How to connect a wifi router in an apartment. How to connect a Wi-Fi router if there is a wired Internet

It is difficult to overestimate the convenience offered by a wireless router installed at home and used to access the network. This eliminates the need for a large number of wires to connect all devices, you can freely connect a smartphone and provide communication for other devices using Wi-Fi.
And in order to fully appreciate all the advantages of this construction option home network, you need to connect Wi-Fi router, which will be discussed below

What is a wireless router and how does it work

To make it easier to understand further settings, you must first understand the terms and principles of its operation. To communicate with other computers, be it a LAN or the Internet, the user's computer must somehow connect with them. If your service provider provides cable access over an Ethernet connection, the computer can be directly connected through the built-in or external network card. But if a user has several computers, for example, a home PC, a laptop, as well as a work laptop used at home, then they all need access to the same network. For these purposes, serves wired router, which often combines connectivity into wired and wireless devices. The service operator's wire is connected to the router, which, in turn, gives access to all available devices, processing their requests and switching the connection.

Wireless routers are increasingly used today

Although many of them also have connectors for connecting devices that are unable to receive and transmit data via Wi-Fi. Installing such a device at home allows you to combine the user's gadgets without wires and provide them with fast and high-quality Internet access.

WiFi router connection

To use the router on a home LAN, the user will need:

  1. a package of Internet services issued by the provider (namely, registration data in the form of a login, password and a list of necessary settings and parameters);
  2. cable for internet connection. It is provided by the provider, and the cable itself, as a rule, is of several types - antenna wire, Ethernet or ADSL. It is he who enters the apartment from the switchboard at the entrance.

When using an Ethernet connection, a Wi-Fi router acts as a modem and the wire can be connected directly to it. When using ADSL or antenna cable, the user will need a separate modem, which the provider also provides in the kit. The connection will then be done by connecting the cable first to the modem, and then through the RJ-45 cable included in the kit, directly to the router.

To connect Wi-Fi at home, you first need to connect your PC and router and perform presetting... For these purposes, you can use two methods.

  • WiFi connection from the user's computer. To do this, you need to connect the power to the router, and find on the computer wireless network(its parameters at factory settings are specified in the instructions) and connect to it.
  • Wired way. We connect the connector with the name "WAN" and the network card of the computer via RJ-45).

It will not be particularly difficult to connect a Wi-Fi router yourself if you additionally read the instructions for it, as well as detailed description procedures, often provided by the telecom operator itself. The websites of most service providers and manufacturers of network equipment can be represented by step-by-step instruction with a detailed description of all settings and visual examples.

After Wi-Fi connection the router is done, you can start configuring and using it. To do this, first of all, you need to enter the control menu in order to continue to study all its functions. On the back or the box from under it, the manufacturer always indicates the following parameters:

  1. serial number;
  2. MAC address (later on it can be useful for setting up a connection, managing a firewall, and many other purposes);
  3. the address where you can enter the web-based management interface (consists of numbers, the groups of which are separated by periods, for example, 192.168.1.1.);
  4. login and password to enter. These parameters are set by default and can be changed by the user later.

To configure, you need to follow these steps.

  • We connect the computer to the device via Wi-Fi or cable.
  • After installing the network, enter the address specified in the instructions in the browser. Most often this is a combination of the form 192.168.1.1.
  • The system will ask for a password and login in a browser dialog box. We enter the data that are included in the instructions or the password and username changed by ourselves.

Depending on the selected model and firmware version.

Important! You should start connecting the router by changing the factory password to an arbitrary user combination. This step will eliminate the possibility of unauthorized connection to the device and the use of traffic.

How to connect ADSL

When using a dial-up connection to an ADSL provider, it is not always necessary to use a special modem and Wi-Fi router. For these purposes, a combined option is useful - an ADSL Wi-Fi router that combines the functions of the devices described above.

It differs from the usual wireless one in that there is a separate connector for a telephone cable on the back panel.

An ADSL router receives data via a telephone line and can immediately transmit it via Wi-Fi, cable, or by combining the two. You can connect a router of this type in the same way as a normal one, having previously connected to it telephone line and after pairing with a computer for further fine-tuning.

Currently there are different ways building a home network, and if you wish, you can connect a Wi-Fi router, even if you already have wired Internet... To do this, you need to correctly install and configure the device.

Instructions

Purchase a Wi-Fi router if the wired Internet is already installed in your home and is working properly. You can consult your provider's website or refer to it directly to find out which device models are most suitable for a valid connection.

Connect the cable of the wired Internet to the WAN connector of the router, and connect the device itself to a computer or laptop. After you have become one of the users of the Internet, having installed a wired Internet for yourself, many are not comfortable because the Internet, tied with a cable, does not allow you to freely move with your device.

How to be?! Not so long ago I noticed that many are looking on the Internet for a solution to how to make a wireless Internet out of a wired Internet, i.e. Wi-Fi. I will not describe a bunch of incomprehensible things, but I will simply say that there is a solution, and it is very simple. To make wireless from the wired Internet you just need to connect it and configure it.

The settings are quite simple, you install your router, of course you need one that has built-in Wi-Fi, in any place convenient for you, preferably in the center, so that the signal is the same everywhere. Then it all depends on what type of Internet you are using, PON or DSL, find the connector for your cable in the router and insert it there.

Connect the router to power and wait for it to load, about 2 minutes. Next, connect your device to the LAN port with a cable, this is necessary to configure the wireless connection, then follow the instructions that come with your router, since each router has its own interface and IP address to enter the settings. If you are having difficulty finding the address to enter the modem settings, then I recommend reading the article in which you can find a table with passwords and addresses of popular router manufacturers.

After you complete the setup Wi-Fi connections, I think there should not be any difficulties, since in modern Wi-Fi routers the entire interface is in Russian, you can use a wireless connection with your device. I recommend reading the article on how to connect the device to your wireless network.

Many modern providers provide Internet access via an optical cable and usually it is enough just to insert the plug into the connector of your device to access the Internet, in this case, when you insert the connector into the router, you will immediately get wireless and any other additional settings router is not required, everything will work and so. But there is a drawback to this, your wireless Internet will be public, i.e. all your neighbors will be able to use it.

That is why, it is recommended to go to the settings of your router to set a convenient network name and password for you. If you are having trouble setting up wireless internet in your router, then write its brand in the comments, I will try to help.
