Asus x550c won't boot from disk. BIOS setup on ASUS X550c laptop. how to set bios on asus laptop

Hi all! Yesterday I got my hands on a new ASUS X501A laptop. It was necessary to install Windows, and everything you need, turnkey in short :). I twisted it and found that it does not have a CD / DVD drive. And this means that you need to create a bootable USB flash drive and install Windows 7 from it. Also, the drivers for it on the disk are included, you also need to copy them to a USB flash drive. Generally strange, a laptop without a drive, and the driver on the disk. It is necessary to put the driver in the kit already on the USB flash drive, well, or an external drive :).

Anyway. I created a bootable flash drive. First created with a special program Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool(I wrote about this), but I’ll say looking ahead that for some reason the installation of Windows 7 from this flash drive did not go. The white cursor just flashed and the installation did not continue. Recorded and everything worked. Why so, I did not understand :).

Everything, the flash drive is ready. Now you need to install the boot from this USB flash drive in the BIOS. Now I will tell you how to do it.

We set the boot from a USB flash drive on an Asus laptop

We go into the BIOS. For me, and most likely for you, this is a key F2 (if not, then try DEL). Press it immediately after starting the laptop.

The flash drive must already be connected to the laptop!

As you can see (in the screenshot below), I have under Boot Option #1 costs a hard drive. And under Boot Option #2 flash drive. You need to install a flash drive under #1.

To do this, click on Boot Option# 1 and select the flash drive. And the hard drive will automatically take second place.

You can return to the previous menu by clicking on Esc and you will see that the USB device is set under Boot Option #1.

Don't forget to click F10 and Yes to save the settings.

Everything, after restarting the laptop, the boot from the USB flash drive should go (if it is created correctly).

There is one nuance. Perhaps I made a mistake when setting the parameters in the BIOS, there probably just needed to create another boot rule (Add New Boot Option). But it's okay.

If you did everything like me, then most likely, during the installation of Windows, after rebooting, the boot from the USB flash drive will start. And you need with drive C to continue installation. I'm just in the moment of reboot pulled out a flash drive. And when the download started from the C drive, I inserted it back (although, it seems like it is no longer needed for installation, the files have already been copied, but I could be wrong).

Possible problems when installing Windows 7 from a USB 3.0 flash drive

You may have noticed that my USB drive is with the new USB 3.0 interface. And Windows 7 does not support USB 3.0, you need special drivers.

If the drive itself USB 3.0, then it's okay. Just plug it into your laptop USB 2.0 and everything will work.

This is what the USB 2.0 connector looks like on a laptop:

And this is what the USB 3.0 connector looks like:

The third blue and two letters SS near the icon.

Well, if you have all USB 3.0, then you will have to integrate the drivers into Windows 7. This is a topic for another article. Perhaps I will write how to do it. In the meantime, you can find this information on the Internet.

You can also find and download an assembly with Windows 7, which already has integrated drivers for USB 3.0. There are such.

This site has probably all the information that may be useful for installing the operating system and for solving problems that may arise during the installation process. You can use the site search. And if you can’t find something, then ask in the comments, I’ll tell you :). Good luck!

How to set boot from flash drive in BIOS on Asus laptop? A few tips for installing Windows 7 from a USB 3.0 flash drive updated: February 7, 2018 by: admin

BIOS. For an uninitiated person, this abbreviation sounds like a curse. What does it really mean? If you do not go into details of decoding and terminology, then BIOS provides communication between the system and hardware "1" ...

It's so short and clear. It is thanks to this set of functions and commands that the processor, RAM, keyboard, and so on can successfully interact with the operating system and together ensure the normal operation of the computer. Accordingly, if any of the most important elements of the laptop (for example, video) is missing, the BIOS will display a corresponding message and refuse to boot the system.

How to set up BIOS on an ASUS laptop

So, how to set up BIOS on an ASUS laptop? First of all, it should be mentioned that BIOS is now (in the last two years) divided into two types - classic (for machines k56c, x502c, x550c, x551m, and so on) and UEFI. We will not consider the second one, since everything is immediately in Russian, with built-in explanations and tips, etc. So let's deal with the classic BIOS, especially since it is now installed on 95 percent of machines.

Let's take a look at each tab one by one. So, turn on the computer and BEFORE the operating system starts to load, press the F9 key. If it doesn't work, try F2, F5, F8, F12 or, in extreme cases, Delete. Why such a large selection? Claims to the developers - as they want, they are appointed. Bad.

main. Well, as the name implies, here you can view and configure the main parameters - time, date, amount of RAM, processor, and so on.

advanced. Tab for advanced users. Settings and parameters of the system bus, memory, various built-in devices. It is better not to climb here without preliminary preparation.

security. Security, access control and so on. It is better not to wander here even with preliminary preparation.

power. Power management. Theoretically (theoretically!) by playing around with the settings on this tab, you can slightly increase the battery life of the laptop. Question: is it possible? We look at the answer in the second or third paragraphs.

Boot. Wow. So the very tab, which was visited by everyone who at least once got into the BIOS of their own free will. It is here, using the function called “Boot Device Priority” (in the details, the name may differ, but in general something like this) you can set the boot order of devices - a hard drive, an external drive, a flash drive. That is, to boot from a disk, to boot from a USB flash drive, to install Windows 7, you need to climb here.

exit. Here, in general, everything is also clear. Either we exit, discarding all changes, which is useful for those who have no idea what they just clicked (in this case, select Exit without changes), or we save the changes and go to reboot to apply them (Save & Exit).

Video instruction: How to enter and configure the ASUS K73 laptop BIOS to install WINDOWS 7 or 8 from a USB flash drive or disk.

If in a nutshell about the UEFI BIOS ... Well, despite the fact that this system has become widespread only in recent years, it was first used back in the distant year 2000. What is its advantage? More settings, functions and features, convenient and intuitive interface. Flaws? Firstly, most of these very settings are not needed by anyone, and secondly, in most cases, ONLY Windows 8 or 8.1 can be installed on laptops with UEFI.

It would seem that it is worth reinstalling the operating system on a computer, there is nothing difficult, especially if you have done it many times already. The very first thing to do is to set the BIOS to boot from a disk or flash drive where the distribution kit is located with the installation of the operating system. It turns out that not everything always happens as usual in a laptop. ASUS X550c the Windows 8 operating system was preinstalled, the manufacturer configured the BIOS in such a way that it is not immediately possible to find the boot priority, that is, booting from a disk or flash drive.

To change the settings, you need to enter the BIOS by pressing the F2 key when you turn on the computer.

In the tab Boot needed at the point Launch CSM set parameter Enabled. If it is not active, it often happens, you need to go to the tab security and vice versa Secure Boot Control install Disabled.

Then press the F10 key and re-enter BIOS. After restarting the item Launch CSM will become active. As I wrote above, you need to change the parameter to Enabled.

The item will appear. Launch PXE OpROM with parameter Disabled, you don't need to change it. For further settings, you will need to save and reboot, press the F10 key, go back to the BIOS. After the reboot, you need to enter the tab again Boot. We now have two boot areas available.

Asus X550L laptop BIOS setup for booting from a flash drive.

Hello, now I will tell you and even show you in pictures, how to configure BIOS for laptop Asus X550L series to boot from a flash drive or drive.
First, we need to enter the BIOS of the Asus X550L laptop, for this we turn on the laptop and as soon as the ASUS logo appears, we immediately press the "F2" key.

If everything is done correctly, then you will have such an image as in the photo.
This screenshot shows a brief specs of your laptop, including: what is the cost of the processor, how much RAM, BIOS version, BIOS microcode and others.
At the moment we are not interested go to the "BOOT" tab.

Here we will see that the primary boot is set to the hard drive. If you need to boot from a USB flash drive, then leave everything as in the photo.
Who needs to boot from the drive / disk, then change the boot priority to the drive. The priority changes in this way: select “Boot Option #1” with the arrows and press “Enter”, and select the drive from the menu that appears, in this example it is shown in the photo as “HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GU71N”.
P.S.: For those who needed to boot from the drive, you can save the settings. Press "F10" and "Enter".
And so we will continue.
Go to the “Hard Drive BBS Priorities” option, in this option we will see - all connected internal / external storage devices, including flash drives.

In the photo, we see 2 devices: the first is our 500 Gb hard drive from WD, and the second is our flash drive.
Again, we change the boot priority, we do the same as with the drive.
It should turn out like in my photo. We save the settings.
That's basically the whole BIOS setup of the Asus X550L laptop for booting from a USB flash drive.

So there is a lock on booting from a USB flash drive, to unlock it:
1. We go back to the BIOS.
2. Go to the tab “Security”.

3. Further into the option "I/O Interface Security".

Notebook Asus x550c on the principle of operation is no different from laptops from this and other manufacturers. Besides, installing Windows 7 on Asus x550c presents no particular problem. And if you already had experience installing an operating system on computers, then this procedure should be easy and hassle-free. Therefore, this article is to help those who install the operating system for the first time or want to once again make sure that the procedure is correct.

It is worth noting that Asus x550c laptops have 4 GB of RAM. Therefore, you need to install the 64-bit version of Windows 7. Otherwise, the system will be able to see only 3.5 GB of RAM.

First stage

The operating system is installed on the system drive "C", this one will be formatted, so if important information is stored on it, it must be rewritten to another drive, or to removable media. Be sure to look at the desktop, and make sure that there is also no important information there. The desktop is also located on the system drive and will be deleted during reinstallation.

Install boot from CD/DVD drive

To do this, you first need to get into the BIOS, so press the DEL or F2 key immediately after turning it on. The Asus x550c laptop motherboard requires pressing the F2 key. if in doubt, you can look at the hint at the bottom of the screen. If the BIOS has opened, go to the BOOT menu and here we assign the CD / DVD drive as the first to boot. If everything is ready, press the F10 key, and then Y.

Installation process

The operating system is loaded from the disk when any key is pressed in response to the system prompt "Press any key from boot to CD". This happens at the very beginning of the download. It may happen that the prompt does not appear, in which case you need to check the BIOS settings again.

First of all, the files necessary for further installation are copied from the DVD. It will take some time. If the files are copied, an inscription will appear "Starting Windows" followed by a familiar Windows-style window 7. Installation starts.

During the installation process, follow the instructions given in the dialog boxes. First you need to select the language of the dialogue. Then click "Next".

A new window appears and at this stage you need to select an action. Often users do not need to install the system from scratch. In this case, it is advisable to select the "System Restore" command. In our case, select "Install".

In the dialog box that opens, you need to select the edition of the Windows 7 operating system. The choice should be stopped on the one that will subsequently be activated. Usually on laptops, it is indicated on a piece of paper with a key, which is located on the bottom of the device. The serial number is entered at the very end of the installation.

Notebook Asus x550c, as mentioned above, supports the 64-bit version of Windows and it is best to install it, because then the full amount of RAM will be available. Select the desired option and click "Next".

In a new window, you can read the terms of the license. Check the box next to "I accept the license agreement" and click the "Next" button again. Unchecked, the installation will not continue.

In the window that appears, select the "Full installation" command.

In the new window that opens, you need to select the partition that will be used to install Windows 7. Care will be required here. One of the partitions is reserved by the system and its size is displayed in megabytes. You need to choose from the following sections, and to simplify the task, it is worthwhile to see how many gigabytes are available on the “C” drive before starting the installation.

If there is only one partition on the hard disk of the Asus x550c laptop and its size exceeds 250 GB, and in fact it is, then it is best to create two local disks. The first partition will be for installing Windows, and it is recommended to allocate about 50 to 100 GB here. All other gigabytes will remain on the other drive, and your personal information will be stored here.

It is worth paying special attention to the fact that the partitions you created must have the names Disk 0 Partition 1, 2, 3 ... Otherwise, the system will not be able to see a disk with a name, for example, “Free disk space”.

After creating the necessary sections, click "Apply".

This is where complications can arise. The operating system may ask the driver to continue the installation. Often the installer cannot see the hard drive. This happens if the hard drive is not divided into two or more partitions. To fix the situation, you need to return to the BIOS and switch the SATA controller mode from AHCI to IDE! You can also install the hard disk controller driver, if available.

If all these issues are resolved, select the "System" section and start formatting. We agree to delete all data from the disk and wait for the format to finish.
Then click "Next". The installation process has started.

Completing the installation

Typically, the entire installation process will take approximately 15 to 25 minutes. After its completion, a window will appear where you need to enter the computer name and username. If desired, enter a password and a hint.

Installation requires a serial number. If it is available, enter it in a specially designated field. If there is no number, uncheck the box next to "Activate automatically when connected to the Internet" and click "Next".

A couple more small settings indicating the security policy, time zone, network type and the installation of Windows 7 on the Asus x550c laptop is fully completed. Don't forget to go into the BIOS and set the priority to boot from the hard drive. And be sure to install all the necessary drivers. They are supplied on a disk with a laptop or downloaded from specialized sites.
