The new keyboard does not work. Keyboard does not print letters

So, your laptop keyboard is not working. There is no reason to despair, because in most cases the situation is easily fixable. In this case, it does not matter at all what brand.

There can be several reasons: from the most primitive to very sad. Let's start in order.

Reason 1: the microcircuit burned out

Perhaps the most deplorable problem from which no one is immune. If the keyboard does not work on the laptop, check the touchpad and all ports routed around the perimeter of the machine. Pay special attention to USB and RJ-45 (socket for connecting network cable).

If they do not work, then there is nothing left but to refer the "victim" to the service. If the case is under warranty, demand replacement of the device.

You cannot repair such a breakdown on your own, unless you have been professionally engaged in such things for several years.

But if the ports are still workers, this is fixable. Most likely, the matter is in the cable with which the keyboard is connected to the motherboard. It is worth clarifying that the laptop will have to be disassembled, otherwise you simply will not get close to the socket.

The keyboard is fastened with special latches that are easy to pry off by plastic card with the subsequent removal of the problem module.

And like this, disassembled:

1) connection connector;

2) the loop itself.

The fastening of the train could oxidize over time, move away or squeeze out, which is quite normal. Especially if the room where you work is dominated by a humid environment. Simply put the mount back in place after cleaning it.

In most cases, the procedure should help.

Reason 2: carelessness

This item concerns the owners of a separate digital block, which looks like this:

If the numbers on the keyboard do not work, the problem is in you, and that's all. Often inattentive users accidentally touch the button Num lock responsible for turning on the block.

Therefore, if instead of numbers, the page starts to move on the screen, or the cursor moves, press the key again. In this case, the corresponding indicator should light up, indicating that the function is activated.

For those who are confused by the screenshot, some laptop models only support the Fn + Num Lock keyboard shortcut.

Reason 3: viruses and driver corruption

If the problem is not a hardware one, the problem may lie in the software as well. The virus could kill the keyboard driver. To do this, scan the system for spyware and see the results. After that, we reboot and install the drivers again.

In most cases it should help.

To do this, reboot by periodically pressing F8 to call context menu choice. A menu of additional boot options will open. We need a standard " safe mode". After starting the OS, you will need to do everything described below.

We are trying to remove the problematic utility, or click "roll back". Rollback is useful only if the driver was previously updated, which caused the breakdown. The previous, working version of the software will be restored. But to delete, we do the following:

Open "My Computer" and click on "properties".

Go to the "Dispatcher" and look for the section with keyboards

In the screenshot, it looks like this:

Click on the keyboard right click mouse and look for the item "properties".

If the driver was updated incorrectly, click Roll Back. Well, if the system stopped seeing the keyboard at all - "Delete". But in the latter case, you should have the original drivers from the manufacturer ready.

You click on the letters you are used to on the laptop keyboard, and completely different characters appear on the screen, do not worry, this is easily solved. If the keyboard is typing the wrong letters and symbols that you press, there may be several reasons. I will tell you about each of them and the options for solving the problem below.

Reason # 1: An additional keyboard is enabled, which is activated by the Fn key.

Most likely the reason is the FN key pressed, press Fn + Ins (Insert) and try typing, in some cases Fn + Num Lock should help.

As I said, pressing the Fn key activates additional symbols attached to the buttons, usually they are signed in a different color and drawn on the buttons in the corner. The Fn button is only available on laptops and is made to save space, so if you have regular computer, but the wrong letters are printed, read on.

Reason # 2: Sticky Keys is on.

Windows has a Sticky Keys mechanism, it is activated if you press one button or several buttons many times in a row. Very often cats turn on this mode for us, walking on the keyboard or lying on it.

Disabling Sticky Keys is simple: you need to go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Accessibility (or Ease of Access Center) -> there find "A set of keyboard shortcuts one by one" or "Sticky Keys", find the checkbox "Enable Sticky Keys "And remove it.

Reason # 3: Crumbs in the keyboard, or other rubbish.

Everything is simple here, look visually at the keyboard if crumbs or other debris are visible between the buttons. Flip the keyboard over and shake gently until all or most of the crumbs fall out from under the buttons, then check to see if that helps. Repeat until all buttons work.

Reason # 4: Problems with regional settings.

Check in Start Menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Language and regional standards-> here is the "Languages" tab and click "More" -> here check which keyboards you have, there should be Russian and English (USA). Please note that there are no postscripts next to the word Russian: Mashinny, Ukraine, Belarus, etc. If you had a wrong layout, delete it and click on the "Add language" or "Add layout \ keyboard" button. Then choose the correct Russian, no postscripts.

Choosing the correct Russian layout

If both keyboards were correct, try hitting each letter in English layout and see if the letters and symbols are being pressed correctly, if they match what you are pressing. If yes, then you need to check your computer for viruses and once again, just in case, make sure that the correct Russian layout has been added. It will not be superfluous to delete it and add it again, just in case. If, on the English layout, inconsistencies between what you press and what appears on the screen continue, then you have a problem with the keyboard itself and it needs to be replaced.

Keyboard doesn't work at all

Possible reasons

  • Broken cable
  • Lack of connectivity
  • Lack of BIOS support
  • Pollution

How to fix?

  1. Check the cable for kinks. Also check the plug, perhaps it just fell out of the connector, or the pins were bent in it, but this is if you have a keyboard with a PS / 2 connector.
  2. Check its functionality in the "Device Manager", which is located in the "Control Panel". Find the keyboard there. If it is not there, then it is probably not working at all or the computer cannot find its driver. So take out the keyboard and insert it again.
  3. For equipped with a connector USB keyboards there is one more option. Connect working keyboard to your computer and go to BIOS. To do this, immediately after turning on the PC, you need to press the Delete key (the key can be any, but, as a rule, it is Delete). Find there an item called "USB Keyboard Support" (it may be different, but the first 2 words should be "USB Keyboard"). Then activate this item by selecting Enabled and restart your computer.
  4. Clean any dirt from the keyboard. To do this, turn the keyboard over with the buttons down and shake it well. This will help shake solid residues such as crumbs or hair out of the keyboard. You may need to disassemble the keyboard. Turn it over with the keys on the table, unscrew the screws on the bottom of the keyboard. Try not to lose the cogs! Then carefully remove the bottom without shaking the keyboard, otherwise you will lose the keys, and also get another problem. Now remove the small board and clean the contacts on it. Then, remove and inspect the contact films, of which there should be 3 pieces, if they are wet or dirty with something (of course, if they are clean, it is better not to do anything with them), gently wash them in warm water, wipe with a dry cloth and leave dry, then put everything back.

Digits or block of digits do not work

Possible reasons

  • Broken cable
  • Lack of connectivity
  • Disabled number pad (or Numpad)
  • Pollution

How to fix?

  1. Inspect the cable and plug.
  2. Then check the status Num lock, if the indicator is off, then you just need to turn it on.
  3. Alternatively, you have enabled the cursor control option from the keyboard in your system, then you should turn it off. Go to Start - Control Panel - Accessibility - Mouse, there we uncheck the "Control from the keyboard" checkbox.
  4. And if nothing worked for you, perform the cleaning, the procedure of which is described above.

Letters don't work

Possible reasons

  • Broken cable
  • Lack of connectivity
  • Lack of settings in the game
  • Pollution

How to fix?

  1. Check the cable with the plug according to the already established algorithm.
  2. If this problem overtook you, for example, in the game, then you should go to the game settings and assign the keys to actions, because they may simply not be configured.
  3. Finally, clean the keyboard.

We hope that we were able to help you. Take care of your keyboard and it will serve you for many years!

Sometimes it happens that while working at the computer, the keyboard does not type letters. Agree, the situation is unpleasant. Especially, it is very unpleasant when you need to quickly finish an important report on work or finish writing as soon as possible coursework to the institute, since the deadline has already come very close. This situation is no less puzzling for those who, by the sweat of their brow, are fighting for the battle of the world in a computer game.

And here we need to figure it out, so why does the keyboard not type? A few years ago, such a question was quite common, but now, in the so-called "era of USB", such problems with the keyboard are rare. Because with the rapid development of computing devices, many problems have been eliminated. And if the keyboard is still broken, then we can say that its owner is definitely "lucky".

Why might the keyboard break?

The following main reasons for keyboard breakdown can be distinguished:

1. Problems with the plug.

All modern computer technology is connected to via USB connectors. The keyboard connects to motherboard also using the USB serial bus interface. Its predecessor was the PS \ 2 standard, which has a number of drawbacks compared to USB. So USB has the advantage of being quick to replace.

This means that while the computer is running, the user can disconnect the plug and plug it into any free socket. The negative point is that with frequent switching of the device, the plug loses the elasticity of the spring-loaded contacts, which in the future can lead to disruption of the normal functioning of the device. As a result, it often happens that the keyboard does not print letters.

Remedy: first of all, do not abuse the frequent change of the connector and rearrange the plug when the system unit should only be done in extreme cases. There is only one way out of the situation - it is to replace the plug. To check the operation of the contacts, you need to turn off the computer and turn it on again, slightly shaking the plug.

2. Problems with electricity.

The keyboard is a USB device and is powered by directly from the port. The peculiarity of the internal bus is that several connectors are connected to one microcircuit. And in case several are simultaneously connected to the control microcircuit. powerful devices current exceeding 500 mA, normal operation may be impaired.

Remedy: the solution to this problem is very simple - you need to disconnect all connected USB devices except for the most essential.

3. Problem with power supply or other element

Such problems most often occur in older laptops or computers. This arises due to the deterioration of parts, which have already fully exhausted their resources and cannot provide the required voltage level.

Remedy: you need to contact a specialized service center, to replace old parts.

4. Broken connector.

The possibility of damage to the connector itself should not be ruled out. To check this, you need to connect the plug to a different USB port.

5. Failure in the program.

Interaction between operating system and the keyboard is carried out through the use of a control program driver. Sometimes the driver stops functioning correctly and the user cannot understand why the characters on the keyboard do not respond.

Remedy: using the cursor (mouse) you need to go to the "Device Manager", find the keyboard update function. In case this failed, it is necessary to disconnect the device and remove the driver responsible for the keyboard. Then you need to try to reconnect the keyboard, the Plug & Play mechanism should turn on.

6. Incorrect settings

A situation is possible when the Disable mode is enabled on the computer, which implies refusal to use USB.

Remedy: use the old PS \ 2 keyboard to enter BIOS and change the mode.
