Sony's new TV. Sony TVs: which one is better to buy and what the reviews of users and experts say. Which Sony TV to buy

Sony will focus on 4K, HDR (high dynamic range) and Android TV this year. More premium models will be offered, and HD models will also not have Android TV support. All 4K TVs will include HDR support, but if you want optimal HDR you need to look towards high-end TVs.

2016 TV lineup review

3D, like curved TVs, has never been a priority for Sony. Sony is only offering one curved TV in 2016. 3D remains in some models, but without development. And you can even say that the 2016 model is largely a continuation of 2015. But there have been some changes in technology.

The first theme for Sony in 2016 is development of 4K technology for screens and HDR... Thanks to these parameters, the image is raised to a new level, so they say at Sony.

We can say that the development of technology for expanding dynamic range (HDR) plays a greater role in this than 4K. With HDR, you can more accurately display video scenes with high contrast.

HDR content will begin to appear with the release of the first UHD Blu-Ray discs. Similarly, on the Internet, some services offer streaming video in HDR quality. These are Amazon, Netflix and Vudu, but it's worth saying that HDR content is still scarce. YouTube also plans to start broadcasting an HDR signal in 2016, but to receive it, the TV must have a VP9-PROFILE2 decoder.

Sony TVs Will Not Support UHD Premium Certification... The UHD Alliance requires a TV to be 4K resolution, 90% DCI-P3 color gamut, HDR and 1000 nits peak brightness, and 0.05 nits black brightness to qualify for this certification. Sony says two of its high-end TVs will be able to meet these requirements, but the company itself will introduce its own "4K HDR" logo for them.

For a wide range of colors Sony uses its Triluminos backlight system... This means that the TV is capable of displaying more colors than traditional devices. But you need to remember to get the maximum result and the signal must correspond to these technologies.

Another big topic for Sony in 2016 is operating system Android TV... Last year, Google's Android OS was introduced to Sony TVs.

This system is now an integral part of Sony TVs. Smart TV functionality works on its basis. Later this year, there will be an update on 2015 and 2016 TVs to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Sony does not disclose all the technical parameters of new models, it was only said that a faster processor is used in 2016. A new remote control will be supplied with all Android TVs... It features a large Netflix button.

The flagships of 2016, the XD93 and XD94, this year come without special acoustics on the sides of the screen, as they did last year. But there is one important difference between the two. The XD94 features a Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) system that is capable of dimming the backlight in multiple zones. With this backlight, real HDR is obtained. The XD93 will use a special Edge LED side lighting called "Slim Backlight Drive". It uses two rows of LEDs and two diffusers. This allows you to increase the number of local dimming zones.

The lower class will be the XD85 series. This is a side-lit 4K LED model with HDR processing. There will be no true HDR, only "processing" because these models cannot reach the same peak brightness as the XD94 / XD93. The S85C is analogous to the XD85 only with a curved screen.

The next WD7 series will come with HD resolution and no Android TV. But there will still be some smart features. After the WD7 series, there are also WD6 and Rd4.

Later this year, Sony may add more 4K models and show them at IFA. But now there are only these series. And the choice is simple, choose the XD85 if you want a mid-range TV. Choose the SD85 if you want the same device, but with a curved display. But if you want a high-end picture with true HDR, then go for either the XD93 or XD94 depending on the size. All 4K models will be equipped with a dual tuner. A wireless speaker system will be supplied for 4K TVs.

Sony TVs 2016 will have the letter "D" in the marking.

Television has been and remains the central focus of attention in many homes. But if before he was loved simply because he is and shows at least something, now the requirements have changed. We no longer want the TV to hum like a locomotive and take up half of the room. We want a stylish slim screen, high image quality, and a lot of advanced features. Why not? We can afford it! It's not for nothing that Sony is trying so hard, inventing new and new models.

Sony rarely pleases us with its new products. But what the Japanese have to offer is always worth paying attention to, always having to wait. The company specializes in the production of smartphones, home electronics, game consoles and innovative technological developments for the educational sector.

Today Sony Corporation is one of the top 5 largest developers of next generation technologies. But it was not always so. Since the distant 1946 (when Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka founded the company), the Sony team has gone from making tape recorders to making powerful 3D cameras and TVs with incredible image quality.

First black and white Sony TV TV8-301 was presented in America in the 60s. He weighed only 4 kilograms, was relatively tiny and ... terribly distorted the picture. By 1968, the Sony KV-1310 color TV entered the Japanese market. It was many times brighter than similar developments of other companies, for which the manufacturer was even awarded an award for a significant contribution to the development of television art and science.

In 1985, the company released the first large TV, the JumboTron. Its dimensions reached 4.8 × 7.6 meters. Compared to previous variations, he was a real giant.

Sony now specializes in the production of thin TVs for home use, industrial screens and miniature displays. Sony has an option for everyone!

OLED and UHD from Sony

Despite the fact that the brand's focus has recently been on smartphones and photographic equipment, their TVs meet the most modern requirements: both LED models and high-tech flagships with UHD resolution and ultra-thin OLED screens are on sale - the first OLED TV Sony appeared in 2017 and took the honorable first place in the Netflix rankings.

It is worth noting that the company does not have its own production of OLED screens; the Japanese buy blanks for further use in production from. This decision is quite justified - LG is the clear leader in the OLED world, and the build quality, design and powerful Sony processors have become a worthy cut for the best screens on the market today.

However, it would be unfair to accuse the Japanese of complete disregard for their own developments. The manufacturer supplies its UHD TVs not only with a high-quality matrix, but also with a powerful processor - for many brands, even the already outdated 4K HDR X remains unattainable in terms of performance.

There are also original findings in the production of LED displays for the lineup with 4K support. To compensate for the shortcomings of the diode array and get the deepest possible dark tones, the brand makes the Edge LED backlight multilayer (in 2 or 4 layers) and reduces the size of the diodes.

Before talking about new products, it would be wise to dwell on the mysterious Sony markings. Fortunately, it is much more laconic than that of the same LGs and undergoes changes less often - the current standard for Europe appeared back in 2016 and has not changed since then. In total, all information about the model is encrypted in 9 characters. Let's dwell on the main parameters.

Diagonal and device type

Typically, Sony TVs start with the following letters:

  • KDL - for Full HD or HD-ready models;
  • KD - for 4K Ultra HD TVs.

Most of the models of the current and last year belong to the second type, the brand updates the younger lines much less willingly.

Then two numbers are indicated - the size of the diagonal of the TV. Up-to-date the lineup starts at a relatively modest 31.5 inches for Full HD TVs, and 43 inches for ultra-high definition models.

TV class

This characteristic can be called a key one - if the series takes the leading role among competitors, then the level of a TV from Sony is judged mainly by the letter of the class. Even the brand itself often abbreviates the model name to 2-3 characters, the first of which indicates the class.

In 2020, there are 3 classes on the market:

  • Z, X (S) - premium TVs, X indicates flat screen, S is used for curved;
  • W - middle class devices, usually with Full HD resolution;
  • R - basic HD-ready models.

Since 2017, the letter A has been added to the existing designations - it is used to mark OLED TVs.

Year of release and series

In the updated marking, the calendar year of issue is indicated by one Latin letter:

  • H - 2020;
  • G - 2019;
  • F - 2018;
  • E - 2017;
  • D - 2016;
  • C - 2015.

The year is followed by the series number (4 to 9) and the model number in the series. It is these values, supplemented by the class letter, that we see in the abbreviated marking: for example, ZD9 says that we have before us the flagship 4K TV of the 9 series, released in 2016. Marking the same ZG9 directly hints at a very fresh flagship "product" of 2019, while AG9 says that we have a novelty in the budget segment.

The marking is completed by a design modification, usually encrypted with one digit, but this mark does not carry any important information for the consumer. It is also interesting that the type of TV tuner is not indicated in the marking - for this information you will have to refer to the characteristics.

From the photo above you can see that we have a TV with a diagonal of 65 inches. premium class- but already distant 2017 model year. However, for this case, age is not always a vice: now these flagships are sold cheaper, so that premium solutions and technologies are getting closer to the "people".

FullHD - the good old classic

Okay, maybe not that old. But today, FullHD TVs are no longer a surprise. What is worth knowing about an image of this quality?

  1. Image resolution 1920 × 1080 pixels.
  2. The aspect ratio of the picture is 16: 9.
  3. Image detail is noticeably more pleasing than in plainly good old HD. The video of such an extension will not allow you to see the wrinkles on the protagonist's skin in general plans, but the picture quality is sufficient to notice all the details of the images, to fully appreciate the work of the costume designers.
  4. The most common formats of Hollywood films on digital media and on the Web are FullHD or 4K.

Sony KDL-43WG665 - budget TV series FullHD with a screen diagonal of 43 inches, glossy anti-glare coating and IPS matrix. This model has Smart TV, Wi-Fi connection, browser and Miracast.

By the way, the name FullHD was coined by Sony in 2007 in connection with the development of a new product of this format.

4K at the peak of popularity

The most widespread expansion of TVs is now 4K - 3840x2160 pixels. This image format significantly wins against the FullHD background with its clarity and high levels of detail. Sony has several models of these TVs ranging from 43 to 85 inches. Among them, you can choose and conventional options for home use, and flagship versions with the best processor available today. The cost of the latter, of course, will be higher than average.

Top 3 Sony 4K TVs in 2020:

  1. Sony KD-43XG7005 - 43-inch screen with 178 ° horizontal and vertical viewing angle, high frame rate and 200 fps dynamic scene index. Such a TV perfectly conveys a live picture without any sticking or braking.
  2. Sony KD-55XG8596 - TV with a diagonal of 55 inches and support This TV can record a large amount of TV programs and store them in the built-in memory of the device. The model has four TV tuners: for cable, terrestrial and two for satellite TV.
  3. Sony KD-77AG9 - 77-inch screen with color and brightness enhancement options, image contrast automation. The model has a decent amount of internal (16 GB) and RAM (4 GB). There are three USB port, LAN, mini-Jack (3.5 mm).

8K super picture

8K is for now best extension an image that is available to a mere mortal. TVs of this format are more suitable for arranging a cafe, some kind of educational and entertainment center. 8K quality can only be appreciated on large screens. But buying such a colossus home, often, simply does not make sense: it takes up a lot of space, is heavy and very expensive.

Sony has prepared two custom models of these TVs:

  • Sony KD-85ZG9
  • Sony KD-98ZG9

They differ only in the diagonal. The first model is 85 ", the second is 98". Otherwise, their characteristics are similar: Smart TV, anti-glare glossy coating, 4500: 1 contrast ratio, automatic brightness and color improvement, six speakers with a total sound power of 80 W, four digital tuners for connecting television different types, the ability to record programs, control using gestures and voice. It is worth noting the rather large weight of this pair: the KD-85ZG9 weighs 74.5 kg with the stand, and the KD-98ZG9 weighs 102 kg.

What do we end up with?

Sony's TV lineup is not as wide as some other brands, but there are plenty to choose from. Among the options presented there are available options for comfortable daily viewing and expensive flagship gourmet displays in the world of cinema.

The advantages of Sony technology include: high build quality, long service life, a large set of optional functions. Among the shortcomings, one can single out the high cost of new 8K models and a relatively short period of warranty service (the manufacturer's warranty is 1 year, while other manufacturers provide about 3 years of factory service).

Best Sony 32-inch compact TVs

Do you live in a studio apartment? Or maybe you need a small TV for the kitchen? In this case, the best solution would be models with a 31.5-inch screen. Considering the purpose of the TV, you can stop at a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. From a distance of 1.5-2 meters, the user will still not be able to see the pixel grid on the screen, and the money saved is better invested in other useful functions. In terms of sound, both models below are equipped with a pair of 5W speakers and support Dolby Digital and DTS decoders. But satellite broadcasting does not support either of the two TVs, so consider this before buying.

1. Sony KDL-32WD603

Let's start with Sony's best 32-inch TV - the KDL-32WD603. This is a Smart TV model with CI + support and a light sensor, which is a nice bonus with a price tag of 20 thousand rubles. Which Sony TV to buy

The compact models are the perfect choice for kitchens, small spaces and small budgets. If you want to enjoy modern movies and / or games, then you should buy a large TV with UHD screen and HDR. The second category in the TOP 7 best Sony TVs represents a kind of golden mean, when at a reasonable cost you can get a fairly large screen and good features.

Sony makes the best TVs in the world. This is not an exaggeration, but a fact - it is this Japanese brand that owns the OLED technology, which guarantees accurate color reproduction and has the widest dynamic range. True, the price of Sony TVs with OLED matrices can go up to 250 thousand rubles. But that's a price to pay for quality, technology and brand - at the high price point, Sony is beating its closest competitor, Samsung with QLED technology.

In this review, we will cover all price categories and present the best TVs from Sony, which have collected positive customer reviews.

1st place - Sony KD-55XE9005 55-inch diagonal (95-97 thousand rubles)

First place goes to the 55-inch model with 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) resolution and HDR 10 support, which ensures that details are displayed in both dark and light areas of a scene at the same time.

This model uses a high-quality 120Hz VA matrix with a 95% DCI-P3 color gamut. It received Direct LED-backlighting, has a brightness of 900 cd / m2, and a contrast ratio of 4700: 1. The backlight here has switchable zones (35 pieces), which further increases the contrast. And although the matrix is not of the TOP level (not OLED), it shows a rich detailed picture.

The model received as many as 3 independent TV tuners, support for 24p True Cinema, built-in memory of 16 GB, a bunch of different interfaces and Smart TV based on Android. Inside installed powerful processor, so Smart TV works without brakes, as is often the case on cheap screens.

2nd place - KDL-40RE353 (25-27 thousand rubles)

Second place is a panel with a smaller screen and resolution. This model received the classic 40-inch diagonal and Full resolution HD. Hence and more low price compared to the previous one. This TV is a leader in a low price category, so it is appropriate to include it in this rating.

Specifications:

  1. VA matrix with LED backlight.
  2. One independent tuner.
  3. Two speakers with a total power of 10 watts.
  4. USB, HDMI, etc.

The panel is devoid of advanced technologies - it uses classic solutions in the form of a VA matrix and LED backlighting, but Sony has relied on picture quality, depriving the TV of the Smart TV function. This made it possible to create a relatively inexpensive solution.

  • Color fidelity - Watching movies at 1920 x 1080 is a pleasure.
  • Affordable price based on characteristics.
  • Convenience of management.
  • Thin frames.

There are drawbacks. In particular, there are user complaints about the uneven distribution of the backlight, which is imperceptible when watching a video. Also, you cannot run "heavy" content with 4K resolution on the TV - it slows down very much. And although there is no point in doing this, the very fact speaks of a weak "hardware".

The model in its price segment is one of the best, but if you wish, you can look for screens with similar characteristics and color reproduction from the competitor Samsung. But here we are talking about Sony panels.

3rd place - KDL-32WD603 (19-20 thousand rubles)

A budget model from Sony with a 32-inch screen and HD-resolution. Unlike previous models, it uses an IPS-matrix with more accurate and deep colors.

Specifications:

  1. Resolution: 720p HD.
  2. Viewing angles - 178 degrees.
  3. Sound: 2 speakers of 5 watts.
  4. Interfaces: USB, HDMI, Wi-Fi.
  5. Smart TV.
  6. One independent tuner.

Since the IPS-matrix is installed here, the color rendition is clearly at a high level. Moreover, the model is present in our review of 32-inch TVs (lies), where it takes 4th place. Users highlight a wide dynamic range - the ability to display detail in bright and dark areas of a scene. Other pluses: high quality sound, small dimensions and weight, remote control.

There are disadvantages:

  • There is no support for DVB-S and S2, which will not allow you to start broadcasting from the satellite.
  • USB 2.0 standard, although 3.0 is used almost everywhere.
  • The stand does not inspire confidence.
  • HD resolution, which at 32 inches diagonal gives a low pixel density. Separate points are noticeable near.
  • If the power goes out, then all settings are reset.

Despite the shortcomings, the TV in the Sony lineup is one of the best thanks to the classy IPS-matrix with accurate reproduction and lack of glare.

4th place - KD-49XE8096 (70,000 rubles)

An equally interesting offer is the KD-49XE8096 with a diagonal of 49 inches. This panel received an IPS matrix with a resolution of 4K (3840 × 2160) and support for the HDR 10 standard. Smart TV function is also available, which works quickly thanks to powerful hardware.

Specifications:

  1. Brightness: 400 cd / m2.
  2. Contrast: 1500: 1.
  3. Viewing angle: 178 degrees.
  4. Sound power: 2x10 W.
  5. Several independent TV tuners.
  6. A bunch of different interfaces.

Of all 49-inch 4K IPS TVs, this model is the best. It is unlikely that it will be possible to find an analogue for this money from the South Korean brands Samsung or LG, which could demonstrate such wide viewing angles and the transfer of "thin" shades without distortion.

The sound in the panel is acceptable, but not the best (for example, no bass). There are user complaints about the buggy built-in player, but this problem is solved by installing the MX Player application with Google service Play Market.

Disadvantages:

  • To operate the remote control, you need to aim accurately.
  • There are complaints about inaccurate 5.1 audio output.
  • Sparse reviews of random reboots (possibly a firmware problem).
  • Huge external power supply.

Taking into account the pros and cons, prices and customer reviews, we put the model in 4th place in the rating.

5th place - Sony KD-55A1 (230,000 rubles)

It received a 55-inch OLED matrix with 4K resolution, HDR10 support and Smart TV. The second feature is the powerful audio system, represented by five 10W speakers. Needless to say, the picture on the screen is distinguished by detail, accurate colors - the screen displays fine details in the dark and light parts of the scene, which indicates a wide dynamic range.

Read more about all the advantages of OLED technology. There is also an example of an image on a Sony A1E and Samsung Q7 TV with a QLED matrix:

Obviously, the sky at the top is blue, not the turquoise on the QLED matrix.

There is only one drawback - this is the price. Not everyone has access to panels for 230 thousand rubles, therefore, there are only a few reviews about this TV. Hence the 5th place in the ranking.
