Where are the screenshots in "Steam" - instructions for finding. Where are screenshots and games in the Steam folder? Steam does not take screenshots in the game

The standard way to take a screenshot in any game launched through the Steam service is very simple, just use the F12 key. After we do this, a characteristic sound will be heard and a pop-up window with a fresh image will appear.

The new screenshot can be uploaded to the Velv server, where it will be stored. In this case, access to it is opened from any device. In order to do this, you need to tick all the necessary screenshots and click on the "Download" tab. We remind you that there must be an active internet connection.

Change the hotkey

It also happens that F12 may not be suitable for us for some reason, and using it may complicate the overall gameplay. In this case, we can always bind the screenshot function to another key. To do this, do the following:

  • Launch Steam.
  • We go to the settings menu and go to the next subsection, which is called "In the game".
  • Now you need to choose a new key for the photo. The line "Keyboard shortcut" will help us with this: move the cursor over it, click on the cross and click on any button you like on the keyboard.

By the way, other settings are also changed in this section, for example, the sound that plays when taking a photo or showing pop-up notifications.

Where screenshots from Steam are stored

As soon as we took the picture, it was automatically saved somewhere on the computer. After that, many users have the following question: where are screenshots from "Steam" stored?

To begin with, it's worth saying that just like with the hotkey, we can change the location for the future upload of any picture. This is done according to a similar scheme described just above. If we talk about the standard place where Steam screenshots are stored, they are uploaded to the root folder of the application itself. This is done automatically.

For quick and easy access to the location of the screenshot in "Steam", just take a picture, and then select the "Show on disk" command in the pop-up window. In this simple way, we will open the folder we need, tied to the game in which we last photographed. By the way, it happens that instead of letters, the path is displayed in numbers, which is absolutely normal.

In the same place we will find the rest of the related Steam folders, where screenshots belonging to other games are stored. If there is nothing in them, then you can try to take a picture from any application and check again.

The manual way to find the folder with screenshots is usually the following: C: Program Files (x86) Steamuser data120058444760remote.

Learning to download images from Steam

Having dealt with the place where screenshots from "Steam" are stored, you can proceed to the next question.

What do I need to do to download the images I have taken? The necessary settings are in our profile, so open it and select the "Screenshots" category on the right.

We will be shown a list of all the shots we have taken for all the time. By the way, the navigation inside is very clear, since all photos are divided into groups and can be manually filtered.

After that, click on the screenshot and copy the link - this is done in order to use the copied address in the address bar of our browser. This is where we download the images.

However, a new question immediately pops up: is it possible to save screenshots from other accounts? Answer: yes, but only if there are no restrictions on their visibility in our profile. The settings are also checked in the "Screenshot management".

In which folder to find screenshots in steam

Knowing the path to the game or where the screenshots are in steam is very important for any gamer.

With this information, you can easily copy, move or delete files if necessary, and not spend a lot of time trying to figure out where the treasured data is.

First of all, remember whether you specified a new location for saving screenshots in the incentive or left it as standard. If the path to the files has not changed, then:

  • Go to Local drive C => Program Files (x86) => Steam => userdata ==> 67779646.

The numerical value in the name of the folder after userdata is the identifier number of your PC, folders with numbers in the name are nested in it, each such folder corresponds to one of the games of your Steam account.

This method will not be very convenient if you have a large number of games on your account. You will have to go into all the folders to find the right game moment.

  • Another way to find out in which folder to find Steam screenshots is to use the client.

Click Steam => View tab => Screenshots => screenshot downloader =>

Select the game => find, click on the image and the button “Show on disk”.

How to take screenshots in Steam

By default, to take a screenshot in the game, you just need to press the F12 key, after which you will hear a flash sound, and a new window with a screenshot will appear in the Steam overlay.

By the way, it can be uploaded to Valve servers, from where it can be accessed from any device and anywhere. To do this, you need to mark the screenshots that you want to upload to your page, and then click on the "Upload" button. In this case, the Internet must be turned on.

How to change the screenshot button on Steam

If the F12 key is somehow involved in the game, every time you press it, you will get a screenshot, which is very inconvenient. We advise you to remap the keys either in the game itself or on Steam. To do this, you need:

    • Start the Steam client;
    • Click on the "Steam" button in the upper left of the screen;
    • Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu;
  • Go to the "In-game" section;
  • Now click on the cross in the "Shortcut keys for screenshot" field;
  • When the field is empty (it should say "None"), left-click on it, and then click on the key on the keyboard that you want to set to create screenshots in Steam;
  • Click OK.

Please note that in the screenshots settings menu, you can also change the keyboard shortcut for invoking the overlay, customize the sound when creating a screenshot, showing notifications, as well as the process of saving an uncompressed copy.

Location of screenshots on the computer

Once you have taken a screenshot, it is automatically saved on your computer. The folder where screenshots will be saved can be changed to any other in the same place (Steam settings / In the game /), where the keys are assigned. However, by default, screenshots are stored in the root Steam folder.

To find this folder as quickly as possible, take a screenshot, and then in the additional overlay window, click "Show on disk". This will open a folder with screenshots of a specific game.

The related folders contain screenshots from other games, if any. It is noteworthy that the folder with screenshots may have a name in numbers, rather than words denoting the game.

Do not be alarmed - it should be so!

If you want to manually find the folder with screenshots, the path to it usually looks like this: C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ userdata \ 120058444 \ 760 \ remote \ (the numbers for each user may differ). However, the path can be different depending on where you installed Steam and the choice for storing screenshots.

How to download a screenshot from Steam

To be able to access screenshots from any device (even from a mobile phone or tablet), screenshots must be uploaded to the server. Then you need to open your Steam profile, and on the right side of the display go to the "Screenshots" menu.

Editing the folder with screenshots through the settings

All screenshots taken are located there. For convenience, you can filter their display by creation date or game.

If you went to your profile through the official Steam website to download a screenshot, just open it in a new window, right-click, then click "Save Image As ...", and select the location where the screen will be located.

If you do not have restrictions on displaying screenshots in the visibility settings, then you can even download them from another account. To open or close access to displaying screenshots, in the menu, click "Manage screenshots". A submenu will pop out from above - in it you can configure the display of screenshots to everyone, only to friends or only to yourself. You can also delete screenshots here.

We have to figure out where the screenshots are in Steam. This question is of interest to many users. Especially if you plan to post pictures on third-party sites. Anyway, it's interesting to see what happened during the game. Let's try to understand "Steam", and also try to find them on our computer.

In a programme

The first option is to view the saved snapshots directly in the application. As a rule, this moment does not cause any particular difficulties for users. Not sure where the screenshots are in Steam? Then it's time to look into the center of the community of this or that toy. It is here that you can see other people's screenshots.

All you have to do is go to the community, and then select the "Screenshots" option there. And that's all. A few minutes of waiting - you can admire other people's pictures and post your own there. For the convenience of searching for specific images, you can use special filters. They help you customize the display options for images. Just what you need if you are looking for something specific.

On the computer

But often the question of where the screenshots are in "Steam" implies your own pictures. Finding them is much more difficult than those made and posted by other users. Why?

The whole problem is that all screenshots will be "stacked" in "Steam" in the game library. You can find it if you remember the installation path of the toy. Go through it and then select Screenshots in the folder. This is where all the shots of a certain game that could only be taken from your account will be.

True, there is another scenario for the development of events. It helps you figure out where the screenshots are in Steam. We are talking about using the application of the same name to view and search them.

All yours always with you

We return to the Steam program. Here, each user has the opportunity to view all screenshots he has made. In addition, you have the right to upload pictures to the game communities. Straight from the program.

Where are the screenshots in Steam? Go through the authorization in the application, then select the "View" item on the control panel. You will have a long list with many lines. To see your screenshots, click on "Screenshots". Further - in the window that appears, open the "Show ..." parameter, select the desired game there, and then view what will be offered. Important - you will not see in the list those toys in which screenshots were not made. Do not be alarmed, it should be so.

    Introduction

    There are many users on steam who like to take beautiful screenshots, but not all take into account some points in which their work could be better. This is why I decided to write this guide.

    You don't have to be a professional photographer or artist to take beautiful screenshots; you only need to know a little basics and follow some of the conditions that will be given in this guide.

    I also want to say that I am the owner of a video card from NVIDIA, so everything that has been said below will refer mostly to the green camp. AMD will be mentioned only occasionally in some places where possible.

    Preparation

    Graphics settings

    Before capturing the moment for a better screenshot, I advise you to unscrew all the maximum possible graphics settings, which is very obvious, but still worth mentioning. You don't need to run like this all the time, especially if you have a weak system. It is enough to use it when needed. You can also increase the resolution, but this is at your discretion, the main thing is that they are not lower than the modern standard (16: 9, 1920 x 1080).

    Format and resolution

    I noticed that screenshots taken in a wide format, for example 21: 9, are valued better than the same 16: 9. If you have a 1920 x 1080 monitor, no problem. This can be fixed programmatically, provided that you have an NVIDIA graphics card. Be warned that this method cannot be used with DSR technology. Screenshots also look good in portrait format, this is usually done using Photoshop.

    Hattiwatti "s Cinematic Tools

    Cinematic tools are designed for the game-keen screenshotter and content creator, whose options are often limited to games without a screenshot mode, or to those intended for casual users. You can find out more about it on the developer's website.

    Other programs for capturing images

    • MSI Afterburner - this program is used for overclocking, but it can also take screenshots in pure PNG without loss and compression.
    • AMD ReLive - if you have an AMD GPU, this is their proprietary software with advanced screenshot tools.
    • Fraps is a popular tool for taking screenshots and recording videos from games.
    • Steam - it's no secret that the incentive also has an image capture function. By default, to take a screenshot in the game, you must press the F12 key. You can reassign the button in the client settings. It would seem the most convenient option, but alas, not the best. Taking screenshots through the steam client, you will lose quality.
    For more details, see Programs and Utilities.

    Additionally

    In some games you may find a built-in photo mode (free camera), for example in games such as Assassin's Creed Origins or Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice. In others, this function may be presented in the developer console.

    Post-processing graphics

    SweetFX

    SweetFX Is a utility that provides advanced graphics settings for games. It belongs to the shader injector class, that is, it adds and changes the code in d3d.dll (this is a DirectX library). With its help, you can change in the game those parameters that are not provided in, in fact, the game settings themselves. You can manually change anti-aliasing, sharpen the image, add Bloom or pseudo-HDR to the game, tweak the gamma, add vignetting and even turn on split-screen to see the difference before and after.

    I myself have used this utility only a few times, and then I stopped. I don't know why, I probably like the game in the form in which the developers intended it, or I'm just too lazy to install several programs and then look for the necessary presets. If you don't want to use Photoshop every time, then why not.

    The advantages of this utility:

    • The downloaded preset can be turned on and off right in the game using a hotkey, often without any reloading or freezing.
    • The game can get prettier without dropping FPS. Playing with colors alone (HDR imitation) will not affect performance in any way.
    • Changing the above settings does not conflict with other image capturing programs in any way. Moreover, the program itself is able to take screenshots.

    Image processing

    If you don't like the SweetFX option, Photoshop will always come to the rescue. But this does not mean that you need to choose one thing, you can also combine. However, good pictures can be uploaded without processing.

    Working in Photoshop is probably the best way to transform a screenshot into a masterpiece. Sometimes even a simple screenshot can be used to create a good job, it all depends on how well you know how to use Photoshop. I personally sympathize with this option.

    The best in this category can be confidently considered Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe photoshop ... I advise you to use Lightroom , since it is basically the same Adobe photoshop , but with more flexible color settings. In addition, it is not difficult to learn, having downloaded the program in Russian, everything will become intuitively clear.

    An alternative can be a free program Gimp or web editor Pixlr.

    SteaScree

    is a simple open source cross-platform utility that makes it much easier to upload screenshots to the Steam Cloud taken without using Steam in an overlay game. You just choose your photos, choose your game and SteaScree will do the rest.

    SteaScree features:

    • the ability to copy screenshots for different games before preparing them all for download
    • retrieves game titles from Steam's public internet API
    • handles creation date correctly
    • can automatically resize huge screenshots that exceed the Steam Cloud limits
    • support for multiple user accounts
    • automatically converts PNG, BMP, TIFF screenshots to JPEG
    • support for multiple steam installations
    • does not even support Steam games
    • cross-platform and open source

    Useful Tips

    Introduction

    Before you start, study the work of famous photographers for some inspiration, you can learn a lot from the masters.

    I'm not saying every screenshot you take should be high art, but sometimes when I feel uninspired, looking at portfolios of real photographers can spark a creative spark. In addition, studying the work of the masters can lead you to think about other elements of photography, such as composition, angle, lighting, exposure, etc., which we will talk about separately below.

    Rule of thirds

    One of the main aspects of composing a large shot is the rule of thirds. Divide the scene into a grid of nine rectangles mentally, then make sure your subject is along the lines or where they intersect.

    This technique is a great way to help you achieve artful, balanced composition, and has been used by photographers, painters, filmmakers, and nearly every kind of visual artist for hundreds, if not thousands of years. Not every shot has to obey this rule, as there are many compositional techniques, but this is the main thing to keep in mind.

    Field of view

    Expand your field of view to show more of the landscape or to frame larger, distant objects. This is one of the best ways to convey the scale of a landscape or subject, but don't go too far. You will get a fish-eye effect if you overuse it, making your image look distorted and unnatural.

    Approximation

    You can also increase the field of view to focus on the finer details of the scene. Perspectives and sunsets are fun to shoot, and modern games get ridiculously good at them, but the little things can be just as impressive. Whether it's a flower, an animal, a costume detail, or a subtle architectural flourish, using a virtual lens to explore the intricacies of the game world can be as compelling as capturing the bigger picture.

    Scale

    Placing your character in front of a perspective or something larger for that matter greatly improves the sense of scale. This is especially effective in space games like Elite Dangerous, where the silhouette of a ship can make its various celestial bodies - planets, stars, etc. - appear incredibly huge.

    Depth of field

    Also known as aperture on a traditional camera, knowing how depth of field works allows you to focus on the subject in the foreground or background, deliberately blurring the rest of the image.

    Adjust the intensity of blur and focus and you can create impressive, photorealistic images, but keep it subtle. Again, this is one of those effects that is often overused. Skillful use of a shallow depth of field, especially when focusing on a specific subject in an image, can really enhance the sense of being in the frame.

    Portrait shots

    While we're talking about depth of field, portrait photography is a whole art form, but a good technique is adjusting the depth of field to make your subject the focal point of the image, without any background noise distracting the eye.

    Portraits can be close-ups of characters' faces, full body shots, and everything in between. The important thing is that it is the person at the heart of the image, not the place, but you can also use the environment to reveal something about your personality.

    Exposition

    In-camera exposure determines how much light reaches the film or sensor, and many photo modes simulate this. If the image feels like it lacks punch, increase the exposure slightly to make it clearer and brighter.

    But if you go too far, you will detonate the image, and it will look like a nuclear bomb has just detonated. Increasing exposure can also reduce or erase details around lights or shadows, so with all things, finding the right balance depending on what you want to convey.

    Times of Day

    One thing that goes hand in hand with exposure is the time of day / night of your scene. Changing the light in games with day / night cycles can drastically change the mood of a scene (think Dying Light). So wait for the right moment to fire. The place may look boring at noon, but turn into something beautiful at dusk.

    Some games give you manual control over the time of day, such as photo mode in No Man's Sky or GTA V's director mode. Otherwise, just like real photography, it's all about observation and anticipation.

    Filters

    Many photo modes come with built-in filters that can reproduce various effects: old movies, analog movies, retro games. But most of them are ugly and you should avoid using them most of the time. But in some games, you can adjust the intensity of the filter to blend in with the natural colors of the image, and you can create interesting, stylish effects if you get the balance just right. It's worth experimenting with them.

    Post-processing

    The best you can do is take your original images into a graphics package like Photoshop or Lightroom and manually adjust the brightness, contrast, and color levels. Even the smallest adjustment can make a huge difference in the final composition. Just make sure that whatever you use to capture screenshots, be it Steam or something like Fraps, is outputting an uncompressed image. You don't want a load of gnarly jpg artifacts to ruin your shot.
