How to restart a laptop using the keyboard. Instructions for restarting the computer from the keyboard Hotkeys windows 8 reboot

It practically does not differ from what was in earlier versions of operating systems. The operating system still loads only the most basic drivers and services. The only difference is that the minimum screen resolution in safe mode has increased from 800x600 pixels to 1024x768 pixels.

To run the tool system configuration press the keyboard shortcut + R in the window that opens Run type msconfig command and press the key Enter↵

In the opened window system configuration go to the tab, select the operating system you want to boot in safe mode (if you have more than one), check the box Safe mode and press the button OK

Next, a window will appear with a message that you need to restart your computer. Press or Exit without reboot- depending on whether you want the computer to be restarted right now or later.

The next time you start Windows 8, Windows 8.1 will boot into Safe Mode.

Press power button on the Windows login screen or in the panel Options (Settings Charm). Then press and hold the button ⇑ Shift on the keyboard and press

After reboot in window Choice of action select an option Diagnostics

In the window Diagnostics choose Extra options

In the window Download options you will see a list with several options, including Enable safe mode.

Click Reload

When the computer restarts, a list of 9 options will appear on the screen, including three types of safe mode.

Press a key on the keyboard F4 to enable safe mode.
F5 to enable Safe Mode with Networking.
Press a key on the keyboard F6 to enable safe mode with command line support.

After that, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 will be loaded according to your choice.

In Windows 8, but not in Windows 8.1, you can create a system repair disk and boot from it.

After booting from the recovery disk, you will be prompted to select a keyboard layout. Choose the one you want to use. Then you will see the options screen. All further steps will be identical to those described in the method above.

Windows 8, Windows 8.1 allow you to create a system recovery disc on a USB drive. You can read detailed instructions. Using such a disk, you can also boot the operating system in safe mode. To do this, boot from your System Recovery USB and follow the instructions from the previous method.

(does not work when using UEFI BIOS and SSD)

In Windows 7, it was enough to press F8 just before the start of the operating system to get to the menu with additional boot options, from where you can already boot the operating system in safe mode.

For Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, some sources advise using the keyboard shortcut ⇑ Shift + F8 , which starts recovery mode, allowing you to boot into safe mode. However, the problem is that neither ⇑ Shift + F8, not just F8 often don't work.

On their official blog, Microsoft explains that this behavior is due to the very fast boot process. Steve Sinofsky said: Windows 8 has a problem. It loads too fast, so fast that you don't actually have time to stop loading it when you turn on your computer. The operating system simply does not have time to detect pressing the F2 or F8 keys.

If you have a modern computer with UEFI BIOS and SSD, it is unlikely that you will be able to interrupt the boot process by pressing the keys. On older computers with a classic BIOS and no SSD, pressing these keys still works.

The release of Windows 8 at one time drove many users into a stupor. Indeed, there was an embarrassment - the Start menu disappeared somewhere, and with it - a lot of useful little things. For example, computer shutdown buttons. Users could not find how to turn off the computer, and all because the new Metro interface hid the cherished buttons behind Miracle panels, and these panels, as if from a fairy tale about Koshchei the Deathless, were also hidden and not displayed on the screen. The needle in the egg, the egg in the duck, the duck in the hare - this is the approach used in the system to get to the cherished options to shut down and restart Windows 8.

Unfortunately, I cannot say that things have changed radically in Windows 8.1. But Microsoft understands the non-obviousness of such an implementation, and is working to improve the interface. Implemented for beginners, and for advanced ones - a couple of additional nice buns. Let's see how you can shut down or restart your Windows 8.1 PC.

Using the Wonder Panel

Charms are buttons that appear on the right side of the screen when you move your mouse over the top or bottom right corner of the desktop. By placing the mouse pointer in one of these corners, you will see this:

These white buttons are called "Charms bar hint". If she annoys you a lot, .

We click on the gear that represents the Settings, and the Miracle Panel appears on the screen. It is there that we will find the coveted button with which you can turn off or restart Windows 8.1.

It is very convenient to use hotkeys to call this panel. Win+I, clicking on which open the Miracle Panel immediately and without unnecessary delay.

Using ALT+F4 on the classic desktop

This option is as old as the world, but nevertheless relevant. While in classic desktop mode, click on any empty space on your desktop and click ALT+F4. The "Shut down Windows" dialog will appear on the screen, which contains all available actions in the form of a drop-down list:

I love this dialogue, it's so warm, lamp-like, and reminds me of the glory days when I had WIndows 2000 installed on my machine. It was a long time ago.

Using the context menu of the Start button / Win+X menu

In Windows 8.1, the Start button reappeared on the taskbar. Its context menu is none other than the Win+X menu, also known as the "power user menu". It can also be invoked by pressing the combination Win+X on keyboard.

In Windows 8.1, it has the coveted options Shutdown, Restart and Logout.

Tip: You can customize the Win+X menu to your liking. To do this, use the free utility, with its help you can add, delete or sort items in this menu.

Function Slide to shutdown

This feature has been well known since the release of Windows 8.1 Preview. In my opinion, too much attention has been inflated to her on the network and a certain halo of mystery has been forced around her. In fact, there is nothing secret about it.

It was created for devices that support Connected Standby. This mode is something similar to how a modern smartphone turns off, with a similar model for managing the power of your device's hardware. For obvious reasons, Connected Standby is not supported by many desktop computers, and many tablets do.

My desktop computer is also overboard, which is not surprising:

If you press and hold the power button for 4 seconds, something like this will appear on a computer that supports this feature:

You can try the function on a regular computer by running this file:

C:\Windows\System32\SlideToShutDown.exe

If you drag the bar with the lock screen picture down with the mouse, the computer will turn off.

Command line, shutdown.exe utility

Windows 8.1 still includes the shutdown.exe command line utility. It would be unfair to deprive her of your attention:

shutdown -L- end the session of the current user, i.e. unplug it.

shutdown -s -t 0- shutdown.

shutdown -h- hybrid sleep.

shutdown -s -hybrid -t 0- hybrid shutdown, next boot will use fast boot.

That's all, perhaps.

In Windows 8, the design of the operating system has been significantly redesigned, when compared with the already classic "seven" or Win XP. The interface is now called Metro UI. Changes have affected the location of many elements, new ways to call various functions have appeared. Standard Menu "Start" replaced with a tiled interface. At the same time, the location of the Windows 8 shutdown and restart button has changed.

Ways to restart a computer in Windows 8

There are a large number of methods for restarting a computer in Windows 8. The simplest is the Restart button on the system unit. But it is recommended to use it only when the operating system freezes. In other cases, it is better to choose safer options, which will be discussed below.

Method 1: Charms menu

One of the innovations of the G8 was the appearance of the Charms panel. You can call it if you move the mouse to the far right corner of the screen. A menu containing five items will open. Choose among them "Options".Then click on the power icon at the bottom. A context menu will open with options to turn off the computer.

There is an alternative menu option "Options". It is enough to press the Win + I buttons at the same time. The further procedure is exactly the same.

Method 2: Hotkeys

You can also restart Windows 8 using hotkeys. The shutdown menu is activated via Alt + F4. Open the pop-up list and select the option to restart your computer. And then press "OK".

Method 3: New Start Menu

Though "Start" significantly redesigned, the computer shutdown menu remains. But the icon to call it has been moved to the upper right corner, next to the search icon and account name.
From there, you can restart your PC.

Method 4: Shortcut on the desktop

To restart the computer, you can make a special shortcut. In this case, it will be activated by double clicking. To do this, go to any folder or desktop. In a free field, press RMB. Then select "Create - Shortcut". In the box that appears, type in the following:

shutdown /r /f /t00

Then you need to specify a name for the shortcut, you can enter any, for example, Restart. When you double click on it, the system will restart.

Note: in the command attribute /t with a digital addition indicates the time until the PC is restarted. The example specifies a value of zero, but you can set any delay (written in seconds).

Some hardware or software failures require an emergency reboot of the operating system. This process is carried out in several ways, which are applied even when the mouse and touch pad of the touchpad are not responding. To restart, you will need instructions on how to turn off the laptop using the keyboard.

Keyboard shortcuts for restarting a laptop

Restarting during a freeze is necessary to exit the BIOS, where you can check the cause of the software failure. In the event of a hardware failure due to a system failure, restarting the computer can sometimes be very difficult (the mouse or touchpad touchpad on a laptop may not respond). There are several ways to restart the computer using the keyboard, which will be discussed later.

Reboot Methods for Windows

You can restart a computer running the Windows operating system in several ways:

  • method one;
  • second method. If a system failure paralyzed the computer almost completely (plus the equipment failed), then you need to call the task manager using the Ctrl + Alt + Del combinations.

In the top line you need to select "Shut down" and then the item "Restart". This method is for users whose PC is running Windows XP.

Standard reboot method

The standard method for rebooting a computer is to use the arrow keys.

In order to do this, you need to perform several sequential steps:

If applications were launched at the same time, a dialog box will appear where you will be prompted to end the running processes.

"Ctrl" + "Alt" + "Del"

Another method that allows you to restart your computer using the keyboard involves using the Ctrl + Alt + Del command combination.

Restarting the system is carried out as follows:

Users of Windows Vista and 7 need to select "Completion Options ..." (located in the lower right part of the dialog box) when the dialog box appears, and select "Restart" from the list provided.

The course of action includes:

Command line

You can reboot not only with the help of key combinations, but also through the command line. This option is suitable for owners of operating systems Windows XP/Vista/7/8 and 8.1.

  • after the command line window appears on the screen, you must enter the following commands: “shutdown -t 0 -r –f” (“-r” - is responsible for restarting the system “-f” - the parameter is responsible for forcibly stopping all running processes, the "-t 0" command is responsible for an instant reboot without closing processes);
  • then press the Enter key to confirm your selection.

The second option to restart via the command line is as follows:

The third method is only suitable for the Windows XP operating system:

  • first you need to call the command line;
  • then enter the command "rundll32 user.exe, ExitWindowsExec 2" and press "Enter".

How to restart the computer using the keyboard if it freezes

You can restart your PC not only with the mouse, but also with the keyboard.

During operation, the PC may freeze, for example, due to a lack of memory, in which resource-intensive applications simply grab RAM. Another reason for freezing can be a system crash, which occurs due to driver conflicts, registry errors, or applications not functioning properly.

Partially

In the event that the computer freezes only partially (that is, some equipment, such as a mouse, responds to commands), you can restart using standard methods:

Through the start menu:

"Ctrl+Alt+Del":

  • you need to type the desired combination on the keyboard;
  • then a dialog box will appear, in which at the bottom right side you need to select "Shutdown Options" and click "Restart" in the drop-down menu.

"Alt+F4":

  • first you need to type the combination "Alt + F4";
  • then the window "Shut down Windows" will appear;
  • then you need to activate the "Reboot" mode.

Fully

In the event that the operation of the computer is completely paralyzed, and the mouse does not obey, it is necessary to use more radical methods of restarting the hung computer.

"Ctrl+Alt+Del":

The second way is to press the "Reset" key on the front side of the system unit. This method is the most radical of all existing, as it entails the complete loss of unsaved data. It will be relevant only if the computer freezes completely, and the equipment (keyboard and mouse) does not respond to commands.

This article looked at ways to restart your computer using the keyboard for each version of the Windows operating system. These methods will be useful in cases where the computer freezes and the hardware fails.
