Dear colleagues. Recently, a friend of mine who works in a photo studio called me and told me about such a problem. Brought them DVD disc to print photos from it, but after the disc was inserted into the drive, the computer freezes, the drive does not respond to any action, and it is not possible to remove the disc.

Let's try to figure out what can be done in this situation and how to remove the disc from the drive.

    Situation 1.

Suppose you inserted a disc that your computer could not recognize or "read". You want to eject a disc, but the drive has stopped responding to a button press.

First of all, open the "My Computer" folder, find the device in which you inserted the disc, click on it right click and select the "Extract" item in the drop-down menu:

If that doesn't work, restart your computer and try ejecting the disc by pressing the drive button before loading the operating system. If the drive does not respond, then wait until the operating system is fully loaded and try again to eject the disc using the menu in the "My Computer" folder.

    Situation 2

You inserted a disc, after that the drive stopped responding to your attempts to eject the disc, and when you open the "My Computer" folder, there is an empty space instead of the drive icon. First of all, try restarting your computer and try to eject the disc before the system boots.

If this does not help, after loading the operating system, check whether your drive is detected and whether the drive icon appears in the "My Computer" folder. If the icon does not appear, try using System Restore to restore your computer to an earlier state.

If you are unable to use the system restore function (for example, if it is disabled), or the restoration did not work, try removing and reconnecting your drive. This is how it is done. Open the device manager and find our floppy drive:

Select it and at the top click on the "Action" item, and in the drop-down menu, select "Delete". In the window that opens, click OK and complete the removal of the device:

    Reboot your computer.

After rebooting the operating room Windows systems the device will be detected and reinstalled.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
If you are not prompted to restart your computer, follow these steps.
From the Action menu in Device Manager, select the Update hardware configuration option.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

After your drive is identified by the operating system and appears in the my computer folder, try to eject the disc using the menu of the “My computer” folder or by pressing the button.

    Situation 3.

You inserted a disc and the computer is completely frozen. Neither reboot nor other manipulations help. Then do the following. Turn off your computer. Take a thin metal object (a thin needle, a large needle, or a piece of a straightened paper clip). Look for a small hole on the front of the CD / DVD, as shown in the picture:

Then you insert a needle (or other metal object) into this hole and start pressing. The more you press down, the more the disc tray ejects. The main thing is to press in the needle evenly, because you may not get on the lever that is responsible for ejecting the disc. Then, when the tray is pulled out enough, pull it out completely by hand, remove the disc and push the tray back in.

Reboot your computer and check the performance of your drive. If even after removing the disk your drive refuses to work normally, then it is possible that it is out of order and either it needs to be replaced or repaired.

By the way, the last method of ejecting the disc can come in handy when there is no way to turn on the computer (for example, due to a lack of electricity in the network), but you urgently need disk which is in your floppy drive.

    Best regards, Alexey Dneprov.

A disc can get stuck in a drive for a variety of reasons. In any case, it must be removed. This should be done as follows: If you cannot eject the disc by simply pressing the open / close button on the drive, there is a chance that the problem lies in the button itself. To exclude or, on the contrary, confirm this option, you must use programmatically extraction. To do this, open the "My Computer" window, then right-click on the drive icon and select the "Eject" command in the menu that appears.

If no reactions have occurred, most likely some of the files on the disk are occupied by a system process. In order to find out whether this is so, you need to use the "Unlocker" program. Having installed it on the computer, an item with the same name Unlocker will appear in the drive menu, you need to click on it. After that, the program window will open, where information about which process is using the file on the disk will be indicated. How to remove a hard drive

Some users prefer to repair office equipment with their own hands. Sometimes you need to remove the hard drive to repair it. This is quite simple to do. Before you start removing the hard drive, you need to disconnect Personal Computer from the mains supply. This point is key in the question of how to remove the hard drive. Now you need to start disassembling the computer case. First, you need to remove the side covers from the system unit, so you can see six bolts on the back of the case. Unscrewing them, there will be free access to remove the hard drive.

Before you begin to unscrew the fastening bolts of the hard drive itself, you must disconnect all power wires and cables leading to the device. This should be done very carefully, as there is a high probability of damage to any of the wiring. After the loops are disconnected from the device, you can proceed to the direct unscrewing of the mounting bolts. As you unscrew it, it is best to fold the bolts separately from the rest so that they do not mix up in the subsequent assembly process. After all the screws holding the hard drive are unscrewed, you can easily remove the hard drive itself.

Most likely, after these manipulations, the radio tape recorder will "give" the disc. If this method does not help, then you can try to remove the disc by picking it up with tweezers or fine tweezers. If none of the above options coped with the solution of the problem, you should seek help from specialists. They will be able to disassemble the radio and remove the disc outside.

My explorer shows three drives C: D: E :. C and D are sections hard disk, and E is a CD drive, BUT I DO NOT HAVE IT!
Until now, it did not bother me, but now I have made another hard disk partition and the letter F is assigned to it, since E is busy and a non-existent drive has been wedged between the hard disk partitions!
How to remove a non-existent CD-drive or at least change its letter? Let me remind you right away that Acronis and other programs are not suitable for working with hard disk partitions - they cannot see CD drives, especially those that do not exist!

Thanks to the guys, they thought about how to delete the nonexistent drive E!

    Thank you very much!!!

    Sagris | September 2, 2016 4:01 pm
I assume that you installed the UltraIso Portabl program on a local disk and did not delete the folder with the program, find and delete it, and get rid of the non-existent "CD E"

    Abdul | April 28, 2016 10:29 am
Uninstall UltraISO if not needed. And if you use the program, then in the program in the settings, disable virtual disk or rename.
UltraISO-Options-settings-virtual drive - number of drives - set to zero.

    Alexey | August 3, 2014, 09:28
Even in the UltraISO settings, you need to disable the virtual disk (if this program is installed).

    Presto | May 18, 2013 6:13 pm
There is a way, but you have to use the registry editor. V command line run regedit.exe. Select HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ MountedDevices, right-click on \ DosDevices \ E: - Rename - replace E with any free letter - close the registry editor, reboot. Now, in Disk Management, assign the freed letter E to the third partition. And the entry in MountedDevices corresponding to the drive can be deleted, if it appears again, then it is no longer under the letter E.

There are many answers and everything is irrelevant. It was said that this drive LED is nowhere to be seen except in the conductor. And it is not in the device manager. And then they write to change his letter. I wonder how if the disk is not visible anywhere? They are talking about some nameless program. I have the same problem. I read once that you can remove it from BIOS, but where this article I can’t find for a long time ago.

    Maybe someone remembers?

On your screenshot - you have a CD-Rom on your system. If you do not physically have a CD-drive in the system, then this is a virtual CD-Rom. How to delete? Windows tools or the program that made this virtual CD-Rom. You have already written about it here. They also wrote how to change the letter. You can also look in this article about changing the letter (here with pictures). If you do not understand what they are talking about, then call a specialist, let him fix everything on the spot.

If there is no physical CD-drive in the computer, but my computer shows the sit-drive, then most likely a sidi-rum emulator is turned on, such as daimon tools or it is in the same Nero ...

How do I remove the disc?

Moreover, anyway you will need to get it.

First, make sure that all programs using the drive, whether it is writing files to it or using any actions with the drive, are stopped and closed. The simplest is to right-click on the drive and select eject the disk if it cannot be ejected, go to the next method:

Why does the DVD drive tray in my computer keep opening?

Another self-made repair, this time they brought a desktop computer, with a sealed tape, a drive tray.

Symptoms of the disease are something like this: the drive tray is constantly opening and closing, Windows is loading and running slowly, and when you try to access the DVD drive through Windows, the Explorer window generally falls into a complete stupor.

To begin with, I disassembled system unit and disconnected the data cable from the DVD drive itself. To exclude the influence on the drive of Windows itself or some kind of picked up viruses. But this option gave nothing, the drive still opened and closed the tray, even while in the BIOS.

Taking a good look at the tray itself, we somewhat confused these seizures and creases on the front surface of the drive and around the tray. Apparently they tried to open it by brute force, picking the tray with something sharp.

Although to open the tray, it was enough to simply insert a paper clip into the desired hole, slightly press on it and the tray would slide out by itself.

Disconnected all cables from the drive and pulled it completely out of the system unit.

Here you can see that the edge of the tray is bent inward, such dents were practically around the entire perimeter.

We remove the decorative strip of the tray. The latches are at the bottom, so we pull its bottom edge towards ourselves and at the same time push towards the top so that it slides off the guides.

We straighten or cut off all the creases, after which we assemble the drive, connect all the cables and check.

In my case, the problem was immediately resolved, the drive stopped pulling out the tray.

How do I get a disc out of the drive if it won't open?

As it turned out, the whole problem was in these creases on the decorative strip of the tray. It looked like the tray did not close completely, as a result of which, the sensors did not work as it should and the brains of the drive began to drive the tray back and forth. It would be possible not to remove the drive from the housing, since the bar can be easily removed from the outside. But I also decided to look inside the drive, in case of possible damage. So if your computer suffers from something like this, then the first step is to inspect the drive from the outside. Especially if you tried to pull the disc out of it with brute force before.
