    Cheapness; I don't remember anymore

simple convenient phone from its class for your money

The model is adequate for its price. Quick response of the sensor, the programs do not slow down, the network catches perfectly, the battery holds up well. No frills design - everything you need in a set. The pipe is not for 3D games, for a more serious person. Android is an indisputable advantage, I will not spread, everything is clear here.

Nice appearance, Build quality (no creaks, no backlash), Compact size, Nice-looking display.

A normal phone. Stylish design, music sounds loud. The price is excellent. Bought in 2012. For 9000. Wi-fi catches well. Fits in the hand. This is not a samsung galaxy s 4.

Reliable, has been working for 3 YEARS !!! Reliable case, fell many times on the asphalt, as a result I have several small scratches.

Stylish design, attractive price. Bright display. This is where the pros end.

It seems to me that the main advantage is the filling that you get for that kind of money! In terms of components, the phone is close to Galaxy Ace, but the price is very different;). Assembled soundly, without annoying backlash. The materials create a pleasant impression, the mechanical buttons work clearly ... The sensor is generally worthy of special praise - I have not seen such responsiveness in the budget price category. The screen is clear in almost all lighting conditions, pixelation is not as painful for the eyes as on 240x320 displays. The virtual keyboard is convenient even with men's fingers, it seems to know exactly where it wanted to press, even if it missed a bit :) The organizer, as in all devices on android, is very good and convenient. Slim and stylish design - here the Samsung, as always, is at its best. For those who want to get drunk

Sometimes buggy (rare), little internal memory

    Permanent screenshots by themselves;
    -at the beginning of a call for some time (~ 20 seconds) the voice is incorrectly encoded: only some iron sound is heard without parsing words;
-the phone very often the phone is switched on during a conversation. Yes, yes, it turns on: you talk and silence. you look at the screen, and the phone turns on!
    - the battery in the high activity mode keeps the charge from 100% until it is turned off for about 2.5 hours. In the morning I charged it, came to work, 1-1.5 hours of talking, and the phone turned off!

sometimes the sensor does not respond to pressing

The screen fades in the sun to the point that almost nothing is visible.
It takes a very long time to recover after a flight on an airplane (it takes a long time to find a roaming network - up to 20 minutes)

I can't say well about the battery. It discharges and really quickly. It's an android. It slows down awfully! Many games do not load! The camera is normal. The cover scratches quickly! The pattern on the cover is some kind of dots. They had all the dirt. it is white. It would be better to buy a black one))) You understand, it gets dirty quickly.

All the same, 180 MB of internal memory will not be enough, especially such applications as facebook, which eat up about 20 MB of memory, with a basic set of programs (which are written to the phone's memory and not to SD) often run out of memory, you have to clear the cache, so sometimes some programs cannot update, such as google maps, skype, etc. RAM also happens that there is not enough, it starts to dull, it is treated simply by resetting memory in the task dispatcher.

    1. Periodically loses the network. I still do not fully understand: the reason is in the device or possibly in the operator, although the old Samsung worked much more stable.
    2. Brakes ... I already suspect that I installed some unsuccessful application, which in the background consumes resources so much that sometimes the response reaches a few seconds after pressing a button, this is very infuriating.
    3. Sometimes it is impossible to write a message, you have to minimize the window, and then enter again.
    4. The battery would be a little more powerful.

It runs out VERY fast, it can last a maximum of a day, but that's what most phones have these days.
-Android platform - for someone it may be a plus, but for me a phone on such a platform turned out to be very difficult to master.
-Touch keyboard. Virtual keys are so small that it is almost impossible to write SMS on the go
-Sometimes the phone seems to live its own life: if you want to set an alarm, it goes into the notes, if you want to call, it opens an SMS message window. The back button is sometimes transformed into a screen capture function. Enrages!

Due to the fact that the case is quite thin - the protective touch "glass" (more precisely, plastic) is very close to the display, therefore, excessive pressing on it can irreparably damage the display itself (although over time you get used to the sensitive sensor and stop pressing hard :)). The battery could be stronger, 2 days with an average load and that's it (buying a reinforced one saves the situation). The video shoots 320x240, I really hope - they will fix this defect with the new firmware.

    1) The sensor is very sensitive. After a while, it starts to glitch and flip through the pages in the book or turn on applications (it was the sensor glitch that did not find any viruses)
    2) The kernel version is prehistoric, so you can not hope that you will have good games and the power that people admire when talking about Gio, you will not need.
    3) A small amount of built-in memory, only on which applications are installed. To install on a memory card, you need to get root rights, so if you need a game phone, then save money and buy a more powerful android device.
    4) Lags often, even if the one who says not to take cheap stuff is not clear from where I’ll say right away - I bought it in an elite salon in the city center, the one who says that this phone is super duper doesn’t know anything about it, or doesn’t

: In February of this year, Samsung showed off four new Android smartphones. These were the Samsung Galaxy mini S5570, Galaxy Fit S5670 and Galaxy Ace S5830 models. Reviews of these models have already been published on our website, and the final review of the Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 will be.

The Samsung Galaxy Ace is a real hit among mid-range googlephones and is a super attractive device for the money. The Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 is slightly lower in class than the Galaxy Ace S5830. There are not so many differences between them, but they allowed to reduce the price of the Galaxy Gio. It has a smaller screen diagonal (3.2 inches versus 3.5) and a slightly simpler camera (3 megapixels versus 5, while the autofocus remains here).

Here is the same Android 2.2, processor with a clock frequency of 800 MHz, the battery capacity remains unchanged - 1350 mAh. The model can be considered as a more affordable solution against the background of its older brother in the lineup.

Appearance

Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 turned out to be very modest. The other three models stand out somehow, trying to be reputed to be more or less original. The designers clearly did not intend to make this smartphone unusual. It is extremely simple (or, perhaps, laconic?). The body is completely made of plastic, only one color option is available. It's a black bezel combined with a dark gray back.

Such a smartphone looks unprepossessing, it feels like this device is one of the inexpensive models. But at the same time, the device is assembled efficiently and soundly, there is nothing to criticize here.

In numbers the case looks like this: 110.5x57x12.2 mm, weight 102 g. The phone is of usual dimensions, it is convenient to work with it.

The front of the smartphone is covered with a black plastic insert, under which the device screen is located. There is a high-gloss plastic edging on the side. It brings some variety to the design of the device.

On the upper part of the front panel there is an earpiece hidden under a thin insert.

There are three buttons under the screen. The central key is mechanical, it is edged with a thin chrome rim and, according to its functions, returns to the desktop. If you hold it down for a few seconds, recently launched applications will be displayed. On either side of it are a pair of touch buttons. The left key calls up the function menu, and the right key allows you to go back one step. The keys are backlit in white, but they only light up when the user touches the button.

There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top end in the right corner. A complete headset is not provided. This can hardly be called a drawback - usually such headphones are not of high quality.

At the bottom there is a microphone hole. You can also see a notch that helps to remove the back cover. There is also a universal microUSB port.

There is a very convenient volume rocker on the left side. It is pressed with little effort, but at the same time protects against accidental clicks. A little higher there was a place for a strap mount.

On the right side there is a medium-sized display lock key. She also turns off and on the device. In the middle there is a slot for microSD memory cards. It is covered by a flip-up cover that holds tightly in place.

The back panel is made of dense plastic. The material was chosen well, I like this matte plastic. No traces of use remain here. The back of the smartphone is covered with many small indentations. Due to this design, the device fits perfectly in the hand and does not slip.

In the upper left corner is the lens of the 3 megapixel camera. To the right, under a pair of slots, a ringing speaker is hidden.

The lid sits in its place very tightly, which is nice. The phone will not be annoying with squeaks or backlash. There is a battery under the removable part that blocks access to the SIM card.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Gio is equipped with a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive screen with a resolution of 320x480 pixels, displaying up to 16 million colors. Viewing angles are not the best, the image changes colors depending on the position of the phone.

The data is not very visible in the sun, the image fades, it is necessary to set the maximum brightness level in order to view the information on the phone screen. The reflections of the glossy surface of the front panel should also be noted.

The sensor works well, flawlessly, multi-touch is convenient and practical. The proximity sensor turns off the screen during a call when the phone is leaning against your face. There is no light sensor in this model. The brightness has to be adjusted manually, choosing convenient parameters.

Platform

Qualcomm MSM7227 processor with 800 MHz, Adreno 200 graphics accelerator. 256 MB of RAM and 160 MB of data storage are available. Support for microSD memory cards allows you to significantly expand the space for media content. I tried media from 8 to 32 GB inclusive, with all the device worked flawlessly.

Interface

The smartphone menu is a combination of Android 2.2 and the proprietary TouchWiz 3.0 shell. However, it should be noted that there are some changes here. For example, there is no convenient function of displaying missed calls and unread messages in the form of puzzles. Here is the standard Android way to unlock the screen.

For comfortable use of the phone, you can install widgets using both a standard set for Android and those that have been specially developed by Samsung. For widgets, 7 desktops are allocated, on which you can place additional functional elements at your discretion. If you wish, you can delete the unnecessary part of the interface at your own discretion. As a desktop design, you can apply a picture from the list of preinstalled ones or manually added to the phone gallery. The picture on the screen is also installed in the locked mode. It may differ from your desktop background.

If you go to the phone menu from the widget panel and exit it, the device will return back to the last widget. The following are available: clock (several types), locator, market, news and weather, program tracking, search, photo frame, power management, Yahoo finance, YouTube. As you can see, there are not so many of them, they are available on any device with the Google platform. You can add application shortcuts to the desktop, create folders and change the background picture, using both animated pictures on the desktop and installing static images from the gallery.

The application manager displays the 6 most recently used programs.

At the top of the screen there is a service line showing the time, battery charge, signal reception level indicator. Active connections and other data are also displayed there. By clicking on the line, you can find out in more detail what programs were downloaded, what messages and letters were received, or what files were received via Bluetooth. A separate line highlighted the inclusion of Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, silent or vibration alert mode - almost a complete analogue of the widget, except that there is not enough variable screen brightness.

When the phone screen is locked, it displays the date and time (in large symbols), as well as service information. To unlock, pull the lock icon to the right. Slide the bar to the left to turn on silent mode.

To enter the menu and launch any application, you need to click on the icon located at the bottom of the screen. There is a line of four icons that are constantly displayed on the display in any of the menu items. These are Phone (dialing and call log), Contacts, Messages and Applications.

The menu is presented in the form of 4x4 icons; an option in the form of a vertical list is also available. If desired, you can move the icons to other tables, thus arranging the applications to your liking. By adding and installing new programs, they are automatically placed on the screen. They are deleted directly from the menu, you just need to enter the editing mode. But you can only delete programs that have been added independently - those installed by the manufacturer are not subject to such an operation.

Phone book

The general list shows the stored contacts, both in the phone memory and in the SIM-card, as well as data from the Google account. You can choose among them by setting the ability to display subscribers only from the selected memory type.

By pressing the field reserved for the subscriber's picture, you can make a call, send him a message or e-mail, and also view information on him. There are many fields for it - these are various types of phone numbers, email addresses, means of quick communication (AIM, ICQ, Gtalk, Skype and others), residence addresses and so on (nickname, birthday, automatically added to the calendar, note) ... There is a quick call to 8 selected subscribers.

If an image is assigned to the subscriber, it will be displayed on the screen. To simplify the search, you can use the vertical line, which depicts the alphabet. Thus, by swiping your finger over it, letters pop up and you can quickly navigate. Of course, there is also a standard search function among contacts. The numbers can be assigned to different groups, which are assigned an individual signal.

From the phone book, you can quickly call or write an SMS to a person - you just need to swipe left (call) or right (message) on the line with the name of the subscriber. A similar function is applied in, on the Bada mobile platform. By clicking on the place reserved for the picture for the subscriber, a quick menu is called up, with the help of which a message, mail is sent, and a phone call is made to the selected person.

Call log

Directly from the phone book, you can access the call log - it is highlighted in a separate tab. The numbers are sorted by date. If desired, the amount of displayed data can be minimized, or vice versa, you can get the most complete informational list of events of the last days.

Having selected a subscriber, it is permissible to see what calls and how many times were made - such a collapsed list is much more convenient than a long string of dialed numbers of the same type. The number is dialed using the virtual keyboard. When entering numbers, the smartphone automatically displays on the screen the contacts saved in the device memory with similar numbers in the number.

Posts

For SMS and MMS, there is a shared folder where received messages go. When sending, adding various objects to the SMS, you can automatically convert it to MMS. The phone is able to display the last used numbers, thereby greatly simplifying the search for the addressee.

Messages are sent simultaneously to both multiple subscribers and a group. The device combines correspondence with subscribers into dialogues. The smartphone can automatically delete old SMS if there is no desire to store thousands of archives in the device. When typing, you can cut, copy and paste it. There is a set of funny emoticons - androids.

There are several ways to enter text. Mini-QWERTY layout is available in portrait orientation. If you turn the phone on its side, it will automatically change the image, adding a larger QWERTY layout. There is a familiar 3x4 option, similar to a conventional telephone keypad with T9 support. There is also the possibility of handwriting text input.

There is an original input function called Swype. Its essence lies in the fact that you just need to move your finger along the layout with signs - the device will independently generate words based on which characters were touched by the user's hand. For clarity, during such an input, a blue bar is displayed on the screen, which allows you not to get lost while typing. The function is very convenient, it independently places problems between words, selects words well, and most importantly, you can type text very quickly. If the word is short and a combination of several possible options is possible, the phone will display them, then you have to choose between them yourself. You can add new words to her vocabulary. Thus, you can be convinced of the excellent capabilities of the phone in terms of correspondence - everyone can choose the best dialing method for themselves.

Email

As in any other device based on Android OS, there is a separate application for Gmail mail, as well as another one that can work with other mail servers (including the above one). You can create multiple email accounts, each with a different color. This is convenient because you can view mail for each mailbox separately, or display messages from all accounts into one. And in it you can already see which of the boxes received the new message.

Copying and pasting text is supported. Possibilities of the mail client include scaling the image with the help of fingers - multitouch is simple and convenient. You can change the background of the design when viewing letters. The smartphone allows you to view files of known types attached to the letter (for example, images or office documents). When sending mail, there is a function of adding various files to attachments. For both messages and email, the font size is configurable. The user configures the check interval, sets the alert tone or vibrating alert.

Gallery

The gallery works both vertically and horizontally. Working with files is accompanied by nice animation effects. Working with files is surprisingly fast, thumbnails are quickly generated, scrolling through images is very fast and dynamic. Files are displayed in a 2x3 or 3x2 grid, depending on the position of the device. In the preview folders, the pictures are already smaller in size, due to which there are no longer 3, but 4 pictures vertically.

The image opens in full screen, scaling works with the help of multitouch. Files can be sent via email, Bluetooth, SMS, or posted on Picasa. You can assign images as desktop wallpaper or assign to a contact. Supports image rotation, cropping, as well as displaying additional information about a specific file.

Images are shown as folders (for example, received via Bluetooth, photo section), and sorted by date. This makes it very convenient to view photos - several sections are obtained in the same folder. You can scroll using the strip displayed at the bottom of the screen, or by simply touching the screen with your fingers anywhere.

Player

The player's interface is simple and straightforward. The general list displays all the songs in the smartphone's memory. There are also additional columns: Playlists (you can use both existing ones (Popular, Last listened, Last added), and create your own), Albums, Artists, Genres, Composers, Years.

While playing music, the cover written in the tags of the files is displayed on the screen, if there is none, there will be a multi-colored picture instead. The screen displays the name of the artist, the name of the album and the song being played. Tracks can be set to repeat (song, album, all tracks) or listen to in shuffle mode. For navigation, virtual keys are used (back and forth and pause), you can also switch between songs by flipping through the file cover image. While listening to the song you like, you can set it as a ringtone, contact or signal.

Numerous equalizer settings are available to the user. And the following settings are available: Auto, Normal, Pop, Rock, Jazz, Dance, Classic, Live sound, Other (your own created audio profile). You can select the audio effect: Normal, Wide Range, Concert Hall, Music Clarity, Bass Boost, Externalization.

This model does not have a function that would allow switching tracks in the locked state of the phone. Whereas other models with TouchWiz have a drop-down disk located at the top of the screen, the possibilities here are already more modest. There is only the ability to switch tracks using the keys at the top of the status bar. There is also an extremely simple widget for the desktop.

The sound of the player is typical for Android-based devices - even good headphones do not help, the phone is not able to compete with the player. The sound is not impressive, background noises are heard and, in general, the pleasure from listening to music does not arise. Although an undemanding buyer, the audio section will not discourage and give pleasant emotions.

Radio

The receiver supports RDS, can work in the background and turn off after a set time interval (30 minutes, 1 or 2 hours). The function of automatic search for radio stations is working. You can display 4 of your favorite radio stations on your desktop and quickly switch between them.

As with the player, there is a pop-up window at the top of the screen for quick navigation between stations. To end the radio broadcast, a separate stop button is provided.

Video

There is no separate video player in the smartphone, this is another difference from other models. The videos go to the gallery, where you can watch them. There is no support for DivX and XviD codecs in the Samsung Galaxy Gio. Therefore, everyone who needs to watch the video on the phone screen will have to install an additional application. Fortunately, there are plenty of them for Android. The player itself is extremely simple. The video is displayed almost in full screen, you can rewind videos. There are no other functions.

Camera

It uses a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera. There is no dedicated key to start shooting. It can only be activated from the menu.

The interface is simple and convenient: in the upper right part there is an icon where photos are saved (to the phone memory or to a card), and the number of photos for which there is enough space to save. Below - a large vertical key - this is the descent.

The following camera settings are available:

Shooting mode: Single shot, Smile detection, Continuous, Panorama.

Shooting conditions: Portrait, Landscape, Night, Sports, Party, Beach / Snow, Sunset, Dawn, Autumn colors, Fireworks, Text, Twilight, Backlight.

Exposition.

Focusing: Auto, Macro.

Timer: 2, 5, 10 seconds.

Resolution: 3.2 MP (2048x1536), 2 MP (1600x1200), 1.3 MP (1280x960), 0.3 MP (640x480).

White balance: Auto, Cloudy, Daylight, Incandescent, Fluorescent.

Effects: Normal, Negative, Black & White, Sepia.

Metering: Center-weighted, Spot, Matrix.

Quality: Best, Excellent, Normal.

The function of geotagging is supported, the shutter sound can be selected from one of the three available or completely turned off.

From the shooting mode, you can go to the gallery to the last captured photo.

Examples of snapshots can be seen below. The quality is usual for this kind of devices.

Applications

Calendar

The type of display is configured: events for a month, for a week, for a day, or only records are displayed. Weekdays are in white, Saturday and Sunday in blue and red. Those dates for which any events are assigned are additionally marked with blue dots. The current day of the week is clearly visible - the blue cursor is automatically hovering over it. The user also configures the calendar depending on the day of the beginning of the week, as well as choosing a convenient display format.

When a new record is created, a name is assigned to it, a period and a place are set. It is indicated with which of the calendars it will be synchronized, you can send invitations to contacts from the notebook. A snooze period is set (every day, weekly, monthly, yearly). A reminder will help you not to lose sight of the recording - the signal will be triggered in advance.

Watch

The screen displays time, date and weather forecast.

The smartphone allows you to store multiple alarms in memory. The repeat is set both for 1 time and for every day, only for working days or weekly. You can also set specific days. The alarm melody is set, you can add a vibration alert and a text file to it. The period of repeated signal triggering is set.

Decorated in the form of a wooden board with a sheet of paper attached, notes allow you to create notes.

YouTube is a standard application for most modern devices. Allows you to view videos, search among them. It works in full screen mode.

Weather forecast and news are useful every day.

The calculator works in both portrait and landscape orientation. There are additional features.

The dictaphone is simple and convenient, it saves records both in the phone memory and on a card. The recording time is set by the user. The maximum duration is 12 hours.

The smartphone has a built-in file manager. It supports sorting by time, file type, name and size. It allows you to move, copy and rename files.

Android Market is essential for every device of this class - there the user can evaluate thousands of applications and choose the necessary set of applications for himself. There is a convenient search function, as well as dividing programs into categories, which greatly simplifies browsing. You can look at the reviews, rate the rating and express your opinion about the software. Each application is provided with a short description and images for better clarity. Purchased applications are displayed in a separate list.

GPS navigation

Google Maps is used for navigation - the standard software for all "android-backgrounds". The only drawback is that the program requires constant network activity, which affects the amount of traffic consumed by the device. Traffic jams are displayed, thus, the application has become fully functional and convenient not only for pedestrians, but also for car owners.

There is a function of determining the current location, calculating the route from the start to the end point, and the method of movement is set: by car, on foot or by public transport. The route is laid on the map, while key places are indicated in the form of text messages, which are displayed on the screen in the form of a column, you can switch between them: view the route in advance or vice versa, go back and pave another path. Scaling works with multitouch or virtual buttons.

Browser

A convenient application is used for surfing the Internet. The navigation bar is displayed at the top of the screen, to the right of it there is a shortcut that allows you to bookmark the page. The phone remembers the most visited pages, there is a log of the pages viewed.

Multiple windows are supported, search for words on the page, text selection, as well as a practical function of changing the screen brightness directly from the browser. Thanks to multitouch, pages are easily scaled (virtual keys also work to change the size of the displayed one).

Font size changes, password saving works. The browser works quite fast. We can only note the lack of Flash support due to the hardware features of the device.

Connections

The phone operates in the frequencies 850/900/1800/1900/2100 MHz.

The device has Bluetooth 2.1 (with A2DP support, of course). Wi-Fi module with b / g / n support works fine. The microUSB connector, which has become a standard, allows data transfer via USB 2.0. DLNA support allows you to view photos and videos from compatible devices wirelessly. Also, the device can work as an access point.

Settings

As in all devices based on the Android OS, all the possibilities for the optimal configuration of your smartphone are collected here.

Battery

The phone has a 1350 mAh Li-Ion battery. According to official data, the phone should work up to 11 hours of talk time and up to 640 hours of standby time. The phone is charged for about 2.5 hours.

In terms of using various functions, on average, the phone worked for a day. The conditions are as follows: 2 hours of listening to music, constant synchronization with services (mail, twitter), 30-40 minutes of calls, the maximum screen brightness is set. If you do not use network connections so intensively, then the smartphone can work up to 2-3 days.

Conclusion

There are no complaints about the volume of the earpiece. On the street, the phone is heard well, in the room the rattling is sometimes noticeable. The vibration alert is average in power.

While the Samsung Galaxy Ace is similar, the Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 looks completely neutral. The design of the device is simple, but the creators cannot be accused of plagiarism either. Functionally, both smartphones almost completely repeat each other. Samsung Galaxy Gio costs about 9000 rubles, while Samsung Galaxy Ace is more expensive by about 1500-2000 rubles. The younger model has a slightly smaller screen diagonal, there is no Gorilla Glass protective coating. The camera module is a little simpler, and there is also no flash. The rest of the devices are the same and, in general, both Android backgrounds can be recommended for purchase. In that case, if you want to save money, the Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 will look more attractive.

The phone seems to be nothing. Recently in March, so as not to wake up the family (when the phone is turned on, a melody is played, which cannot be turned off). To not hear the sound of the phone, I turned on the tap with water, and accidentally, out of the habit of frequent washing of my hands, put the phone under the water. And I think what I did. It's good that there was a special protective film on the screen. I immediately wiped the phone off and went to school. The phone works. But lately, when you just put it to your ear, it buzzes. When you start calling someone- the buzz goes somewhere. Of course, I understand that I am a fool, but what should I do?
Thank you in advance:)

I have been working with this smartphone for several months, there are no special complaints, notifications go when the battery is charged, Nokia headphones go without troubles, Wi-Fi - OK, it goes fine, only one problem is when I send a file to my classmates via Bluetooth, then before reaching end of sending - in the notification line: "Sending via Bluetooth Successfully: 0 Failure: 1", when I poke there, I see that "The remote device does not respond", but the remote device was turned on and did not hang (tried to send from this smart to a friend who Samsung Star TV file - error for 50-60% of sending). And new phones (such) with Android 2.3.3. Experience with Android is present (tested on VM Android 1.6, 2.2, 2.3, 3.2, 4.0). However, a good smartphone, there are a lot of useful applications (which pleases), when you first connected to the network, it was updated (not Android, but the Market became Google Play by the Market). There is a program that downloads from the market to the computer. With it I download applications, and then I throw them off on the smart - it works uh ... And in the settings everything is color instead of black and white in versions M3-2.2. Music pumped up, installed Windows , in short, satisfied. Another would be the Wi-Fi zone of the house ... :) periodically update

By the way! I have 6-7 satellites in the open area. Just with a cold start, so to speak (first start), it takes time. I waited about 20 min. Then the process goes faster. And dear Moreman, not having reliable information, you should not mislead people. First check and make sure, and then write comments. If anyone has any questions, write to [email protected] We will help you in any way we can! :) The device really deserves its money! I am personally very pleased with the purchase, but when I saw what games this miracle draws, my joy knew no bounds!

"GPS never found any satellite." - this is because dear Mikhail, that manufacturers often hide information about the fact that A-GPS is not a GPS at all! If Google Maps does not work without network activity, this means that in the forest, in the sea, in the mountains where there are no GSM transmitters, this "navigation" does not work.
By the way, in this review, the dear Alexander Pobyvanets did not explain this, not unimportant moment!

The device is not bad. Received it as a gift in January 2012.
At first I thought Samsung, well, not very likely (before that I always used Nikia, I was always pleased with the reliability, the quality of the reception, the quality of the speaker and microphone, the absence of glitches).
However, after using it for about 2 months, I will say that in general, the device is not bad, I will describe specifically the pros and cons:

Pros:
1. Loud speaker (many people write that it is quiet, I will say that the ringer volume is higher than, for example, the iPhone 4S and about the same as the Nokia E71).
The sound quality is also quite decent and its volume when headphones are connected (I have good headphones, I bought them separately).
I often connect the phone to the radio in the car (through a standard 3.5 mm jack), the sound quality and ease of use are very pleasing (including the fact that, for example, if someone called while listening to music in the car, the phone automatically pauses playback and makes it possible to answer a call through a blues ace (this is for those who use a blues ace headset, who do not use it - they may well use this situation to use the car acoustics as a hands-free kit without any additional purchases and troubles). resumes).
2. Good "thinking" (Android 2.3), it still works faster than Nokia.
3. A high-quality screen (I did not check it in the direct bright sun, but during my use there was never a situation when the image was poorly readable).
+ very high-quality screen sensitivity, reacts clearly, just as clearly when typing SMS (for typing, by the way, there is a very convenient function with which you can type text by sliding your finger on the keyboard, it turns out incredibly quickly, there are a minimum of errors.
4. Not a bad camera (not aerobatics, of course, but in normal daylight - pretty decent).
5. The Wi-Fi module, like many others write - works great, connects quickly, a good signal level.
6. The build quality is very good, as many people write - nothing creaks, no backlash, 3 times fell on the concrete floor, did not crash, did not burst, strong)))

Minuses:
1. Naturally, like all users of these gadgets, over time, various glitches appear (I want to separately note that there are glitches in new devices that have just been bought in the store, and glitches are unrealistically hard, for example: spontaneous shutdown, reboot, spontaneous SMS sending on the phone's notebook, freezing during a call and in standby mode, and even cases of switching off and then not switching on ... at all, HOWEVER, I want to note separately that these glitches are present in the reviews and in the models of Sony-ericsson, HTC, LG, Nokia, etc. that is, practically from all manufacturers, and in a ratio of about 50 to 50 (!). What is the reason for this is a mystery, we can only hope for luck when buying phones, and any manufacturers (!)
Separately, I note that specifically in my case, ANY glitches during use did not appear (although quite a few applications were installed (some also write that the internal memory of the phone is not enough, for me personally it is enough for these applications to work).
2. As with all devices on Anrdoid, the battery life leaves much to be desired, less than a day of active use (this is naturally not a problem of this device or Samsung, this is a common Andriod problem), however, I easily solved this problem by purchasing an external 6600 mAh battery (www .neomarket.su / product_info.php? products_id = 471), enough for 5 full charges, i.e. about a week of active use of the phone.
3. Display glass (in fact, this is not glass, but a special plastic, therefore the possibility of scratches is much higher, although in my opinion it is not a problem, since I pasted a high-quality film and forgot about it, it is not even noticeable).
4. The lack of a flash in the camera (to whom it is not important for me, because I do not often use the camera, especially at night).
5. The reception level of the network signal is still rather weak (Nokia has a full scale, this device has two of 4 divisions).

Positioning

This spring, Samsung introduced three new relatively inexpensive models based on the Android operating system: Ace, Gio and Fit. The first two have a processor with a clock frequency of 800 MHz and a screen resolution of 320x480 pixels. However, the Ace has a 5 megapixel autofocus camera module and a large 3.5 ”display. Samsung Fit boasts the same camera as on the Ace, but its processor has a frequency of only 600 MHz, and the resolution is less than the minimum standard for "androids" - 240x320 pixels. The difference in price on the Gio and Fit is small, but in my opinion, the latter is more elegant.

In this review, we will consider a balanced "middling" - Samsung Gio.

Design, dimensions, controls

The phone has small dimensions (110x57x12 mm) and weight (102 g). The front side is made of translucent black plastic, the sides are light gray, the edging around the perimeter is glossy, the back cover is made of corrugated dark gray plastic. The shape of the case is streamlined, the materials from which the device is made are non-slip and pleasant to the touch, so the Galaxy Gio fits perfectly in the hand. And although the screen quickly becomes covered with fingerprints, in general, the surface is completely non-soiled.

The assembly of the device is ideal thanks to the large number of fasteners on the back cover: it does not play, does not creak, does not crunch when squeezed in the hand, and the central area does not squeeze.

The speech speaker and proximity sensor are located at the top of the bezel. The loudspeaker has an average volume, there is practically no headroom, but the interlocutor is heard clearly. There are two touch-sensitive keys under the screen: calling the context menu and "back". They are backlit with bright white LEDs. Between them is a large mechanical "home" button in the form of a rectangle with smooth edges. It is almost recessed into the body, its stroke is minimal, pressing is soft, there is a characteristic "click" sound.

On the left side there is a thin, flat and slightly elevated volume rocker key. Just above it is the strap hole. On the right side there is a microSD slot with a plastic flap and a small on / off button for the device. Above is a standard 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones or a headset, below is a microUSB connector and a microphone.

On the back there is a camera lens and two slots where the speaker is hidden.

Samsung Gio (left) and Samsung Star II:

Display

Unlike Galaxy Fit, which, oddly enough (considering the lower resolution), has a 3.3 "" display, the Gio has 3.2 "" (physical size 68x45 mm). The resolution is 320x480 pixels, the matrix type is TFT-LCD, displays 16.7 million shades of color, the sensor is made using capacitive technology, supports up to two simultaneous touches ("multi-touch"). The sensitivity is average, there were often blunders, that is, the screen did not react to light touches.

The viewing angles are large, the contrast drops slightly under slopes, but the colors are not distorted. The brightness is high, it can only be adjusted manually, since the phone does not have a light sensor. The proximity sensor is responsible for turning off the backlight during a call, it works correctly and turns off the backlight on time. The device also contains a three-axis accelerometer MBA220, a linear acceleration sensor and a rotation sensor.

The screen fades completely in the sun.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy S5660 uses a 1350 mAh lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. Model EB494358VU. The Galaxy Ace and Fit have exactly the same. The manufacturer claims that in standby mode the Galaxy Gio will "live" up to 610 hours (2G) and up to 460 hours of 3G network. Talk time - up to 10 hours (2G) and up to 6 hours on a 3G network.

If you use the phone for about 10 hours, the battery will be completely discharged provided: 20-30 minutes of talks a day, 3 hours of using Wi-Fi Internet (Twitter, mail, downloading applications and installing them), about three hours of mobile Internet, a couple of hours listening to music. Longer battery life can only be achieved by putting less strain on the smartphone.

It charges about two and a half hours from USB, about 1.5 hours from the mains.

Communication capabilities

The phone works in 2G (850/900/1800/1900) and 3G (900/2100) cellular networks. HSDPA speed - up to 7.2 Mbps. Bluetooth version 2.1 (with A2DP stereo profile) available for file and voice transmission. There were no problems with the connection of the headsets: it connects quickly, the speech is transmitted cleanly.

There is a wireless connection Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n. The device can be used as an access point (Wi-Fi Hotspot). There is a special item in the "settings". During the operation, the network did not "fall".

USB 2.0 is used for file transfer and data synchronization. When the Gio is connected to a PC, it is detected as a USB Flash device or USB tethering.

Memory and memory card

Gio has 280 MB of RAM, which is enough for most tasks. 160 MB of Flash memory is allocated for installing applications (about 120 MB free). If desired, all applications are transferred to microSD, a 2GB memory card is included in the package.

Camera

The Galaxy Ace and Fit have 5MP camera modules, while the Gio only has 3MP (3.15MP to be exact). There is autofocus, the speed of which does not boggle the imagination: it will take about 3 seconds for the camera to focus on the object. The maximum photo resolution is up to 2048x1536 pixels. I liked their quality: natural colors, clear picture and wide viewing angle. The only disappointment was the lack of a mechanical button on the side of the phone to activate the shutter.

Videos are recorded in 320x240 resolution at 15 frames per second. There is no point in talking about the quality of the video - it is unimportant.

The camera is launched through the menu using a shortcut. The interface looks like this: on the left - shooting mode (single shot, smile detection, continuous, panorama), scenes (landscape, night, sports, indoor, beach, sunset, etc.), brightness adjustment, settings. On the right is a gallery, switching from photo to video.

Photo settings:

  • Focus mode (autofocus, macro)
  • Timer
  • Resolution (320x240, 1280x960, 1600x1200, 2048x1536)
  • Metering (center-weighted, spot metering, matrix)
  • Quality (Normal, Excellent, Best)

Video mode interface: on the left - recording mode (normal, for MMS), brightness, settings; on the right - switching from video to photo, entering the gallery.

Video settings:

  • Timer
  • Resolution (176x144, 320x240)
  • White balance (auto, daylight, cloudy, incandescent)
  • Effects (no effects, negative, black and white, sepia)
  • Adjust (contrast, saturation, sharpness)

The photo album looks familiar. A 3D gallery is installed on almost all Android devices:

Full EXIF information can be obtained from the photo file:

Video characteristics:

  • Video codec: MPEG-4 Visual, 480 Kbps
  • Resolution: 320 x 240, 15 fps
  • Audio Codec: AAC at 62 Kbps
  • Channels: 1 channel, 48.0 kHz

Sample photos:

Performance

All three models (Ace, Gio and Fit) use the same Qulacomm MSM7227 chipset. However, the Ace and Gio processor overclocked from 600 to 800 MHz. However, its architecture (ARMv6) has not changed. Adreno 200 with OpenGL ES-CM 1.1 support is used as a 3D accelerator. That is, you can play simple games, for example, Angry Birds, but you shouldn't count on anything more.

The same chipset is used by ZTE Skate, HTC ChaCha, HTC Wilfire S and others. In terms of operating speed, the S5660 is not inferior to the aforementioned smartphones. During testing, there were no abnormal situations: reboots, freezes, OS glitches, slowdowns, etc. I would say that it works “smoothly”.

System information:

Navigation

The smartphone has a GPS navigator. Its functionality is the same as in most low-cost phones. "Cold" start - about 50 seconds, "hot" - up to 6-8 seconds.

Software platform

Gio runs on Android version 2.3.3. However, this is not critical for this segment of budget mobile phones, since 2.3.4 and 2.3.5 will not play any role.

Shell and menu

The familiar TouchWIZ 3.0 shell is present here. It makes no sense to describe it in detail. But in short: three desktops with widgets, a panel with a "dialer", "contacts", "messages" and an entrance to the "menu". To unlock the screen, press the "menu" button or the power button of the device and then slide your finger across the screen from left to right. On desktops, you can assign: shortcuts, folders, hotkeys and various widgets. Static and animated screensavers are used as wallpaper. When you hold down the mechanical home button for a long time, a menu appears with previously launched applications. There is also a task manager.

The menu is represented by 16 icons in a 3x4 grid on one screen. By clicking on the "menu" and choosing "change" in it, the shortcuts can be moved. Among other things, they can be installed in the lower panel (you cannot replace "home").

Challenges

A standard dialer for Samsung phones: large, convenient and functional. It is easy to get into contacts and call log from it. When dialing a number, a list of contacts starting with these digits appears in the input field window. To create a contact, you must click on the "plus" in the "contacts". The following information is available for each subscriber: avatar, first and last name, phone number, email address, Google Talk account, group, ringtone, mailing address, organization, note, nickname, website, birthday and anniversary.

Posts

Two kinds of keyboard are used for typing: "Samsung", which resembles the keyboard in iOS, and Swype. Both seemed to me not very convenient due to the small size of the screen. In this case, I am an adherent of the resistive type of sensor, since in this case it is possible, at least with a stylus, to accurately hit the buttons. The phone has an accelerometer, so when you turn the smartphone on its side, the keyboard takes a landscape view, and it is more convenient to enter text.

Applications

There is an Android Market for installing programs and games in the Galaxy Gio, and below is a list of those applications that are already loaded into the phone's memory:

Watch... The screen displays time, date and weather information. From this screen, you can switch to an album with photos, music and set an alarm.

The user receives something similar to a phone book, in which you can add not only a phone number, but also data from a social network (Facebook, Twitter, MySpace), e-mail or Internet messenger (ICQ, AOL).

Youtube... Client for viewing video from the site youtube.com.

Multimedia

Music player

From the main menu, you can organize your songs by artist, album, and song. When a song is playing, the cover of the album, the player control keys, and the button for viewing the list of songs are displayed on the screen. In the settings, you can set the sound to 5.1 or select an equalizer. For the latter, 11 presets are available: rock, jazz, classical, dance, pop, live sound, concert hall, wide range, music clarity, bass boost and externalization.

The volume of the polyphonic speaker is average. Reproduces cleanly, without overload. The sound quality in the headphones is not bad, but far from ideal: there is a lack of deep low frequencies (40-50 Hz).

FM radio

For it to work, you need to connect headphones, they act as an antenna. The sensitivity of the radio is low. Operating range 85 - 108 MHz, RDS supported. Large digits of the current frequency appear on the screen, at the bottom - four cells of frequently listened to radio stations. In the settings, you can set the radio auto-off timer: from 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Video player

A very simple player with support for H264 / H263 codecs and MP4 and 3GP formats. The maximum video resolution is 640x360 pixels with a bitrate of no more than 1200 Kbps in MP4 format. There are no settings, only rewind videos and "play" / "pause".

Web browser

Standard web browser. Does not support Flash 10.x by default as the core architecture is ARMv6. You can try to install Adobe Flash, which is optimized for such chips, but the surfing speed drops sharply, and even affects the stability negatively.

Conclusion

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Gio made a good impression: its ergonomic design, fast menu and application speeds, a decent camera, and a bright screen. True, he has plenty of competitors ...

The Galaxy Fit is also attractive to the buyer (you can close your eyes even to a 600 MHz processor), but the resolution is not enough for the 3.3-inch diagonal - the pixelation is visible. If this does not scare you, then this is a great option.

However, if I choose between Ace, Gio and Fit, then I would prefer the Ace, although it is more expensive (about 10,000 rubles).

By the way, in September the MTS 955 was released (the test of the device is on our website) - an interesting smartphone, considering that it has a large 3.5 "" display, a high-quality case, a beautiful and functional shell, loud speech and main speakers. His price is close to the price of "Gio" (about 7,000 rubles).

The LG Optimus P500 is still in demand. It costs 1,000-1,500 rubles cheaper than the S5660. In this case, you are only sacrificing the processor frequency. But, frankly, the difference in the operating speed will be imperceptible, and if you wish, it can be overclocked to the same 800 MHz.

So, Galaxy Gio justifies the status of "average": there are no obvious negative sides, but nothing outstanding either.
