By default, the new Windows 10 OS uses the "Photos" application (or "Photos") instead of the standard viewer (which was in Windows XP and 7). On the one hand, it has somewhat richer functionality, but on the other hand, it is not so convenient (and requires a habit 👀).

In general, in this post we will consider how you can restore the "old" way of viewing photos in the "new" OS (just like in the joke: "We used to live well, now it's even better! But still, I want to live well again ...").

How to return the standard viewer

First you need to open Windows 10 settings (you can use the link in START, or the combination of buttons Win + i).

Then you should go to the section "Default Applications" , find a subtitle "Viewing Photos" and click on the selection button ... (for an example, see the screenshot below).

Important! If you do not have the "View Windows photos"- you need to add some parameters to the registry. You can do this using a special file - (packed in a Zip archive using WinRAR).

Now if you click double click for any of the photos - it should automatically open in the good old viewer (as in the example below).

I can't help but note that some file formats (mostly less common) can keep opening in the app "Photo" ... To fix this, click right click mouse on such a file and open it properties .

After specifying such settings, all files of the same format will open in the selected application.

By the way, in my humble opinion, it is much better to use a special viewer, for example, ACDSee, to work with pictures and photographs.

Judge for yourself, firstly, it supports almost all graphics formats; secondly, it allows you to view photos in archives (without extracting them); thirdly, in it you can change and process pictures using the built-in editor. However, it also has analogues. (see link to article below).
