How to enable fingerprint on xiaomi mi5. Xiaomi Mi5 review - flagship specs for everyone. If the fingerprint scanner is not working

Sometimes there is a problem in which the fingerprint does not work on smartphones Xiaomi Redmi 4X and other models. This could be due to a technical or software problem. Each of these reasons includes several aspects. In this article you can find answers to all questions related to the inoperability of the fingerprint scanner.

The fingerprint scanner works in a simple way. A special sensor detects patterns on the pads of the fingers. These lines are unique to each person. Photocells, after the finger is applied close to the scanner platform, photograph those areas of the pattern on the fingertip that do not touch the platform. That is, the scanner does not read the lines that protrude above the skin, but those that are located between them.

Some of the fastest scanners are installed in Xiaomi. Unfortunately, they are far from the most effective. They may not be able to identify the print if the wearer's hands are wet, sweaty or dirty. If there is even a minimal amount of greasy stains on your hands, the scanner will refuse to carry out identification.

Therefore, if the sensor refuses to read the pattern, it must be wiped clean and hand hygienic. If it works, then everything is in order. If not, then the reason is either hardware or software.

Solving Scanner Problems

Sometimes the scanner does not work due to incorrect photographing of the print. In other words, the pattern was not recorded at different angles (for clearer finger recognition), or it was interrupted, and the print was not fully recorded.

To overwrite the entered data, you need:

Important: you need to apply pillows at different angles so that in the future you can put your finger as you like, and the smartphone will still accurately identify it and allow access.

Overwriting your fingerprints will help you understand why the fingerprint scanner is not working. However, the reason may lie elsewhere. Often, after a software update, the smartphone's sensor starts to fail. Here you can fix the situation by resetting the settings to the factory settings. For this you need:

Attention: all data from the smartphone will be deleted! They must first be copied to other devices. The SD card must be removed before the procedure!

Another way is a simple operation to completely discharge the smartphone. It needs to be completely discharged to 0% for it to shut down. In this case, it is advisable to leave it in this state for 12 hours. After that, you will need to plug the device into an outlet and charge it up to 100% excluding! When it is charged, you need to turn on the phone without taking it out of the charger. Across certain time(or immediately) the smartphone will offer to use the scanner for identification. This way, the crash won't happen again.

What to do if a fingerprint is not added

There are situations when the scanner works, but the fingerprint cannot be finished again. Resetting by adding new data fails. So, when trying to create a new pattern, many Xiaomi owners receive an error "try again", or "could not add a fingerprint."

You can try to fix this situation as follows:

The above method may help, but not always. If the fingerprint scanner refuses to add a pattern, then you should go to drastic measures - reset the settings to the factory settings.

Solving problems with fingerprint removal

Among the frequently asked questions is: I can not delete the fingerprint, what should I do? The answer to this question is the following - you need to change the language of the system. For this you need:

After that, you will need to carry out the procedure for removing prints. After a successful operation, the language settings can be switched back to "Russian".

If the solution does not work, then you will have to perform a factory reset. In the case when the fingerprint scanner gives out some kind of malfunction, you can reflash the phone, which is much more difficult to do. This method not recommended for use by those people who do not have at least basic knowledge of reinstallation operating system in phone. Otherwise, you can simply ruin your smartphone.

Conclusion

It is worth saying that Xiaomi smartphones rarely give such bugs. If they do occur, the company quickly eliminates them. In the event that the scanner has stopped working, then you should not immediately reset the settings. This will lead to the loss of all data (unless previously copied to other devices or storage media). You just have to wait for the MIUI shell bugs to be fixed. Typically, revised versions become available again for update no later than a week later. Therefore, it makes sense to wait for the release of the patched OS in order to reinstall it.

To date, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has already released several smartphones with a built-in security reader for fingerprint verification. The biggest problem for users of these devices is how to set up a fingerprint on Xiaomi, since difficulties arise at all stages: from data registration to sensor operation.

Algorithm for recording and controlling fingerprints

Let's consider how the built-in fingerprint scanner is configured, and Xiaomi will serve as an example. Redmi note 3 Pro. We will assume that you have bought a phone with global firmware, which means with high-quality Russian localization.

On a clean device (out of the box), the scans are added as follows:

If desired, you can delete the failed picture (if it does not work). Again, it is worth opening the menu through which the data was added. Then you should click on the desired name: according to the standard "imprint 1, 2, 3, ...". The window that opens will contain a window where you can change the name of a specific finger scan, and below there will be a “Delete” button.

Possible problems

When buying Xiaomi Redmi 3s, finding out how to set up a fingerprint is not enough, since there are a number of flaws. There are two main options: the scanner function is buggy, or it doesn't work at all.

First of all, you can check guesses about incorrectness in the following ways:

  • lock and unlock the screen with an alternative code / password / key;
  • restart the device;
  • overwrite scans (if the device vibrates at any touch, indicating an unfamiliar fingerprint);
  • in extreme cases, you can reset or flash your smartphone, but the instructions for this procedure require a separate review.

If the problem persists and the scanner does not work due to its technical inoperability, then only the service center staff will provide assistance.

Nuances of work

As the practice of working on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro has shown, the fingerprint scanner may periodically malfunction for a number of reasons:

  • the finger is smeared, wet or damaged;
  • there is dust, hard particles, or other objects on the surface of the scanner partially or completely blocking the contact of your finger with the device.

Sometimes it is not possible to delete the recorded data if you do not change the language to English beforehand. Only after changing the language is it possible to clear the records by disabling the lock and, after returning to Russian, record new prints.

Finally, some users are afraid to take fingerprints because they are not sufficiently aware of where exactly such an important part of their biometric data is stored. It is worth assuring everyone that the information about the "fingers" of the owner of the smartphone is contained on the processor chip and nowhere else. Therefore, you can not be afraid that when synchronizing with cloud storage and when the Internet is connected, such important data will get to strangers.

Outcome

The described sensor is an interesting and useful innovation. By integrating such functionality, any manufacturer makes the operation of their devices more simplified, and also increases the reliability of protecting the user's personal data.

You are probably aware that the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has released many modifications of smartphones that use a fingerprint scanner to unlock the device or confirm actions.

Most often, inconveniences for new owners appear immediately in the process of initial activation with a fingerprint sensor, when establishing registration information. Therefore, further we will analyze how to configure the reading element in the most correct way on the Mi5 model.

Scanner setup

The procedure for setting this option will be described in stages using the example of Xiaomi Mi5 with a Russian-language interface design. The instruction is most relevant for users who will perform the procedure for the first time:

  • Go to your phone settings and select the "Lock screen and fingerprint" section. Then click on the topmost label;
  • On the page that opens, select the type of password that will be used to unlock the smartphone if the fingerprint scanner is unavailable or cannot be used, for example, a pattern, password or PIN;
  • When finished, add a finger scan. Follow the sequence of actions described on the screen - touch the special area several times. Moreover, in the opinion of the site, it is much more efficient to slightly change the angle when re-reading, so that the device remembers the largest number of possible versions;
  • At the end of the process, the settings page automatically closes and is transferred to the passed item, which allows you to enter a different fingerprint, which is completely optional;
  • In the event that the sensor does not function correctly or the owner wants to sell the smartphone, the fingerprint used can be erased. To do this, return to the same section as during the initial operation, and then mark the number of the picture that you want to delete.

If the fingerprint scanner is not working

If the option reacts inconsistently, or the fingerprint sensor does not work at all, you need to perform a number of manipulations to make sure or disprove assumptions about technical failures:

  1. Turn off and on the device with subsequent unlocking using an additional password;
  2. Restart your smartphone;
  3. Erase and then re-enter the image of the print, while washing and drying your hands;
  4. In emergencies, you can reinstall software, which requires its own leadership.

If none of the available methods have been successful, then it is most likely that the root cause of the problem lies in the hardware of the smartphone and requires service.

Some features of work

In practice, working with smartphone Xiaomi Mi5 has identified some reasons why the fingerprint scanner may not work correctly:

  • The presence of scratches, moisture or dirt on the surface of the finger;
  • The presence of interference on the sensor in the form of dust, various particles or water, which interferes with correct reading and verification.

Therefore, before performing the initial setup using the fingerprint scanner, you must have clean, dry hands, and also pay attention to the condition of the device in advance. In some cases, successful deletion of the specified parameters can only be performed if the main language of the smartphone is English. After successfully removing the biometric password, you can set the Russian interface and re-configure it.

In addition, many owners do not want to use their fingerprints for unlocking, as they are not aware of where the data is transferred and are worried that they can be used for other purposes. However, this is a delusion. Since such information is stored in the processor of the device and does not come anywhere from it. Therefore, there is no need to worry that the fingerprints could get into the hands of intruders or unauthorized persons. If you delete a fingerprint from your phone, its data will disappear irrevocably.

Instead of a conclusion

The introduction of fingerprint sensors into smartphones is a very entertaining and necessary innovation that provides both security and a significant simplification of interaction with the system. It also allows you to reduce the need for additional security programs. At the same time, it does not require coming up with confusing digital passwords or pattern keys, as well as remembering them, since you only need to put your finger to unlock.

The installation by Xiaomi of fingerprint scanners on its models has become more commonplace than a symbol of an elite device. The fingerprint on Xiaomi Redmi 3s was one of the first swallows to promote this technology “to the people”.

Already now, most of the new Xiaomi tablets can boast of having a high-precision scanner. For example, the slightly enlarged Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 or even the "half-tablet" Xiaomi Mi Max. The newest representative of the sixth line, Xiaomi Mi6, inherited and received an improved sensor hidden under the glass on the front of the phone.

In some budget models, like Xiaomi Redmi 4A, such a sensor is not provided at all, while in a fairly fresh Xiaomi Mi 5 it often works intermittently and may disappear completely.

Let's consider the algorithm for adding a new fingerprint.

How to turn on

Setting up a fingerprint on Xiaomi for the first time is as follows:

  1. Go to the "Settings" menu and select the "Lock screen and fingerprint" tab in the "System and device" list;
  2. Next, click on "Screen lock and fingerprint". In the new open menu pay attention to the lowest item in the window - "Add a fingerprint";
  3. The system offers to set a graphic key in case the supplied fingerprint on the scanner does not work or the device is partially out of order;
  4. We repeatedly apply any finger (the same one) to the surface of the scanner of your smartphone. An animation with a filling of a circle and a slight vibration of the device will inform you about the success of each stage of the scan.
  5. If everything is done correctly, you will receive a notification about successful setup. Your device is ready. Additionally, you can install and select one more fingerprint.

The location of the sensors will tell us how to make a scan more convenient. For example, in the Xiaomi Mi 5s, the sensor is located at the rear (by default for the index finger), while in the Mi 6 it is located at the front (for the thumb).

However, everything does not always go so smoothly. It happens that in certain models, like in the Redmi 4X, there is no fingerprint menu in the settings, or the phone does not respond to touches.

Possible problems

Xiaomi smartphones, like samples from other manufacturers, are not perfect. Some of them are susceptible to systematic problems (namely: Xiaomi fingerprint does not work) encountered by many users.

There may be several glitch options:

  • the fingerprint scanner is intermittent;
  • the saved sample is missing;
  • there is no reaction to pressing the sensor field;
  • the corresponding item in the settings menu has disappeared.

For self-elimination of these unpleasant phenomena in the smartphone, you need to perform the following actions:

  1. unlock it with the graphic key of the main screen set during setup;
  2. completely discharge the device until it turns off automatically;
  3. charge the battery up to 100%;
  4. wipe the sensor area of the sensor with a clean dry cloth;
  5. launch the smartphone (the sensor should work).

Often, tactile recognition stops working on Xiaomi Mi 5, which is explained by the flaws in the official firmware. If the phone still does not find it or the menu disappears, as if it did not exist, you need to contact service center Xiaomi. There, a detailed analysis of the malfunction that has arisen will be carried out on your phone, and, if necessary, repair or replacement of a part.

Nuances

Not in all cases Xiaomi with a fingerprint scanner should be handed over for repair or "tormented" with firmware with his own hand. New budget and flagship models of smartphones at the start have "raw" firmware. The developers simply do not have time to eliminate all its flaws. Most often, a new update is the solution to such troubles. Thus, the operation of the fingerprint scanner on the Mi 5s has been fixed.

A trivial reason that interferes with the recognition of the fingerprint of the lock screen can be a smeared or wet finger. Cuts and scars also negatively affect Xiaomi's ability to lock the screen.

Sometimes the problem is resolved by switching the language to English and then deleting the poorly recognized old scan pattern and replacing it with a new one.

An extreme option is to disable the broken scanner on the phone.

Removing a fingerprint

For the lines of Xiaomi Mi and Redmi phones, creating a new scan pattern is exactly like turning off the old one.

The removal process takes less than a minute:

  1. go to the "Screen lock and fingerprint" menu (the path to it is indicated in the second section of the article) and enter the password.
  2. by clicking on the item " New password», We confirm the deletion of the scan on the smartphone.

After disconnecting the sensor, it will not respond to touches until the owner wants to set a new profile.

Snapdragon 820, Tempered Gorilla Glass 4, highest quality photo - all these are the characteristics of most of the 2016 flagships. However, in this barrel of honey there is not even a spoon, but a whole ladle of tar - these smartphones are very expensive. And Xiaomi Mi5 is perhaps the only device that breaks the established stereotype.

Xiaomi Mi5 models

Xiaomi review Mi5 cannot be called complete apart from the study of its modifications. And here the "Chinese Apple" traditionally seeks to confuse the end customer. Remember at least the previous device - Mi4, of which there were plenty of different copies: these are Mi4i, and Mi4C, and now some kind of Mi4S. Outright horror!

Having presented the newest Mi5, the manufacturer has already started by releasing several versions of the device, each of which is different from each other in one way or another. What will happen next is scary to imagine.

Nevertheless, my test turned out to be a junior version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of white internal memory. This model is already available in three colors: gold, white or completely black. With the latter, at the time of publication of the material, there are problems even in China. It seems to be there, but in reality it is very difficult to buy it. But the silver-white variation is not difficult to acquire.

The next version with the same 3 gigabytes of RAM, but with 64 GB of internal memory. In addition, this model is more powerful than my sample and in some places is referred to with the prefix "Pro". The body colors are the same. Some users have already acquired this modification.

The juice itself is, of course, the top-end modification with a memory ratio of 4 + 128 GB. It has a hellish ceramic lid on the back, which in theory (and in practice) does not scratch. In addition, the model has not yet gone on sale, and when it does, it will only be available in black. It is reported that ceramics here are tempered at a temperature of as much as 1500 degrees Celsius, and the thickness of the coating itself is only 0.35 mm. Interesting fact, so to speak.

Equipment

I loved the kind of boxes Xiaomi made in the past. Recycled cardboard was used to make them. Nice, one might say, "lamp" appearance packages. In addition, each box could support the weight of one adult.

The box from Mi5 is just as solid (tested personally by my 83 kg), but its design is unremarkable. Exactly the same appearance can be found in any other smartphone manufacturer. Boredom.

Inside the device itself and accessories are laid out in their compartments. Quite frankly, all these cardboard insides and partitions give off a lot of cheapness. It's like unpacking some $ 100 Cubot.

The whole set is visible in the animation above. I will not describe it in detail. Of course, there are no additional covers here. If you order a device from China, be sure to ask the seller to report the adapter to the Russian plug and at least one film on the screen. For the first time.

Design

The first impression is the most positive. A beautiful, very neat, stylish smartphone and this is a fact. The device also evokes extremely positive emotions in others.

The case is perfectly assembled. No backlash, no creaks. I did not find any gaps or criminal gaps.

Everything is collected conscientiously and is consistent with the premium status of the device.

The set of front elements is completely standard. A little about the touch keys. They are equipped with moonlighting. The backlight duration can be adjusted by 20 or even 30 seconds, and not 6, as in Samsung.

There is a vibration feedback and I didn't like it.

The vibration resonates strongly throughout the body and you get the feeling that you are not holding a tightly packed gadget, but a rattling, empty blank.

Fortunately, the vibration intensity can be adjusted in the parameters. In this case, the rattles are no longer so strong.

The most pleasant response in my memory is in, for which a special Taptic Engine is responsible in it. Unfortunately, the Mi5 is far from it.

Surprisingly, Xiaomi did not install a 2.5D curved glass on the front panel. The front side is absolutely flat. The metal sides do not protrude above the body at all, so I would not recommend placing the device with the display down, despite the fact that Corning Gorilla Glass 4 is installed here.

Of course, there is an oleophobic coating. It perfectly copes with its task: it practically does not collect fingerprints, and the latter slide on the glass like on ice.

The back side also acquired the same glass, only it is really curved here and is already referred to as 3D.

By the way, the back is very similar to that in Samsung Galaxy Note 5. Borrowing between manufacturers is now in full swing, and only you and I benefit from this, getting gadgets balanced from all sides. Therefore, you should not kick xiaomi for allegedly copying something from the Koreans.

The back surface is very smooth. Why is that bad? If you put your smartphone near the edge of the table, then it can simply move out and crash on the floor. Believe me, the back is really very slippery. And if our fingers cling pretty well to the glass due to the peculiarity of the structure of papillary patterns and all that rest, then there is no need to cling to the back of the gadget on a hard and smooth surface.

In vibration mode, the device will definitely leave the table on its own and end up on the floor. In general, I warned you.

In the white and black models, the back of the corresponding color is without any pattern, but the gold one has a barely distinguishable mesh structure. I have not seen this model live, so I judge only by the press images.

For me personally, it is important how the device lies in the hand. It directly depends on whether there is a risk of dropping the device on the floor and breaking it. Of course, there is such a risk in Mi5, but it is much lower than in the same one or in the record holder for falls. As for me, it is simply impossible to hold the latter securely in your hands. Need a cover.

Peephole rear camera does not stick out here. More precisely, the sapphire crystal itself is flush with the case, but the metal border protrudes slightly, so it scratches very quickly. You can see this, however, only if you look closely.

On the top, in addition to the headphone and microphone jack, there is an infrared port. A proprietary control application was found in memory household appliances... It is partially in Chinese, but fortunately intuitive.

At the bottom end of the port USB Type-C... For some reason, everyone likes it when a manufacturer equips his brainchild with this connector. Personally, I can't think of a single real argument for. There is only one against: most likely in your environment you will be the only one with such a "breakthrough" device and you will not be able to borrow a charge from anyone. In addition, there is a problem with adapters. Personally, I have already ordered a couple of Chinese store... Just so as not to be out of work. By at least, I thought so, but more on that later.

The perforation around the connector is symmetrical: the microphone is on the left, and the multimedia speaker is on the right. By the way, it is quite loud and, best of all, it is of high quality. Sounds especially good standard ringtone"Guitar Classic". Most likely, you will not be able to miss an incoming call on a noisy street.

There are mechanical buttons on the side. They are slightly loose and this is normal. I have not yet met a single device where these keys would not wobble.

Not the left-hand side of a sliding slot for two Nano SIM cards... No memory cards for you, you will get by!

Obviously, that's what Xiaomi thought. I will not be surprised that such support will appear in Mi6 and it will be presented in the light of some kind of revelation, as Samsung did this year. Or it may not appear. Still, the Chinese manufacturer is actively promoting its own online services for watching videos and listening to music. Users do not need extra memory in such a case. A technique that LeEco has successfully practiced.

The fingerprint scanner

A gizmo worthy of its own section in the review. The sensor is located here on the front panel, right in the Home button. It has a ceramic coating.

Despite the narrow surface, the reading speed is good.

However, there is a downside. For the scanner to work, you need to press the button.

This is the path of the same Samsung and Apple. Most Android device manufacturers take a different approach - just touch the sensor. And this, in my opinion, is correct.

The front location of the scanner is the most convenient. I use smartphones in the car and mount them directly on the torpedo in the holder. In this case, it is enough to put your finger on the front key and the smartphone is unlocked. There is no need to climb somewhere behind the back and look for a contact pad there by touch. Still, while driving, you need to follow the road, and not stick your finger where it is not clear.

The scanner is used here in the standard mode: to block the device itself, to protect individual files with an imprint and to pay through online wallet(only in China).

Unfortunately, you cannot put a fingerprint lock on applications. They can only be protected with a password or pattern key... It's strange somehow.

And a little more about the control keys. They are sensory and touch can be divided into two types: short tap or hold. These can be two different functions, which is convenient.
