Introduction

A brand new Ascend G630 smartphone from a major Chinese manufacturer Huawei has appeared in Russia. I think that the name of the model should make it clear that the device belongs to the middle price category, but considering the cost (10,000 rubles), it would be more correct to say that the G630 is in the lower middle price category. To date, the device can be bought so far only in the showrooms of one federal retail network. I am sure when Ascend will be available in more points of sale cell phones, then the price will drop decently.

From the point of view of technical characteristics, the device is quite ordinary: 4 cores (though not from the usual MediaTek, but from Qualcomm), a 5-inch screen with HD resolution, an 8-megapixel camera, and so on. However, based on personal experience, I know that Huawei has high-quality and solid gadgets, so sometimes it's worth a little overpay.

Design, dimensions, controls

Smartphone Ascend G630 looks absolutely typical for Huawei products and, unfortunately, resembles some gadgets from Alcatel, for example, OneTouch POP C9. In general, we must admit that now almost all phones are similar to each other.

I will not dwell on the design for a long time, it is classic: a rectangular shape, a plastic silver frame along the edge, the usual dimensions for a 5-inch smartphone.

The front panel is protected by durable glass; during the month of using the G630, it was not scratched, no chips were found. The surface probably has an oleophobic coating, as there are practically no fingerprints left. The tactile sensations are also pleasant, the finger glides easily on the glass. In the Svyaznoy retail network, the G630 is sold only in black, but ours turned out to be white: the front part, rear panel- light, edging around the perimeter - chrome-plated plastic insert. It should be noted that the back panel is made of porous plastic. True, it is slightly slippery to the touch, but the device does not fall out of the hands.

The dimensions of the G630, as already mentioned, are usual (143x71.7 mm), but the thickness was pleasantly surprised: only 7.8 mm, which is quite good for this class of devices. But the weight could have been less - 165 grams still pulls off a shirt pocket. In summer, both the weight and the dimensions of the phone are especially relevant.

The body of the smartphone is perfectly assembled: no squeaks, backlash, or pushing the cover to the battery. Does not crunch when twisted.

In general, it seems to me, in terms of design ergonomics and appearance Huawei Ascend The G630 turned out to be quite successful.

Above the center of the phone's front panel is the earpiece covered with a thin silver metal mesh. The speaker volume is high, the frequency range is slightly shifted in low frequencies, therefore, sometimes the interlocutor is not very intelligible, even boomy.

To the left of the speaker are the light and proximity sensors, to the right is the front camera and the indicator of missed events (blinking green), and it also signals the battery charge / discharge.

Traditionally, under the screen there are touch buttons "Back", "Home", "Menu". Engraved with silver paint, no backlighting. The touch layer behaves ambiguously: it works at once, then you have to click on the buttons again.

On top of the end there is a 3.5 mm audio output, and on the bottom is the main microphone and micro-USB. There are no elements on the left, on the right are the power and volume buttons. They are thin, the surface is embossed (thin transverse notches). It is relatively convenient to use, since I prefer the classic arrangement: the volume rocker on the left, the power supply on the top right.

The camera window, framed by a metal ring, a flash, a second microphone and a speaker are located on the back of the smartphone.

To open the cover, you must pry it off at the lower right corner. Below it on the left are two microSIM slots, above it is a microSD memory card slot.

Display

By modern standards, the screen diagonal of the Huawei Ascend G630 smartphone is standard and is 5 inches. Its physical size is 62x110 mm. The resolution is also typical for devices that cost more than 9,000 rubles - HD, that is, 720x1280 pixels, while the density is 293 pixels per inch. With such a diagonal and with such a resolution, the picture looks good, at least with FullHD the difference by eye is minimal. In such situations, the quality of the matrix plays an important role. The G630 has a mid-level IPS: slightly yellow at one angle, very violet at another - a common thing.

The brightness of the screen matrix backlight is adjusted either automatically or manually. Its level is not high. If the maximum value is enough indoors and during the day, then in the sun things are much worse. Oddly enough, but in the cheaper Huawei 3C, the matrix, in my opinion, looks better: it is a little more colorful, the backlight brightness is higher, it behaves better in the sun, there is a mirror substrate. Below is a comparison (left 3C, right G630)

The capacitive touch layer works out up to 10 simultaneous touches. The sensitivity is excellent.

Battery

This phone model uses a non-removable lithium ion battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh. Model G630-U10. According to official information, the device lives for about 10 hours of talk time and up to 600 hours of standby time.

  • Playback of 720p video (MP4) at maximum screen brightness and volume in headphones - approximately 4 hours
  • Browsing over Wi-Fi - about 18 hours
  • Browsing via 3G - about 10 hours
  • The total average operating time of the device (3G, calls, SMS, letters, twitter) is about 15 hours.

Overall, the Huawei Ascend G630 performed well given the low battery capacity. In the Antutu tester test, the battery gains 421 points.

There are several power saving modes in the settings:

  • Normal... Maximum productivity
  • Clever... Automatic, automatically adjusts the load of the processor and network
  • Energy saving... Limiting processor frequency and optimizing network performance

Below you can see which programs consume the most energy. In the menu there is a level of energy consumption by software and hardware, a display of the remaining time (calls, networking, video, reading books, listening to music). All this, of course, is cool, but it is rational when the battery in the device is still more than 2000 mAh. And so, what's the difference that there are these parameters, the gadget still sits down faster than you can remember about these modes.

Communication capabilities

With this section, everything is simple. The device is equipped with two sim cards: one slot works only in 2G, the other - 2G / 3G. There is Wi-Fi b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.0 + EDR, GPS / A-GPS. In general, everything is as always.

The GPS sensitivity seemed weak to me. For example, near a window, the device hardly finds a pair of satellites in 1 minute, and in an open space - 5-6 in 40 seconds.

Memory and memory card

Inside the smartphone there is 1 GB of RAM, free, in my opinion, is not enough - only about 300 MB. Many "eat" all sorts of settings, services, widgets. Built-in Flash memory 4 GB. Of these, approximately 900 MB for data storage and the same for applications. But count on 300-400MB. In my sample, there was no item in the settings for transferring programs from internal memory on the card. Therefore, after installing several applications, the G630 ran out of memory. However, some games can be installed on microSD.

Camera

This model uses two camera modules: the main one for 8 MP, and for the "selfie" - for 1.3 MP. According to the official website of Huawei, the aperture of the main camera lens is F2.0. It is likely that it is. But it seemed to me that the module is cheap, so the photos come out of extremely average quality: a lot of noise, not the best sharpness (sometimes lathers around the edges), the auto white balance often gets lost. The only plus is the ability to set the maximum shutter speed (for example, 1/10 of a second). Along with an open "hole", good night shots come out. The camera focuses quickly and accurately.

The minimum shutter speed is 1/5000, the maximum is 1/10. The minimum ISO is 100, the maximum is 1500.

The front camera takes normal quality photos. Average sharpness.

The device records video in HD-resolution at 30 fps (both the main camera and the front one). Qualcomm is again to blame: not only does the Snapdragon 200 not pull FullHD, but also when you move the camera, strong artifacts appear in the form of squares.

Interface

In the camera settings:

  • Shooting by touch
  • Activating voice capture
  • GPS tag
  • Photo size

  • Image Adjustment
  • Storage

Video file characteristic:

  • File format: 3GP
  • Video codec: AVC, 6 Mbps
  • Resolution: 1280 x 720, 30 fps
  • Audio codec: AAC, 128 Kbps
  • Channels: 1 channel, 48 kHz

Performance and software platform

Usually, when you read about a device and see a Qualcomm chipset there, the mood rises, it seems that you will have the fastest device in your hands. However, upon closer examination, it turns out that the simplest Snapdragon is inside.

The same happened with the Huawei G630. It seems to be Qualcomm, but only MSM8212 - 4 cores at 1.2 GHz, 45 nm process technology, Adreno 302 is responsible for the graphics. In general, something in between 8225Q and 8210. That's why we get HD recording instead of FullHD, slowdown in the menu and in some applications. But many toys go without problems, for example, Dead Trigger 2 at full power. In fact, the Snadragon 200 is one of Qualcomm's most unsuccessful series. Only the old dual-core MediaTek is worse than it.

Screenshots from the game Dead Trigger 2:

short info and performance tests (Quadrant Standart, Antutu BenchMark):

Multimedia

Instead of a nice standard application for playing music, they began to use a standard Android player. Speaker volume speakerphone relatively high, but average quality. If you close the speaker hole, the volume level will drop to zero.

The sound volume in the headphones is also high, the quality is good: pleasant mids, slightly muffled highs and pronounced lows. Still, I would advise music lovers to install another music player unless you use Google Music, of course.

There is an FM radio. There is nothing to tell about him, everything is familiar. Works only with connected headphones, which will act as an antenna.

The video player does not understand MKV format although most are more budget smartphones on MTK it is easy to "pull" it. It copes with FullHD resolution (for playback), but if the file has a bit rate above 10 Mbps, slowdowns will appear.

Conclusion

In my subjective opinion, the Huawei Ascend G630 is a little overrated. Probably due to the chipset from Qualcomm. For example, Huawei Honor 3C costs a couple of thousand less, while it has better screen, more capacious battery, less lags, in the end it looks more interesting.

It has no obvious disadvantages, but neither does it have any cool chips. In all respects, a mediocre smartphone with a high price tag for this brand.

There are many competitors, the main one is Huawei Honor 3C. We will have a review of it shortly. You can still take a closer look at Motorola moto G, Sony Xperia SP, Highscreen Spider, you can search Samsung Galaxy S III or choose a smartphone from many other B-brands without taking into account the Android 4.3 version.

Lyrical introduction

Imagine if you wanted to buy yourself a five-inch smartphone with a decent screen and a quad-core processor. Would you be very surprised if you find that a certain manufacturer has two such devices? With the same (judging by the description) cameras, with similar batteries. And even at about the same price.

I was surprised. And quite. However, the casket, as it turned out, opens quite simply. Honor series models are now marketed by Huawei as a separate brand. At least somewhere out there, at home. Well, the fact that the two brands have close competing models is no longer surprising.

As luck would have it, Huawei Ascend G630 and Huawei Honor 3C fell into my hands at the same time. And it turned out to be very interesting to compare them face to face.

The smartphones came to me from a PR agency that works with Huawei. What is a little strange, it seems that these are a little different devices that are officially supplied to our market. Honor 3C in all official deliveries, as far as I can see, is listed as Dark Gray, i.e. dark grey. Mine is with a perfectly white back and black front. And for some reason, my Ascend G630 has a two-SIM card ... However, little things.

Internals (iron)

Who's cooler? A quad-core MediaTek MT6582 running the Honor 3C or a quad-core Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 from Qualcomm?

The characteristics of MediaTek MT6582 are well known to everyone. Here we have 4 Cortex-A7 processor cores with a frequency of up to 1.3 GHz and a Mali-400MP2 video accelerator.

Snapdragon MSM8212 is known a little less so far. If I understand correctly, there are the same Cortex-A7 processor cores (with a slightly lower operating frequency - up to 1.2 GHz), but the video is different - Adreno 305.

Actually, horseradish radish is not sweeter. The devices are very close in terms of operating speed. This is confirmed by both synthetic tests and my tests for performing all sorts of elementary actions. Well, yes, Honor in Antutu parrots looks a little better overall. But not enough to be taken into account. Some other benchmarks favor the Ascend G630.

What's much more interesting than chipsets and the number of cores is the size of the RAM. And Honor 3C has twice as much of it - 2 GB versus one for Ascend. Taking into account the fact that in both cases half a gig is eaten by the system and the shell, the available RAM for the user in Honor 3C is already three times more - 1500 MB versus 500 MB. And this is a weighty argument.

Flash memory. Everything is complicated and everything is different. Both devices have support for Micro-SD memory cards. But the built-in memory of the Honor 3C that came to me was 8 GB. And the Ascend G630 has 4 GB. At the same time, the Svyaznoy website in the characteristics of the Ascend G630 says about the same 8 GB as Honor. But there is only one SIM card - it looks like two varieties of the same model. And this model is not sold in any other stores.

Both smartphones handle flash memory, in my opinion, very so-so. Look. As they say, both options are worse.

The sensors are approximately equally clear, there are no problems with them. The oleophobic coating is of average quality and is also about the same.

Batteries

The battery capacity is slightly larger for the Honor 3C - 2300 mAh versus 2000 mAh for the Huawei Ascend G630. So it's not surprising that Honor's test results are on average a little better, either - 136% versus 120% relative to the standard for which I traditionally consider the Samsung Galaxy S4.

However, I recommend looking at the table with the results a little. She's pretty funny. As you can see, Honor 3C did not win in all tests. Lost in the easy video, but won in the heavy video. There was a beat on a light toy, but it showed itself much better when working as a navigator.

In general, a fighting draw. I have diagnosed both smartphones with reasonable but not outstanding battery life.

Some photos taken by Honor 3C:

The front camera is also better on the Honor 3C. A relatively fair five megapixels. Of course, this is a purely "selfie camera", with a fixed focus, which is clearly not focused at infinity. So don't expect to be able to capture landscapes with it.

The Ascend G630 has a modest one megapixel front.

Which at that time was quite an interesting model. Today, its successor, Huawei G630, got to our test. Let's see if Huawei has made the new model better.

Huawei G630 looks pretty familiar. Due to the large bezels around the 5-inch screen, it cannot be called compact, but it is not a giant either. The dimensions of the smartphone are 143 × 71.7 × 7.8 mm, and the weight is 165 grams. Compared to its predecessor Huawei G610, the hero of the review became thinner by 2 mm and lost 5 grams of weight.

The front side of the smartphone is covered protective glass, at the top of which there is an earpiece, a 1 megapixel front camera, an LED for missed events and proximity and lighting sensors. There are three hardware touch keys under the screen.

On the sides of the case, there are volume and power buttons on the right, a 3.5 mm audio jack on top and a microUSB port with a main microphone on the bottom. On the back side there is a main 8 megapixel camera lens with flash, an additional microphone and a multimedia speaker.

Removing the cover reveals two micro-SIM slots and a microSD card slot. The battery in this model is not removable.

In terms of ease of use, everything is familiar and quite convenient for a smartphone with a 5-inch screen. Of course, the frames around the screen are quite impressive, but here you already need to understand what is in front of us available device, not a flagship. Mechanical control keys are located where needed, while they have a noticeable soft travel.

The back cover in the white version of the smartphone is matte, so fingerprints are not visible on it, but scratches can be seen only at a certain angle. Since there is no oleophobic coating, the screen becomes very dirty and very difficult to clean.

Operating system and shell

Huawei G630 runs an operating room Android systems 4.3 with preinstalled shell EmotionUI 2.0 Lite. Although the shell is somewhat limited, it is still highly customizable.

You can choose the effect of flipping the desktop, select and change the theme. If all this is not interesting, you can activate the "Simple Screen" mode. In this mode appearance the desktop is greatly modified and simplified.

If we talk about the smoothness of work, then in most cases the interface is quite smooth, but when entering the folders, the animation is often displayed in jerks. Otherwise, everything is quite cheerful and lively.

Hardware platform

The heart of the smartphone is a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 MSM8212 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. The video accelerator is played by Adreno 302.

Unfortunately, we are already facing a somewhat outdated processor, since all four cores are built using ARM Cortex-A7 technology. It is also worth considering that this chip supports a maximum display resolution of 720p (HD). The amount of RAM is 1 GB, of which only 250 MB is available. The built-in memory is only 4 GB, but the user gets only 1.86 GB. It is possible to expand it by using microSD memory cards. Fortunately, you can choose the default memory to use.

The results of synthetic tests are not high, but this is not surprising. On the other hand, there are no critical remarks in terms of performance. The speed of the smartphone will satisfy the non-demanding user.

The performance of the smartphone is sufficient to run games and applications. We even ran Real Racing 3, but the graphics settings were far from maximum. In more simple games no problems were noticed.

Working with wireless networks and navigation did not cause any complaints. Everything works fast. Also worth noting is a good earpiece and microphone. But with the multimedia speaker located on the back, not everything is so smooth, despite the fact that it is loud. The main complaint is its actual location, because when the phone is on the table, the speaker is completely blocked, which makes the sound much quieter. Working with two cards is organized in a standard way, nothing special.

We organized the verification of support for popular audio and video codecs according to the old method. As a result, it turned out that with the support of video codecs, everything is more or less good, but for greater convenience it is worth installing a third-party player, since the standard one is very simple.

Autonomy

The capacity of the non-removable battery is 2000 mAh, which is not very much, but here it is worth considering that the processor is not the most productive inside the smartphone. If you use your smartphone intensively with wireless networks on all the time, then the device will be asked to charge the next day, and if you restrict use and turn it off wireless networks, then you can safely count on two days of work.

Screen

Despite the fact that we have an affordable device, the manufacturer did not save on the screen. As a result, we get a 5-inch IPS screen with HD resolution. Of course, the oleophobic coating had to be sacrificed, but there is an automatic brightness control sensor.

The brightness range of the screen ranges from 348 cd / m² at maximum backlight and 16.1 cd / m² at minimum. The display contrast is 1: 604. These indicators are at an average level, but, despite this, you can see the information on the screen on the street.

We checked the factory calibration of the screen and we can say that the temperature is almost reference, but the gamma curve is somewhat broken, but is within acceptable limits.

Subjectively, the display can be called quite good, especially if we take into account the resolution and the sensor for automatic brightness control, because in other parameters it is quite average.

Cameras

Huawei G630 has two cameras - a front one with 1 megapixel and a main one with 8 megapixels. The quality of photos taken with the front camera is only suitable for Skype. The main camera in this regard is much more interesting, while you need to take into account that there is no abundance of settings and additional modes. Everything is extremely simple and clear.

Video recording is possible in 720p resolution for the main camera and VGA for the front camera.

The quality of photos taken with the main camera can be safely called good, as for a smartphone of this level. The focus is even throughout the frame, the white balance is determined mostly correctly, and there is not a lot of noise in the pictures. Therefore, the camera in the Huawei G630 can be safely called good, as for an affordable smartphone.

Outcomes

As a result, before us affordable smartphone, powered by a 4-core Qualcomm processor. The device will appeal primarily to those who do not want to buy a smartphone based on the MediaTek processor. The main advantages include a good screen, camera and ease of use, but a small amount of internal memory and mediocre battery life can be attributed to disadvantages.

Build quality, a camera on the street (in an apartment only in good lighting), screen resolution, non-slippery back panel, convenient location of the volume and off keys, confident reception of networks, battery, charger.

very good screen, colorful, surprised android 4.3 the games are going well, only asphalt 8 gives an error in the market. the battery is quite moderate for the day, quite enough, at night a convenient shutter removes 3-4%, 6 desktops. googled, many tools have smart answers, for example: when you bring the receiver to your ear or to your hand, the screen goes out, you remove it, then it lights up, stereo headphones are normal, the camera has disappeared, there is HDR glad).

Excellent display, colors and images are soft and rich. Excellent performance, fast enough and economical processor. Excellent calm, different design, back cover software, nice on the probe and does not slip. Excellent sound and loud, bass is also not heard much (rear speaker) Conversation is also good. Excellent noise reduction. Excellent signal reception (in any mode), quick search even a weak signal. The frames of the edges are well thought out, which, like a fence, do not stick out much so that the display does not scratch on the table. Excellent stable operation of the device as a whole (software and hardware). Excellent fast charging thanks to Qualcomm.

It is worth its money, to the touch and in appearance, NAA is much better than the rest of the same type. So far, I have not caused any complaints.

Fast processor, good video card (AnTuTu gives 16400), smooth interface, good screen, loud noise, fast search for GPS satellites even in an apartment, camera, slim body, build quality, android 4.3

The screen drives, you can see it well in the sun. The assembly is excellent, nothing staggers or backlash. The quality of the materials - I think it will scratch at the corners, but everything is pleasant, the back cover is matte, pleasant, does not slip. Responsive, smart. Heavy - it is felt that something was put into it;) Very loud, though the speaker is brought out to the back, but the hole has such burrs so that the phone does not fit snugly to the surface and does not muffle the sound, they thought everything over, well done. The connection is confident, the interlocutors do not complain, I hear everyone well. Weifai catches perfectly, while the child is in the sandbox in the yard, I sit next to him on my home WiFi (100 meters). GPS catches even in the apartment (the previous phone did not catch)

In my opinion, one of the essential is the built-in memory, it is sorely lacking, only 1.6 gigabytes are available, and for applications it is even less than about 400 megabytes. I also didn’t like the native keyboard, it’s not very functional, it is solved by installing a third-party keyboard from the layout (which in turn affects the battery charge and RAM, since it constantly works), there is no menu, which is unusual for me.

Well, what I immediately noticed is that the screen is easily soiled, it needs to be wiped frequently. the shutter can be opened by jagging, it was also upset that the battery is not removable. And there is no tape on it. As the seller said, they do not carry it yet, but it is possible that there are no stores in any store, but I did not find it.

    Small battery reserve.
Menu buttons are not highlighted and sometimes not very responsive to touch.
The main disadvantage is the small amount of internal memory - after installing the OS and several programs, the phone will give you a message that there is no more memory for applications.
Rear camera Bad quality- focuses poorly and for a long time. As a result, the quality of the images is not at all up to par. Compared to a camera, the iPhone 5s is like a professional DSLR (iPhone) and a very cheap soap dish (Huawei).

Battery, under heavy load (games) 2-4 hours, in normal mode 14-20 hours.
The oleophobic coating on the glass is peeling off. Because of this, the finger does not slip!
    Not too heavy.
The camera takes pictures decently in good lighting, but not very well in the dark.
Heavy games do not slow down a lot, but the graphics are at a high level.

The materials have slightly shaken, it is the materials, but not the workmanship, which is at its best. The back cover is made of thin plastic, requires careful handling.

The quality of the camera leaves much to be desired, although 8MP.

as in most of these phones, this is a battery, with active use it lasts for a day.

The camera takes a picture of the normal, if it is allowed to focus. Instantly, on the fly, you won't get quality photos.
Conducted a test: from 300 meters I took a picture of an advertising sign ...
1.without directional focusing - small print is blurred
    2. with a directed focus on this particular sign - everything is okay, the text is clear.
The colors are juicy, the pictures are bright.

Photos are merged from contacts, over time they themselves are poured in. For a year of use, the camera's cover has become blurry.

    Flimsy back cover, battery.
