For 7 years, Highscreen has been storming the smartphone market, releasing, if not the most powerful, but the most tenacious smartphones. Over the past few years, enough models have appeared so that each of us can find something suitable for ourselves. Now we have Highscreen Power Ice, which has many advantages. In addition to the fact that this model has a stylish design, Power Ice can even be used to recharge other smartphones.

SpecificationsHighscreen Power Ice:

  • 5.0 inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels
  • 16 GB built-in memory
  • 2 GB RAM
  • Quad-core processor MediaTek MT6735 with a frequency of 1.3GHz and Mali T-720
  • Main camera 8.0 megapixels, front 5.0 megapixels
  • Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0+EDR+A2DP
  • FM radio
  • Networks GSM 900/1800/1900, WCDMA 900/1900/2100, 4G/LTE: B1/B3/B7/B20
  • Navigation: Built-in GPS/GLONASS receiver
  • Expansion slot: microSD (compatible with SDHC)
  • Built-in battery capacity 4000 mAh (Li-pol)
  • Dimensions: 143 x 69.9 x 8.5mm

We got acquainted with the characteristics, but in fact we want to know as soon as possible why the manufacturer introduced the Highscreen Power Ice as a smartphone capable of charging other mobile devices. In general, the question arises, have you seen someone do this? About a month ago, we already touched on this topic when we talked about USB OTG. Included with our hero is an OTG adapter, so we just have to find a gadget that needs recharging.

Design and materials

Despite the low cost, the Power Ice smartphone has a high-quality case made from expensive materials. You will not see any disgusting plastic. The device looks more expensive than indicated on its price tag.

The rear non-removable metal panel, the front is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 or similar in properties. The phone has no backlash between the parts, no creaking. The buttons have a clear stroke without dips.

Specifications

Now directly to the characteristics of the smartphone with details.

This smartphone is far from the flagship characteristics, but its power is enough for all popular applications and 3D games. Highscreen Power Ice received a MediaTek MT6735 quad-core processor with a Mali T720 graphics accelerator, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory, there is support for microSD cards.

An important point is that this is a dual-SIM smartphone with 4G support, and therefore it will work fine with us, we don’t have to think about its compatibility with LTE frequencies. Power Ice also supports a standard set of connections: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0+EDR+A2DP, GPS, GLONASS.

If you take a look at the phone's design and the table with its characteristics, you'd be tempted to find out what Highscreen saved on. Surprisingly, there are no big cons and a smartphone. Its characteristics really correspond to a model that belongs to the budget class. On the other hand, Highscreen Power Ice can easily fit into the middle class.

The operating system is stock Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Camera

If you try to make claims to the supposedly poor resolution of the main camera, then 8 megapixels is enough for simple photos. Moreover, optics with 6 lenses and a smart filter are installed here. The device can take photos with good quality even in low light.

Is 5 megapixels for the front camera not enough for you? Previously, we were content with 2-megapixel cameras for selfies and video calls. So the front camera in Highscreen Power Ice will do its job much better than you might expect.

Screen

Highscreen Power Ice received a 5-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which is not that much. But the IPS matrix produces an image with good clarity. If we talk about ppi, then here the pixel density is almost like that of Retina. It is unlikely that you will notice individual pixels if you do not look at the phone screen point-blank.

Highscreen Power Ice battery and battery life

Highscreen Power Ice has a non-removable 4000 mAh Li-Pol battery. Theoretically, such a battery, when fully charged, will be enough to revive another smartphone with a smaller battery. However, the charging process will take too long. So this feature is needed only as a last resort.

As for the Highscreen Power Ice's own run time, you'll have to try really hard to drain the battery in a whole day, even when constantly watching online videos at maximum screen brightness. Usually we do not overload our smartphone in this way, so with a standard load, Power Ice will work without problems for up to three days, and in standby mode for up to two weeks.

Yes, since this phone received a very capacious battery, it is logical that the dimensions of the device are not the smallest. Still, the Highscreen Power Ice is about the right size for a 5-inch phablet, and is only 8.5mm thick.

Conclusion

If you were looking for a smartphone with the perfect balance of price / quality, price / performance and performance / survivability, then somehow combines all these best qualities. The official price from the manufacturer is only $139. For this money, we get not some Chinese state employee, but a quite solid phone with a metal case. An additional nice option is the ability to recharge another smaller smartphone.

Like Android. At the same time, no complaints.

Gadgets are assembled at factories in China by order of the company.

The Highscreen range completely covers the budget segment, and every year 8 new products are released. Highscreen Power Ice is the most recent smartphone introduced. Its cost is 10,000 rubles.

Set

The box contains a charger, a micro usb cable, headphones and a plastic case - the latter, apparently, as a tribute to the ineradicable Russian tradition of wrapping remote controls and gadgets in all sorts of accessories.

It will definitely not be superfluous, because the cover of the smartphone is also plastic and prone to scratches. If you pick it up with your fingernail and pull it up, the insides of the gadget will open to us: two slots for micro SIM, one slot for micro SD (useful for expanding the built-in 16 GB of memory) and a 4000 mAh non-removable battery. For comparison, the iPhone 6s has a battery capacity of 1715 mAh.

Display

The five-inch HD IPS screen (720×1280 pixels) is made using ONCELL technology, which involves installing the touch layer directly into the protective outer glass, which improves color reproduction, quality and responsiveness of the touch display.

Starting with the iPhone 6, Apple also switched to ONCELL.

Power Ice color is shifted to the magenta region, while the iPhone 6 is yellow.

I already rushed to look for the MiraVision setting, which allows you to change the color temperature of the display, like in, but, alas, I did not find it. Although according to the developer MediaTek, the MT6735 chip supports MiraVision. You don't have to look far for examples: Meizu m2 has it on the same chip. Here's the annoyance.

Below is a shot at 25% screen brightness.

The difference in viewing angles can only be noticed by placing two phones side by side. As the viewing angle increases, the contrast of the Highscreen display decreases faster than that of the "six".

For a price of 10,000 rubles. I think that the Highscreen Power Ice display can be safely installed five points. A couple of years ago, a screen of this quality on a very budget smartphone was hard to imagine.

Dimensions and weight

Highscreen Dimensions: 143 x 69.9 x 8.5mm, 185g
iPhone 6s Dimensions: 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1mm, 143g

Performance

Inside is a 64-bit 4-core processor MediaTek MT6735. Responsible for graphics Mali T-720.

In the AnTuTu test, the smartphone scored almost 32,000 points, taking an honorable 17th place.

For hardcore games with a lot of textures, glare and objects, the power of the Power Ice iron is not enough: twitches are visible.

But they fly with a bang.

In the Android boat, 2 GB of RAM, 4 cores and a budget MT6735 allow you to row with oars in a big way - without regard to speed records. Yes, they are not really needed in Power Ice. The phone was conceived as an inexpensive smartphone with good value for money.

Camera

The resolution of the rear camera is 8 MP, and the front one is 5. The main camera can shoot 1080p video.

The Power Ice images show more artifacts than the Apple smartphone. It is possible that photo processing algorithms, which have always been at their best, play an important role. Look at the fragments of the face and you will understand everything.

But macro-shooting is better with Highscreen due to taking the object into focus at small distances. The iPhone can't shoot that close.

Night came out in favor of the iPhone 6, which produced a clearer picture in low light, showing a snow-covered license plate.

The flash on the Highscreen is very powerful. Near such shooting is contraindicated. I don’t know if it adapts to lighting conditions - probably not. In principle, this is how a $120 phone should be removed.

Attention to the clouds outside the window, which Highscreen "did not notice." Maybe I should have chosen a different shooting mode, turned on HDR, used filters, but I am against excessive interference in the photo. The result is below.

Music

There are no complaints about the sound. All my music was downloaded via Apple Music on Android and it turned out that the Highscreen speakers are about 10% quieter than the iPhone ones, but in the headphones the sound levels are equal for an uncritical advantage in the basses of the brainchild of Wobis.

Introduction

The device is a pumped version of the Power Five with one caveat: in Ice, the battery is not 5000 mAh, but 4000 mAh. The rest of the devices are technically very similar.

Of the points of interest to the user, it is worth noting the presence of a fourth-generation connection, two “gigabytes” of RAM and the ability to charge other gadgets, that is, Power Ice acts as an external battery.

Design, dimensions, controls

The Power Ice model looks quite attractive and strict, in addition, you can choose one of two colors for the design of the gadget: either dark blue or golden. Both colors look interesting. The body shape is classic: a rectangle with slightly rounded corners and smooth side edges. Since the screen is dark and the frames are completely black, it seems that the display bezel is very thin. In fact, its width is approximately 3.5 - 4 mm. However, this is also a little.

Dimensions familiar to such gadgets with 5-inch screens - 143x69.9x8.5 mm, Ice weighs not exactly "ice" - 185 grams, that is, it feels heavy. However, it lies well in the palm due to the sloping edges and relatively narrow body.

The screen is protected by Asahi glass. There is an oleophobic coating, it is of high quality, the finger glides easily. Glass, of course, collects fingerprints, but they are erased without problems.

The sides are plastic. The thin edging is semi-gloss, and the thick edging is chrome-plated at the edges. The back cover is made partially of plastic: the upper and lower inserts, as well as the side faces, are made of this material. Metal in the hand is not felt.

On top of the front panel are light and proximity sensors, a camera and a speaker. The speaker has a volume slightly above average, intelligibility is excellent, the interlocutor is heard clearly, there are no echoes and other third-party sounds.

Below the display - "Menu", "Home" and "Back". There is no backlight, invisible in the dark.

The microUSB connector and microphone are on the bottom, on top there is a lone 3.5 mm audio jack.

On the right are the metal power button and volume rocker.

On the reverse side are: a camera recessed into the body, a flash and a speaker.

The cover is removed quite tightly, but the assembly is excellent. Under the top panel are two microSIM slots and a microSD slot.

Display

This device uses a 5-inch screen. The physical size is 62x110 mm, the frame on top is 16 mm, on the bottom is 16.5 mm, on the right and on the left - approximately 3.5-4 mm each. There is an anti-reflective coating, quite effective.

The resolution of the Power Ice display from Highscreen is HD, that is, 720x1280 pixels, aspect ratio - 16:9, density - 293 pixels per inch. IPS matrix without air gap.

The maximum brightness of white color is 380 cd/m2, the maximum brightness of black color is 0.4 cd/m2, the contrast ratio is 760:1.

The color reproduction is pleasant, but the white color is slightly shifted to warm shades, the picture is a little violet at the corners. In general, the screen is normal, let us down the brightness - it is extremely low, the image is not readable in the sun.

Viewing angles

Battery

This model uses a 4000 mAh non-removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery.

In my mode of working with the device, the gadget functioned for 3 days: an hour of calls, constant synchronization with Wi-Fi (every day from 9.00 to 01.00, Twitter, mail, Skype, Whatsapp), 4-6 hours of LTE. The glow of the screen in this mode is 4 hours.

If you turn off all power saving features and use the screen for about 6 hours, then the device will sit down on about the third day.

With a minimum load, you can achieve 8 hours of screen glow at 100% brightness of the matrix backlight. With games, the situation is a little worse: the battery runs out after 6-7 hours of continuous “battle”. Video device "twists" for about 10 hours (HD).

In the kit you will find a 1 A AC adapter. So it will take a long time to charge the battery - 4-5 hours.

From the original: Power Ice can charge other devices. The output current is about 1 A. In the kit, alas, there was no special adapter.

Communication options

The device works not only in 2G / 3G networks, but also in 4G CAT 4:

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE (900/1800/1900 MHz);
  • 3G/HSPA+ (900/1900/2100 MHz);
  • 4G/LTE (1/3/7/20)

There is no NFC chip, the rest is standard for any Android smartphone: GPS and GLONASS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, USB 2.0 with OTG support.

Memory and memory card

Inside is 2 GB of RAM, usually free about 1300 MB.

Built-in memory 16 GB, available about 10 GB. There is a slot for a microSD memory card, the maximum capacity is 64 GB.

cameras

Traditionally, there are two camera modules: 8 MP (six-lens optics with a Blue Glass filter, F2.2 aperture) and 5 MP (F2.8 aperture). There is one LED flash.

It uses modules similar to Power Five. So let me quote myself:

“When I first saw the resolution of the main camera in the performance characteristics, to put it mildly, I was surprised. Now almost all modern devices in the price range of 10,000 rubles and above are usually equipped with a 13 MP camera.

In practice, it turned out that the developers decided not to dissemble and put an “honest” 8 MP module, and not a camera with an alleged 13 MP matrix. I liked the quality of the Highscreen Power Five camera: excellent detail, a small amount of noise even when shooting in poor lighting conditions, accurate white balance. Since I use the iPhone 5, it seemed to me that Highscreen has the same camera module as Apple, at least it matches the nature of the noise, color reproduction and other parameters.

The front camera takes great pictures. The angle is not very wide, but the face is not distorted either.

The main camera records video in FullHD resolution at 27 fps (good lighting) and 16 fps (poor lighting conditions). The picture is not wide-angle, the clarity is good, there is little noise. Cons - the focus is very slow and inaccurate. Medium quality sound. The front camera is HD 30 fps during the day and 16 fps at night.

Unlike Power Five, Four and Rage, Ice has manual settings for exposure, ISO, focus, white balance. The mode is called "Pro".

Performance

The device is powered by the Taiwanese MediaTek MT6735 chipset. This is a 64-bit SoC that contains 4 ARM Cortex-53 cores, 28 nm manufacturing process, clock speed of each up to 1.5 GHz. The graphics used are Mali T-720 with support for Open GL ES 3.0 and Open CL 1.2 API.

When the processor is loaded, the case practically does not heat up.

If we talk about software optimization, then everything is fine with Highscreen: the interface works smoothly, without any hint of slowdowns, applications start quickly. With toys, too, everything is more or less normal, but you should not count on the maximum parameters and 60 FPS: for example, in Unkilled you have to set the settings to medium or even low, Brothers In Arms 3 also slows down.

It should be noted that the MT6735 chip was created as an inexpensive solution for use in devices that can operate in various networks. Therefore, its main feature is LTE in our country.
