Technical characteristics of the laptop acer aspire v3. Notebook Acer Aspire V3: description, specifications, reviews. Additional keys and indicators

Most recently, we reviewed the world's first 15.6-inch ultrabook with discrete graphics, and today we will introduce you to a much less thin, but much more productive medium format Acer Aspire V3, based on the trendy hardware combination of Intel Ivy Bridge and NVIDIA Kepler.

Design

Though Aspire V3 looks very fresh and unusual for the Acer brand, the design of the V-series cannot be called absolutely new, since a similar solution has already been tested on the third generation line.

The lid of the laptop is finished with a glossy black plastic with a characteristic spark. Its surface is absolutely flat, only in the back part there is a small cut, smoothly transferring the silhouette to the silver tubular element in the back of the case.

The bottom is made of rough matte plastic, in which there are three perforation zones. Closer to the side faces, the bottom is rounded so noticeably that a separate ledge in the case had to be provided for the hard drive. To remove the six-cell 48 Wh battery, you will have to use the handle.

Silver black back Acer Aspire V3 does not contain connectors, on the pointed front edge you can find a card reader and four activity indicators.

Two USB ports, an optical disc drive (Blu-ray in this configuration) and a hole for a Kensington lock are placed on the right side. On the left side, you can find a pair of audio ports, one USB 3.0, HDMI and D-sub video outputs, a cooling system radiator, as well as an RJ45 network and a power supply jack.

The working panel is made according to a visually advantageous contrast scheme - a light top and a dark bottom. The palm rest is finished in the same glossy plastic as the lid. The entire upper part of the working area, including the island keyboard backing, is painted to look like metal, but in fact it is ordinary plastic.

Screen

Due to the rather weighty base of the case and the thoughtful shape of the lid Acer Aspire V3 can be easily opened with one hand. The maximum tilt angle of the display is noticeably wider than average, the two-hinge hinge is tight enough for comfortable use.

The internal edging of the screen is glossy, as well as the 15.6-inch matrix itself with a standard resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. The brightness of the backlight is adjustable from 20 to 160 cd / m2 within 9 gradations. The image quality of the display is below average, complaints arose not only about the traditionally small viewing angles of the TN-matrix, but also about the display of color gradients.

Ergonomics

A laptop Acer Aspire V3 equipped with an island-style keyboard with a dedicated numeric keypad. The keys are made of a rough material, the layout is interesting with the presence of a number block, a T-shaped block of arrows and a large Enter of a complex shape.

A number of function buttons are traditionally smaller for Acer than the rest of the keys. There are no additional buttons on the operating panel, a number of multimedia functions (play, stop, pause, rewind) are assigned to the top buttons of the digital block.

As we already mentioned, the palm area is made of shiny glossy plastic. The touchpad with a dedicated rocker key is integrated into the panel itself, while thanks to its clearly defined borders and rough surface, it is convenient to work with it.

During operation Acer Aspire V3 no special ergonomic flaws were found. The greatest claims were caused by the abundance of gloss, but the contrasting design, high-quality acoustics and a high level of performance can definitely be attributed to the advantages of this model.

Functionality

A laptop Acer Aspire V3 will go on sale in two main versions - a hybrid based on NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M / 640M “Kepler” integrated into the processor and discrete graphics, or only with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4000 solution. One of the widest range of solutions from Intel can be used as a central processor , starting with the budget Pentium B960 and ending with the most powerful quad-core Intel Core i7 “Ivy Bridge”.

You can see the characteristics of the model that we have (test sample) in the corresponding table; in this configuration, it scored 2650 points in PCmark7 and 3000 points in 3Dmark11.

Battery Life Acer Aspire V3 was 1 hour 10 minutes at maximum load and almost 4 hours in read mode, which is quite good for a system with a powerful quad-core processor and discrete graphics.

First deliveries Acer Aspire V3 should arrive in Ukraine in early June, the cost of a basic configuration based on an Intel Core iX Ivy Bridge processor, 4 GB of RAM, 750 GB of HDD and NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M graphics will be 7555 UAH.

Results

Acer Aspire V3 is a new 15-inch laptop based on the highly anticipated Intel Ivy Bridge platform and equipped with the latest NVIDIA Kepler discrete graphics. The creators of this model did not pursue the trendy thinness of the body, equipped it with a full set of necessary connectors and a comfortable keyboard, as a result, the Aspire V3 can become a fairly successful workhorse.

Product provided by Acer,

15-inch screen, good autonomy and good gaming performance

We have already had the opportunity to evaluate the Trinity platform in action, with a performance report of which you can find in the corresponding article. But, of course, from the point of view of the user, it is more interesting how “commodity” laptops on this platform will show themselves. Well, let's get down to reviewing the first laptop from the new family.

Acer is known for its consistent policy of supporting all platforms available on the market, and, of course, Trinity also prepared a solution - this is a full-size model in the most common format with a 15-inch screen. The laptop is relatively inexpensive, with integrated video (there is no discrete graphics card), but let's not forget that this is the most powerful integrated video on the market. Therefore, the laptop may also be of interest to moderately minded gamers. However, we will not be content with assumptions, but right now we will check all this in practice.

Design and functionality

The laptop has a glossy black lid surface, and there's plenty of gloss on the inside too, with the palm rest and screen edge to be noted here, as well as the LCD matrix itself. However, for home use, such a design is quite acceptable and even, one might say, familiar to most potential consumers. On the other hand, it is impossible to call this laptop a very ordinary “appearance”. The silver keyboard panel attracts attention (but the material here is the same - plastic). Another thing is that such a color scheme is already associated with another brand of Acer - Packard Bell.

The laptop weighs no more, but no less than other 15-inch models: about 2.6 kg. The thickness of 3.3 cm does not allow us to call the Acer Aspire V3-551 thin, but this is its plus - it is possible to place a fairly efficient and low-noise cooling system in the case.

The build quality is good, the gaps are uniform. The lid hinges are quite tight; when vigorously opened by one of the edges of the lid, it even bends slightly. Good news for those who are not satisfied with the limited opening angle of the lid: in this model, the screen can be opened almost completely.

The left side is occupied by video outputs (VGA and HDMI), there is also a USB 3.0 port, analog audio outputs, a power connector and a gigabit Ethernet socket.

On the right side are two USB 2.0 ports, a Kensington lock slot and an optical drive slot. Finally, in the left corner of the front panel there is a universal card reader for flash cards. There were no comments on the convenience of using ports during testing.

The bottom surface is extremely moderately “perforated”, so that the user holding the laptop on his lap is unlikely to block the main ventilation holes located in the center. And when the laptop is on the table, the developed rubber-coated feet will contribute to the cooling efficiency, which leave a sufficient ventilation gap and hold the laptop well even on an inclined surface.

Through the hatch in the bottom wall there is access to the hard drive, RAM modules and wireless network adapter. To clean the fan from dust, you will have to remove the bottom cover completely, which is also technically simple, but still not available to all users.

Keyboard

The keys have a short stroke, a fairly clear informative pressing. However, when typing fast, the keyboard can feel a bit noisy. Those who are accustomed to using the numeric keypad will be pleased with its presence, respectively, those for whom the centering of the alphabetic field is more important may be upset about this. Of the objective claims, only the controversial decision to build on the Enter key with the slash characters can be noted. This is clearly done only for the sake of design, because there is no practical need to highlight this key in this way, and the probability of hitting by Enter in this case increases. The cursor keys are also too small for their active use in games.

Touchpad and positioning devices

The touchpad has a pleasant, slightly rough finish and is recessed into the panel by a few millimeters. However, while working with text, there will certainly be a desire to turn it off, which can only be done using a key combination from the top row of the keyboard simultaneously with Fn. The default sensitivity setting is not very good: the cursor moves much faster horizontally than vertically. Meanwhile, there is no own convenient utility for adjusting the sensitivity in the kit. The key under the touchpad is fused, respectively, the pressing force at the center and along the edges is different.

Additional keys and indicators

There are no additional buttons, and even the top row of function keys is not fully loaded with additional functionality. There is only the bare necessities: the ability to turn off the wireless adapter, switch to an external monitor, turn off the touchpad, etc. Brightness and volume are controlled using the cursor keys, which is quite logical.

There are also few indicators, the main ones showing disk activity and wireless adapter operation mode are built into the front panel.

Screen and sound subsystem

The matrix has a classic resolution of 1366 × 768 pixels, which is very comfortable to "read" on a 15.6-inch screen. On the one hand, the technical level of matrices has long allowed for a higher resolution on a screen of this size. But for games and videos, it is more than enough, and even more so for text, especially if the user does not have perfect vision. In a word, this is the case when cheaper and simpler means both greater convenience and versatility. The matrix, of course, has a modern LED backlight, but it does not differ in excess brightness, most likely, a 90-100% level will be constantly set.

Color rendition is not satisfactory, the color temperature is quite cold, but the obvious blue-white color does not cast in daylight. Vertical visibility is traditionally a weak point of all modern notebook TN+Film matrices, and this is already a fairly long-standing drawback, and, apparently, it is not so easy to eliminate it within the framework of this technology. However, due to the fact that the opening angle of the lid of this laptop is wide enough, adjusting the screen so that the image looks comfortable is not difficult.

The speakers are installed in the most advantageous place, in terms of sound quality, built into the panel above the keyboard. Indeed, for their size and mobile application, they sound more than satisfactory. Even instrumental music can be listened to not without pleasure, but for everything else, especially, the quality is enough. Connecting the headphones confirmed that there are no complaints about the analog output either.

Configuration and equipment

One of 4 modern APU models (A10/A8/A6/A4) can be installed as a processor. Some configurations have a Radeon HD 7670M discrete graphics card with 1 or 2 GB of VRAM. In addition, the variable is the amount of memory and hard disk.

In our case, an older processor was installed and generous 8 GB of DDR3-1333 memory with two 4 GB sticks (of course, the memory works in dual-channel mode).

The graphics core, called the Radeon HD7660G, is nothing short of the most powerful version of the graphics integrated into the Trinity family of APUs.

The Piledriver architecture is a further development of Bulldozer, and indeed this version is already quite well "combed", so that it shows an advantage in most tests that load the processor's computing units. Only the result in DivX is somewhat out of line, however, a rather old version was used here (for compatibility with previously filmed results), which may simply “not like” Bulldozer.

As for the test in games, in this case we used high quality settings and, nevertheless, got a "playable" frame rate. It should be added that in the case of HP dv7 and Acer 5560G laptops, the graphics integrated into the chipset worked as part of a CrossFire bundle with the corresponding discrete cards. However, in FarCry 2, a single APU from the Trinity family turned out to be even better than both bundles!

As for subjective sensations, the laptop leaves almost no reason to complain about slowness in everyday work. And yes, there really is an opportunity to launch and play almost any modern game with a decent level of quality.

The Winchester showed not the most outstanding performance, and perhaps users for whom application loading speed is critical should pay attention to the bundle with a 7200 rpm disk or even think about an SSD.

Battery life

Testing was carried out in two modes: a cyclic playback of two high-bitrate HD-videos in H.264 format was carried out, and the battery was planted in idle mode (imitation of thoughtful typing or text editing) when the maximum power saving profile was activated and the screen brightness was reduced to 30%, but at enabled wireless adapter.

We already had time to rejoice at the battery life of full-sized laptops based on the Trinity platform in the engineering sample review mentioned above. It is all the more pleasant to make sure that production models are able to hold out on the battery for a very long time. Most likely, the average user will solve their problems before the battery runs out.

Heat and noise

Let's take a look at the temperature. The data was taken from the AIDA64 utility during the load test.

The laptop has a complete order with the temperature regime. The laptop itself also heats up very moderately: the bottom surface only on the left side during the load test detects some heating, but also no more than 37 ° C. At the same time, the touchpad also gets warm, although we have become accustomed to the fact that the top surface of most modern laptops remains cool even under heavy load. But I emphasize that this effect is manifested only in the mode of a long-term high load on the processor, which is generally not typical for laptops. The rest of the time, you are unlikely to notice heating, even if you hold the laptop on your lap.

The idle noise is barely noticeable in a quiet room (29 dBA), when a load occurs, the fans almost immediately spin up to a level of 31-32 dBA, which also does not bother at all. Under continuous load, the maximum noise level that we were able to squeeze out of the laptop is 35.5 dBA, and the maximum corresponds to a long load on the computing cores. If the graphics part of the APU is mainly loaded, then the cooling system uses a more conservative mode, allowing the processor to heat up a little more.

conclusions

First of all, the laptop can be recommended to those users for whom efficiency, low heat and noise level, combined with a long battery life, are important. Yes, these parameters are not always critical when it comes to full-sized laptops, but if a person does not move on foot, then he may well prefer such a laptop to any portable one. The fact is that it allows you to work with greater comfort, which means more efficiently; in addition to what is especially pleasant, he manages to cope with the entertainment load no less effectively.

We did not find any significant shortcomings in the design of the laptop, there are some little things, like a touchpad that is not very convenient, but they do not spoil the overall impression of this model.

Medium current price (in brackets - the number of offers that you can click on to go to the list of available in Moscow retail) Acer Aspire V3-551: N/A(0)

The entry into the market of the Acer Aspire V3 series of notebooks in various modifications clearly did not go unnoticed by either potential buyers or competitors. Judging by the numerous reviews in the media, the advantages of a mobile device are innumerable, first of all, it is a low price and very high performance. In this article, the reader will be able to get to know the culprit of the hype in the laptop market. Having learned the technical characteristics, advantages and disadvantages, as well as having studied the reviews of the owners, anyone can independently draw conclusions about the device and make the right decision before making a purchase.

Positioning the device in the global market

The Acer Aspire V3 is designed for home use and is aimed at owners who need the most powerful mobile device to run all sorts of multimedia applications. However, in our country, for some reason, it is generally accepted that the presence of a sufficiently powerful discrete adapter indicates that the device is aimed at the gaming market. This is an erroneous opinion, because the video system is still in demand in working with video editors or viewers, graphic editors that use video filters, in plotting and 3D modeling.

And if we are talking about games, then the user should initially know that Acer Aspire V3 series laptops are not positioned on the market as mobile gaming devices.

Branded packaging from the manufacturer

As subtly noted: "Meet by clothes." The buyer needs to perceive the decision of the manufacturer to abandon the luxury packaging as a desire to reduce the price for this mobile device. In fact, the box is needed only to bring the laptop to the door of the house. It is made of ordinary cardboard and presented in the form of a diplomat. On one end of the box, the manufacturer gave a brief description of the functionality of the laptop. And on the main panel of the packaging there is even a graphic image of the device itself with the name of the modification.

The package bundle of the device is a little more interesting: the Acer Aspire V3 laptop itself, a Recovery disk for restoring the Windows system, drivers, a power supply, a quick guide and a rag case. Some modifications of mobile devices, as noted by the owners in the reviews, are supplied with complete instructions for setting up the system and operating the laptop. Regarding the cover in the kit, opinions agree that it is designed to protect the device from dust and moisture during storage.

First meeting

The design of the laptop is more conservative. The complete absence of glamorous bevels along the edges, additional patterns on the laptop lid and mirror gloss on all surfaces make it clear to a potential buyer that he has a device for business and home use, and not just another toy for the envy of others.

Due to the fact that the Acer Aspire V3 laptop has many modifications, the manufacturer decided to release several types of case design - metal and plastic. This decision allowed to significantly expand the target audience of buyers.

A laptop in a metal case is less prone to fingerprints, and its appearance, unlike a plastic device, is more presentable. However, do not forget that you will have to pay extra for a metal solution, the manufacturer made such an innovation not free.

The most important component

Acer has a rather strange attitude towards its customers. All modifications existing on the market have different liquid crystal matrices, and it seems that the manufacturer put what he had at hand at that time. Business-class 17-inch devices received a low-quality TN + Film matrix, but with support for FullHD resolution. The classic 15-inch laptop was not the luckiest of all, it was equipped with an antediluvian TN matrix with a resolution of 1366 x 768 dpi. Even the LED backlighting, implemented to equalize the color balance of the screen, is not able to reflect true black.

But 13-inch devices, the same Acer Aspire V3 371, reviews of which in the media assure that the device is aimed at mobile users, have received all the latest technologies. This is an IPS-matrix, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and LED backlight. Naturally, this series of laptops has excellent color reproduction and excellent viewing angles, and, accordingly, there will be no negative feedback from buyers in the media.

Interfaces and Connectors

We are very pleased with the decision of the manufacturer to install an optical drive in the line of Acer Aspire V3 notebooks. As practice shows, the technology is again in demand after USB-drives began to fail over their service life. The DVD drive is missing only in the 13-inch device, which is why there are a lot of negative reviews in the media, because instead of a drive, the manufacturer did not deign to place additional connectors, leaving the panel empty.

The right panel of devices, in addition to the optical drive, contains a connector for connecting a charger, two USB ports, an audio output for connecting headphones and a corresponding microphone input. The left panel of the laptop has two more USB connectors, an RJ-45 connector for connecting to a local network, an HDMI output and an analog signal output implemented as an old D-Sub interface. It is worth noting that there is also a huge grille with a radiator on the same panel, through which hot air is removed from the processor and video card.

Here is the keyboard!

When you open the lid of the laptop, the first thing that catches your eye is a chic keyboard. It is very important that the manufacturer did not get smart, as he did with screens, and provided all his devices, including the most popular Acer Aspire V3 571g line, with a great and practical input device. The keyboard is complete: there is a numeric keypad, all buttons are full-sized and are separated from each other by a couple of millimeters.

The key travel is short, but very hard, with little feedback to the finger. Even the long space bar is able to control the pressure. Judging by the numerous reviews in the media, the owners express special gratitude to the manufacturer for installing a professional input device.

It's rather strange to see function buttons on full-sized keyboards. However, upon closer examination, everything falls into place - the buttons control the wireless interfaces, screen and sound. It is a pity that the manufacturer decided to save money here, because the keys separately placed on the device panel would have looked much more elegant.

Special attention - touch panel

A rather strange touchpad is installed in an Acer Aspire V3 laptop. User feedback on this issue is twofold. On the one hand, the touchpad has a matte finish with a slight roughness. This solution allows you to effectively control the sliding of your finger. Accordingly, the touchpad can even be used to create sketches in drawing.

On the other hand, the touchpad attracts a lot of questions regarding size and placement. It is not clear why the manufacturer drowned it a couple of millimeters deep, reducing it in size, and the placement of the touch panel almost on the front end of the laptop causes negative emotions when using it. After all, it is inconvenient to constantly keep the hands on weight. Also, many users were outraged by the lack of multi-touch technology for the touchpad.

nice sound

Recently, most manufacturers do not pay attention to the audio system of their devices, and this has already become the norm, which cannot be said about the Acer Aspire V3 laptops. Reviews of the owners of this gadget assure that they have not heard such a wonderful sound for a long time. The speakers are located under the panel between the screen and the keyboard. They are positioned as a stereo system, but the manufacturer decided not to stop there and provided them with the Home Theater function, which is implemented through the standard Realtek driver.

Users note that the sound quality extends to the audio output, which honestly gives a range from 40 Hz to 15 kHz. And if we compare the sound quality on active speakers connected to the laptop's audio jack, then it is no worse than an entry-level external sound card from Creative E-MU 0204USB. This is a serious statement from the manufacturer Acer in the market of multimedia devices.

About "goodies"

All potential buyers will be interested to know that the concept of "weak components" is completely absent for the entire line of Acer Aspire V3 notebooks. The technical characteristics of all devices begin with a description of the processor. Depending on the modification, you can find Core i3, i5 and i7 processors, under which the manufacturer has installed the corresponding sets of RAM, the volume of the latter varies in the range of 4-16 GB.

Manufacturer-installed video adapters start with the GeForce GT 640M gaming line. Judging by the numerous reviews from satisfied owners, there are very often Nvidia GeForce GTX 760M video adapters that work in conjunction with the integrated 4600 adapter and can be turned off by hardware to save battery power.

Most laptops have modern SSD drives with a capacity of 120 to 240 GB. Seventeen-inch devices are equipped with two hard drives: SSD and HDD. And this is for the entire line of Acer Aspire V3. BIOS-system from failures and is duplicated by an additional chip, as is implemented on gaming computers.

Autonomy of work

Many potential buyers are never interested in the autonomy of high-performance laptops, because a priori these are two mutually exclusive factors - either performance or autonomy. Unless we are talking about laptops of the Acer Aspire V3 series. The battery in all devices is guaranteed not to let the device turn off for two hours at a constant load of the processor and video card no more than 70% - this is the majority of dynamic games.

Watching a video will allow you to use the battery life up to four hours, like any laptop of this class. However, users note that it is not possible to extend the operating time of the device from a single charge by disabling wireless interfaces, since their consumption is negligible compared to basic components. If you hardware disable the discrete video adapter and lower the screen brightness, you may be able to win twenty to thirty minutes of battery life.

Positive points

Many owners of Acer Aspire V3 devices will appreciate the characteristics of wireless interfaces. All laptops have a Wi-Fi module from the well-known Qualcomm Atheros brand, which, according to IT specialists, is considered the most stable in the world today and will never hang from overheating or transferring large amounts of information. Also, all mobile systems are equipped with a modern Bluetooth 4.0 module supporting all available technologies that comply with this standard.

The wired interface for connecting the Internet or a local network is gigabit and implemented on the basis of the well-known company Broadcom. When installing components, the manufacturer prefers only well-known brands that provide their products with a long warranty period. So, Kingston's RAM modules have a lifetime warranty, and hard drives from the Japanese manufacturer Toshiba are limited to five years of operation.

All users, without exception, are very pleased that the manufacturer has installed in all models of the Acer Aspire V3 series a modern webcam with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels, FullHD support and video recording speeds up to 60 frames per second.

Equipment features

Quite interestingly, the manufacturer acted with equipping laptops with an operating system. In most cases, the buyer is offered a laptop without Windows, however, each such device comes with a recovery disk, from which any owner can deploy the mentioned operating system on their device.

Some modifications, on the contrary, have a license system with a sticker on the case, as is implemented for all devices

Today we are getting acquainted with the Acer aspire v3-571g laptop, which was able to show itself mostly from a very positive side. Is Acer satisfied with the image of a manufacturer of faceless budget laptops? Apparently not: in the new season, the Taiwanese manufacturer began to pay much more attention than before to the appearance of their mobile computers. The new series of laptops are nothing like those gray-brown "shovels", which Acer offered before.

In our review, we will consider the Aspire V3-571 model - a mid-range laptop for home use, which most likely replaced the home model of the previous season Aspire 5755. In theory, it should compete with mid-range laptops - HP Pavilion dv6, Asus N56 , Lenovo IdeaPad Z850, etc. Let's see if the Aspire V3 is up to the mark.

Specifications

The new Aspire V3 (Value) series of notebooks is a typical line of entry-level devices, not mid-range, focused primarily on virtual entertainment use. This is no longer a simple universal laptop designed for the widest possible category of users, but also not a powerful mid-range home laptop. As part of the V3 series, three devices are produced on the Intel platform - with diagonals of 14″ (V3-471), 15.6″ (V3-571) and 17.3″ (V3-771), their full counterparts will go on sale later, but on the Amd Comal platform.

Notebook Aspire V3-571 is built on the Intel Chief River platform, however, due to the shortage of new processors, it began to be shipped in configurations with processors of the previous generation. In particular, our test unit is equipped with an inexpensive Core i3-2350M processor. As if as compensation for such a processor, the manufacturer installed 6 GB of RAM and a 750 GB hard drive - a rather rare and poorly balanced combination turned out.

The laptop, of course, uses discrete (more precisely, switchable) graphics: our copy has a GeForce GT 630M video card, but we plan to release configurations with a more powerful GeForce GT 640M. By the way, a rather unpleasant situation has developed with this video card. Judging by the name, this should be a new generation model. In fact, Nvidia decided to release lower-end video cards of the 600 series based on the previous architecture, but according to a new, more "thin" technology (to reduce energy consumption). But since there is not enough technological capacity yet, the GeForce GT 630M video card will use an old chip in the first batches, similar to that in the GeForce GT 540M and GT 435M models. That is, in our copy of the Aspire V3 laptop, a GeForce GT 540M is actually installed, but with a higher frequency of the graphics chip - 800 MHz versus 672 MHz for the original version.

The Aspire V3 has a standard set of interfaces for budget models: three USB ports, one of which complies with the USB 3.0 standard, two video outputs - VGA and HDMI, two audio jacks (one with headset support), wireless and wired network controllers, Bluetooth. It is interesting to note that the device is equipped with a Wi-Fi module supporting 5-GHz 802.11a standard (manufactured by Qualcomm): these are usually installed in expensive business laptops designed for traveling around the world. It is not clear why in a regular home model support for a radio standard that is not certified in Europe is unclear.

The location of the connectors in this laptop is quite standard. The video and audio ports are placed on the left side, where we will also find a USB 3.0 port and an RJ45 network socket. Two USB 2.0 ports are installed in front of the right side for convenience. The card reader is located on the leading edge on the left, access to it is easy. The internal layout is also standard for Acer: the cooling system on the left (ventilation grill on the side), the video card in the center, the battery in the back, the hard drive and memory slots in the front (access to them is provided by a wide cover on the bottom).

For some reason, the Acer laptop is equipped with a standard battery with a capacity of about 48 Wh. It is clear that it is not designed for productive work outside the permanent workplace, but other manufacturers usually offer more capacious batteries even in the lower price class.

Thus, in terms of technical specifications, the Aspire V3 is a rather modest notebook on the Intel platform, unified with numerous budget devices from the same manufacturer. Only a mid-range graphics card puts out an entertainment-oriented model in it. By the way, Samsung has practiced a similar approach so far: all its laptops had an identical filling and differed only in design and finishing materials.

Design

For the new mid-range laptop, Acer has opted for a strict, classic style that is close to that of the expensive Ethos line and, oddly enough, Samsung's previous generation line of laptops (such as the RC530). The emphasis in the appearance of the Aspire V3 is made on the contrast of matte silver and glossy black ( "piano lacquer") panels. The angular and relatively thin (33 mm) case with an abundance of flat surfaces has narrow sidewalls characteristic of Acer, strongly beveled downwards, and a cylindrical rear part borrowed from the Ethos series (however, the ends of the cylinder are not illuminated). The flat massive lid on both sides is framed in black lacquer, the flat platform for the wrists protruding a millimeter upwards is made of the same lacquered plastic.

The inner panel is silvery, smooth, contains slots for keys (island keyboard without stencil) and a wide decorative panel with fine perforations. The sides and bottom of the case are made of a single piece of fine-grained pleasant plastic. In general, the laptop looks classic, even a little old-fashioned, thanks to which, according to the designers, it should fit well into a modern black and white interior in a minimalist or hi-tech style.

In addition to black and silver, gray-silver and all-silver versions are also available, which look less contrasting and bright. Perhaps later bright colors will be added to this model.

The finish of the Aspire V3 laptop does not use metal, which is fashionable today - only plastic, and mostly glossy. Naturally, black varnish gets dirty quickly, but, fortunately, it also cleans up quickly. The case materials seem to be of high quality and reliable, the assembly is done at the level, the case does not creak and has no noticeable defects. But, of course, the developers failed to achieve rigidity: the panels and especially the lid sag when pressed hard. Nevertheless, thanks to the thick plastic and even distribution of density, this laptop gives the impression of a more or less durable and stable device. I also liked the lid hinge, which allows tilting up to 150 °. However, the Aspire V3 is clearly not up to the level of design and finish of good mid-range devices - after all, this is a budget laptop.

Screen

Our test unit was equipped with an inexpensive 15.6″ screen from LG. In general, in terms of the sum of the parameters, the image quality seemed to us higher than that of many cheap matrices installed in budget laptops. More specifically, I liked the more or less adequate color reproduction and normal, although not ideal, color gamut (except for red shades).

However, the viewing angles of the Acer laptop screen are small, the contrast is not higher than average, and for some reason the gamma is greatly overestimated, which leads to visual fading of the image. Insufficient for the home model seemed to stock brightness. And, of course, the glossy surface of the screen well reflects everything around.

Sound

The Acer notebook is equipped with two speakers mounted above the keyboard under a decorative grille. Nearby are the Dolby logos and the inscription "Professionally Tuned", which obviously implies some kind of exceptional sound quality.

However, nothing really special: the usual level of quality for an entry-level laptop. The volume reserve is small, the transmission of high and especially low frequencies is rather weak, no brightness or expressiveness was noted.

Keyboard

The Sony-style chiclet keyboard is a very aesthetic and comfortable device, which, unfortunately, is not used by all laptop manufacturers. Acer changed its mind and began to replace the keyboard of its own invention with a standard island one (sorry, not in all models).

The Aspire V3 keyboard has a practical standard layout, with all the service keys in place, widely spaced "cursors", long side keys. There is a full-sized numeric field, a standard row of text navigation keys. The key labels are clear, contrasting, additional icons are applied in gray-blue on the keys of the top row.

The Acer laptop's keyboard mechanism is quite comfortable and familiar thanks to the average travel depth (2 mm), a hard backing and a softer-than-usual threshold. Typing does not tire, neighboring keys do not touch - in general, the keyboard fits perfectly for a home device.

Display and buttons

The indication in the Acer laptop is preserved, although, for the sake of a minimalist style, the LEDs are moved to the lower edge of the leading edge. There are only four of them, it is difficult to confuse. There are no keyboard indicators, instead there are small pop-up windows on the screen.

The manufacturer did not provide additional buttons. To control multimedia, it is supposed to use a number of navigation keys.

touchpad

The touchpad of the Acer laptop is traditionally strongly shifted to the left. Its area is relatively small - 92×48 mm, there is a raised selection of the scroll bar and a small solid button under the touch area. grainy "teflon" the surface provides an unusually easy sliding of the finger, which sometimes leads to errors when tapping: instead of clicking the left mouse button, the panel recognizes the selection of a fragment or registers a click in another place. The touchpad manufacturer is Synaptics, the model used is quite old, supporting only two-finger actions.

Performance

The Aspire V3 laptop is based on a 2012 Intel platform, but due to the presence of an old 2nd generation Core i3 processor in our test configuration, the test results will not be of interest. We've included data from another Core i3 laptop, the Acer Travelmate 5760, to make sure the PCMark 7 and Windows 7 SAT scores are completely predictable. Since the Aspire V3 was equipped with a 2350M processor at 2.3 GHz, and the Travelmate 5760 - 2330M at 2.2 GHz, the performance of the latter is 6-8% lower. The exception is tests that actively use the video card - in Aspire V3 it is discrete, so its results are noticeably higher.

By the way, about the video card GeForce GT 630M. In theory, thanks to the higher GPU frequency, it should easily beat the standard GeForce GT 540M in all cases. To check this, we provide test data for the Acer Aspire 5755 laptop, and at the same time test data for a new model from the same manufacturer (Aspire M3-581G), but with a GeForce GT 640M video card.

Oddly enough, in most cases, the results of the Aspire V3 are the lowest, and in some places frankly a failure. Apparently, the video card in this unit does not work at full capacity. Both the inexpensive processor and the problems of the laptop itself can be blamed for this.

Battery Life

Alas, the small capacity of the battery inevitably led to the low performance of the Acer laptop in terms of battery life. In the absence of load, it does not require recharging for only 6 hours, and with active use of Wi-Fi, the battery is discharged in 5 hours.

The average power consumption was 8.6 W, which is an average result for laptops on this platform.

Noise and heat

Traditionally, cooling has been the weak point of Acer laptops. Here and in the Aspire V3 model, this is not all right. And although formally the size of the radiator seems to be sufficient, the temperature is brought to it inefficiently and is dissipated on other components of the case: during the game, the touchpad (37 °), the center of the keyboard (40 °) warms up noticeably, and the wrist area has a not very comfortable temperature of 34-36 °. However, the laptop makes noise only under load and not much, at an average level for models with discrete graphics, and in general does not cause much discomfort to the user.

However, during testing, we found unpleasant behavior of the CPU and GPU. A couple of minutes after the launch of the 3D application, the GPU frequency drops from 800 to 450 MHz, that is, the 3D accelerator switches to the Low Power 3D mode provided for by its settings. At the same time, the CPU frequency begins to periodically drop from 2.3 to 1.5 GHz. According to the monitoring data, the temperatures of both chips at this moment are not critical (less than 85°), therefore, the temperature and power consumption control logic fails. Perhaps this error is software and will soon be corrected by the manufacturer (but so far the firmware replacement does not help), however, the insufficient efficiency of the cooling system cannot be ruled out. It may be that the developers were counting on the cooling system for the new Nvidia video cards, but for the first time they had to install an old, more "gluttonous". Be that as it may, the reason for the abnormal performance of the laptop's video card has been found.

conclusions

The Aspire V3 model is built on the same principle as most other Acer laptops: a productive stuffing is packed into an inexpensive chassis with a cheap design. The cost of the device, which is higher than that of other models, is essentially not justified by anything, except for an unusual design. Yes, and that turned out to be quite controversial. Of course, the laptop has its advantages, but it clearly does not reach the level of the best representatives of the middle class. If the price of the Aspire V3 is reduced to the level of budget models, then, of course, it will have some success with buyers.
