Appearance

The cardboard is quite thick, so the speaker is unlikely to be damaged along the way.

The instruction is also in Chinese. It's a pity that there is no duplicate in English.

The column is made in the shape of a rectangle. The front part is covered with perforated plastic, under which there are two active speakers and one passive radiator.

Above is a microphone that serves for conversations in headset mode. The interlocutor hears clearly, but there is a "barrel" effect.

After syncing with the device, the speaker is identified as XMFHZ02. I connected the speaker to a computer and a smartphone, there were no problems with playback. After 10 minutes of inactivity, the column turns off.

When the charge level is low, it starts beeping every minute! I do not like speakers with this type of discharge, it is very annoying.

Sound, what can you say about it? There is bass, the speaker jumps, but there is no volume. The vocals sound very distinct and clear, it is pleasant to the ear. It is quite suitable for listening to music at home, hardly on the street.

Xiaomi Square Box Bluetooth Speaker is classic version, without any additional "buns". But Mi Bluetooth Speaker can be used as a speakerphone. True, the latter was glued "to change" and it is impossible to talk normally - the voice of the interlocutor is poorly discernible, and yours is transmitted with a lot of noise. Thanks to the memory card slot, you can listen to music directly from the microSD. On Mi Bluetooth Speaker, all notifications, whether they are power-ups or battery level states, are sounded in Chinese, and the name of the speaker in the list is in the paired ones. Ergonomics, scope of use

Due to its minimal size, weight and oblong shape, the speaker can be carried even in a pants pocket. No one will have any problems with transportation. Models are suitable for hikes, picnics, beaches and other similar events. To be honest, a home mini-system is made of speakers. It's a pity, there is no possibility of combining two speakers, as it is implemented in products from JBL and Ultimate Ears.

Each of the columns works out its money, but since they are in different price ranges, the requirements for them are different.

The Xiaomi Square Box Bluetooth Speaker strives hard to deliver clear sound at minimum volume, with pleasant, but not dominant, bass. When the volume is increased, the signal is distorted, there is a noticeable "sand" and crackling. The maximum decibel level is quite high - it would be better to play quieter, but cleaner.

With Mi Bluetooth Speaker, the difference is noticeable the first time you listen. No cracking and "sand" at high volume, pleasant and elastic bass, sufficient detail, as for such a baby. In general, it is quite good - this is really one of the most "playing" speakers for this kind of money.

Autonomy

Both small boomboxes have a built-in battery: the younger one - 1200 mAh, the older one - 1500 mAh. Autonomy is approximately the same and is about 10 hours when listening to music via Bluetooth at medium volume. The charging time for the speakers is also almost the same - about 2-2.5 hours when using network adapter in 2 A.

Cost, competitors

Xiaomi Square Box Bluetooth Speaker has practically no competitors in its price range (we do not consider faceless China), there is only a good one JBL GO- it is more functional (it has a mini-jack 3.5 mm, a microphone, and a charging cable included), but it holds almost half the charge and has one speaker. In terms of sound quality, the creation from JBL is higher by several divisions.

First of all, their gadgets are stylish, minimalist designs using quality materials. But one of the deciding factors is the price, traditionally low for Xiaomi products.

This also applies to our hero, who was announced relatively recently. Now the official price of the Xiaomi Mi Portable Bluetooth Speaker is $ 9.

Since in official store none of us will be able to buy anything, it is worth looking towards third-party online platforms. So, the column came to me from here. In this store, they ask for $ 13.68 for it, which in translation into Russian money is now about 900 rubles. Penny? Not that word! Especially considering the quality and capabilities of this crumb.

The packaging for the device is very small: 70.7 x 70.7 x 28 mm. At first, I did not even believe that they sent me exactly what I ordered. I thought they had cheated.

By the way, communication breaks practically do not happen. My Mi Portable Bluetooth Speaker disconnected from my smartphone on its own only a couple of times. I do not know why. In addition, for normal signal transmission, it is better not to put any obstacles in its path. The speaker will not play anything through the wall. From a distance of more than 4-5 meters too. By the way, 5 meters is the maximum working distance declared by the manufacturer itself. You see, they didn't lie.

There is also a built-in microphone. Where it is located, I still do not understand. There is a LED next to the Micro USB port (flashing red or blue), on the side there is a loop for attaching a strap. Most likely, the microphone was hidden under a metal mesh, somewhere near the speaker.

Since there is a microphone, then the gadget can be used as wireless headset... Everything is just like that. Moreover, at the other end of the tube, the interlocutor can perfectly hear your speech, if you hold the speaker even at an outstretched hand. It is worth moving away a meter or further and it is no longer so good to hear. Expected, quite good result.

Call management is very simple. When a call arrives on the smartphone, press the back button once - the call is accepted. Pressed again - hang up. Long press - rejects the call. Everything is simple and straightforward.

The only inconvenience is as follows. You listen, for example, to music from a smartphone through a speaker. At this point, a call comes in. I would like to talk through the microphone of the phone. And at this moment, you will not be able to turn off Mi Speaker. LeEco, for example, does not allow you to go to the Bluetooth settings. I have to talk on speakerphone through the column.

The top side is very similar to a shower strainer. I think if the column ever breaks, it can be disassembled and used as a watering can for a yogurt bottle. You can water the flowers, for example, or bathe the hamster. Such is the free useful advice.

Let's move on to the main function of the gadget. The sound quality is pretty good. The volume is medium enough to fill a medium sized room. At the same time, communication is likely to be uncomfortable. Setting the volume to one third is another matter.

The speaker is surprisingly loud. At maximum volume, wheezing, whistling and other "joys" come out. Better to set the sound to 80-90%. The music will still play loudly, but the extraneous noises will go away.

If you put the speaker on some hollow wooden surface, then it will begin to transmit low-frequency vibrations to the piece of wood. However, I still can't call it bass. They are only indicated here, but in fact they are not. Don't forget about speaker size and cost.

In general, one should not expect impressive sound quality from an acoustics of such a tiny size. The speaker will perfectly come to the court where it is absolutely impossible to listen to music through something more or less serious. Audiophiles, I would advise to pass by. May their ears not be defiled.

Personally, I love high-quality sound, but still I consider myself more of a commoner. And I am completely satisfied with the sound quality. But even more I like the dimensions of the speaker. It is really very small, weighs practically nothing and you can always take it with you. Neither in a bag, much less in a backpack, it will not drag.

And besides, on the side circumference there is a small loop where you can thread a lace and conveniently fix the acoustics on jeans, on a bicycle, or anywhere else.

Time autonomous work differs greatly from the set volume. For example, at the maximum, the column lasted 2 hours and 17 minutes. After that, endless disconnections began to occur, which means it's time to charge. By the way, this can be done both from a computer and from a conventional charger with an output of 1 amp. In the latter case, the gadget charges up to 100 percent in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

If you set the volume to an average value (50-60%), then in order to plant the built-in battery (300 mAh, by the way) you will have to try. In this position, the gadget played for me for 12 hours and 20 minutes. It is clear that such autonomy is above the roof.
