How to make the screen resolution larger. How to change the screen resolution

The question of changing the resolution in Windows 7 or 8, as well as doing it in the game, although it belongs to the category "for the very beginners", but is asked quite often. In this instruction, we will touch not only directly on the steps required to change the screen resolution, but also some other things. See also: (+ video instruction).

In particular, I'll talk about why the required permission may not be in the list of available ones, for example, when Full screen HD 1920 by 1080 it is impossible to set the resolution higher than 800 × 600 or 1024 × 768, about why it is better to set the resolution on modern monitors that corresponds to the physical parameters of the matrix, and what to do if everything on the screen is too large or too small ...

Changing the screen resolution in Windows 7

To change the resolution in Windows 7, just click right click mouse on an empty place of the desktop and in the appeared context menu select the item "Screen resolution", where these parameters are configured.

Everything is simple, but some people have problems - blurry letters, everything is too small or large, there is no required resolution and similar ones. Let's analyze all of them, as well as possible solutions in order.

  1. On modern monitors (on any LCD - TFT, IPS and others) it is recommended to set the resolution corresponding to the physical resolution of the monitor. This information should be in the documentation for it or, if there are no documents, it can be found specifications your monitor on the Internet. If you set a lower or higher resolution, then there will be distortions - blur, "ladders" and others, which is not good for the eyes. Typically, when setting a resolution, "correct" is marked with the word "recommended."
  2. If the list of available resolutions does not contain the one you need, but only two or three options are available (640 × 480, 800 × 600, 1024 × 768) and at the same time everything is large on the screen, then most likely you have not installed the drivers for the computer video card. It is enough to download them from the official website of the manufacturer and install them on your computer. Read more about this in the article.
  3. If everything seems very small when setting the desired resolution, then do not try to change the size of fonts and elements by setting a lower resolution. Click the "Resize text and other elements" link and set the ones you want.

This is the most frequent problems that can be encountered during the specified actions.

How to change the screen resolution in Windows 8 and 8.1

For operating systems Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 can change the screen resolution in exactly the same way as described above. At the same time, I recommend following the same recommendations.

However, in the new OS, there is another way to change the screen resolution, which we will consider here.

  • Move the mouse pointer to any of the right corners of the screen to display the panel. On it, select "Settings", and then, at the bottom - "Change computer settings."
  • In the options window, select Computer and Devices, then Display.
  • Adjust the screen resolution and other display settings you want.

Changing the screen resolution in Windows 8

Perhaps it will be more convenient for someone, although personally I use the same method to change the resolution in Windows 8 as in Windows 7.

Using graphics card management utilities to change the resolution

In addition to the options described above, you can also change the resolution using different panels graphics control from NVidia (GeForce video cards), ATI (or AMD, Radeon video cards) or Intel.

For many users, when working in Windows in the notification area there is an icon for accessing the functions of the video card and in most cases, if you right-click on it, then you can quickly change the display parameters, including the screen resolution, simply by selecting the one you need in menu.

Changing the screen resolution in the game

Most full screen games install own permission which you can change. Depending on the game, these settings can be found in the items "Graphics", "Additional graphics options", "System" and others. Note that in some very old games the screen resolution cannot be changed. One more note: setting a higher resolution in the game can lead to the fact that it will "slow down", especially on not very powerful computers.

That's all I can tell you about changing the screen resolution in Windows. Hope the information is helpful.

Sometimes automatic setting system gives incorrect parameters of opening windows.

This happens not only in browsers or pictures, but also in games or even the operating system. .

How can I change the screen resolution without affecting the operation of applications? Let's figure it out.

What is it for?

After installing a game or a pirated version of the OS, the image size may not match the monitor size.

When we change the screen resolution, we sort of adjust the picture to the required size.

This must be done. Primarily for ease of use.

Also, the screen resolution affects the speed of downloading data.

By changing the resolution, the user changes the quality of the desktop icons and images.

Decreasing the quality may make your device run faster, but you might still see pixels.

Also, if the parameters are set incorrectly, the screen may be smaller or larger than the monitor.

Some monitors are taller in width than others, so they cannot be called suitable extension for all devices.

Advice. On computers, the resolution is most often 1920x1080 or 1280x1024, or 1024x768. On laptops, this is 1366x768 or 1280x720. The optimal width and height of the image are spelled out in the instructions or on the official website.

How to change the screen resolution in the game

When the resolution of the game does not match the monitor, it may not even launch. If you still manage to load the menu, it's almost done.

After starting, in no case should you start using the program if it does not fit the size of the monitor.

Figure 3 monitors with different diagonal sizes

To change the resolution within the game, we offer the user the following instructions:

  • Go to the settings menu.
  • If you are not familiar with the menu in advance, you will have to look for screen resolution settings.
  • Choose the required resolution and save.

Most often, the program shows how the game will look at a given resolution.

Important! If the parameters are incorrect, problems may occur the next time you start.

If the user does not know the screen resolution, you need to find it in the instructions or on the Internet.

After the specified settings, it is better to restart the game. Usually, the screen size changes immediately or the program restarts automatically, if this has not happened, then manually it will take only a couple of minutes.

Advice. If the game slows down, you can lower the resolution. This must be done a certain number of times. That is, at 3200x1800, it can be reduced to 2560x1440, while the ratio will remain the same 16: 9.

How to change the screen resolution without entering the game

There are no 100% identical instructions for all installers, but there is about the same method for changing.

First you need to find the folder where the settings files are located. Most often these files are named "Config" or "UserProfile". The title should be related to the installation of the game.

These files are located in the folder with the game itself, or in its installer. The format of the settings file is XML, so if you try to open it, a browser window pops up.

To avoid this, the file must be opened in text editor... By clicking right key mouse, go to "Open with", select "Notepad" from the proposed list.

A file with commands that are incomprehensible at first glance will open on the desktop. Don't worry. "Resolution" in English "Resolution". In order not to waste time, in the "text search" copy this word. You will instantly go to the part of the program where it is written and highlighted in blue.

Perhaps there will be several results. Most likely it will be "Resolution" and something else or just a word.

Upon successful completion of the search, we proceed to the very change of the resolution.

Next to "Resolution" are the width and length of the intended screen. We change to the data of our monitor or less. If the screen is 1366x768, enter it or a multiple of it. After saving the file, the game will run at the user-selected resolution and leave these settings at their default settings.

Some games have a dedicated settings launcher. Game name and Launcher. Having opened it, the user goes into the settings without going into the game itself. After saving, they also go into the game and remain until the next change.

How to change the screen resolution of your monitor

Resolution affects the clarity of objects on the screen, icons, images. It also affects their size.

1 On an empty space on the desktop, right-click.

2 Go to the "Properties" function.

3 A window will open in which you need to select "Options".

4 In this part of the settings is the "screen resolution".

5 The slider (lower left corner) will help you choose a higher or lower screen resolution. The data will be displayed below the slider. You can also set the required scale yourself.

6 When finished, click OK to save your changes.

Before saving, the version of the screen will be shown, that is, how it will look on the monitor after saving. If the option does not suit you, it is enough to cancel the save.

You may not be able to find the optimal resolution right away, but after a few attempts you will still be able to. To speed up your search, it is best to search the internet for possible screen sizes.

How to change the screen resolution on Windows 10

Windows 10 is still poorly understood by many users.

Detailed instructions for changing the screen extension:

1 On an empty spot on the desktop, right-click.

2 In the menu that appears, select "Display Settings".

3 Below the inscription "System" in the settings menu is the menu "Display".

4 Scrolling down the page to the bottom you will find "Advanced screen options".

On Windows XP
Click the "Start" button, select "Control Panel" and find "Display" if you have a classic panel view. Or "Appearances and Themes" - "Screen" if you have a category view configured. In the "Options" tab, find the "Screen Resolution" slider and select the view that suits you. Click the Apply button to apply the changes. The countdown timer window will flash on the screen. If you do not like what you see, click "no" and look for a new option. If everything suits you, click "yes".

Change screen resolution in Windows Vista
Start over from the Start button and Control Panel click the Appearance and Personalization button, click the Personalize button, and then select Display Customization. Move the slider until you are satisfied with the result.
Click the Apply button at the bottom of the menu for the changes to take effect. The timer will flash again on the screen. If you are happy with what you see, click the "OK" button.

Resizing the screen on CRT monitors
Due to system crashes, it happens that you see a screen surrounded by black bars on the right and left. If you have a CRT monitor, you can easily fix it using the buttons on its panel. Just press the "Menu" key, enter the parameters and use the buttons on the monitor panel to select the option you need.

To play videos on most mobile devices, you need to zoom out the size images to more weak processor phone or player was able to correctly process and run the file. There are special video editing programs for resizing videos.

Instructions

One of the most common video editing utilities is VirtualDub due to its small size and wide functionality. Download the VirtualDub archive from the official website of the program and unpack it using an archiving program (WinRAR or WinZIP).

Go to the extracted folder and run virtualdub.exe. In the window that opens, select the File - Open video menu. Specify the path to the video file you want to shrink. Wait until it finishes opening and displaying in the player window.

Go to the Video - Filters tab at the top of the window. In the menu that appears, click the Add button. From the list of available filters, click resize and then Ok.

In the Filter resize menu, specify the new width and height parameters for the video image. If you want to play the file on your device, please adjust these settings according to the display resolution. For example, if the screen has a resolution of 176x220, then the value for width is 176, and for height - 220. You can find out the width and height of the display in the specification for your device, in the instructions for use and on the Internet by entering the model name in the search.

After completing all the settings, click Ok. Go to the File - Save tab to save the applied parameters. The image is resized.

There are many other converters available to reduce video. For example, the Format Factory app. The program has many presets for different screens, has the ability to save the modified video in various formats, including mp4 and 3gp, which are most common in mobile devices... Changing the file format allows you to reduce its size, which is important for phones and players with a small amount of memory.

Good day!

I will describe a fairly common situation on which I often receive questions. So...

On an ordinary "average" laptop by modern standards, with an IntelHD video card (possibly plus some other discrete Nvidia), Windows 7 is installed. After the system is installed and the desktop appears for the first time, the user notices that the screen has become then small, compared to what it was (note: i.e. the screen has a low resolution). In the screen properties - the resolution is set to 800x600 (as a rule) and the other cannot be set. And what to do in this case?

In this article I will give a solution to a similar problem (so that there is nothing tricky here :)).

SOLUTION

This problem most often occurs with Windows 7 (or XP). The fact is that their bundle does not include (or rather, there are much less of them) built-in universal video drivers(which, by the way, are in Windows 8, 10 - that is why, when installing these OS, there are significantly fewer problems with video drivers). Moreover, this applies to drivers for other components, not only video cards.

To see which drivers have problems, I recommend opening device Manager... The easiest way to do this is using Windows Control Panel(just in case - the screen below shows how to open it in Windows 7).

In the control panel, open the address: Control Panel \ System and Security \ System ... On the left in the menu there is a link to the device manager - open it (screen below)!

How to open "Device Manager" - Windows 7

Next, pay attention to the "Video adapters" tab: if it contains "", this confirms that you do not have drivers in the system (because of this, the resolution is low and nothing fits on the screen :)).

Important! Please note that the icon indicates that there is no driver for the device at all - and it does not work! For example, the screenshot above shows that, for example, there is no driver even for an Ethernet controller (i.e. for a network card). This means that the driver for the video card will not be downloaded. there is no network driver, but network driver do not download, tk. no network ... In general, that is still a node!

By the way, the screenshot below shows what the "Video adapters" tab looks like if the driver is installed (the name of the video card will be visible - Intel HD Graphics Family).

The easiest way to solve this problem - this is to get the disk from the driver that came with your PC (however, such disks do not give to laptops :)). And with the help of it - everything can be quickly restored. Below I will consider the option of what can be done and how to restore everything even in cases when it does not work for you. Network Card and there is no internet to download even a network driver.

1) How to restore the network.

It will not be possible to do without the help of a friend (neighbor). As a last resort, you can use a regular phone (if you have the Internet on it).

Solution essence in what is special program 3DP Net(the size of which is about 30 MB), which contains universal drivers for almost all types network adapters... Those. roughly speaking, after downloading this program, installing it, it will select the driver and your network card will work. You can download everything else from your PC.

How to share the Internet from your phone:

2) Auto-Installing Drivers - Helpful / Harmful?

If you have Internet working on your PC, then good decision may become auto-installation of drivers. In my practice, I, of course, met, as with correct work such utilities, and with the fact that sometimes they updated the drivers in such a way that it would be better not to do anything at all ...

But in the overwhelming majority of cases, the driver update goes through, nevertheless, correctly and everything works. And there are a number of advantages from using them:

  1. save a lot of time to identify and search for drivers for specific equipment;
  2. can automatically find and update drivers to the latest version;
  3. in case of an unsuccessful update, such a utility can roll back the system to the old driver.

In general, for those looking to save time, I recommend the following:

  1. Create a restore point manually - see this article for how to do it:
  2. Install one of the driver managers, I recommend these:.
  3. Perform, using one of the programs above, search and update "firewood" on your PC!
  4. In case of force majeure - just roll back the system using a restore point (see point-1 just above).

Driver Booster is one of the driver update programs. Everything is done with a single click of the mouse! The program is given in the link above.

3) We decide on the model of the video card.

If you decide to act manually, then before downloading and installing video drivers, you need to decide what kind of video card you have installed in your PC (laptop). The easiest way to do this is to use special utilities... One of the best, in my humble opinion (besides free) is (screenshot below).

Determining the video card model - HWinfo

By the way, if you have a laptop - then the video drivers for it can be found on the laptop manufacturer's website. To do this, you need to know the exact model of the device. You can find out about this in the article on determining the laptop model:

3) Official sites

Here, as it were, there is nothing to comment on. Knowing your OS (for example, Windows 7, 8, 10), video card model or laptop model - all you need to do is go to the manufacturer's website and download the required video driver (by the way, not always the newest driver is the best. Sometimes it is better to install an older one - because it is more stable. But here it is rather difficult to guess, just in case I recommend you download a couple of driver versions and try it experimentally ...) .

After connecting the LCD monitor, you need to adjust screen resolution and . And if the required resolution is often determined automatically and it remains only to agree with the choice of the system, then when the text is enlarged, some troubles appear. But first things first.

For settings screen resolutions in Windows 7 Right-click the mouse on the desktop to open the menu and select the Screen resolution item in it:

That's all, we figured out the permission. Of course, there are times when the system cannot recognize the monitor, but as a rule, they are all solved by reinstalling or updating the video card and monitor drivers. Let's move on to enlarging the text on the screen in windows 7... Is it worth increasing it at all? If you have a monitor with a diagonal of more than 20 inches, then definitely - yes. See two screenshots for comparison. Text size 100% (default):

And with increased up to 200% (this increases all screen elements except for desktop gadgets):

Without enlarging the text, working at a large monitor is very annoying. How much to increase it choose yourself, for this in the same window where you chose the resolution, click on the following item:

In the window that opens, we make our choice of the degree of increase from the proposed options 100%, 125% or 150%, if this is not enough (which is unlikely), then you can select your percentage of increase by clicking Different font size and in the window that opens, make your settings. When choosing a value of 150% or more, be sure to check the box Use Windows XP style scales:

Without this checkbox, the text about many applications will be blurry, for example, the screenshots below.

Without daw:

With the checkbox installed:

When increasing, do not forget that not all programs support it. The screenshot below shows a comparison of windows:

Agree that at 125% magnification this window looks a little clumsy :-), but at least all the buttons are present here. There were cases when the OK button was missing in the program installation window, because the program supported half-scaling - the text and window elements were enlarged, but the window itself did not. As a result, the OK button turned out to be outside the window and there was no way to click on it, because scrollbars were missing. I remember racking my brains over this for a long time until I figured out how to remove the magnification :-).

It is not worth increasing more than 200%, because with such an increase, the windows become larger than the screen size, which is not very convenient - you have to use both vertical and horizontal scrolling.

I think information about how adjust screen resolution and will be useful to those who use an LCD TV instead of a monitor. That's all. Thank you for the attention.
