What the iPhone consists of. What is the display of the iphone Apple iphone 5s what is it made of?

We will analyze what basic modules each iPhone consists of.

Take the iPhone 6s as an example.

Display

Typically, this part is referred to as a "display module". In addition to the button and speaker, which are held in place by screws and can be easily removed, the module consists of many layers:

  1. External protective glass
  2. Polarizing film
  3. Touchscreen, applied to glass
  4. Backlight- a pack of polarizing and other films, which are illuminated at the edges by small LEDs, the films distribute the light evenly over the entire surface
  5. Multiple layers light-transmitting adhesive
  6. Plastic frame
  7. Protective metal shield
  8. Loops touchscreen, display and backlight - they are connected to the board

Frame

All parts are held on the body. The iPhone 6s has a non-separable body, but the iPhone 4 / 4s had a removable back cover.

In newer models, the back is a "tray" that covers the display. There are no other body parts in the iPhone.

Motherboard

The board contains a huge number of elements. Only their list takes several A4 sheets. Small print.

The photo shows the motherboard from the iPhone 6s. On other models, the location (and sometimes the composition) of the chips and elements is different. In addition, different models use different types of chips, even if they perform the same function. Even within the same model, chips can change, depending on the version, release, modifications. We'll be looking at exactly the 16 GB iPhone 6s.

The main elements in the photo are highlighted in colors:

  • Red- Apple A9 processor. There is also RAM (Samsung 2 GB LPDDR4).
  • Orange- network modem (Qualcomm MDM9635M)
  • Yellow- combined gyroscope chip with 6-axis accelerometer (InvenSense MP67B)
  • Green- accelerometer on 3 axes (Bosch Sensortec 3P7)
  • The rest of the colors are used for the main amplifiers.

On the other side

  • Red- flash memory, it is also NAND flash (Toshiba THGBX5G7D2KLFXG 16 GB)
  • Orange- Wi-Fi module (USI 339S00043)
  • Blue- power controller (Qualcomm PMD9635)
  • Blue- audio codec (Cirrus Logic 338S00105)

Speaker

This speaker is also sometimes referred to as a "polyphonic speaker". Located at the bottom of the phone.

IPhones have only one bottom speaker. Many iPhones have 2 identical holes or grilles on the bottom, but only one speaker is hidden underneath. Under the other is a microphone.

Rear camera

This is the main camera in the phone. In the latest versions, it became known as iSight.

Comparison of rear cameras on all iPhone models

Battery

Batteries on iPhones differ greatly in capacity: from 1150 mAh to 2916 mAh.

How long does the battery last for different activities on all iPhone models up to 6 Plus.

Bottom train

The bottom cable houses the Lightning charging connector, headphone jack, microphone, antenna.

Until the 5th iPhone, the headphone jack was on another cable, at the top of the phone.

The iPhone 6s has two microphones on the bottom cable.

Home button

Center button, Home button.

The button is located on the ribbon cable with the connector. Starting with the iPhone 5s, it includes a Touch ID reader.

Perhaps today's comparison of iPhones 5 and 5S will not be at the right time, but it’s probably even more interesting, because so many years have passed since their release.

But despite this, many people love these iPhones and they are very interested in how exactly these two devices differ. Make yourself comfortable, because now it will be very interesting.

Comparison of iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S

The difference between the release date of these smartphones is about a year, and during this time the phone market has changed very dramatically. There were times when stats changed more dramatically.

In addition to this, Apple always likes to improve the next generation exactly twice, which, in principle, came with the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S.

At this stage, I propose to consider a small comparison table that I created:

As you can see, in terms of numbers, everything is not so scary, but let's find out how it all works in practice. There are differences and therefore we will analyze everything in order.

Difference between iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S

With the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S smartphones in their hands, some think that these are just two smartphones that Apple made. They are very different and now I will tell you why.

Appearance. So, there are cardinal changes in colors. In the first, we only have Silver and Black, while in the second, Space Gray, Silver and Gold appeared.

The case in the top five turned out to be the most successful, so many changed it after a year of use. Scratches and scuffs made it look awful.

If you pick up two phones in your hands, then the main differences are three things: color, flash and, of course, Touch ID in the form of a rim on the Home button.

Performance. The RAM remains the same and you can find 1 GB in both devices. At the time, that was more than enough.

But with the processor, the situation is more interesting. Apple first released a 64-bit processor that could process information twice as fast.

In practice, this is all very felt. It was not for nothing that Apple made a reserve for the future, because even after 3 years, the iPhone 5S works on the latest iOS very quickly and without lags. What can not be said about the iPhone 5.

Battery and camera. The characteristics of the cameras are almost the same, but there are a couple of changes that have made the quality of the photos much better.

Flash - in the first case it is single, in the second we already have a double, more modern one. Thanks to the combination of yellow and white LEDs, we get the best photos in the dark.

Slow motion mode is introduced, which helps to slow down the video and get incredibly cool work. It seems like a trifle, but sometimes it's nice to shoot something like that.

The front camera has hardly changed, maybe a little. And in practice: selfies are the same, the rear camera shoots a little better during daylight hours, and the flash is effective only at close range.

The rest of the chips. The biggest highlight of the iPhone 5S is Touch ID. The fingerprint scanner now allows you to unlock your phone and make online purchases with just the swipe of your finger.

What is better iPhone 5 or iPhone 5S?

So, given that at the moment both smartphones are already quite inexpensive, we can safely choose one of them.

If you have the end of 2016 or the beginning of 2017 in your yard, then it is best to take no lower than the iPhone 6. Everyone has already begun to get rid of the 5S for a long time, probably a year or two ago.

If the choice lies exactly between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S, then of course we choose the second option and now I'll tell you about the most important reasons.

  • twice as powerful;
  • the body is much more durable and more colors;
  • Touch ID is a trifle, but a pleasure to use;
  • a camera with a lot of possibilities.

It can serve you for a long time, even if it stops supporting the latest iOS. Just try not to upgrade to the next iOS right away without looking at the job reviews.

And I also want to advise fans of 4 inch iPhones to look at SE. After all, it is already starting to lose its value and is a very cool option.

conclusions

I hope I was able to help you decide between the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S. Now you know all the nuances about how exactly they differ.

Despite the fact that both of them came out a very long time ago, it was quite interesting for me to compare them. Legends always remain in the heart, because it is this line that will be remembered forever.

On Friday evening, the first copies of the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c were brought to Russia. One of the copies of the 5s fell into my hands. But I decided not to rush with the review, because it requires a fairly thorough acquaintance, which takes at least two weeks. But the iPhone 5s literally burned his hands, demanding to write something about himself. And we with the master Alexander Levchenko could not stand it, disassembling the poor fellow to the ground and comparing its components with analogues from previous generations. At the same time, we also appreciated the maintainability of the new item.

The disassembly technology itself, to the delight of the masters, has practically not changed. Certain difficulties do arise, but at a later stage. The main thing when removing the screen is not to forget about the thin ribbon that has appeared between the updated Home button with a Touch ID sensor and the Lightning connector. Otherwise, everything is as before.

Every iPhone with an S index is a bug fix. That is, everything is about the same, but better. This applies not only to characteristics, but also to the internal structure. At first glance, 5s and 5 are very similar. But a closer look reveals some pretty important things.

Here's a trifle - instead of two parts, they began to use one. But it looks sleeker, the rigidity of the structure is higher, and the assembler is more comfortable.

Left iPhone 5s, right iPhone 5

The screen itself, as before, is supplied assembled, and a crack in the glass leads to the replacement of the entire structure. Considering that the characteristics of the screen have not changed, one can hope to maintain the same price tag - about $ 200.

Some structural elements are now easier to remove than before. For example, it is much easier to get to the 5s camera than to its predecessor in the “five”. The interface connectors are also located a little more freely, it is more convenient for assembly and repair.

iPhone 5s on the right

iPhone 5s at the bottom

The camera module, despite the increased size of the sensor, has remained quite compact.

Yes, and against the background of its predecessors, it does not look like a giant.

From left to right main cameras of iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 3GS

The quality of the pictures has not yet been compared, it takes time.

Let's pay attention to the loops. They also periodically fail, especially with our temperature drops.
The top train, with almost identical functionality, has become noticeably wider. Again, it is more convenient in assembly, more reliable in operation.

The bottom cable, which houses the Lightning connector, has become noticeably more complex, because now it also serves the Touch ID sensor in the Home button.

Left iPhone 5s, right iPhone 5.

It is impossible to replace it in parts, only assembled. Previously, the replacement cost about 2,500 rubles. How much it will cost now - I don’t know yet. But, most likely, the price will rise by at least 50%. Because the part is more expensive and there is more work.

And here is the updated Home itself

Previously, it was changed for 2,200 rubles. It's hard to even imagine a new price tag. According to the most optimistic estimates - from 5000.
For a long time, only very advanced masters have been undertaking to repair the motherboard in the iPhone. It seems that in the case of 5s, they will begin to refuse and they are, painfully, everything is densely located. And changing it is comparable in price to a new device. However, something really bad usually happens to her only after swimming in earthenware containers and in the sea.

During the disassembly, we had a unique opportunity to compare motherboards of all generations of iPhone. Here they are, beauties. Moore's Law in one picture.

Left to right: 5s, 5, 4s, 4, 3gs, 3g. Above is the board of the very first iPhone.

An unpleasant surprise awaits us when we try to replace the battery. It is very firmly glued to the bottom lid, and it is almost impossible to remove it at home, it requires heating with a hairdryer and neat "picking out". The very fact of replacing the battery after that is already impossible to hide, no matter how hard you try. This is noticeable both on the lid and on the battery.

The battery itself is a little more capacious, which is good news. Of course, it is far from the flagships of Sony and LG, but perhaps the more energy-efficient Apple A7 processor will be enough for that. The price of the battery itself will remain at the same level, but given the increased complexity of work, more may be charged for replacement. For replacing the battery in the "five" they took 2000, now, I think, they will raise the price tag to three.

Left iPhone 5, right iPhone 5s

The Wi-Fi antenna has grown noticeably. It seems that in the previous version, the iPhone was able to catch networks normally. But now it looks like it will be quite good. You can check it in the field, it hasn't come to that yet.

IPhone 5s at the top, iPhone 5 at the bottom

The polyphonic speaker of the 5s (pictured on the left) has become a little smaller, and at the same time the body has also decreased. The sound from this did not become quieter and worse. The price, one must think, will not change much (in the "five" it was changed for 3,000 rubles).

Outwardly, it almost does not differ from its predecessor, only larger (in the photo on the left).

But on the back it has not two contacts, like the absolute majority of analogs in devices of any brand, but as many as four! Why so much is not clear. It seems to have no additional functionality. Well, given the uniqueness, the price tag will surely jump when replacing - from the current two thousand to three, or so.

Overall, the work of Apple engineers continues to inspire strong respect. People are constantly improving the design, taking care of its convenience and reliability. Do not forget about the appearance of the electronic filling, as the great Jobs bequeathed. None of the business colleagues have yet reached such rigor and thoughtfulness. But the fact that it is becoming more and more difficult to repair the device ... In countries that are not as creative as Russia, the deceased iPhone is either replaced under warranty (free or extended), or sent to a large service center with special equipment. We also have such, and 5s does not seem to scare them. And the clever guys in the "Repair of watches, cell phones and key making" stall, of course, will have a hard time ...

I answer in advance a question that is ripening among many: the device was safely assembled back, everything is fine with it. Getting ready for this review.

The main complaint about the iPhone 5 was the quality of the case: it scratched, bent, and even crumbled. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 5C received special attention to the case. In fact, the "budget iPhone" has replaced its predecessor in the retail line. For the first time in history, the most secret Foxconn Taiyuan factory has slightly opened the curtain of "apple cuisine".

The process of manufacturing the case for the iPhone 5C

IPhone 5C body material is polycarbonate. It is a hard, colorless polymer plastic that is famous for its plasticity, durability and resistance to low temperatures. But this material has one drawback: excessive flexibility and, as a consequence, a low coefficient of strength. Apple solved the problem by introducing a steel frame to the inner panel of the case.

It is designed not only to provide the necessary margin of safety, but is also the home of a multi-frequency antenna. Jonathan Ive clarifies the situation:

“The introduction of an iron plate allows for optimal body rigidity. iPhone 5C doesn't feel like other plastic devices "

During the production process, laser engraving is applied to the inside of the case, indicating the personal model number.

The back panel of the case is covered with a special protective varnish, which not only prevents scuffs and scratches, but also gives iPhone 5C a unique shine.

What's left behind the scenes? Direct introduction of the internal contents of the device: chips and microcircuits. And also the installation of a state-of-the-art display with Gorilla Glass, which has no equal in terms of wear resistance according to the statement of Apple engineers.

Literally in the first days after the release of the fifth series of iPhone, a lot of crash tests appeared on the network. The world community became interested: "Is 5C so good?" And we can confirm that the body of the "budget iPhone" stoically endured the beatings along with its "brother in arms" - the 5S. Both models received only minor damage to the sidewalls of the case when falling "on the edge". But the 5S screen is more fortunate than the 5C. Perhaps an accident, and perhaps a pattern.

Despite the obvious advantages of the 5C, Apple has cut the release of this model by a third. The reason is simple: there are fewer and fewer orders from suppliers. The $ 100 discount turned out to be unattractive for fans of apple technology. Lawrence Belter (Lead Analyst at Oracle Investment Research) sums it up:

“Apple customers are looking forward to a unique elite product. 5c is a failed attempt to make the iPhone a consumer product "

Should I judge 5C so harshly? Not sure. Analysts at iSuppli conducted an experiment to disassemble new iPhone models in order to maximize their differences. 5S advantages:

  • aluminium case
  • advanced camera
  • fingerprint sensor (Touch ID)
  • new energy saving memory chips

Do I need to overpay for 5S newcomers? Or is the letter adjacent to the "five" a matter of prestige? Let everyone answer these questions for themselves.

Interesting iPhone Manufacturing Facts:

  • It takes 141 sequential steps to assemble one iPhone.
  • In one work shift, about 3,000 iPhone backs are passed through the hands of an assembler.
  • The production of one IPhone 5C costs the company $ 170-180 (depending on the amount of memory)
  • The iPhone 5 has become the most sophisticated technical device ever assembled at a Foxconn factory.

There is very little time left before the start of the official sales of the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S in Russia. On October 20, AppStore stores will give out branded boxes to the first lucky ones. Most of the "apple lovers" froze in anticipation and only a few are already sharing photos of new products from Apple in instagram. Which one to give preference: ultra-modern 5S or rainbow 5C?
