Introduction

Huawei has decided to update all lines of its mobile devices to equip each unit with a FullView display. Therefore, we see on the shelves and Honor 2i, and Honor 7X, and Honor View 10, and Huawei Nova 2i. To this decent number of devices was added one more inexpensive smartphone called Honor 9 Lite. In fact, this is the Huawei P10 Lite, only with a different processor and two additional cameras.

The main feature of the latest Huawei gadgets is a screen with minimal bezels at the top and bottom. The company called it FullView. For example, LG has FullVision displays, while Samsung has "Limitless Display". In general, everyone comes up with their own marketing names.

At the time of this writing, the gadget was not officially released in Russia, so some parameters were not known to me. The cost also remained unknown. However, it can be assumed that 9 Lite will cost a potential buyer 18,000 - 20,000 rubles, given that its closest analogue costs about 15,000 rubles.

Design, dimensions, controls

The Honor 9 Lite is a mix of several Huawei gadgets that combine glass panels. For example, in P10 Lite, the back side is made up of two halves, while in Honor 9 the entire back panel is glass. Each of them has a specific glass distortion. However, in Honor 9 Lite, the panel is without distortion, like a mirror. Of course, this has its negative sides: prints quickly cover the material, chips and scratches are more noticeable. However, I personally like this design.

For the review, I got a blue phone - an amazingly beautiful color. Moreover, if the back panel is glass with a blue tint, then the front side has a semi-glossy coating interspersed with fine grains, creating a mother-of-pearl effect. The side frames are matte - it's metal.

In general, the phone looks extremely impressive, albeit somewhat secondary: hardly anyone (even from the reviewers) will immediately say which model you have in your hands.

In terms of dimensions, the Honor 9 Lite is very cool: 151 x 71.9 x 7.6 mm, thin, not wide, and much less than 5.5-inch in height Apple iPhone 8 Plus. The weight is also only 150 grams. Smartphone 9 Lite fits perfectly in the hand, does not slip. The bezels of the screen are as follows: top 10 mm, bottom 11 mm, right and left a little less than 4 mm.

On top of the front panel there are two selfie cameras, light and proximity sensors, an indicator of missed events, and an earpiece. It is loud, high-frequency sound without bass notes.

At the bottom you will find a standard 3.5 mm jack, a main microphone, an old microUSB connector and a speakerphone.

On the right is the power button, volume control. On the left is a typical plastic combined slot for a SIM and a memory card. The top is empty.

On the back panel there is a dark module with two lenses, a second microphone and a flash. Below is a fingerprint scanner.

Conclusion on the section: a beautiful but easily soiled device with a good assembly, materials pleasant to the touch, ergonomic design, convenient arrangement of various elements.

Honor 9 and iPhone 8 Plus

Honor 9 and P-Smart

Display

This device uses a 5.65-inch screen. Physical size - 64x128 mm. There is an anti-reflective coating, which is quite effective.

The display resolution of Honor 9 is FullHD +, that is, 1080x2160 pixels, the aspect ratio is 18: 9 (2: 1), the density is 427 pixels per inch. Matrix from IPS without on-cell air gap.

The viewing angles of the screen are maximum, no distortion. The backlight brightness is high, the screen does not fade in the light

In the settings there is an item with a color temperature. The eye protection function works: you can select not only the on and off time, but also the intensity.

For the first time on Huawei devices (I may be wrong), a resolution selection item appeared:

  • Smart Resolution
  • FullHD +

Apparently, in this way it is possible to influence the speed of the device and the "life" of the battery.

Battery

The Honor 9 Lite uses a non-removable 3000 mAh lithium polymer (Li-Pol) battery. A typical enough battery for such gadgets. Frankly, you can already judge in advance about the average values of the smartphone: about a day with a maximum amount of screen glow time of 3-4 hours, about 6 hours of HD video (MP4) at 100% brightness of the matrix backlight and 4 hours under a load of 3D toys ( Marvell: Contest of Champions).

As you understand, Honor 9 Lite is not about longevity.

With charging the battery, everything is more or less good here: a full "tank" in 2.5 hours.

Communication capabilities

As usual, the smartphone supports two SIM cards. However, one slot may be occupied by a memory card.

Honor 9 understands LTE Cat 4 in the 1/3/7/8/20 band range.

Notable is the presence of an NFC chip (but without Mifare Classic and Mifare Ultralight), which is not very common in such gadgets. Honor 9 reads the Troika card. It was not possible to top up the card. Otherwise, there are no problems: the sensitivity is high, you can pay for purchases.

There are also no complaints about GPS and GLONASS - everything works like a clock. In the presence of a typical set of "drummer": Wi-Fi without ac and dual bands, Bluetooth version 4.2, USB version 2.0 with "host".

Memory and memory card

The memory is a little regretted, so you only have to use 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB (about 20 GB available) of internal memory. The RAM is fast enough - 5000 MB / s, but the built-in memory is usual, 173/100 MB / s. Supported memory cards up to 256 GB, but only instead of one of the sim cards.

Cameras

In order for the marketing machine to work to its fullest, it is necessary to come up with more and more new chips. This time, Huawei decided to install as many as 4 cameras! Yes, we already know everything about this, but it is rarely found in inexpensive solutions.

In general, Honor 9 has two cameras on the front and back sides. This was done not only for marketing reasons, but also to blur the background - bokeh. The main and front cameras are 13 MP each (f2.2, 26 mm), the rest are 2 MP each. The latter are involved only in bokeh, they cannot be turned on separately.

Traditionally, for Huawei products, cameras shoot well: the correct white balance, not much noise, a clear picture. Focus is fast and accurate. "Bokeshechka" has an average quality of photo processing, but, on the whole, it will do quite well. There is at least an honest blurring of the background, not like the Chinese counterparts.

In photo mode, you can choose a digital aperture from 0.95 to 16. There is a "live photo" function - a simple answer to Live-photos from Apple. Such photographs are marked with a circle with dots.

Selfies are 4 out of 5 points. The picture is not always sharp and with the correct white balance. Bokeh - 3 out of 5. The screen acts as a flash.

The video seemed unremarkable to me: FullHD 30 FPS (both cameras) in any lighting conditions.

Performance and software

In Honor 9 Lite we again meet a chipset of our own production - HiSilicon Kirin 659: 16 nm, 64-bit, 8-core, 4xCortex-A53 2.36 GHz + 4xCortex-A53 1.7 GHz. The processor is almost no different from previous generations - Kirin 658/655/650. The only difference is in frequencies and versions of Bluetooth / Wi-Fi.

The device is completely adequate, does not slow down, does not freeze, does not glitch. It is a pleasure to use the system.

In the Antutu test, it scores about 66,000 points. Like the MediaTek Helio P25. With games, Kirin behaves normally: most of them started without problems and ran at maximum parameters. Is there anything graphics-complex on Android?

Honor 9 smartphone updated to Google Android version 8.0, which is pretty cool. Most of the similar devices are still on the "seven". We also updated the proprietary shell: now EMUI version 8.0. I did not notice any special changes, except for a slightly different design of the settings: they became more streamlined.

Interesting things: navigation bar (changing the arrangement of buttons), one-handed operation.

Multimedia

The Honor 9 Lite uses one speaker to output music. Its volume is high, the sound is flat, without bass and with a minimum amount of midrange. Good quality.

I checked the sound quality in the headphones on Bose QC35 and Meizu Flow. The former showed pleasant bass, moderate mids and not the cleanest highs. In general, it is very good, but the midrange and high frequencies would be more interesting. Again, theoretically they can be tightened with an equalizer.

"Ears" from Meizu: the volume is higher than that of Bose, the bass is relatively elastic, but at the level of 60 Hz - 80 Hz. In the midrange and treble, too, not very.

Total sound: everything is good with low frequencies, medium and high frequencies are lacking. Naturally, this is my personal opinion.

This model has a radio.

Conclusion

I would single out two undeniable cool features in this device: a nice glass design and minimal frames due to the use of a FullView display. The smartphone looks unambiguously impressive, fits well in the hand, and is very convenient to use. The processor does not raise any questions, the cameras are good and there is a bokeh effect (many will like it), decent sound in the headphones, the OS has been updated to Android Oreo.

"Such": the usual amount of RAM and built-in memory, their low speed, an archaic microUSB connector. I did not find any minuses in this model.

Once again, I would like to repeat that I reviewed the smartphone before the official announcement, so I did not know the cost in Russia. On AliExpress, Honor 9 Lite is likely to be found from about 13,000 rubles. Therefore, we can assume that our device will be released at a price of 18,000 - 20,000 rubles. If it is in the region of 16,000-17,000 rubles, then "light" is quite a profitable purchase of a FullView gadget with NFC.

Competitors:

  • ASUS Max Plus
  • LG Q6
  • Honor 7X
  • Huawei Nova 2i
  • Xiaomi Mi A1

Of the "gray" - of course, Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, but it only has one main camera. However, there is also a "sea" of two-chamber Chinese gadgets.

P.S. I am preparing a review of the Huawei P-Smart smartphone, which is almost no different from the Honor 9 Lite and, apparently, will cost even less (without NFC and a second selfie camera).

Smartphones without a large bezel-less display are already considered obsolete in 2018. In order not to fall out of the trend, Huawei decided to update its model lines of devices. Honor 9 Lite, which is reviewed in today's article, is just the result of one of these updates. What came of this? Read below.

Price and main characteristics

The first Honor 9 Lite smartphones have recently appeared on the shelves of Russian stores. The average price of the device is 15,000 rubles. In the Asian region, a smartphone can be purchased for about $ 300.

Specifications:
display: 5.65 ", LTPS LCD FHD + 2160 * 1080 px (427 ppi);
processor: HiSilicon Kirin 659 (2.36 GHz) + video accelerator Mali-T830;
RAM: 3 GB;
inner memory: 32 GB + micro SDXC flash cards up to 256 GB;
camera: main - dual module 13 + 2 MP, front - dual module 13 + 2 MP;
communication: Wi-Fi b / g / n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, LTE, NFC;
battery: 3000 mAh;
dimensions: 151 x 72 x 7.6 mm;
weight: 149 g.

The key feature of the novelty is two dual cameras at once on the front and back panels of the gadget. Honor 9 Lite also received a FullView widescreen bezelless display and a proprietary EMUI 8.0 software shell.

Completion and appearance

The Honor 9 Lite comes in the familiar blue box made of a fairly durable material. In the Asian version of the gadget, the model's logo is printed on the front side of the box in Chinese characters. On the opposite side of the package, you can find basic information about the budget employee. The package includes a charging unit, microUSB cable, silicone bumper and documentation.

Most cheap smartphones most often look very dull, plain plastic rectangles merge in the general mass of dullness and lack of designers' imagination. The Honor 9 Lite, fortunately, is not among the boring state employees. The device really attracts the eye, its sparkling rear panel shimmers very beautifully in the sun. Please note that the mirror effect is only available in the blue or gray version of the gadget. Fans of monochromatic smartphones should take a closer look at the black color of the Honor 9 Lite, in this configuration it is completely matte.

The glass case is not only beautiful but also very impractical. Honor 9 Lite will delight you with its appearance for only a few hours after removing the factory films from the device. Then it will quickly become covered with fingerprints and even scratches that stand out very inappropriately on the sparkling surface. It is very easy to acquire these very scratches, since the glass case strives to slip out of the palm during use. It is not for nothing that the manufacturer supplemented the package with a silicone protective case.

The arrangement of the functional elements of the gadget is no different from the standard Android smartphone... On the top bezel above the 5.56-inch display, you'll see an earpiece, dual front-facing camera, and proximity / lighting sensors. The space under the screen is occupied only by the brand's logo, the touch-sensitive navigation keys have moved to the display.

On the right is the volume rocker and the power button.

On the left side there is a hybrid tray for two SIM-cards. As usual, you can replace one of them with a memory card.

The bottom end is occupied by a microUSB connector, a multimedia speaker, a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the main microphone of the device.

The dual main camera is located in the upper left corner of the back cover, here you can also see an additional noise canceling microphone and LED flash. A fingerprint scanner is located just below.

Overall, the Honor 9 Lite is a smartphone for neat people. He's very handsome, superbly built, but very impractical. The glass panels of the case quickly collect fingerprints and soon become scratched. With active daily use, we recommend that you do not ignore the silicone bumper included in the kit.

Screen

The gadget received a budget IPS matrix with FullHD + expansion. The 5.56-inch display has a pixel density of 428 units per inch. For such a large display, this is a very good indicator, you will not see individual dots even when looking closely at small fonts. The color reproduction of Honor 9 Lite falls a little towards warm shades, but this can be easily corrected in the smartphone settings. Multi-touch supports up to 10 simultaneous touches.

At the minimum brightness level with Honor 9 Lite it is very convenient to work in complete darkness, in the bright sun the phone's screen is also perfectly readable. The viewing angles are maximum, without significant distortion with a strong deviation from 90 degrees. To save battery power, the gadget's settings provide an intelligent screen resolution lowering mode.

Performance

The performance level is the first aspect that reveals the cheapness of the Honor 9 Lite. It is not for nothing that its name contains the "Lite" prefix. If by outward appearance the device is still able to compete with the Chinese flagships, the results in synthetic benchmarks are no longer comparable. As the hardware platform of the hero of the review, the proprietary Kirin 659 processor was made, it is complemented by the Mali-T830 MP2 video accelerator and 3 GB of RAM. Built-in storage capacity - 32 GB.

The Honor 9 Lite copes with most of the simplest tasks like surfing the web or working in instant messengers with a bang. But games with modern 3D graphics can already cause problems, including noticeable overheating in the back of the smartphone. The problem is solved by lowering the graphics settings. On them in WoT: Blitz Honor 9 Lite produces a stable 45 frames per second.

Camera

Honor is actively experimenting with double cameras we can observe it since the beginning of 2017. Not surprisingly, even the budget model of the brand's smartphone has kept this trend. Honor 9 Lite has two dual cameras at once, the main one with a configuration of 13 and 2 megapixels, the front one - the same 13 and 2 megapixels.

The main purpose of the dual camera is for colorful shots in portrait mode. Honor 9 Lite copes with this with a bang, the device clearly highlights the desired object and normally blurs the background behind it. Traditionally, problems in the frame can be detected during night shooting, then blurry small details and noise appear. If you have multiple light sources at once, we recommend using the HDR mode.

Sample video:

The front camera of the review hero is a real gift for selfies, with it you can take very good pictures in portrait mode. There is a built-in beautifier.

Speaker, sound quality

Honor 9 Lite sounds pretty good, the smartphone has a very loud and high-quality multimedia speaker. For more detailed sound tuning, you can use the proprietary equalizer.

Honor 9 Lite implements a software sound enhancement system for headphones, so that even from the cheapest plugs, the smartphone “squeezes out” the maximum possibilities.

Battery

The device received a 3000 mAh battery, which, alas, is not enough for a couple of days of active use. Fans of games and other demanding applications will have to charge their smartphone every evening.

During the testing of autonomy, we took as an example the operation of the device in WoT: Blitz. For about an hour of playing at an average screen brightness, the phone was discharged by 20%. Continuous playback of FullHD video drains the battery of the device in 10 hours.

Communication and Internet

Despite the Lite prefix, the smartphone received an NFC chip and support for the LTE Cat fast communication standard. 4. While testing the connection, we did not find any problems.

For wireless connection Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n is used to the Internet. The search for navigation satellites in cold start mode takes no more than 7 seconds; in fast mode, the device finds the desired satellite almost instantly.

Honor 9 Lite video review

Competitors, conclusion

  • Updated design;
  • Dual front camera;
  • Excellent FullHD + display.
  • Weak battery.

The Honor 9 Lite is a beautiful yet fragile smartphone with a pretty attractive price tag. The device has good dual cameras that can take professional pictures in the right hands. The device has only one drawback - a short battery life.

Among the competitors are Meizu M6s and Xiaomi Redmi 5. Both competitors have almost the same specifications but lacking an NFC chip.

All of us have long been accustomed to constant competition in the smartphone market among their manufacturers. Each company is constantly striving to make its smartphone better than that of its closest competitor, at least a little, at least in one parameter. This is undoubtedly very good, everyone knows that the more competition among manufacturers, the better in the end the end customer.

However, in the case of Huawei, this parameter glitched slightly. In the spring of 2017, the company almost simultaneously released on the market models that are as similar to each other as possible and have fairly similar technical characteristics. We are talking, of course, about the Huawei P10 Lite and Honor 8 lite models. It would seem that within one company there should not be products that compete with each other and interfere with each other's sales. But, apparently, Huawei played with the Honor brand so much that it seriously believes that the audience of the phones is different and has little overlap, otherwise the motives of such actions remain clear only to themselves.

So Huawei P10 Lite or Honor 8 Lite? We will try to answer this question within the framework of today's article. Since the phones are very similar, comparing them will be difficult and even boring in some places. It is possible that, in the end, the underlying factor in the choice will be not the differences, but the price. However, we, one way or another, could not pass by such interesting topic so let's get started.

These models appeared in the official Russian retail almost simultaneously. The first was the P10 Lite, the first batches of which arrived in stores around April 12, 2017. However, Honor 8 Lite was also not long in coming and hit the shelves just five days later - on April 17, 2017.

It is quite possible that it would be more efficient to dilute releases of such similar models in time and it is a little more effective to play on the hype around new products, thus not interfering with your own second device. But it is quite possible that Huawei's marketing department had significantly more experience in such matters and they had some kind of tactics that they adhered to. The devices themselves are primarily aimed at young, active people who value style and elegance in smartphones. It is worth saying that, it seems, the phones did like theirs. target audience and sales went pretty well from the first days after the release.

Equipment

If we compare Huawei P10 Lite and Honor 8 Lite in terms of configuration, then we also will not find significant differences. Both phones are delivered in high-quality cardboard white boxes, but, in fact, they differ only in their design. As for the kit, in addition to the smartphones themselves, it also traditionally includes: Charger, USB cable, clip for ejecting the SIM card tray and user manual. Nothing interesting, for example, a headset or a rear silicone bumper, was found in any set. Therefore, we declare both sets as standard and boldly fix a draw between smartphones.

Design

The design, without exaggeration, is what I want to praise these phones non-stop for. The devices really turned out to be stylish, beautiful and youthful. The Huawei P10 Lite and Honor 8 Lite come in four colors, including black, white, gold and blue. It is the blue color for these phones that has become a real hit of the season, and is the most desirable color for purchase. Of course, we will not argue with this, the devices look really great in blue, but for the sake of fairness, we note that other colors suit them quite well, perhaps not even worse. The very same blue color in smartphones is somewhat different. For Honor, it is stricter, made in a dark, noble shade. And for Huawei, this color is brighter and lighter, one might even say that it is actually turquoise, plus this color of the phone's surface itself has an overflow effect, which makes the device even brighter. Which of these shades is more beautiful is up to you, since this is a matter of individual taste.

Both smartphones use a metal case, which is completely covered with tempered glass on the front and back sides, while at the front it has a special rounded shape using the so-called 2.5D technology. On the sides, or rather, around the perimeter of the smartphones, there is a matte metal insert. For a more elegant look, it was decorated with thin bevels, while for Huawei they are more shiny and beautiful, while for Honor they are more matte in the color of the insert itself. Thanks to this insert, the tested phones are very confident in the hand and absolutely non-slip, despite the rather slippery glass surface. By the way, at first it seemed to us that such surfaces should collect fingerprints very strongly, but as it turned out, both phones have a good oleophobic coating, thanks to which all traces are very easily removed. At the same time, we found the coating in Honor 8 to be of better quality, since its competitor collected more prints and was not so willing to clean it up.

Continuing the theme of glass and the back of phones, we noticed another curious difference. Honor has 8 Light back cover under the glass it was more mirrored, at a certain angle of illumination you could easily observe your reflection, while on the Huawei, the back wall was completely matte and practically did not reflect the light. In both smartphones, the fingerprint scanner is also located on the back of the case, both are slightly recessed into the case, both work out clearly without much delay. They differ only in shape, for Honor it is traditionally round, and for Huawei it has an unusual square shape, which looks quite original. The main camera and the flash of the devices are located in the same place, and in both cases they are hidden under glass. Thanks to this, smartphones lie flat on the table and do not wobble when trying to use them in this position.

On the front panel of both phones, traditionally for Huawei, there are no touch-sensitive or mechanical navigation keys; instead of them, the inscriptions “Huawei” and “Honor” flaunt at the bottom of smartphones, respectively, and the keys themselves have been transferred to the screen space of devices in digital form. Also in front of the top of the phones there is an earpiece, a front camera and a variety of sensors. On the sides of smartphones, as usual, there is a lock button, a volume control and a SIM card tray. Above is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and a noise canceling microphone, and below is a micro-USB for connecting charging and external devices, as well as a main speaker. And in the Honor phone there are two slots for speakers, one of which is decorative, while Huawei has only a slot for a real speaker, and on the other hand there is a spoken microphone.

This is, perhaps, all that can be said about the design of these devices. As you can see, there are really few differences, and it is simply not possible to single out a clear winner. It can be noted that Huawei's oleophobic coverage is not so good, but this is mostly subjective and should not affect the final result. It should also be said that both smartphones are assembled very soundly. None of them creaks, does not play, and seems to be a truly monolithic device. So today we only praise smartphones from us.

Display

The fight between Honor 8 Lite vs Huawei P10 Lite in terms of the display mainly revolves around the quality of the installed IPS matrix, since the rest of the parameters of the phones are almost identical. However, looking ahead, we can say that it was very difficult to determine who should be preferred in this matter.

Both phones are equipped with a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 424 ppi. Both screens have a high-quality oleophobic and anti-reflective coating, but the brightness margin is higher for Honor 8 Lite 530 cd / m2 versus 500 cd / m2 for Huawei P10 Lite, so the Honor screen will be better readable in bright sunlight. Also, both phones have an auto brightness control function, which works correctly and almost instantly, without annoying the owner with his thoughtfulness. Both phones in the multitouch test confirm support for ten simultaneous touches, which is a definite plus for these devices.

Matrices of phones reproduce colors close to natural, but Honor is doing a little better with this, since its color spectrum is closer to RGB, while its competitor has a much wider one. When viewed from a perpendicular view, both phones have the same high-quality and uniform white color, but the black one is much richer and more even at the Huawei screen. However, if you look at it from an angle, the situation changes in a strange way. Now Honor seems to be a clear leader, since it loses much less in contrast and brightness, while at an angle its black colors, although they shift closer to the red spectrum, look better than Huawei.

By default, both screens fade slightly in warm colors, but both Huawei and Honor have an application in the form of a color wheel, in which you can fine-tune the color temperature of the display for yourself. Both screens have no air gap between the glass and the matrix, which has a positive effect on the color rendering and usability of the display. Flickering or distortion of elements was not noticed on any device.

It has to be said that both displays are good and we both love them a lot. However, if you choose only one of them, then we will still award the victory to Honor 8 Lite for its higher maximum brightness and more natural color rendering. The rest of the displays turned out to be almost identical.

Sound

Smartphones reviewed today are not positioned as music phones... None of them have stereo speakers, but in terms of playing music, they still differ slightly. The sound of Honor 8 Light seemed to us to be simpler and not so saturated, the notes traditionally go to the side high frequency, there are very few mid and low frequencies. But Huawei P10 Light in this matter seemed to us, albeit not much, but more successful. It covers the sound range more widely, in its sound it is already possible to clearly trace both the mids and low frequencies, while the sound is clear and quite rich.

Both phones sound about the same in headphones. We can say with confidence that the sound becomes better in the headphones, while the volume was more than enough for us in both smartphones. Both phones use the same player program, in which, according to good tradition, there is practically no Huawei manual settings, but there is an option to enable or disable virtual system SWS. Both phones have an FM radio.

For the better sounding of the phone from the speakers in this round, we award the victory to the Huawei P10 Lite smartphone.

Cameras

Comparing Honor 8 Lite and Huawei p10 lite in terms of cameras is very difficult and very easy at the same time. We will not be lying if we say that the cameras installed on these two smartphones are practically identical, if not completely identical.

The main camera of the devices is equipped with a 12-megapixel module with an aperture of f / 2.2, there is a very nimble phase detection autofocus and a rather bright single LED flash. The cameras are not equipped with stabilization systems, but they have an interesting feature in the form of changing the focusing object on an already finished picture. In the program for shooting there are a lot of ready-made scenarios and effects such as: HDR, shooting light, "delicious food", panorama, slow motion, audio note and the like. There is also a professional mode, with which the user can manually select the white balance, sensitivity, shutter speed, exposure compensation, and the like.

The cameras shoot very well both in the daytime and in low light conditions. The depth of the frame is excellent, the resolution of the camera is sufficient for both long-distance shots and high-quality macro plans. Colors are given naturally, autofocus works quickly and correctly, in this regard, the cameras are very high level... When shooting at night, digital noise is almost imperceptible, and those that exist are effectively removed by the noise reduction system. At the same time, the "noise reduction" works smoothly and does not wash the frame, this is clearly visible if you try to photograph the text in poor lighting conditions.

The cameras are also capable of shooting in Full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. We also have absolutely no complaints about the quality of the video, except that the stabilization function is lacking, it is not very comfortable to shoot in motion and the image shakes quite noticeably. Wind noises and other extraneous sounds are practically inaudible, active noise cancellation works out at a high level.

The front cameras of the devices are equipped with an 8 megapixel sensor and an f / 2.0 aperture. These cameras do not have autofocus, as well as their own flash. The cameras shoot in about the same way, some pictures are better for Honor, some for Huawei, so we could not give preference to one of them. Both cameras have software embellishments, background blur and similar effects. In general, as a phone for a selfie, either one or a second smartphone is suitable.

As you may have guessed, in this round we could not choose the winner, and smartphones are awarded a well-deserved, honest draw.

Memory and memory card

The devices are delivered to the Russian market in the following version: Huawei P10 Lite 3 gigabytes of RAM, 32 gigabytes of main memory, and Honor 8 Lite 4 gigabytes of RAM and also 32 gigabytes of main memory. Although the P10 Lite has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage, the Honor 8 has a higher storage capacity in this case, which means it is the winner in this particular round.

In terms of storage speed, these two phones are also similar, we did not carry out precise tests, but the sensations of the recording and loading times of the phones were equal. This means that it is the volume that determines the winner in any case. It is also worth noting that both devices support micro-SD memory cards up to 128 gigabytes, but when installing it, you will have to donate one of your SIM cards.

Sensors

Honor 8 Lite sensors:

  • Proximity sensor;
  • Lighting;
  • Magnetic field;
  • Fingerprint sensor;
  • Accelerometer;
  • Gyroscope;
  • Step detector.

Sensors Huawei P10 Lite:

  • Proximity sensor;
  • Lighting;
  • Magnetic field;
  • Fingerprint sensor;
  • Accelerometer;
  • Gyroscope;
  • Step counter.

As you can see, with regard to the availability of various sensors, the devices are also absolutely equal. Another boring draw.

Connection

It is as easy to deal with phone communications as with sensors, you just need to see which networks and wireless communication smartphones support and which don't.

Huawei P10 Lite:

  • LTE Cat.6 FDD (B1 / 3/7/8/20), TD (B40) networks;
  • Wi-Fi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac (2.4 and 5 GHz);
  • Bluetooth 4.1.

Honor 8 Lite:

  • GSM / GPRS / EDGE networks (850/900/1800/1900 MHz);
  • WCDMA / HSPA + networks (850/900/1900/2100 MHz);
  • LTE Cat.6 FDD (B1 / 3/7), TD (B38-41) networks;
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n (2.4 GHz);
  • Bluetooth 4.1.

As you can see, Honor in this case supports slightly fewer LTE networks than its direct competitor, in addition, it can only work with one Wi-Fi range, which is also very critical today and adds additional points to the P10 light coin box.

Phones support approximately the same number of navigation satellites and include such constellations as: GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS. However, Honor lacks the NFC module, which is very popular today, which can also scare away from this smartphone a very large number of buyers.

In general, in our opinion, Huawei P10 Lite snatches a confident victory in points in this round. He has everything that the competitor has, but at the same time the competitor cannot boast of the same.

Battery life and performance

The comparison between Huawei P10 Lite and Honor 8 Lite comes to the most interesting part - performance. Comparing more diverse phones, this would really be one of the most interesting parts of the article, but in fact, in this regard, phones also differ slightly from each other.

Honor is equipped with a single-chip HiSilicon Kirin 655 system, an eight-core processor built on Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency formula of 4x2.1 GHz + 4x1.7 GHz. In turn, Huawei P10 Lite has on board the HiSilicon Kirin 658, an eight-core processor with Cortex-A53 cores and frequencies of 4x2.3 GHz + 4x1.7 GHz. That is, in fact, both phones have identical processors, only in Huawei the frequency of a more powerful cluster is 200 megahertz higher than that of a competitor.

However, in real applications, if you covered the name of the phones with your finger, you would not be able to tell which one. Without accurate measurements, by eye, it is very difficult to track the effect of several additional megahertz and the speed of the devices seems to be about the same. And in synthetics, this is reflected at about the same level. If you run the Antutu benchmark several times, then the average result of both processors will be around 57 thousand points.

Now both of these chips are quite enough to perform almost all urgent everyday tasks, be it games, watching movies or surfing the Internet. However, as far as the margin for the future is concerned, it is rather dubious and it is quite possible that within several years the user will want to switch to something more productive.

Also, the 658 Kirin, unlike its colleague, is equipped with an additional i5 coprocessor, which can handle simple tasks that do not require a lot of computing power and power consumption. Thus, the junior processor is designed to save battery power in cases where the services of a powerful processor can be refused. However, we will see if this feature works in practice a little later, but for now let's pay attention to the summary table of processor testing in popular benchmarks.

Benchmark Huawei p10 lite
(HiSilicon Kirin 658)
Honor 8 lite
(HiSilicon Kirin 655)
HTC One X10
(MediaTek Helio P10 (MT6755))
Honor 6C
(Qualcomm Snapdragon 435)
Asus Zenfone 3
(Qualcomm Snapdragon 625)
AnTuTu (v6.x) 56286 57038 50597 45579 63146
GeekBench (v4.x) 895/3184 809/3357 757/2071 678/2121 831/4092

In both single-chip systems, the Mali-T830 MP2 chip is installed as a video accelerator. The capabilities of this accelerator are quite enough for comfortable playing most modern games at medium graphics settings. For example, let's take a popular online game World of Tanks Blitz, in which the chip is at medium settings and with Full resolution HD confidently produced 50-55 frames per second. In lighter projects, such as Asphalt, the 8 chip provides stable 60 frames per second without any drawdowns or freezes.

Our test subjects today owe their charge to rechargeable batteries with a capacity of 3000 milliampere-hours. This, of course, is far from a record, but for a full day of comfortable operation of the devices is enough. But, of course, when comparing phones, there is no such subjective assessment. We turned off all major energy saving features and ran a few experiments.

With the Honor 8 Lite, you can count on: 13 hours 30 minutes reading, 10 hours 30 minutes video, 4 hours 30 minutes gaming. And using the Huawei P10 Lite, you will find: in reading mode - 10 hours 30 minutes, in video mode - 8 hours 30 minutes, in games mode - 4 hours 30 minutes.

As you can see, the coprocessor for the Huawei smartphone does not really help to save power. On the other hand, it has a quick charge function, which Honor does not. However, it should also be said that this does not affect the test results themselves. Therefore, it is difficult to explain for what reasons Honor has come out so far ahead, but given the equal performance indicators, it is he who takes the victory in this round.

Operating system

Both smartphones monitored by us were installed operating system Android version 7.0. As for the branded skins, Honor Light was equipped with EMUI 5.0, while Huawei Lite had a proprietary EMUI 5.1 skin.

In such a situation, the victory could be given to the Huawei smartphone, but both phones support the upgrade to Android 8.0 and EMUI 8.0. So we decided not to rush, for the most part, the advantage will be with the device, which will have already new system, but for now we have a draw.

Price

At the start of sales for the Honor 8 Lite they asked for 16 thousand rubles, and for the Huawei P10 Lite 19 thousand rubles. To date, the difference has decreased slightly, and now in some stores Honor 8 Lite can be found for 12 thousand, and Huawei P10 Lite for 14 thousand rubles. However, despite the reduction in the price difference, Huawei still remains more expensive, which means that Honor is much more preferable in terms of cost. We'll give him a point.

Conclusion

If you have carefully read the entire article from start to finish, you have already realized that Honor 8 Lite wins with a score of 4-2. Congratulations to the winner and it is he who we recommend to you for purchase.

However, it should be borne in mind that when choosing a smartphone, you should focus primarily on your needs, and only then on the overall assessment of the device. Yes, Honor has pulled ahead quite strongly, but it does not have such very useful functions as NFC and fast charging.Therefore, if these functions are very important for you, then despite the rating, the Huawei P10 Lite smartphone will be preferable to purchase for you.

In the smartphone market, there is no time to hesitate, and Honor is pushing ahead with a new device that should appeal to those looking for a stylish phone at a reasonable price. Here we take a close look at the Honor 9 Lite in our hands-on review.

The Honor line can be a little confusing for the untrained person, especially if you include Huawei, the owner of the Honor brand.

Thus, the Honor 9 Lite sounds like a stripped-down version of the excellent Honor 9, and while this is somewhat true, the new device is also a mini or "lite" version of the Honor View 10 thanks to its 18: 9 screen.

However, the new smartphone is closest (almost identical in fact) to the Huawei P Smart.

Price and availability

Honor are attractive phones with decent specs for a fraction of the price of the competition.

The official price of the device is 14,990 rubles, which allows the Honor 9 Lite to fit into the market's budget range. You can buy the phone from February 9th in the official Huawei online store and in the company's partner stores.

Design and appearance

The Honor 9 Lite looks like the Honor 9, one of our favorite mid-range phones, and uses the already familiar combination of glass and aluminum.

Modern Honor smartphones are very bright and attractive thanks to the glossy casing and the signature blue color. The “mirror” finish - on blue and gray models - can be eye-catching in photos, but quickly gets messy with fingerprints.

In design, it looks like the successor to the Honor 9 due to the move to an 18: 9 screen. The device also looks similar to the Honor View 10, which is larger.

Honor has moved the fingerprint scanner to the back of the smartphone instead of pushing it under the display. The sensor is neatly placed in the middle and away from cameras. This is a fairly common move for an 18: 9 smartphone.

The new screen means the Honor 9 Lite is slightly taller than the regular model. It is also slightly thicker (7.6mm) but is 6g (149g) lighter.

Characteristics and features

As mentioned, the Honor 9 Lite is a combination of existing phones. Much like the regular Honor 9, but the cheaper newcomer has the same 18: 9 style screen available on the View 10.

The screen size is 5.65 inches, so it falls between the normal 9 and the View 10 in terms of size. This big screen taking into account the physical size of the phone. The resolution is slightly higher than that of the "nine" (Full HD + 2160x1080) to match the aspect ratio of 18: 9 and maintain a pixel density of 428ppi.

Overall, the IPS screen is very pleasant, offering decent brightness, a "comfortable viewing" mode and softer display colors. We are very impressed with this quality on a smartphone that costs less than 15,000 rubles.

Unsurprisingly, the Honor 9 Lite has a lower-end processor than its peers, the Kirin 659 (like the Honor 7X) instead of the flagship 960 or 970. It's an eight-core chip with decent speed and ample enough for smooth operation.

3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage space for files is perfectly acceptable and sufficient for most people buying a phone in this price range. In addition, the available microSD card slot allows you to expand the space up to 256GB if needed.

Using the memory card will take up the second SIM slot, but that doesn't bother most users. The Honor 9 Lite features LTE networking, NFC, 11ac Wi-Fi (at 5GHz) and GPS.

The Honor 9 Lite doesn't have a more modern USB-C port, but it does have an increasingly elusive headphone jack.

The fingerprint scanner on the back works well and can be used for a variety of things besides the usual phone unlocking. For example, taking a photo, answering calls, viewing a photo gallery, and more.

In addition to the "FullView" display, the Honor 9 Lite boasts four cameras. You will find a combination of 13 and 2 megapixel cameras on both the front and back.

Each pair works together to provide what is commonly referred to as portrait mode where a 13Mp sensor captures details while a low resolution sensor is present for a depth effect. Although the cameras are the same, the rear ones are additionally equipped with HDR and phase detection autofocus functions.

The video shows the performance of the Honor 9 Lite cameras in low light conditions.

It is clear that there is nothing like wireless charging and not even USB-C. But there is a 3000 mAh battery, which on average lasts for a whole day of use. Fast charging would have come in handy, but it might be too much to ask for from a smartphone at this price point.

Software and Applications

Nice to see the Honor 9 Lite ships with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. This latest version to which many of last year's phones (even the Galaxy S8) have yet to be updated.

Honor also has Huawei EMUI 8.0, which used to be a big problem, but the proprietary shell has been improved over time.

In our opinion, the phone has too many pre-installed applications, including at least six games.

Honor 9 Lite specifications
  • Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0
  • 65-inch Full HD + 2160x1080 18: 9 touchscreen, 428ppi
  • Kirin 6590 octa-core processor (4x4GHz, 4x1.7GHz)
  • 3 GB RAM
  • 32 GB space for files
  • MicroSD slot (up to 256GB)
  • Double rear camera- 13Mp + 2Mp, 1080p video recording
  • Dual front camera - 13Mp + 2Mp
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • 11b / g / n Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.2 4G LTE
  • Headphone port
  • Dual nano-SIM (uses SD slot)
  • Micro-USB
  • 3000mAh non-removable battery
  • Weight 149 g

Should you buy the Honor 9 Lite?

The Honor 9 Lite may not have all the hottest tech gadgets built in, but it's one of the cheapest phones to offer an 18: 9 screen with a bezel-less design. Outwardly, a very nice smartphone, and its general characteristics are at a quite good level. For its price, it is a great candidate to consider buying.

Updated 07.09.2018

Huawei makes cool smartphones that differ from those of Samsung or Apple brands in availability with almost equal features and performance. Particularly popular are the Honor line and the related 8 and 8 Lite models. Below we will consider the main differences between these "middle peasants".

Features Honor 8 and Honor 8 Lite

For ease of perception, we indicate in the list the main important parameters phones.

  1. Price: 20,000 rubles (version with 4 GB of RAM).
  2. Processor: HiSilicon Kirin 950.
  3. Camera: 2 rear sensors, 12 MP, F / 2.2.
  4. Battery: 3000mAh.

  1. Price: 13,000 rubles (version with 4 GB of RAM).
  2. Display: 5.2 inches, 1920 × 1080.
  3. Processor: HiSilicon Kirin 655.
  4. Camera: 12 MP, f / 2.2
  5. Battery: 3000mAh.

The main difference is central processing units and a rear camera. The rest of the characteristics, including the display diagonal, are approximately equal. Let's start with the obvious differences.

Processor Comparison - Hisilicon Kirin 950 vs 655

The name of the chipsets makes it clear which one is better. Hisilicon Kirin 950 was at one time the TOP and was used in flagship phones. Today there are already Kirin 960 and 970, which are used in new models of Huawei. So the Kirin 950 chip fades into the background, but it still remains the flagship.

HiSilicon Kirin 950 specifications:

  1. Process technology: 16 nm.
  2. 8 cores working in a two-cluster scheme: 4 Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz, 4 cores Cortex-A73 2.53 GHz.
  3. Integrated GPU Mali-T880 MP4 900 MHz.
  4. Built-in ISP processor.
  5. LTE Cat 6 modem with download speeds up to 300 Mbps.

The test results of the chip in the Honor 8 smartphone are high - 87979 points.

Quite a high result for the once flagship processor. At the moment, almost 88 thousand points is an indicator of a solid "middle peasant".

But Huawei Honor 8 Lite received a "lightweight" Hisilicon Kirin 655 chipset, which clearly does not claim high performance and TOP positions in benchmark tests. It is also made on a 16nm process technology and is equipped with 8 Cortex-A53 units of different performance. They work in a 2-cluster structure: four are always involved, the rest of the four are connected if necessary.

There is a built-in "graphics" Mali-T830, which copes well with all modern games on Play Market... The phone clearly has no problems with games. The benchmark result is not impressive - only 56 thousand points, which is much lower than the performance of the flagship Kirin 950.

The winner of this comparison is the Huawei Honor 8 chipset with more powerful processor... This was expected.

Cameras

The second obvious difference between phones is cameras. The older model received two modules without optical stabilization, but with laser autofocus. Daytime shots are excellent: accurate color reproduction, wide dynamic range, minimum noise, fast autofocus. Thanks to the second module, the gadget photographs objects with a blurred background, but occasionally "misses". The only drawback of the camera is noise in low light, but this applies to absolutely all devices with small matrices and narrow apertures.

Sample photos on Huawei Honor 8

Original resolution saved - click on the image to open it in full size.

The very first shot is the best. Then, as the lighting deteriorates, so does the quality of the picture. On closer inspection, you will find noise in the last photo.

Camera in Honor 8 Lite

Unlike the standard version, the "lightweight" received only one module, which shows great results during the day, but bad - at night. There is noise in low light, but this is quite tolerable. Precise white balance and correct fast focus are the main advantages of the camera.

Sample photos on Huawei Honor 8 Lite

Images will open in full resolution on click.

The first two shots were taken in natural light - excellent quality. The last photo was taken indoors in low light - there is a noise even when viewed on a laptop screen without magnification.

The winner is the older model Honor 8 without the Lite prefix. Due to the two cameras, more light enters the matrices, so the quality of the photo, even when shooting difficult scenes, remains high, but not ideal. A plus can be called the Bokeh effect (blurred background) - it makes the frame artistic.

Disadvantages of phones

Traditionally, based on customer reviews, we will point out the main disadvantages of both models.

Disadvantages of Honor 8:

  1. Poor sound and music player... This problem is solved by installing the player from Google play Market.
  2. Slippery body, therefore the use of a bumper is highly indicated.
  3. No headphones included.
  4. Shooting moving objects in automatic mode is difficult - you need to reduce the shutter speed in the settings (available from manual mode).

Disadvantages of Honor 8 Lite

  1. No NFC (contactless payment module).
  2. No headphones.
  3. Weak sound - mono speaker, which, moreover, is directed downward.
  4. Very slippery - strives to fall out of hands, a bumper is required.
  5. Weak standard charging.

Verdict: the regular Honor 8 differs from the Lite version by a more powerful processor and a dual-module camera. This justifies the difference in price - 7,000 rubles.
