Good bad

VPN is The best way bypass the blocking of sites that the provider has blocked. You can also hide information about yourself, change the IP address and transfer data in encrypted form. But for ordinary users, VPN is primarily an opportunity to visit sites that have been blocked and inaccessible in a particular country.

I came across this in my own experience. I tested various VPN extensions (add-ons) for the four most popular browsers: Opera, Google Chrome, Yandex Browser and Firefox. I decided to share with you this useful information... Below we will look at the best (in my opinion), free (though not all) VPN add-ons for browsers. I will also show you how to find and install them in each browser. After installing and activating these extensions, you will be able to visit blocked sites, social networks (VKontakte, Odnoklassniki) and other resources.

A free VPN can't be great. It is slow and unstable. Unfortunately, this is so. Especially in our time, when these free services fell down huge pressure... For permanent use, a free VPN is not suitable. I think you have already seen this.

Better, of course, to buy some kind of paid VPN.

A few words about what a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is and how it works. This is a virtual private network. If this does not mean anything to you, now I will try to explain it in simple language. There are many VPN services, both free and paid. Using some kind of VPN service (configured via browser extension, program for PC, Android, iOS), all our traffic goes through the server of this service. There can be a lot of such servers, in each country and several pieces (it all depends on the specific VPN service).

We get the IP address of the server through which we connect. This allows us to go to blocked sites, since we change our location on the network, connecting through a server installed in another country (where certain sites are not blocked)... All data that we transmit or receive is encrypted. Which gives us additional protection, especially when connecting via open wifi networks.

Sometimes, the security of using a VPN can be deceiving. Since all our traffic goes through the servers of some company, there is always a risk that this company will use the information that passes through its servers. Therefore, I advise you to use only the time-tested and most popular VPN browser extensions. I will talk about these in this article.

It's simple: if in your country the provider has blocked access to some sites (for example, as now VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, Yandex and Mail.ru are blocked in Ukraine), then we just install the VPN add-on in our browser, turn it on and we can go to the sites to which we have restricted access.

Free VPN for Opera Browser

First of all, I'll tell you about the solution for the Opera browser. For the reason that I myself use this browser, and in this regard it is the best. Why? But because Opera does not need to install any third-party extensions to visit blocked sites. Opera has its own built-in free VPN that works just fine!

All we need is to install the latest browser version. Then go to "Menu" - "Settings", to the "Security" tab, and check the box next to "Enable VPN".

All that remains is to turn on the VPN, and you can go to the sites that your Internet provider has blocked.

You can change the virtual location. But I advise you to leave the "Optimal location".

The developers of the Opera browser are certainly great. Not only is the service free, but also with unlimited traffic and speed. And it is very convenient to use it. And most importantly, a company like Opera can be trusted. Anyway, it's better than some VPN services that were created a couple of days ago.

If you use the Opera browser, then the issue of bypassing the blocking of sites for you, I think, is solved.

Advice! If it is not very important for you which browser to use, then you can install Opera and visit the necessary sites through its VPN. In order not to search and install third-party extensions in other browsers.

There are many different VPN extensions for the Google Chrome browser. They can be found and installed from official store... Let me first show you how extensions are installed in the Chrome browser, and then I'll show you a few specific extensions that I personally tested in my work.

Open the menu, go to "More Tools" and select "Extensions". Then, at the bottom, click on "More extensions".

A new tab will open with a store of various add-ons for the Chrome browser. You can simply search for a VPN, and we will receive a list of required extensions.

It is enough to click on the "Install" button, and the extension will be installed in the browser. Then, its icon will appear next to the "Menu" button.

Some VPN extensions for Chrome:

I tried many different ones. Each has its drawbacks. In any case, the download speed may slow down.

Installing VPN in Yandex Browser

First, update your browser to latest version... In Yandex Browser, you can install add-ons, among which there are VPN services.

To install an add-on, open the menu, then select "Add-ons". Scroll down the page and click on the "Directory of extensions for Yandex Browser" button.

In the search we enter "vpn". A list of the add-ons we need will appear.

To install what you need, select it and click on the "Add to Yandex Browser" button. I recommend trying: Hola Better Internet, ZenMate VPN, TunnelBear, DotVPN - better than VPN. After installation, the extension icon will appear next to address bar(on right) . Most likely, you will need to run the VPN in the add-on settings.

Installing friGate in Yandex Browser

I think this is the best solution. Everything works well, and it is possible to open through VPN only some of the sites that are blocked. You can create lists and add your sites there. Many blocked sites are added by default. Installing friGate as described above will fail. You need to download the extension file and install it.

friGate can be installed and configured in other browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Chrome.

VPN add-ons for Mozilla Firefox browser

V Mozilla browser Firefox can also install the required extension. Or configure friGate, which I wrote about above (link is also above).

We go to the "Menu" - "Add-ons".

On the extension tab, in the search bar, write "vpn", or the name of a specific extension.

You can go to full list extensions by clicking on the corresponding link below.

I have checked Hotspot Shield Free VPN Proxy, Hoxx VPN Proxy, ZenMate Security and Privacy & Unblock VPN.

Hotspot Shield works right after booting and turning on. Registration is required for Hoxx and ZenMate.

After installing VPN, blocked sites will open in Mozilla Firefox. If you don't like the download speed, or the stability of the work, you can try another add-on.

Afterword

Don't get carried away with installing everything. Remember, this may not be safe! Look at the rating, reviews, the number of installations of the extension.

Of the free solutions, my favorite is the built-in VPN in Opera browser, and friGate, which can be installed in almost every browser.

Whichever VPN service you use, this has its disadvantages and inconveniences. You need to follow him (enable or disable), the speed may also drop, ping. It is possible that the server through which you are connecting may fail.

Don't forget to write comments. Share your advice, opinion, and ask questions.

22.03.2017

In addition to partial anonymity, when using the VPN extension, it is possible to access blocked sites in your own country. But as elsewhere, there are also disadvantages, including the speed of the Internet connection, depending on the distance of the country to which the server is connected.

Program or extension

For use, you can use both specialized utilities and browser extensions. Here, the whole choice lies in the personal desire of each user. In specialized utilities there are a lot of different settings, and extensions are designed to be used in "one click". Let's consider all the options in more detail.
In order to use the VPN extension, you need to find and install it:

Method 1: Unlimited Free VPN - Hola

One of the most popular free extensions, due to its simplicity, it is used by many Internet users. Traffic is encrypted here, and all data is cached in order to increase the speed of the Internet connection and transmission over the network. In simple language- the more users in your region who use this extension, the faster the connection speed will be. One of the advantages is the large number of servers.

Usage:

Method 2: Touch VPN

Free extension, but only 4 servers: Canada, USA, Denmark and France. Due to the fact that there are fewer countries, the connection speed will accordingly be lower if a large number of people connect to one server.

Usage:

Method 3: TunnelBear VPN

Using this extension, you will get safe and fast surfing. Servers are located in one of 15 countries. To use this extension, you need to create free account, which is given 500 MB of traffic per month.

Usage:

Method 4: VPN from HideMy

Chromebook users can connect to a private network remotely (for example, at school or work) using a VPN connection.

Note. If you have any problems with VPN setup on your work or school Chromebook, ask your administrator for help.

Restrictions. Chromebooks do not support IKEv2, XAUTH, or non-L2TP IPsec.

How to create a connection

How to connect to a VPN

Split and full tunneling

Typically, full tunneling is used for VPNs. In this case, all traffic from Chrome windows as well as Chrome apps and Android goes through the VPN connection. With split tunneling, some sites are accessed through a physical network connection Chromebook devices. This configuration is suitable in the following cases:

  • If the VPN assumes access only to internal sites.
  • When connecting to a VPN, you need to interact with devices on your local network, such as printers.

Split tunneling can be configured in many VPN apps for Chrome and Android, as well as the built-in OpenVPN client. To do this,

Today, the acronym VPN can be heard literally on every corner. Services, browser plugins and even routers with a VPN connection option are emerging. Many users use a VPN connection to access sites that are blocked in the country. Others use it to improve overall Internet security. However, most VPN users do not know how it works.

VPN technology in simple terms

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. Let's take a closer look at this definition. We will start from the word Private, which is the main one in this term. It implies that:

The VPN connection is secure, private and is created personally for the user with the help of some virtual servers... Information passes through this server and then gets to the user without the ability to track it. It can be compared to a car hiding in a tunnel with many exits. An outside observer does not see where this car is going inside the tunnel, and cannot figure out exactly where it will leave.

There is usually no need to use a VPN connection all the time. It slows down your network speed, so it's best to turn on your VPN before accessing a site where you want to remain anonymous.

What is such a secure connection used for:

I would like to talk about whether it violates using a VPN laws of Russia. In fact, of course not. And it's not even that a VPN can be used for a variety of purposes, and not just to access prohibited sites. The technology for blocking sites in Russia is imperfect. Quite recently, my provider closed access to many sites that they did not even think to prohibit, they came under attack by accident. Other users faced the same problem. In this case, VPN, although it was used to bypass the blocking, allowed access to services, including those for which people paid their money (for example, to the Playstation Network service). Maybe someday the very use of a VPN will be banned, but I hope it will not come to that. With regard to access to sites that are prohibited in our country, I in no way urge anyone to use loopholes in the system. The purpose of this article is to educate people about VPNs, not teach them how to bypass official bans.

VPN in Google Chrome

Some browsers have the option to enable VPN by default, but Google Chrome is not one of them. To use a VPN connection in this browser, you need to install one of the popular custom extensions.

One of the benefits of using VPN extensions is that they don't have any special technical requirements. If it works for you google browser Chrome, VPN extensions will also work correctly.

VPN extensions for Google Chrome

  1. After opening the browser, find and click on the icon with three horizontal stripes in the corner of the screen.

Click on the button with three bars to open the drop-down menu

  2. Go to the Tools or Tools section.
  3. Then select Extensions.

  7. The extension is installed in your browser.

ZenMate

The ZenMate browser extension offers easy access to VPN servers... V demon paid version extensions, you can choose a server in one of four countries. If you have a paid premium account, the choice will increase to thirty. The extension requires a simple registration after being added to the browser:

This extension has only one major drawback. The servers in the free version are often overloaded, so the connection speed may not be good at all. The paid version of the extension does not have this problem, although the speed decreases, but the Internet works fine.

In the paid version of ZenMate extension, the internet speed is higher

Hola VPN

The Hola service was quite popular at the time. Easy installation of the extension, completely free access to servers. But, unfortunately, the developers turned out to be not the most honest people. The fact is that the Hola service not only opened a VPN connection to the user, but also installed malware on the computer, used user traffic for DDOS attacks, and had other hidden and unpleasant effects. Now the rating of this service on most sites is very low.

Hola extension has been found to be dangerous for users

Browsec

Next in line is the Browsec service. He's totally on English language... The paid version starts at 220 rubles per month. In the free version, you can choose a server from one of four countries, and in the paid version - from twenty-four. This extension is doing well with protecting user traffic: it hides the user's IP address, encrypts his data, and helps bypass blocking.

Installing this extension is very simple:

The downside of this extension is the complete lack of information about its developers. The entire privacy policy remains hidden, and no one guarantees that the situation with the Hola extension will not happen again here. On the other hand, so far the developers have not given any cause for alarm. This is a good free extension with no traffic limit.

An extension made by developers in Hong Kong that allows you to connect to multiple servers in a dozen countries. The price of the paid version is from 300 rubles per month. There is no Russian language. The following advantages of this service can be distinguished:

There are also disadvantages:

  • from time to time the service crashes regardless of its version;
  • data encryption is not performed, that is, the service allows you to bypass locks, but does not guarantee the protection of information.

This extension requires registration before use, it is extremely simple. It is enough to enter the address Email and then confirm the registration via an inbound email.

TouchVPN

This extension stands out for being completely free. There are no subscriptions, premium versions, and the like. You just install the extension and you can use the VPN connection unlimitedly. In addition, there are other advantages:

The only disadvantages are the lack of support for the Russian language, but in the case of this expansion, this is not at all scary.

Video: How to Use TouchVPN

Using a VPN is practically a necessity today. It is important to choose a reliable extension for your VPN connection, as the safety of your private information depends on it. After the correct choice has been made, the connection will be anonymous and there will be no more problems with inaccessible sites.
