the large display diagonal of the hero of our review and study its technical characteristics, Lenovo S939 is quite a typical middle peasant.

First of all, in the description of the parameters of the smartphone, two points attract attention. The amount of RAM of 1 GB today is more typical for budget devices and may not be enough in demanding applications, especially games. But this smartphone has a high-performance MediaTek MTK6592 octa-core processor, which promises excellent system performance under heavy load.

The battery has a good capacity, which allows us to hope that it will be able to successfully cope with the appetites of a voracious high-frequency and multi-core processor.

In general, we can say that the popularity of this solution will depend on its price. Lenovo is not accustomed to abusing the excessive price of its devices, and even after it appeared on the market at the beginning of the year, the model managed to decently fall in price. For November, 2014 it is possible to buy Lenovo S939 at the price approximately in 3000 UAH that makes 188 US dollars. This cost for a model with such parameters seems to us quite reasonable.

Description

The delivery set of Lenovo S939 can be called quite good for the price of the device. In a neat light gray box, carefully and tightly packed, the following accessories and instructions are found:

Charger with adapter for European sockets;

USB cable;

Instruction in Chinese;

Cheap black headphones;

Protective film on the screen.

On the box itself, you will not find any additional information about the characteristics of the phone, except for the model name.

In the hands of Lenovo S939 it seems just huge. Large mobile phones are usually called "shovels", but it is with a six-inch model that you begin to fully realize the meaning of this word. Compared with the 5.3-inch or 5.3-inch that we recently reviewed, the difference of half an inch diagonal in practice is very noticeable for the user. It is simply not very comfortable to hold the model with one hand, not to mention any active use, even despite the small thickness of the case. This mobile phone is clearly designed for two hands.

By design, Lenovo S939 is the usual "black brick" for this manufacturer, neat, comfortable, but not memorable. The frames around the sensor are wide enough, but with the overall size of the device, you no longer pay attention to this. Above and below the screen, exactly as much space is allocated as necessary to accommodate all interface elements.

Above the display is a speaker grille, to the right of it is the front camera and further sensors and an event indicator. Below the touchscreen are three standard touch buttons "Menu", "Home" and "Back", brightly highlighted, but, unfortunately, not backlit.

On the right end there is a volume control key and under it is a smartphone power button.

Above is a lonely headphone jack.

The left side of the smartphone is empty.

And below is the micro-USB connector.

The back cover is made of soft-touch plastic with fine notches, thanks to which fingers do not slip on it while using the device. The window of the main camera protrudes somewhat above its surface. Immediately on the sides of the camera are a flash LED and a microphone hole. The external speaker is located at the bottom of the cover. So that it does not fit tightly to the surface, there is a small protrusion in the middle of its lattice.

Under the back cover, you can see the characteristics of the battery in Chinese, and also make sure that this mobile phone supports two full-size SIM cards (only one can work in 3G mode), and also has a slot for a micro-SD flash drive.

In the last review, we pointed out flaws in the assembly, consisting in a loose fit of the back cover. Lenovo S939 is deprived of these problems, the smartphone is built to fame. The model does not bend and does not creak when pressed or twisted, and the battery cover melts into place like a glove.

Screen

The LenovoS939 display has a diagonal of 6", HD resolution 1280x720 pixels and is made using IPS technology. We liked the quality of the resulting image. Viewing angles cannot be called a record, but they are very good. Color reproduction is pleasing to the eye. will be quite enough to work with a mobile phone on a sunny day.
It is unclear whether there is an air gap between the touchscreen and the matrix, but the image is really bright, contrasty and makes a very good impression.
The display supports multitouch for 10 simultaneous touches.

Iron

In Lenovo S939, the manufacturer did not stint on a fast platform, installing in this model an eight-core MediaTek MTK6592 processor with a frequency of 1.7 GHz. It is all the more strange why, given such good CPU performance, Lenovo decided to equip this smartphone with only one gigabyte of RAM. After all, where the processor will cope without problems, such a small amount of it can become a bottleneck (first of all, we are talking about games, but this can also be important for some other tasks).

In the synthetic Antutu benchmark test, the Lenovo S939 scored an excellent 28800 points, and during normal use of the phone there were no performance problems. But the obvious imbalance between processor power and the amount of RAM is striking.

The Lenovo S939 has 8 GB of memory, of which a little less than 5 GB is available to the user.

Other Options

The sound of the Lenovo S939 is hardly outstanding. The volume of the external speaker is average, as is the clarity of the sound. The same applies to the 3.5" audio output when using the bundled headphones. Perhaps expensive headphones could change the situation somewhat here.

But we were pleased with the quality of the wireless modules. Both Wi-fi and GPS worked without any problems and deserve the best reviews.

Camera

The front camera with a resolution of 1.6 megapixels is installed in the Lenovo S939, obviously for show, however, it is quite possible to chat via Skype with its help. But the 8-megapixel main camera module was a pleasant surprise. Despite not the highest resolution of the matrix, the Lenovo S939 camera demonstrated a very decent quality of both photos and videos. The camera application interface has all the necessary settings to improve the final images, such as light sensitivity, white balance, various "decorations" and special effects. As for its price, the picture from the Lenovo S939 is quite decent, but for serious photography it is still better to buy a separate camera.

When shooting indoors, you can try to play with ISO settings to reduce noise and movement, or use a flash.

The maximum video resolution is Full HD1980x1088, there is autofocus, but you cannot select the focus point during shooting.

Firmware

The Lenovo S939 has the Android 4.2.2 firmware that we have repeatedly reviewed with the Lenovo launcher interface. This launcher slightly changes the standard look of Android, for example, there is no main menu of programs, which usually appears when you press the central button. But otherwise, everything is logical and familiar, users of other firmware are unlikely to feel inconvenience when switching to devices from Lenovo.

During all tests, the firmware worked without problems, with one unpleasant exception. Very often, when opening several windows in the browser, it simply closed with an error message. In the reviews of this model on the forums, we have repeatedly met a mention of this problem. Most likely, it is being treated with a firmware update, but we still have a small unpleasant aftertaste from such a flaw.

Battery

The Lenovo S939 battery is removable, has a capacity of 3000 mAh, which, with such a powerful processor and screen size, seems not at all superfluous. Usually, Lenovo firmware is well optimized for energy saving, and Lenovo S939 was also able to please here: with active use of the Internet, running videos, tests, and enabled GPS and Wi-fi modules, the smartphone was discharged by hardly 15 percent in a couple of hours.

Measurements in the Antutu tester battery benchmark gave a result of 5707 points. With such indicators, there is every chance to hope that even with active use, the smartphone will live quietly all day until the evening, when it will need to be recharged.

conclusions

Affordable 6-inch smartphones are becoming more and more popular in the world, and Lenovo definitely has something to offer its fans in this segment. The Lenovo S939 phablet we are reviewing today, although it does not have enough stars from the sky, is a model that deserves attention with good hardware characteristics and a reasonable price. For complete happiness, she lacks only 2 GB of RAM (which you can’t fix in any way) and more stable browser operation (which is quite curable).

If you're looking to buy yourself a big mobile phone without spending too much money, the Lenovo S939 is well worth considering.

Would like 2 GB RAM

Lenovo has already gained a reputation in the electronics market and has been churning out new items at some incredible speed lately. And, surprisingly, many of them turned out to be very interesting solutions in their classes.

I will not write about the history of the company, but I will note an interesting fact that is often difficult to find on the net. go on sale only to "emerging markets" (which includes Russia). So on the American official website there is no mention of smartphones and tablets of the company at all. We have already seen a similar situation with Philips smartphones.

However, our today's hero is also missing on the company's Russian website - this is a completely new model - S939, based on the Mediatek MT5692 eight-core platform already known to us.

We have already tested smartphones on this SoC, and most of them left us with mixed impressions due to very modest battery life. Let's see if the new one can Lenovo S939 stand out for the better?

Before us is a typical modern tablet phone with a mid-level six-inch screen. There are quite a few of these on the market today. However, the characteristics of Lenovo S939 look generally balanced. The only thing you can complain about is just a gigabyte of RAM, which in our time may not always be enough for heavy applications and games. But the battery capacity - not as modest as that of many competitors on the MT6592 - over time, everything may turn out to be not so sad.

Lenovo S939 review, as always, let's start with a review of the packaging and delivery of the smartphone.

Packing and scope of delivery

The device comes in a medium-sized cardboard box with a branded texture.

The interior is painted red.

On top, as always, lies the smartphone itself under a protective film. Here is a napkin made of coarse material.

Everything is packed well: a special pocket in the “crib” for a smartphone is allocated for documentation, and the lower compartment is divided by a partition so that accessories do not hang out.

Lenovo S939 ships with:

  • Documentation;
  • Protective film;
  • Stereo headset with nozzles of different sizes;
  • Micro-USB cable;
  • Collapsible charger;
  • Napkin.

A good set for a smartphone of the middle price segment.

Let's take a closer look at the accessories.

The stereo headset looks good, it is convenient to use, but the sound quality here is traditionally very average. However, for conversations in noisy places, as well as listening to something not related to audiophilia, it will do.

The remote has two buttons and a microphone.

The charger has a collapsible design, which is often found in smartphones from "direct deliveries".

Its build quality can be described as average at best, but I had no complaints about the operation of the memory - maybe it was even intended that way.

Appearance and design

Before us is a classic tablet phone - a monoblock design with a six-inch touch screen.

The touch buttons are part of the case, so they don't "eat off" the usable space on the screen. On the other hand, using the device in landscape orientation is not so convenient.

An unpleasant surprise lies in the lack of backlighting of the keys, which you would not expect to see in a smartphone for 10 thousand rubles (just like in the recent LG L90).

The back cover is plastic, matte. The seams in the corners on the edging are not visible and are not felt tactile. The quality of materials is not bad, the accuracy of fitting parts is at the level.

The shape of the smartphone can be called ergonomic, but it is too large. With a width of 83.5 mm, even just holding it is not comfortable in any hand (especially for women - see an example in the photo below). The bezels on the sides that seem very narrow against the background of the local six-inch screen are actually more than 4 mm wide.

The remaining dimensions, as well as the mass, do not cause problems and are more than acceptable for this class of devices.

Designed in the spirit of Lenovo's latest Vibe series, with a chrome surround around the perimeter that widens out at the bottom rear. The new corporate identity is not bad, and even in black colors it looks good at all.

The layout of the controls is familiar to many Android devices. The volume and lock buttons are placed on the right side.

The AUX connector is located on the top end, and the micro-USB port is on the bottom.

The plastic of the back cover is coated with texture, which improves grip and protects against scratches.

The ringing speaker grille is recessed into the case. It will have to be cleaned of dust and dirt quite often. It is good that the gaps between the panels are minimal.

The front camera is neatly built into the body without any traces of glue. To the right of it are light sensors, proximity and LED indicator. Sensor performance is adequate, although the brightness change could have been smoother. For the entire time of testing, the proximity sensor “did not miss” a single phantom click.

The indicator works in a two-color mode, has an average brightness and, when an event is missed, blinks about once every three seconds - rather rarely.

The touch keys are made in a corporate design and painted "chrome-like". Backlight, I repeat, is not provided here. However, such buttons will not be visible except in complete darkness.

The volume rocker has a short stroke and a distinct but soft click. Key play is present, but within reasonable limits.

The main camera is assembled well, no substrates come out from under the glass. A little embarrassing is the very small diameter of the lenses, which is more characteristic of front cameras. Apparently, the luminosity of the optics is low here.

The design is slightly extended from the case and is not additionally protected in any way, so that the glass may be scratched during prolonged use.

The call speaker is equipped with poorly developed anti-muting protection, however, due to the curved case, it is not needed here.

The case opens behind a depression at one of the corners. The cover is removed tightly, which inspires confidence in the reliability of the design.

The latches are quite primitive, but they do their job perfectly.

The cover itself is devoid of stiffeners.

The smartphone has one of the most common layouts for SIM cards and memory cards.

Only the right SIM card slot can work with 3G networks, the other is content with 2G. Under the accumulator is a copious amount of information.

Both slots are for standard format cards. The design is fastened with ordinary screws, so it will not be difficult to disassemble it.

The MicroSD memory card is pressed against a metal frame, which has a positive effect on the reliability of fixation.

But I can’t call my tongue neat such a soldering.

A similar situation is observed with SIM card slots.

In general, the build quality and materials, I repeat, are not bad. The lid does not bend, and the smartphone passes the twisting test better than most of the “classmates”.

Display

An IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 6.0 "and a resolution of 1280 x 720 is installed, which gives a density of 245 dpi. The manufacturer does not say what kind of protective glass is used in the device, there is also no information about OGS technology (one glass solution - a solution with one glass). mentions.

In fact, the coating resists prints well and is easily rubbed off, and judging by the reflection, OGS is involved in the production of the display.

Viewing angles are typical for IPS matrices. Color distortion is small.

With diagonal viewing angles, things are worse - you can see that the black color is starting to invert.

Illumination uniformity is not bad, although you can see the faint glow of two lamps on the right side of the frame.

On white, you can see a well-defined “tint” and uneven backlighting.

The display demonstrates a well-marked glow-effect, which is especially clearly visible on a black field.

The sensor is able to recognize up to ten clicks at the same time. There are no complaints about the accuracy of his work.

color reproduction Lenovo S939 Display we tested with the X-Rite ColorMunki Display as usual.

Traditionally, let's start with the contrast table:

The maximum brightness level of 530 nits is a good result in this segment. And the contrast level is more than 1000:1 - and no matter the price of the smartphone. This is enough to clearly distinguish the image on the display even on a sunny day. At the minimum brightness value, the contrast remains at a fairly high level.

Gamma curves lie close to the reference line, keep its shape and are close to each other - another good result.

But the color temperature traditionally for the latest smartphone screens turned out to be noticeably higher than the "standard" 6500K - the image on the display noticeably "cools".

The color gamut is comparable to the sRGB standard, differing noticeably only in the green channel setting.

However, the points of the gray wedge did not even fit within the boundaries of DeltaE

The color channels are not perfectly tuned, but at least they are stable.

In general, the matrix setting is not bad. There are no serious "weak points" in it. A little frustrating is only a noticeable glow-effect, but for me personally - still a cold image.

Software and Firmware

Lenovo S939 runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system with a proprietary interface, the basis of which we already know from the Vibe series devices.

The smartphone is equipped with a "smart" update system, which works not only on demand, but also integrates messages about available updates into the shell. For example, if there is an update for the camera interface, the "New" button next to the shutter button will light up. The screenshot shows that the smartphone has found a new update that no one has downloaded (0 people). The program warns about the need to save personal data and starts downloading.

But after the reboot, the smartphone swears in Chinese and refuses to update. When you enter the system, the available updates that cannot be installed "without a tambourine" begin to be an eyesore again.

And for dessert, the most interesting: in the current firmware Lenovo S939 devoid of information about battery usage. Even in the menu there is no such item. Considering the appetites of an eight-core processor, this looks strange.

In terms of performance, everything is smooth here, there are no brakes, stability is good, with the exception of some details that we will discuss in the next section.

Hardware platform and performance

Lenovo S939 is based on the MTK6592 single-chip system. The processor was not overclocked, as in the case of Alcatel Idol X +, the maximum frequency of its cores is 1.67 GHz.

CPU-Z correctly determines the processor model and frequency of operation.

The company's decision to put only 1 GB of RAM into such a device looks strange. In a “fresh” smartphone without running programs, less than half of the RAM is available, which may well result in this situation:

Attempting to open a browser with multiple tabs after playing for a short time may result in a crash. In general, when working with a device, you often notice that you have only about 100 MB of RAM left in stock, since the developers have provided for memory monitoring when switching applications and its quick cleaning.

However, this does not prevent running optimized benchmarks:

In general, the results are comparable to those that we saw in the reviews of other smartphones based on the MTK6592. Lenovo S939 does not present any surprises in terms of performance, but it does not have any problems with it either.

And thanks to the still not the highest screen resolution, Lenovo S939 can easily cope with the vast majority of even the heaviest games.

At the same time, surprisingly, the AnTuTu stability test shows an almost perfect result.

The Stability Test utility in classic mode showed excellent work. Of course, only half of the cores were loaded, but in the Alcatel Idol X + review, this did not prevent the eight-core monster from dropping the frequency right up to 845 MHz and heating the case to 49 degrees. In our case, the heating is moderate and does not interfere with using the phone.

In the best traditions, immediately after the “warm-up”, we will restart the AnTuTu test.

The smartphone "lost" only about 2000 points, which is a very good result. As a result, all attempts to identify the instability of the system were unsuccessful.

Practical tests show the same result - stability does not drop even after an hour of play, and heating remains within a comfortable level. No "glitches" were noticed.

Oh, here would be another second gigabyte of RAM ...

The standard player does not support all formats. But the performance of the smartphone is enough to cope with any adequate video file.

The smartphone copes well with watching videos on YouTube, full-screen mode works fine.

Sound

Lenovo S939 is not positioned by the manufacturer as a device for audiophiles, so you should not count on the highest sound quality.

It was not possible to test the analog audio path in the Right Mark Audio Analyzer: a smartphone with an obvious defective AUX connector got into the laboratory. When headphones are connected, instead of music, a hiss is emitted, vaguely reminiscent of the motives of the composition. If you find a “good position”, then you can hear what you are looking for, but the sound “floats”, failing the middle, then the upper frequencies, and sometimes it turns off altogether. There is a clear connection problem. Bearing in mind the quality of soldering of the SIM slots, I was not too surprised.

The volume of the call speaker is enough for you to hear it from the next room. But the quality is not very good, even watching videos through it does not give much pleasure, not to mention listening to music.

The speaker, on the contrary, does not indulge in loudness, but everything is in order with clarity. The microphone works fine, none of the interlocutors complained about the poor quality of the transmitted speech. Vibrating alert strength is average, it is clearly felt in a jeans pocket, but if you put your smartphone in a jacket or, especially, in a bag, you can miss the call.

Wireless interfaces and communication

Lenovo S939 works in Wi-Fi networks using a/b/g/n protocols.

The reception stability is good, the data transfer rate via the LAN network “over the air” is above average.

The device has no problems with GPS, a cold start takes less than a minute, satellite visibility is good.

The smartphone does not support NFC or work in 4G networks.

The device is equipped with one GSM module, SIM card settings are standard. The main settings menu has the ability to change the ringtone for each. The reception quality is good - in a week of testing I have never encountered problems where other devices worked normally.

File system

The smartphone has a built-in storage of 8 GB.

In fact, only half is initially free - 4 GB. Fortunately, nothing prevents you from expanding the available space with a memory card (64 GB are supported).

Lenovo S939 supports connection to PC via MTP, PTP and USB mode.

The data transfer rate to the internal memory is very good and depends on the bandwidth of the USB port.

The speed of data transfer to the memory card - respectively, in its capabilities.

However, at the same time, surprisingly, the speed of internal storage available to applications is low. This is especially true of the recording speed, which is perfectly noticeable when installing programs.

Battery life

The Lenovo S939 has a 3000 mAh removable battery.

Its corpus is replete with information, however, not everyone will be able to read it.

The battery is quite thin and not heavy - I can’t even believe in such a capacity.

The included charger has an output current of 1.5 A. A full charge cycle from this device takes 2.5 hours.

In AnTuTu Tester, the device scores a good 506 points, which would be a good result even for the MTK6589T quad-core SoCs.

And in real tasks, the results were as follows:

Ladies and gentlemen, we have one of the first smartphones with an eight-core processor, which is able to confidently "live" through the day with active use. Well, not in any scenario, of course - it's better not to abuse web surfing and, especially, 3D games. But in terms of battery life, the Lenovo S939 is head and shoulders above the Alcatel Idol X+ and Zopo ZP998.

Camera

Interface, features and settings

The camera interface in the device is developed by Lenovo.

In general, the main camera does a surprisingly good job in good and medium lighting conditions. For a mid-range smartphone, this is a good result.

Comparison with competitors

In the segment of smartphones with a screen diagonal of about six inches, the choice is already quite large. Let's single out some representatives:

The closest gadget from leading manufacturers in terms of characteristics is the Sony Xperia T2 dual, a review of which will soon appear in our laboratory. He wins not only due to the sonorous name, but also looks more expensive. True, and it costs significantly more.

In terms of performance, it is inferior to the hero of our review, but in terms of battery life, on the contrary, it noticeably wins - thanks to a processor with modest “appetites”.

Continuing the list of famous brands, we can recall the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 (GT-I9200). This smartphone costs 2000-2500 rubles more than the Lenovo S939, but it boasts pain

In general, the device is worth the money. Definitely worth buying if you are not a fan of heavy 3D games. For navigation, viber, whatsapp, surfing the Internet, the device is ideal.

Lenovo has long gained popularity in the android phone market and began to release new gadgets at a great speed. Moreover, which cannot but rejoice, most of them completely passed our test and turned out to be good devices.

It is worth noting that the company sells its smartphones only in markets that are not yet fully established (Russia falls into this number). That is, in the same USA, it will not be possible to officially buy the company's products, which I think does not upset its residents too much, that is, the company's products are focused specifically on our market - our needs and the price, mainly for gadgets from Lenovo, are set quite “tasty”.

Description

Lenovo S939 is also missing from the Russian market. This is a brand new model based on the MTK MT5692 platform. At first glance, this is the most ordinary modern phablet, of which there are plenty on the market. The specifications on paper look good, except that one gigabyte of RAM may not be enough to run quite resource-intensive games or applications. But the battery is installed here “not for children”, but for as much as 3000 mAh, which of course is not a record figure, but should provide a solid period.

Design

By purchasing this device, you get classic monoblock tablet phone with a six-inch screen. At the bottom of the front panel there is a separate block of touch keys, that is, the control buttons will not be located directly on the screen and take up the workspace. But this approach has two drawbacks. The first disadvantage is that with this solution it is not very convenient to use the device in a horizontal orientation (although no one bothers to programmatically disable the "hard" buttons and turn on the touch unit, which will be located directly on the screen). And the second minus is that the buttons on this device do not have a backlight, which you do not expect at all in a gadget worth 10 thousand rubles, and this cannot be fixed programmatically.

The back cover is made of pleasant to the touch plastic and has a matte structure. The quality of the materials is high, the details fit almost perfectly. During operation, no squeaks, no backlashes, or any other design flaws were identified.

Despite its huge size, the device is quite ergonomic and comfortable in the hand (relative to competitors with the same screen, of course). So the weight and dimensions practically do not cause discomfort and inconvenience (unless this device will “fit” into any pocket).

The design echoes the look of the company's recent Vibe series smartphones, with the same chrome trim that flares out at the rear. Personally, we really like this corporate identity, especially in black.

There are also no surprises with the controls here - the volume rocker and the lock button are located on the right, the audio jack is at the top, and the microUSB port is habitually located at the bottom.

The back cover has a certain texture, which saves from scratches and prevents the phone from slipping in your hand. In the front panel, at the very top, there is a slot with a grille for the earpiece. As with other devices, this area is particularly prone to dust attacks, so you will need to clean it often.

The installation of the front camera is done quite neatly, without traces. On the right side of it are sensors responsible for lighting and proximity, as well as an LED indicator. Their quality is at a good level - it is regulated without jumps and false positives, and the proximity sensor works well for every call, without exception. The event indicator has two colors for notification of events and, when an event is missed, blinks once every three seconds.

Touch-sensitive navigation keys, which have already been discussed above, have a corporate icon design style and, as I said, are not backlit, which can adversely affect the impressions of using the phone in the dark.

The buttons (volume, screen lock) have a nice clear stroke. There is practically no key play, so the phone does not make rattle sounds. The main camera, in appearance, is assembled quite qualitatively - neither glue nor dust, nor any other unpleasant “finds” are visible under the lenses.

The hands-free speaker is located on the back of the device and has a primitive mute protection, but due to the curvature of the case, it is practically not needed here. When you remove the back cover, we see the battery and slots for SIM cards and microSD. The slots for SIM cards have their own peculiarity - only one works with 3G networks, while in the second this option is not implemented at all.

Display

As already mentioned, the smartphone is equipped with a diagonal of six inches and HD resolution (720x1280 pixels). The pixel density is 245 dpi, which is certainly less than the 300 ppi threshold at which our eye is no longer able to see the pixel ladder, but this value is quite enough for work. If you do not focus on this and do not specifically peer, then you will not be able to see the pixel ladder.

The screen, as befits a modern gadget, has an oleophobic coating made using One Glass Solution technology - that is, without an air gap. Viewing angles of the display are typical-maximum for IPS. There are color distortions when tilted, but their values are very small. But with diagonal viewing angles, everything is not so rosy - the colors are inverted.

The backlight is uniform across the entire surface of the display. The sensor can recognize up to ten simultaneous clicks. It positions touches quite accurately, has virtually no false positives, and is generally quite pleasant to the touch.

The maximum screen brightness of the device is 530 nits, which is a very good result, especially for a device in this price category. The level of contrast at the level of more expensive gadgets is 1000:1. Such indicators will be enough for you to read in direct sunlight on a hot day. Contrast remains high even at low backlight settings.

Already according to an unspoken tradition, the color temperature of new devices, for some reason, goes beyond the “ideal” 6500K, which is why the image “gives off cold”. The color gamut is very close to the sRGB standard, only differing slightly from it in the green setting.

In general, we liked the screen - it is well calibrated, and the matrix itself is quite high quality.

Performance and hardware

The smartphone is made on the MTK6592 system. This processor operates at standard frequencies of 1.67 GHz- that is, it is a standard, not overclocked processor. The company decided to save on installing 2 gigabytes of memory, limiting itself to only one. Such a solution will not allow you to run many “heavy” applications at the same time or open a large number of tabs in, but in general, with standard use cases, such volumes should be enough for you.

As for performance, there are no surprises here - the results are quite comparable with those based on the same processor. This is a fairly productive system, which will be enough for you for normal use, and for running games and resource-intensive applications.

To play the most modern 3B games calmly, you will most likely need to “screw up” the graphics settings. The phone, even under the heaviest load, behaves quite stably, does not heat up, does not freeze or freeze.

Battery and battery life

As mentioned at the beginning, a 3000 mAh battery is installed here. Despite this capacity, the battery does not have impressive dimensions or heavy weight. A full charge with a standard 1.5 Amp charger will take you about two and a half hours. Charging from a USB port can take you all night.

In Antutu, the battery was able to show a result of 506 points, which is a good indicator. And the standard test for video playback in HD resolution was completed only after eight hours.

And so it turns out that before us , capable of showing pretty good results in offline work. Of course, you won’t be able to play 3V games all day long, but with moderate use of the gadget, you will have enough for a couple of days for sure.

Camera

The camera interface has a corporate style from Lenovo, which really does not prevent you from installing the shooting application that you are used to yourself, especially since not so long ago an official camera from “pure” Android appeared in it.

The main camera has a resolution of 8 megapixels and produces quite high-quality pictures. especially in good lighting. Also, the optics hold backlight well, and the quality of detail is at a high level. The module copes well with macro photography, but when shooting at night it “catches bunnies” from light sources, often purple ones.

In poor lighting, the detail drops, the “soapiness” grows and the quality of the pictures deteriorates, which, in principle, is quite expected. In general, the camera does its job quite well and shows excellent results for a mid-range smartphone.

As for the front module, it copes with the tasks assigned to its shoulders perfectly - it transmits a high-quality picture during video calls, and also takes quite acceptable selfies, and nothing more is required of it.

conclusions

The next device from Lenovo once again leaves only positive impressions about itself after meeting. The company magically manages to select just the perfect price / quality ratio and play on it, as in its own field.

Lenovo S939 is a fairly balanced device that will not leave anyone indifferent. The gadget has a laconic and at the same time memorable design, a good quality screen, a powerful platform for this segment and can provide long battery life with moderate use. The build quality and materials are top notch. Also, it should be noted a good camera and a low price.

The most surprising thing is that it’s impossible to find fault with the device for a serious reason, except that the manufacturer decided to equip the gadget with only a gigabyte of RAM instead of two, but in this segment this is normal practice and it would be wrong to write this down as a minus - the presence of additional RAM it would be a nice option rather than an urgent need.

Yes, the device will definitely not become a bestseller, but nevertheless it is one of the most prominent options in its price segment.

Device advantages:

  • Good materials and excellent build quality;
  • Good display matrix;
  • The presence of two slots for SIM cards and microSD support;
  • Good performance from a single battery charge;
  • High performance (as for its class) and very stable operation even at maximum load;
  • Pretty low price.

Cons of the device:

  • The navigation keys are not backlit;
  • The presence of only one gigabyte of RAM (as mentioned above, this is not entirely a minus, the device works fine even with this amount, but it could work better).

Problem solved

Pluses: I do not see anything more worthy for such money (6300 rubles in early September). Lightweight for its size. Disadvantages: As already mentioned here - a phone for geeks. Or for those who have friends who are not afraid to flash phones (this is not about a banal update of the official firmware "over the air"). Because the phone is only for the domestic market of China, then there are small problems with the Russian language - it is not there. Good Chinese friends from Ali send firmware with Russian, but it usually leaves much to be desired: in addition to the incomplete translation, for example, the camera did not switch from internal to external. Well, and, accordingly, some difficulties with the purchase. Either order in China as usual at your own peril and risk (someone scares me with restored phones, for example, the seller put some kind of terrible crap instead of regular ears with a flat wire, albeit with the inscription Lenovo), or overpay here for the opportunity to feel gray phone before buying. The loosely seated adapter from the Chinese mains plug on charging is a little annoying (it can remain in the socket when pulled out by the main plug), but this is a trifle from the category of headphones that can be replaced. The lack of a 900MHz band for 3G. Many tried to change modems, even posted screenshots where the frequency appeared in the list of supported ones, but no one achieved real work. So forget about 900 MHz and OTG - this was not announced by the manufacturer, and this is not in the phone. Be careful, in some places operators may not have a 2100MHz band. Although I personally do not care, I generally turn off 3G. It seems like once it was that the touch keys were stuck - they did not respond to pressing. I had to calibrate the position sensor. Not to say that it is a trivial thing, you need to do this in the service menu in Chinese and be careful not to calibrate too much. Comment: What to do, what to do with the firmware? On w3bsit3-dns.com there is a corresponding thread dedicated to this device. There are firmware, and related infa / software, and you will find about the calibration by searching. Personally, I recommend firmware S129 from Mannur. Before flashing the firmware, you need to flash a custom recovery (CWM or TWRP). I recommend doing this through the SP Flash Tool on a PC (after installing the USB drivers for the phone). And only then install the firmware you like through the recovery. The battery is large enough, a device with normal firmware is quite economical. Overnight leaks 1%, or even less. Those. in standby mode behaves well. But if you play heavy games - three hours. For consumption, it’s better to read reviews, I didn’t specifically test anything. The screen, in principle, is bright enough not to go blind in the sun at all. Although the corners, of course, cannot be compared with the amoled laptop 3, but the money is also different. Size 6 "is too big for wearing / holding, 5.5 would be a little more comfortable. In addition to holding it in my hands, there is another moment - in my jeans pocket, and I don’t have it small, when I squat or bend over, it already rests on the thigh. I already I am silent if headphones with a straight wire are plugged in. By the way, the wretchedness sent to me instead of regular ones was replaced with a Sony MH750 with an L-shaped plug - a very worthy option. The phone supports 64 GB cards, at least some of them (for example, Silicon Power ELITE microSDXC UHS Class 1). legal 10. But to support NTFS, you need to install Paragon NTFS & HFS +.The dilemma crept up unnoticed - either crutches in the form of a paragon (it does not always pick up the card automatically), or a completely dull speed and file size limit.Now, enough quickly ceasing to torment the device for different firmware, I'm certainly satisfied with it.

    price (I managed to take it before the rate jump for 7.5 tr) from a local online store -Performance in tests of 30,000 parrots, and in real life everything is fine -the battery lasts an average of 2 days. (3g and internet (wiber, skype) are always on) -even with a strong moral obsolescence of the device, he calmly goes to live as a mobile navigator with awesome options)

    Fast - a large and bright 6" screen (everything is perfectly visible on the street in the sun) - the ability to install large memory cards - fast GPS and 3G - Special buns from Lenovo, such as a keyboard that shrinks to the left or right (depending on with which hand you hold the phone), answering a call by simply putting the phone to your ear, etc. -Excellent battery and overall charge consumption -Availability of a flash (anyone likes it, but for me this factor is important) -Availability of slots for 2- x SIM cards

    Lenovo is pleased with the attention paid to the development of sound quality in this model. I’ll say this about the sound quality itself, in the car I only listened to CDs with the original sound, I couldn’t even think about any mp3s, but here’s a joke, the same mp3s from Lenova through AUX are perceived quite worthy, now new items that I haven’t yet purchased in lossless are listened to in mp3. When the navigator is on, the sound of music through the AUX does not drown out the speaker's voice. There is one moment when the jack is turned on, the volume level becomes 50% and you need to manually raise it to 100%, such is the moment. Size is an advantage, for example, when the navigator is on, also when viewing pages. Smart GPS. I won’t write about a powerful processor, it’s not a secret for anyone already. The display image quality is good. Battery life pleased, in terms of duration and hell

    On the touchscreen, a strip about 1 cm wide just below the middle of the screen failed. Prior to that, I used 10 months. I read that some also observe the same problems.

    Sometimes it reboots itself (for 4 months of use it was 2 times)
    -Consequence of the absence of. sales in Russia Russification flaws (only in the setup menu and very few)
    -Sometimes not enough RAM
    -A little play on the cover at the top of the phone (kind of like a floating defect)

    It seems that so far it is not officially delivered to the Russian Federation (there is no proprietary guarantee, support, normal Russification, etc.);
    - Standard firmware Russian-English-Chinese. But you can live;
    - I do not advise doing updates through the official built-in upgrade. New English-Chinese version. It will become impossible to use at all!

    Using with a pasted protective film is not perfect, as for example on Samsung note4, they react to the touch of the keys, again, I did not try it without a film, since a large screen diagonal has more chances of being damaged.
