The Asus Lamborghini VX3 is a laptop with the style and looks of a sports car. Asus Lamborghini VX3 - laptop with the style and appearance of a sports car ASUS Lamborghini VX1: packaging and delivery

Believe it or not in the "dusty time" stories - everyone's business, but one of the legends, very close to the theme of our story today, says: "One early summer morning of hot 1962 at the entrance to the office of Enzo Ferrari in Maranello, a Ferrari 365 GT stopped. A middle-aged man of presentable appearance emerged from it and went straight to the chief's waiting room. by eye, as is customary in the circles of true entrepreneurs. The secretary, entering the boss, forgot to close the door behind her, so the visitor became an involuntary witness to the conversation. "Signor ... would like to talk to you, - said the secretary, - he drives a Ferrari and wanted I would like to make a few comments about the car. ”In response, the head of the already well-known company at that time asked in a loud and displeased voice:“…? Who is that? Explain to him that this is not a front yard and I have no time for every client. "" It was a real blow for me, "the failed visitor later admitted. day sold his Ferrari. The scoundrel Ferrari will still recognize me! "That's actually the whole parable, as you guessed of course, it was none other than Ferruccio Lamborghini, at that time already a very influential and wealthy man in Italy, whose name was known thanks to the production of competitive tractors, especially relevant for agriculture in the post-war period.

It so happened that the decision to create a company was made under the pressure of emotions, it is very simple "we are starting to build cars" and that's it, economic calculations were left behind, the main goal is to build a sports car that surpasses the quality of the famous "Scuderia" product. At the beginning of 1963, at the Turin Motor Show, the first swallow, the Lamborghini 350 GT, was presented to the public. Then the history of the company flowed with varying success, the models replaced each other, as did the owners, from 1998 to this moment "Automobili Lamborghini" belongs to Audi, which in turn is a division of the Volkswagen AG concern. Thanks to the introduced "fresh ideological breath", the new owners appeared the legendary Diablo and Murcielago, and at the Geneva Motor Show in 2003 the debut of the long-awaited and relatively miniature model Gallardo (power 500 hp, maximum speed exceeds 300 km / h, and acceleration time up to 100 km / h in just 4 seconds).

Lamborghini Gallardo

Actually, this model inspired the designers and engineers of another eminent brand of computer only ASUSTeK to produce a laptop computer with the proud name ASUS Lamborghini VX1, saturated with a racing spirit, squeaky brakes, puffs of smoke from under the wheels and roar of engines, to the "light of God" together with their colleagues from Lamborghini. whose debut took place in Bologna (Italy) directly on the territory of the legendary factory for the production of sports and racing cars. This event kicked off a new stage in laptop car racing, reviving the long-standing Ferrari-Lamborghini confrontation in the auto industry and continuing to shift the scales between slightly less-old competitors Acer and ASUS.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1

ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is like a sports coupe: bold, bright, aggressive. Every detail is perfected to the smallest detail, stylish top lacquered lid, magnesium-aluminum inserts, strict and at the same time elegant lines. Under the hood, crowned with the famous "Automobili Lamborghini" logo in the form of a bull (in fact, it is not a bull, but a Taurus - the sign of the zodiac, under which Ferruccio Lamborghini was born), a "motor" of maximum power, a productive video card, like all the other high-tech ones " the insides "strive so that the laptop" left "from the start and turned into a point in the blink of an eye.

Of course, it would be more correct to compare the "racing creations" of Acer and ASUS with each other, but Acer Ferrari 4005WLMi is built on a single-processor solution from AMD, opposite the dual-core "heart" of ASUS Lamborghini VX1. The new dual-core model of Ferrari has not yet reached the domestic market. Therefore, today ASUS V6J will oppose the car from ASUSTeK, on the "chassis" of which our today's guest is installed. In terms of the interior, both laptops are very similar, the only noticeable difference is the frequency of the processors and the amount of RAM, the ASUS V6J has both of these parameters lower. By the way, when the top cover is raised, the exterior of mobile cars is visually very close.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: packaging and delivery set

The packing box of ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is different from those in the budget version. The visible sides with a black background depict the "hood" part of the laptop with the "Automobili Lamborghini" bull, the exact same logo is duplicated in the upper right corner. The model name and the name of the manufacturer of the laptop are printed in white so that even with the relatively small size of the letters, they are clearly visible. The principle of matryoshka dolls, typical for products from ASUSTeK, is also present. The box with the laptop itself and the smallest accessories is placed in a larger one together with a bag for carrying a "portable car".

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: packing box

The appearance of the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 packaging is quite consistent with its content, neither give nor take, laptop computers from ASUSTeK have always been famous for the richness of the bundle, and today's bright representative of the family, sharpened for "laptop racing", is no exception. In addition to the laptop itself, the following was found in the box: a rechargeable battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh; AC adapter with indicator light; modem cable; quick start guide "Quick Installation Guide"; warranty card for two years for the laptop; a list of authorized service centers around the world; user manual (in Russian); LCD ZBD Monthly Warranty Brochure; small Bluetooth-mouse from Logitech with ASUS and Lamborghini inscription in the middle along with instructions for its installation; bag and case for carrying a laptop with Lamborghini symbols, a booklet "ASUS-LAMBORGHINI VX1", a cloth for cleaning the monitor (I think, and not only him) and a set of disks, which included:

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: package contents

Two system recovery discs (Recovery);
Driver & Utility ver. 1.0;
Nero v. 6.6.0.15;
[email protected] SE 2.0;
PowerDirector DE v 3.0.1208;
ASUS DVD v.6.0.

"Rodent" with Bluetooth interface, produced, as already mentioned, by Logitech, is powered by standard AA batteries. To replace the batteries, you just need to pull the top cover in the opposite direction from the buttons. A wireless mouse is certainly convenient, but it obliges you to timely monitor the battery level so that you don't have to switch to working with the Touchpad at the most inopportune moment.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: Bluetooth mouse

In the course of the "play" one more question arose why a black mouse was attached to the yellow laptop (ASUS Lamborghini VX1 arrived for testing in yellow color). It should be assumed that this is probably a special order from ASUS and the designers did not have the opportunity to vary the colors.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: design and ergonomics

Moving from the packaging to the direct consideration of today's "hero", the eyes stop at the bright yellow hood-lid of the "portable car" (in general, ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is available in two color variations, in addition to yellow, there is also a burning black, no less polished and bright, thereby ASUSTeK puts the potential owner in front of a difficult choice, since both colors are really good). The lines are strict and in geometry, coupled with color, strongly resemble a true Lamborghini. Both edges are decoratively raised to the rear by narrow stripes, forming a kind of "air intake" between themselves, in the middle of which, with the top cover lowered, the duplicated system indicators clearly glow.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: front view

In the middle, closer to the protruding part of the cover designed to raise the display, is the Automobili Lamborghini logo with a small calf inside. The inscription of the manufacturer of the laptop itself modestly found its place at the very edge of the "air intake" or, in other words, "pseudospolera".

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: logo on the cover

The group of indicators on the lid includes (from left to right):

ASUS Lamborghini VX1 Status Indicators
on the top cover

Power indicator (on when the laptop is on; blinking when the PC is in standby mode; when the computer is off or in sleep mode (STD), the indicator is off);

There is no display fastening lock; there is a small protrusion at the end of the top cover, holding which it is not difficult to open the laptop. Inside, the color scheme changes sharply from yellow to black, which is quite logical, since if what was contained under the "hood" had such a bright color, then it could distract and simply corny interfere with its owner, dazzling in the eyes with its comparatively "poisonous" color. The interior design is very much reminiscent of ASUS V6J, from which one can make a bold assumption that they have the same "base", tk. and the overall dimensions, except for the thickness due to the built-in "air intake", are the same. In the center of the frame around the display, the ASUS logo flaunts, along its perimeter rubber pads are put in for a softer fit to the bottom. At the base of the screen, between the two hinges, the battery clearly fits into the entire thickness of the lower part of the laptop, which fits snugly to the second group of indicators together with the PC power button and quick launch keys, located a little closer to the keyboard, and forming a small black in shape " edging ".

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: open

From the mentions of Lamborghini, only the inscription with the brand name displayed in white has remained.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: the inscription under the keyboard

The display retention mechanism is no different from the ASUS V6J, the hinged bases are a continuation of the top cover, this method makes it possible to move the screen away from the user by several centimeters, but the maximum opening angle of the laptop is limited and relatively far from 180 degrees, which can be seen in the photo below:

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: opening angle

ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is equipped with a 15.0-inch matrix with a maximum resolution of 1400x1050 pixels with a classic aspect ratio of 4: 3 (SXGA +). Subjectively, the vertical and horizontal viewing angles are quite decent, as befits expensive models. The "glass" coating of the display is present, adding richness to the image on the one hand, and on the other, displaying any well-lit object or light source located behind. For this reason, the potential owner of a "racing car" is provided with the search for the most favorable light incidence.

The nature of "glassy" is hidden in the use of ASUS-proprietary technology ASUS Color Shine (special polymer coating) - a technology for the production of "glass" liquid crystal displays, which provides exceptional picture quality and color saturation, creating a more vivid and colorful image.

ASUS Color Shine Technology

In addition to Color Shine, ASUS Lamborghini VX1 has another proprietary technology from ASUSTeK - ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement.

ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement technology is an intelligent picture control that allows you to customize the picture on the screen using predefined modes (controlled by the Fn + C key combination).

ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement Technology

For a series of laptops "Lamborghini VX1", as well as for the V6J, the manufacturer provides a one-thirty-day LCD Zero Bright Dot warranty, which entitles the owner of the laptop to replace the display in the support service if bright dots are found. To do this, you need a sales receipt or any other document confirming the fact of the purchase.

LCD Zero Bright Dot Warranty

The number of brightness gradations in ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is traditionally sixteen, when the lowest levels are set, what is visible on the screen is rapidly approaching "zero".

ASUS Lamborghini VX1:
brightness levels

With the help of a special device Pantone ColorVision Spyder and the OptiCAL ver. 3.7.8 the brightness and contrast of the monitor were measured. When powered from the mains and the battery, the brightness value was set to the maximum position, after which the test was started. When changing the power supply to a battery, its performance dropped significantly due to the default power saving systems installed in ASUS portable computers. The brightness values are quite impressive, which cannot be said about the contrast:

Values from the network:

contrast ratio: 40: 1;
brightness: 132.3 cd / m2.

Battery values:

contrast ratio: 41: 1;
brightness: 104.7 cd / m2

The laptop is equipped with an 87-key black keyboard. "Enter" of the classic L-shape. The cursor buttons are in line with the bottom of the keyboard, making them more likely to be pressed accidentally. The "Fn" key is located typically by ASUS in the lower left corner, which is not very convenient for those who often use the combinations "Ctrl + C", "Ctrl + V", because the risk of erroneous keystrokes increases, instead of Ctrl. There is a built-in numeric keypad and two dedicated Microsoft Windows buttons. One of them is located in the bottom row of the keyboard, to the right of the spacebar through the key and launches the "properties" menu or works similarly to right-clicking on any object. The second "Windows", which opens the "Start" menu, is located in the same place, symmetrically to the left of the spacebar. The function keys are slightly reduced. Home, PgUp, PgDn and End are vertically aligned on the right; Pause, Print Scrn, Ins and Del are aligned with the function keys. Latin letters are highlighted in white, Russian ones in pale green, function keys are colored blue (using the functions hidden under them is possible after pressing and holding Fn).

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: keyboard

Touchpad ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is the twin brother of its “colleague” at ASUS V6J. The color and "metallized" structure matches the surrounding surface. The touch panel is as close to black as possible and has a dedicated scroll area on the right side. There is no additional joystick for scrolling text. A distinctive feature of this Touchpad is the presence between the keys that replace the right and left buttons of a conventional mouse, when the laptop is turned on and the unit itself is not turned off, the original blue backlight.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: Touchpad

The Touchpad is locked by pressing a special key, the location of which will be described below. This process will be displayed on the screen as follows:

Locking the Touchpad

The entire front edge of the lower part of the laptop is literally drilled with tiny decorative holes with "smooth" bending "of the Touchpad, hiding two relatively loud stereo speakers underneath, thereby bringing the sound as close to the user as possible and at the same time making it possible to cover the stereo speakers with your hands. By pressing the keys "Fn" and "F10", "F11", "F12" together on the screen, this is displayed in the form of the following images:

Changing volume settings

On the left side of the strip, "riddled" with holes, there are status indicators duplicated on the top cover, plus one, which absolutely did not make sense to bring up (from left to right):

ASUS Lamborghini VX1 Status Indicators

Touch panel off indicator (lights up when the corresponding button is pressed);
Power indicator (blue when the laptop is on; blinking when the PC is in standby mode; when the computer is off or in sleep (STD) mode, the indicator is off);
Battery charging indicator (lights up when the battery is being charged; off - the battery is charged or completely discharged);
Bluetooth indicator (lights up when the Bluetooth function is activated);
Wireless light (blinks when transmitting or receiving packets using the built-in wireless adapter).

The visibility of this group of indicators is low, because light penetrates all the same tiny holes, though slightly larger in diameter than those surrounding them. It is possible to see the operation of the unit only in the immediate vicinity, and even then not from all angles.

Another group of status indicators, together with the laptop power button (illuminated by two blue LEDs), nestled next to the right hinge and pulled along the battery to the left, including:

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: status lights above the keyboard

Activity indicator (shows the computer is accessing storage devices: hard disk or optical drive);
Num Lock indicator for the numeric keypad (lit when the numeric keypad is activated);
Caps Lock indicator of fixation of the upper case (it is lit if the letters being dialed are transferred to the upper case);
Scroll Lock arrow keyboard indicator (lights when Scr Lk mode is activated, which allows some letter keys to be used to move the cursor).

Symmetrical to this group of status indicators, only at the left hinge, are the quick launch keys (from left to right):

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: keyboard shortcuts

Touchpad lock key (locks the touchpad when using an external mouse and helps to avoid accidental cursor movement while typing, when pressed, the corresponding indicator lights up, and the backlight between the left and right Touchpad keys goes out);
Power4 Gear +, a launch key for ASUS 'proprietary power saving utility Power4 Gear + (allows you to switch between various power saving modes that allow you to control many aspects of the laptop to improve performance or battery life, such as changing the processor frequency, screen brightness and power management schemes Windows). When using mains power, three modes of operation are available, when using battery power - seven;

Bluetooth key (pressing enables or disables the built-in Bluetooth function, the indicator lights up when turned on);
Internet access key (pressing leads to activation of the Internet browser);
Wireless LAN key, pressing which activates the wireless network.

The left side of the laptop is loaded with the following components (from left to right):

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: left view

Kensington lock port;
15-pin port for connecting an external D-sub monitor;
Four-pin IEEE1394 (FireWire) port, labeled "DV" (digital video port), and can be used in high-end digital equipment;
Infrared module port (IrDa);
26-pin ExpressCard / 54 connector;

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: ExpressCard Slot

Optical disc drive with activity indicator, eject button and emergency open hole.

On the right side of the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 are:

Hi-Speed USB (USB 2.0);
4-in-1 card reader (Memory Stick / Memory Stick Pro / MultiMedia Card / Secure Digital);

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: flash memory socket

S / PDIF digital output connector (headphone jack);
Microphone jack (Mic-Input);
Modem port (RJ-11);
Two high-speed USB ports (USB 2.0);
Connector for connecting a laptop to a local network (LAN RJ-45 port);
Power supply connector.

On the back of the laptop there is only a rechargeable battery that fits exactly between the hinges. Its height is absolutely identical to the thickness of the lower part of the laptop, which harmoniously completes the whole picture.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: rear view

"Newly made racing car" is equipped with a 5200 mAh battery. At the bottom of the battery are two rubber feet that support the partial load on the rear of the laptop.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: battery

Turning the laptop over, we find the following: covers of the CPU and RAM modules, hard disk and mini-PCI slot; battery block with two clamps (manual and spring); holder of the owner's personal card; reboot hole (in case the Ctrl + Alt + Del key combination does not work); decals with model and serial number of the operating system.

ASUS Lamborghini VX1: bottom

The cover of the combined compartment of the central processor and RAM hides under it two slots occupied by memory modules of 1024 MB each. This fact means that it is impossible to improve, namely to add more RAM, tk. 2048 is its maximum size.

What is inside

The "engine" of the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is a dual-core Intel Core Duo processor rated T2500 and a clock speed of 2.00 GHz, which is based on a 65 nm Yonah core with 2 MB of L2 cache combined for two cores.

Intel Core Duo T2500 in different energy modes

In addition to the traditionally used Enhanced Intel SpeedStep energy-saving technology, thanks to which the software and the laptop BIOS gain control over the CPU clock frequency multiplier, reducing it at times of incomplete load, there is Dynamic Power Coordination technology on board, with the help of which the cores can independently change power consumption depending on the current load on the processor, in the flesh until the second core falls into the Deep Sleep state, in other words, the minimum power consumption. Also, the Dynamic Cache Sizing technology is used - "dynamic resizing of the cache memory", which disables idle blocks. For a more detailed acquaintance with the device of Intel Core Duo processors, please refer to the following material - " Centrino Duo mobile platform review".

The NAPA platform also includes the Intel PRO / Wireless 3945ABG network adapter and the Intel Calistoga 945PM chipset. NMCs 945 family have the ability to work with high-speed DDR2 SODIMM modules, thus increasing memory bandwidth and reducing power consumption. The i945PM chipset is equipped with a PCI Express x16 bus for connecting an external video card. The ICH7-M microcircuit is used as the south bridge, the connection of the north bridge to which is carried out using a dedicated Direct Media Interface (DMI) bus. The Southbridge supports one Parallel ATA port, two Serial ATA ports, eight USB 2.0 ports and an integrated Intel High Definition Audio solution. In addition, it supports six PCI Express x1 lanes, which are supposed to be used to connect external devices. More detailed platform specifications can be found at manufacturer's website.

Intel 945PM Chipset

In addition to the powerful computing "engine", the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 has a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400VX graphics adapter with TurboCache support and 128 MB of hardware video memory made according to the 0.09 micron process technology, which significantly reduces the level of power consumption, designed specifically for thin, light and ultraportable solutions ... TurboCache allows the GPU to share the amount and bandwidth of dedicated video memory and dynamically available system memory, thereby increasing performance and graphics memory for a PC. Due to the fact that two 1 GB modules are installed in the laptop, each GeForce GO 7400VX can take up to 512 MB. The NVIDIA video adapter uses NVIDIA PureVideo technology, which provides high-quality HD video. Another power management technology, PowerMizer 6.0, optimizes power delivery and also reduces heat generation. More detailed technical characteristics of NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400 are summarized in the table, as well as they can be viewed at manufacturer's website:

The laptop is equipped with a Seagate Momentus ST9160821A 2.5 "form factor hard drive with a spindle speed of 5400 rpm and a volume of 160 GB. Also, the laptop is equipped with a MATSHITA UJ-832S optical DVD writer with the following speed characteristics:

Record:

CD-R / RW (24x / 10x);
DVD-R / RW (4x / 2x);
DVD + R / RW (4x / 2.4x);
DVD + R DL (2.4x);
DVD-RAM (2x).

Reading:

CD-R / RW (24x / 10x);
DVD-ROM (8x);
DVD-R / RW (4x / 4x);
DVD + R / RW (4x / 4x);
DVD + R DL (4x);
DVD-RAM (2x).

ASUS Lamborghini VX1 uses the fastest DDR2 RAM with a frequency of 667 MHz. Both slots are easily accessible, but this availability is irrelevant due to the fact that the installed two modules in total exhaust the entire possible memory limit. "Operative" works in a two-channel mode, as you can see by looking at the following screenshot:

Dual channel memory mode

During the Battery Eater Pro 2.60 test, after 30 minutes of operation in "classic" mode, the temperature values were taken from the laptop surface with an infrared thermometer (the room temperature was maintained at 22 degrees). A point with the maximum temperature was searched for on each of the surfaces. As a result, the following values were obtained:

LCD panel - 35 degrees;
Keyboard - 36 degrees;
The lower surface is 39 degrees.

And since ASUS Lamborghini VX1 and ASUS V6J have the same "base", then for greater clarity, below is a comparative heating diagram of individual laptop elements, from which it can be seen that the laptops are very close and in these indicators, the minimum difference can be attributed to measurement errors.

Below is a comparative table with detailed technical characteristics of the tested "mobile coupe" and ASUS V6J:

Testing methodology

Before starting testing, the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 had a formatted hard drive for the NTFS file system, then the operating system Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 (English version) with DirectX 9.0c package was installed and the drivers from the enclosed disk were installed. Also, Windows Media Encoder 9.0 was additionally installed in conjunction with the Windows Media Player 9.0 video playback program (for some tests, such as PCMark 2005 and SYSmark 2004 SE, Windows Media Player 10.0 was delivered separately).

During testing, the following parameters were set:

Energy saving services - disabled;
Sound card - disabled;
Network Services - Disabled;
The brightness of the screen is set to the maximum possible position;
Liquid crystal matrix resolution - maximum, 1400x1050;
"Docking the taskbar" (in the properties of the taskbar) - disabled;
"Automatic hiding of the taskbar" - enabled;
The desktop theme is "classic";
Wallpaper - disabled;
Screensaver - disabled;
Low security level set;
Pop-up Blocker - Disabled.

The only exceptions are two tests: when working with PCMark 2005, the desktop theme was returned to "Windows XP", and for the normal operation of SYSmark 2004 SE, all parameters were returned to the default state.

The tests were carried out in two modes by changing the settings for the power consumption control scheme. The first part took place when powered from the network (the "Always On" setting (in the Russian version of Windows), which provides the maximum performance of the laptop, and the battery life is accordingly minimal). The second part - when powered by a rechargeable battery (setting "Max Battery" ("Battery saving" - in the Russian version of Windows), in this case the battery life is maximum).

Two groups of tests were used:

1st group - tests for measuring system performance, which, in turn, consist of three subgroups:

Synthetic tests (SiSoftware Sandra 2005, SiSoftware Sandra 2007, PCMark 2004 1.3.0, PCMark 2005 1.1.0);
Performance tests in office and multimedia applications (SYSmark 2004 SE, Business Winstone 2004, Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004);
Tests for performance in games (3DMark 2003 3.6.0, 3DMark 2005 1.2.0, 3DMark 2006 1.0.2, Quake3, Quake4, Unreal Tournament 2003).

Group 2, consisting of one representative test to determine the duration of the autonomous operation of the laptop from the Battery Eater Pro 2.60 battery.

The Battery Eater Pro 2.60 test contains three operating modes:

Classic mode - uniform maximum load on the system (Classic);

And idle mode.

The first two perform the basic manipulations provided by the program. In "idle mode", in which the laptop's battery life is measured when the Battery Eater Pro 2.60 is completely unloaded, a DVD movie was played.

Those who follow the reviews of laptops on our site will immediately notice the changes in the "test bench". The first thing that has changed is the use of the new SiSoftware Sandra 2007 diagnostic package (the program is designed for remote analysis, testing and diagnostics of computers, servers, PDAs, smartphones, small home and office networks, as well as enterprise networks). The 2007 utility has an updated interface with improved functionality. The main features are as follows:

Support for 3 platforms (Win32 x86, Win64 x64, WinCE ARM) in a single installer;
13 benchmarks developed separately for each platform;
34 modules with detailed information about system components;
Official support for a huge number of different devices, thanks to direct cooperation with Intel, AMD, ATI, SiS and VIA;
Versions in 6 languages (Russian, English, German, French, Italian, Dutch) in a single installation program;
Lite version (free for personal and educational use).

The version of SiSoftware Sandra 2005 will be used for now, but with the accumulation of statistics on the latest version it will be excluded from testing.

Also added the SYSmark 2004 SE benchmark, aimed at identifying complex system performance under various typical load patterns. It simulates user experience aimed at solving specific problems in several of the most common applications, taking into account the possibilities of multithreading. At the output, the benchmark produces several indices showing the system performance demonstrated in various scenarios. SYSMark 2004 SE is primarily marketed as a benchmark application for benchmarking desktop systems. For this reason, this package also includes applications that are not quite typical as a typical load for mobile computers. That is why the benchmark results will be presented in "expanded" form, focusing separately on each type of load it creates.

Added synthetic package PCMark 2005, continuing the tradition of complex benchmarks of this line, like PCMark04, it uses elements of real applications as tests, which increases its value compared to "fully synthetic" benchmarks. A series of eleven mandatory tests of the performance of various components of the system leads to the calculation of the overall result in certain arbitrary units ("PCMarks"), based on the famous cartoon traditionally called "parrots" in the countries of the former "union". PCMark 2005 has features for testing system load when working with HD-video, audio encoding, and advanced capabilities for testing multi-threaded load on the processor and hard drive. The overall benchmark result is obtained by the formula: PCMark Score = 87 x (Geometric mean of main tests) where the geometric mean is calculated as (result 1 x result 2 x ...) / number of results.

The update also affected another product of Futuremark Corporation - 3Dmark. Now 3DMark 2005 and 3DMark 2006 will take part in testing laptops with discrete video solutions. What changes have occurred in 3DMark 2005 compared to the previous version - these are: no use of Shader Model 1.x, use only Shader Model 2.0x / 3.0; full compatibility with Shader Model 2.0; increased complexity of game tests (more than a million polygons per frame); using normal maps. New in 3DMark 2006: support for HDR, Uniform Shadow Maps, support for multi-core CPUs and focus on using Shader Model 3.0, though not completely - 2 of the four graphics tests work within Shader Model 2.0. 3DMark 2001SE Pro will be used, as before, only for integrated video.

And on top of all of the above, the new version of the Quake4 game will take part in testing along with the old one. Because a special demo video did not exist in nature at the beginning of the tests, then it was made by hand and will be used in each subsequent testing of laptops, thereby making it possible to compare the performance of different systems in absolutely equal conditions.

Testing

According to the established tradition, testing is opened by synthetic tests SiSoftware Sandra only now in two versions 2005 and 2007 and two PCMarks 2004 and 2005.
SiSoftware Sandra displays information about the computer and tests both the system as a whole and its individual components. PCMark is designed to measure the performance of a computer when working with office and related applications, including tests to determine the overall performance and performance of individual subsystems (CPU, memory, graphics capabilities, disk subsystem).

First, let's talk about the good old SiSoftware Sandra 2005 and PCMark 2004. The results of the processor tests are quite natural and predictable, they are fully proportional to the frequencies of the "hearts" installed in laptop computers. When switching to a rechargeable battery, thanks to artificial throttling when using the "battery saving" mode and plus under the influence of the included power saving systems, the processor frequencies drop to the minimum possible level of 1 GHz, as a result of which the values with a negligible error also become equal. The file system of both laptops is actually at the same level, since hard drives have similar characteristics, except for the volume. The memory system of ASUS Lamborghini VX1 wins slightly due to the use of more "RAM" operating in dual-channel mode. This fact, in addition to the higher frequency of the video adapter, also played a plus in PCMark 2004 in testing the graphics subsystem, making it possible to fully use TurboCache in NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400VX.

As for SiSoftware Sandra 2007 and PCMark 2005, the test results are very decent in both cases of power supply and behave like previous versions of programs, so it makes no sense to repeat the above. data statistics for these applications are not accumulated, then they are a kind of "starting point" for subsequent testing.

The Business Winstone 2004 test is designed to determine the performance of a computer when working with office applications (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Front Page, WinZip, Norton AntiVirus Professional Additional). Business Winstone launches several tasks at once, thereby realizing multitasking. The Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004 test is designed to determine the performance of a computer when working with multimedia applications (Microsoft Windows Media Encoder, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, NewTek LightWave 3D, Steinberg WaveLab, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX, Macromedia Director MX).

The results obtained in the process of passing the Business Winstone 2004 and Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004 tests are summarized in a table and for greater clarity are presented in diagrams:

Due to the fact that the systems ASUS Lamborghini VX1 and ASUS V6J are very similar, then the obtained values are predictable and directly close to their configurations. Due to the fact that the tested "car" is equipped with a more powerful "engine" together with dual-channel memory and a slightly more powerful GPU, it wins a little when powered from the mains. The results obtained when changing the power supply to the battery fall in accordance with the frequency drop and become practically the same minus all the same measurement errors.

Now let's test our "racing" laptop in the SYSmark 2004 SE benchmark, as mentioned above, simulating user experience in popular applications and actively using multitasking. And since SYSMark 2004 SE is primarily positioned as a benchmark application for determining the performance of desktop systems, and for this reason the benchmark results will be presented in "expanded" form, focusing separately on each type of load it creates.

In this case, we simulate the work of a user who, in the 3ds max 5.1 package, renders an image to a bmp file and at the same time prepares web pages in Dreamweaver MX. After the completion of these operations, the creation of 3D animation in vector graphic format is performed.

Because the system is loaded with rather "heavy" tasks, demanding on the computational resources of the processor, and the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 has a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo T2500 "stone", the result obtained during the test is quite justified and directly corresponds to the level of the CPU. When changing the power supply to a battery, for the same reasons as in previous tests, the values drop by almost half, exactly like the core frequency.

2D Creation simulates user experience in Premiere 6.5, which creates video from multiple raw clips and separate audio tracks. While waiting for the end of the operation, the user also prepares the image in Photoshop 7.01, modifying the existing image and saving it to disk. After completing the video clip, the user edits it and adds special effects in After Effects 5.5.

All three applications used are optimized for multithreading. And, consequently, the result shown by the dual-core architecture satisfies the tasks assigned to it.

This benchmark simulates the work of a professional webmaster. The pseudo-user unzips the website content from the zip file, while simultaneously using Flash MX to open the exported 3D vector graphics clip. The same user then modifies it to include other images and optimizes it for faster animation. The resulting movie with special effects is compressed using Windows Media Encoder 9 for streaming over the Internet. The website is then compiled in Dreamweaver MX, and in parallel, the system is scanned for viruses using VirusScan 7.0.

Again, we obtain values proportional to the frequency of the "engine" installed under the "hood".

In this case, when measuring performance, a scenario that is quite typical for an ordinary user is used. A person receives an email in Outlook 2002 that contains a collection of documents in a zip archive. While the received files are scanned for viruses using VirusScan 7.0, the user scans e-mail and makes notes on the Outlook calendar, then opens the corporate website and some documents using Internet Explorer 6.0.

The result turns out to be quite high, even when the power supply scheme is changed, it does not fall twice for one simple reason, in this benchmark the processor frequency is not as relevant as in previous applications.

In this benchmark, a hypothetical user edits text in Word 2002, and also uses Dragon NaturallySpeaking 6 to convert an audio file into a text document, which is already converted to pdf format out of the box using Acrobat 5.0.5. Then, when using the generated document, a presentation is created in PowerPoint 2002.

Here again, a high result is justified when powered from the mains; when switching to a battery, a drop in the processor frequency affects.

The operating model for the final SYSmark 2004 SE application is as follows: the user opens a database in Access 2002 and runs a series of queries. Documents are archived using WinZip 8.1. The query results are exported to Excel 2002 and a chart is built from them.

However, in this test, the result is somewhat underestimated. On battery power, the values return to their true size.

Due to the fact that both laptops that came to us are equipped with discrete graphics solutions NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400 only with different GPU frequencies, testing in 3Dmark was carried out in three versions: 3DMark 2003 3.6.0, 3DMark 2005 1.2.0 and 3DMark 2006 1.0 .2.

The 3DMark test program is a set of three-dimensional scenes based on its own graphics engine that load the video subsystem in various ways.

The results shown in 3DMark 2003, where we can compare two video solutions from NVIDIA with a difference in the name of two letters VX, indicate a slight advantage towards ASUS Lamborghini VX1. But it is impossible to give all the awards to the more efficient NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400 VX. do not forget that our today's hero has twice as much RAM, and even working in two-channel mode, which certainly also affects the values obtained.

As for 3DMark 2005 and 3DMark 2006, the results are quite acceptable and can also be considered a "starting point" for future comparisons and analyzes. It is also worth noting that the parameters of the graphics solutions were set to the level of maximum performance, and for this reason, there was no noticeable drop in the speed of video cards when changing the power mode.

Testing a laptop in Quake3 was carried out in two modes of setting the image quality:

The first mode settings are 640x480; 16 bit; Lighting: Vertex; Detail: Low; Texture Quality: 16 bit; Texture Filter: Bilinear;
Second mode settings - 1024x768; 32 bit; Lighting: Lightmap; Detail: High; Texture Quality: 32 bit; Texture Filter: Trilinear.

In Quake4, there was only one scheme - Overall quality: High; Resolution: 1024x768; Format 4: 3; Multi-core optimization: Yes. All other settings were set by default.

As in the previous gaming tests in Quake3, the victory for NVIDIA GeForce GO 7400 with VX added. It is simply impossible to evaluate and compare the results obtained in Quake4, because the demo video, due to the absence of the latter in nature today, was created independently, and, therefore, it will be possible to compare the high or low level of values only according to subsequent tests, i.e. the current results are nothing more than a "baseline". However, we note right away that the difference in the values from the mains and the battery is not great, the reason for this is the set maximum performance of the video card.

In today's latest graphics performance test on mains power, the ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is half a frame ahead. The processor frequency, coupled with dual-channel "RAM" and a slightly better video card, are confidently doing their job. However, as soon as the plug was removed from the socket, the results were almost equal, which is not surprising, since the systems are practically aligned with each other. As a summary to a series of higher-ranking tests, we can say one thing that ASUS Lamborghini VX1 fully justifies the status of a "racing coupe", albeit not the fastest in the world, but far from the last.

At the end of the test, we use the Battery Eater Pro 2.60 program, which shows the maximum distance in kilometers (hours and minutes, of course) that our Lamborghini can drive with a tank filled to the brim.

Testing was carried out at maximum screen brightness in the following modes:

Classic mode - uniform maximum load on the system;
Reader mode - emulation of reading a book (in the Reader "s test test mode, one page is rewound every 15 seconds);
Movie viewing mode (the movie was launched in Idle mode).

I must say a very, very impressive result for such a "sporty" configuration. All other things being equal, even a slightly "weaker" and theoretically less voracious "rival" ASUS V6J is left behind. Our "car" had enough fuel for a longer distance, almost four hours of non-stop measured movement, or 2.5, but at maximum speed.

Below are the diagrams of battery discharge under different operating modes:

Advantages and disadvantages of ASUS Lamborghini VX1

Advantages:

Striking design of the "racing" laptop;
Good performance in any application;
An abundance of wireless interfaces and the presence of a Bluetooth rodent with Lamborghini symbols;
Rich equipment;
Using a number of proprietary technologies from ASUSTeK to improve the image;
Long battery life.

Disadvantages:

"Specularity" of the display;
Markable cover;
Poor visibility of the system indicators when the top cover is open;
The high cost, and perhaps the cheapest Lamborghinis. ;O)

Conclusion

The ASUS-Lamborghini team has something to oppose to the already united by several years of joint titanic works in the field of "royal races" Acer-Ferrari. I think Ferruccio Lamborghini would now be happy at the thought that a racing car, even in the guise of a laptop computer with his name on the "hood", just tickles the nerves, is worthy of competition to his old enemy in the face of Scuderia Ferrari, surpassing him, even on a laptop field.

With the joint efforts of designers and engineers of the computer giant ASUSTeK and one of the leaders of the sports car industry, Automobili Lamborghini has managed to bring to life a very adventurous idea - to create a racing laptop. ASUS Lamborghini VX1, with all the bright and aggressive exterior elements, turned out to be a perfectly balanced "car" of the Premium segment, with a rich "inner world" and, as a result, with excellent performance. Plus, a nice bonus, the laptop turned out to be one of the most "long-playing" autonomously in its class. A serious minus, of course, is the price, but who has ever met a cheap Lamborghini. ; o)

ASUS Lamborghini VX1 is already on sale with a "bored engine", namely with an updated dual-core NAPA platform. This means that it is based on the core of Merom, and not on Yonah, as our today's "guest" has. It remains only to wait for a reciprocal step from Acer-Ferrari, made already in the form of presentations and announcements of a new "red car", which will never leave the box, making its potential owners nervous. All this suggests that the rivalry between Automobili Lamborghini and Scuderia Ferrari is only gaining momentum, and we will be the unwitting spectators of these laptop “races”.

The first two models from the ASUS Lamboghini family had 15-inch screens, and this year the world saw the baby Lamborghini Gallardo L-140 in the laptop world - the 12-inch ASUS Lamboghini VX3. Small, but daring! The laptop's specs are impressive: 3 GB of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 processor, a GeForce 9300M G video card (a kind of "double 9300") and a 320 GB hard drive. And besides, there is also an HDMI port. Even DTR laptops can envy such stuffing.

Design and ergonomics

For testing, as in the case of the VX2s model, we got a modification with a yellow case. From a subjective point of view, it is the yellow modification that will be the best solution for users who want to stand out. And the black "lambo" looks stylish, but too strict. When folded, the laptop lid is somewhat reminiscent of the hood of a car; for complete similarity, there are not enough indicators stylized as headlights, as was done in some older models of LG phones. The yellow cover quickly collects prints, but they are only noticeable when viewed from an acute angle.

Scratches are also reluctant to "stick" to the case, and if they do appear, they are also practically invisible. The side panels are equipped with decorative plastic inserts with a chrome surface. The bottom panel is made of smooth black plastic. Unlike the VX2, there is no rim emulation above the ventilation grill. But lining in the form of wheel disks are installed in the corners of the body, in the area of the connecting loops.

The work area is decorated with metal inserts and an overlay made of genuine leather, stitched with yellow threads, which is so reminiscent of the front panel and seats of a sports car. Unfortunately, the stitching threads get dirty quickly, and cleaning them is a very delicate and painstaking job.

The build quality is excellent, there is not a single defect, even the battery sits in its compartment like a glove, without the slightest backlash. When trying to twist and squeeze, the case creaks only in the area where the optical drive is installed - due to the small thickness of the bottom.

On the display lid, under the grille that mimics the air intake of a sports car, several indicators of the system status (network, battery status, status of the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapter) are hidden, which are invisible when turned off. At the top edge, in the center, there is an embossed bull logo - Lamborghini's trademark.

At the front, there is only one speaker, protected by a grill.

Behind, to the left of the battery, are the Rj-11 and RJ-45 communication ports, to the right is the VGA port.

On the right is a memory card reader, as well as an optical disc drive cover, a pair of standard audio jacks, one USB port, and a Kensington security hole.

The left panel houses a ventilation grill, three USB ports, an HDMI port, an ExpressCard / 54 slot, and a wireless switch.

Two bays are available on the bottom - for installing a hard drive and a common compartment for installing memory modules, a processor, and expansion cards.

Most of the keys are standard width (17.5 mm), but the width of several letter keys on the right and arrow keys have been reduced to 13.5 mm, which creates some inconvenience when typing, as well as in auto and flight simulator games. Keystrokes are quite soft and crisp, and the actuation sound is very quiet.

The touch panel is not a traditional rectangular, but a trapezoidal shape, its upper part is slightly wider. The arrow keys are also of a very specific shape. A fingerprint scan sensor is installed between the keys. It is set deep enough, so accidental touches accompanied by messages from the system about an incorrect fingerprint are practically excluded.

On the laptop lid mount, the shutdown buttons and an additional key for cycling power saving modes are symmetrically located. In the center there are indicators of the system status - power, battery charge, wireless interfaces mode, hard disk activity and a key indicator. A little to the left of the off key is the built-in microphone hole.

There is a camera on the top edge of the display - unlike the VX2s, it is not rotatable.

Display

The notebook is equipped with a 12.1-inch LCD matrix with WXGA resolution (1280x800 pixels), glossy finish and LED backlight. Thanks to the use of LEDs, the thickness of the cover is small, and the uniformity of the illumination is good - only the upper and lower edges of the matrix are slightly overexposed. The horizontal viewing angles are large, and the vertical ones are not always sufficient, and the tilt of the display has to be adjusted to correctly reproduce the colors. When viewed from a right angle, color rendition, contrast and clarity are not satisfactory. The backlight power level changes over a wide range, but stepwise. Too sharp change in brightness occurs when moving from the first to the second level, then the change occurs more evenly. There are 15 gradations in total, this is more than enough to select the optimal brightness level. In bright sunlight, the image dims slightly, but remains easy to read due to the fact that the matrix can work on reflected rays. External displays can be connected to a standard analog VGA port or digital HDMI - the latter is very rare on laptops with a screen diagonal of less than 14 inches.

Sound subsystem

The sound subsystem is based on the Realtek ALC 888 codec. The manufacturer's declared characteristics of the sound controller are 24 bit / 192 kHz, it is possible to connect eight-channel speaker systems in parallel with stereo. The signal-to-noise ratio of the DAC is up to 97 dB, and the ADC is up to 90 dB. Compatibility with EAX / Direct Sound 3D / I3DL2 / A3D and DTS is also declared. A more detailed description of the codec can be found on the manufacturer's website. The laptop has a built-in speaker. The developers decided that to reduce the weight and dimensions, the second speaker can be sacrificed, because for listening to music, most users will in any case choose headphones or external acoustics. The built-in speaker is only suitable for sounding system signals. Its frequency range is narrow, the sound is empty. Although it should be noted that even if there is bass in the melody and at maximum volume, the speaker does not "choke". In headphones or on an external speaker system, the sound is many times better, and the test package RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.0.6 (hereinafter RMAA) rated the audio section as "good". But still, connoisseurs of high quality sound should buy an external sound card with a USB or ExpressCard interface to the third "Lambo". Overall RMAA Results Operating mode: 16-bit, 44 kHz

Wireless interfaces

ASUS VX3 is equipped with Intel Wireless Pro 4965AGN adapter and Bluetooth module with EDR support. To control the wireless interfaces, standard OS tools are used, as well as dedicated control keys. Configuring the parameters of the local (including wireless) network is possible using the proprietary ASUS NetSwitch utility, which supports many self-created profiles. This makes it much easier to work if the PC is used in different networks, with different settings.

Noise level and thermal conditions

The cooling system is equipped with a fan with five fixed rotation speeds, but when the mode is changed, the rotation speed changes smoothly, without creating acoustic discomfort. During testing, the following noise levels were recorded - 33.1, 35.1, 38.5, 40.2 and 42.1 dB. That is, on average, the levels differ by 2 dB. The last two modes are used extremely rarely, for example, during video editing, when running resource-intensive games or archiving a large package of files. The LG optical drive is very quiet, and even the "crooked" drive did not make it "out-shout" the cooling system - 40 dB exactly. The measurements were taken at a distance of 20 cm from the center of the front edge of the laptop. The temperature of the air discharged by the cooling system at any load is always practically the same - 46.2-48.3 degrees, only the air flow rate changes. The maximum temperature of the keys is 29.1 degrees, the bottom - from 27 to 32 degrees. Only in the area of memory modules (and not the processor, as expected) did the temperature exceed 37 degrees. The measurements were taken at an ambient temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.

Performance

Due to the lack of direct competitors, Samsung R700 laptop was chosen as an opponent, as well as ASUS VX3, which is equipped with a more powerful video subsystem.

Power supply and autonomous operation

ASUSTeK has always pampered its customers with luxurious delivery sets, and even with the most affordable laptop models, the user always receives a bag and a mouse. The VX3 package includes, among other things, an additional 9-cell lithium battery with an impressive 7800 mAh capacity. The main battery is three-cell and has a capacity of 2400 mAh. The additional battery is large enough and protrudes 39 mm from the rear wall of the case, while the main battery is flush with the laptop case. Both batteries were tested with Battery Eater Pro 2.7 in Classic mode.

conclusions

ASUS-Lamborghini series laptops, like Lamborghini supercars, leave no one indifferent. In a cafe, in an office, just on the street - wherever he had to work with the VX3, he attracted the views of those around him. Everyone wants to look at the laptop itself and see what kind of logo is in the center of its lid. You often hear exclamations like "Yes, this is an ASUS" lambo "!" Needless to say, it's nice when your laptop is so interesting not only to yourself, but also to those around you. At this point, it is worth stopping the rave reviews and clearly list - what is good and what is not very good (the hand will not rise to apply "bad" for the characteristics of the VX3) laptop ASUS Lamborghini VX3. Minuses: the only speaker with low sound quality, slight illumination of the upper and lower edges of the matrix, several narrow keys. Pros: stylish and striking design, good build quality, four USB ports, HDMI connector, LED screen backlighting, low case temperature, relatively low noise level, high performance, smart package (including two batteries with a total capacity of 10 200 mAh) and… price. Yes, yes, its considerable cost is also a plus, because powerful "kids" are usually very expensive, and often more expensive than the hero of the review. Among the 12-inch models for the ASUS Lamborghini VX3, it is difficult to find a worthy competitor in terms of performance, so the laptop rightly deserves a distinction from 3DNews. We are grateful to the representative office of ASUS in Ukraine for the equipment provided.

The central air intake, located directly under the fan, is duplicated by several auxiliary ones that open into the same cavity in the case where the processor and other heating components are located. Thus, overlapping one or even two holes does not threaten overheating, and it is possible to close all three at the same time only on purpose.

Sound

The built-in speakers are located under the grill panel at the front of the chassis, on the top edge of the chassis. That is, the sound is directed towards the user, and not towards the surface on which the laptop stands. Coupled with not the quietest speakers, this gives an excellent volume, which will be sufficient even in large and relatively noisy rooms. As for the sound quality, it is slightly above average for notebook speakers.

Of course, if you want to get really high-quality sound, you should use an external speaker system, since the laptop is equipped with a digital S / PDIF output.

Screen

The ASUS Lamborghini VX1 uses a 15-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 4: 3, which will undoubtedly delight fans of the classic format, but somewhat inconsistent with the positioning of the Lamborghini VX1 as a multimedia laptop. The screen has a high resolution - 1400x1050 pixels. Thanks to the fine grain, the picture looks very smooth, without the pronounced ladder characteristic of 15-inch displays with a resolution of 1024x768.

The contrast and brightness of the matrix are high enough, making the image very juicy and pleasing to the eye. We were also pleased with the speed of reaction. But the viewing angles are not very good, even at a tilt of about 30 degrees, the colors are strongly distorted. As in most of the latest ASUS models, it uses a "glass" (Glare) screen coating.

Internal organization

CPU

The Core Duo T2500 processor is perhaps the most frequently reviewed CPU from the Intel Core family. The first time we met with him was when we reviewed the Acer TravelMate 8204WLMi (see the review “Acer TravelMate 8200 - BMW among notebooks”, and since then he comes to visit us for the fifth time.

    Excellent design, build quality is also excellent, materials used are very good. He pulls all his applications and games for 5+. Works silently, does not heat up at all. The display is just excellent (nowadays, few places else use Full HD on laptops). About the sound of the speakers, I can say that it is pretty good for a laptop (but I still listen to music on a 5.1 system) Believe me, if there are good speakers and a laptop connected to a plasma is just a great option - a replacement for everything)))

    A lot of nice features and nishyachki, such as adjustable keyboard backlight, multitouch (like on the phone you can zoom in / out with two fingers), nice design, good screen (compared to the old HP), quite suitable for modern games, many convenient shortcut keys, almost no heating (except for games, but even that is relatively weak, although I will still buy a cooling pad), a quiet keyboard, for example, compared to many acer. Ventilation grilles not only at the bottom, but also at the back.

    handsome. great design. leather panel. does not heat up at all. very well thought out case, cooling. when unpacking, the lower jaw falls off) for the gland does not differ in anything special. but this is rather a disadvantage.

    Excellent build quality, expensive materials, performance, beautiful body, bright display, quietness, does not heat up, excellent, expensive packaging ...

    Due to the fact that the battery sits down very quickly, it was necessary to keep it constantly on the charge. A year passed, everything inside was fused and covered with erosion. I handed over to the service, 16 thousand repairs.

    8 years ago

    Of the shortcomings, I can single out a quickly discharging battery (for example, it only lasts for 1 ride on a peregrine falcon (4 hours) with active work or watching a couple of films in low backlight and with reduced performance parameters. Weight, if you decide that system performance is above all for you - then you will forget about the weight right away (I myself carry it around the city and have already got used to its 4kg behind my back.) In principle, if you pack everything in a branded bag, it turns out by weight like a travel bag with clothes))) a set of 5+ kg. Another important point. Sometimes firewood flies to the backlight and additional keys ... but this is treated))

    Sits down quickly. If you turn on the most economical mode, it keeps about 3 hours, if you turn on all the bells and whistles, then a little over an hour. Gloss, prints remain everywhere. It was hard to find the bag. As a result, it fits into the selected one without gaps. The disadvantages include a lot of exercise and considerable weight. At first it was unusual with the resolution, nevertheless it is large, and the screen is not so large, but I got used to it quickly. During conferences on Skype, the microphone often makes a "robot voice". Often, but not always, and may be related to the overall load at a particular moment. The keyboard flexes a little if you type very quickly and emotionally.

    Purely subjective: All the characters on the keyboard are of the same color, the huge weight of the device itself and (the saddest thing) the power supply. The power supply socket is located mediocre and inconvenient. And the plug itself is upright, and not, as usual for Asus, L-shaped. And a glossy touchpad!

    1. Really weakly holds a charge. 2. An empty kit (no mouse, no case). 3. Huge charger.

    8 years ago

    have not yet been identified. but in Europe, this model comes with a mouse in the kit, but in our country (at home) it seemed to be taken out of the box, because there is a free compartment in the box where the laptop is (you can watch the mouse in all its glory in the kit on YouTube), I had a mouse to buy separately (also with icons like on a laptop) costs around 1400r.

    1. The speakers cannot boast of a cool sound (although, it is unlikely that fans of high-quality sound will listen to music from laptop or mobile devices at all, there are speakers or good headphones for this, so I do not consider the speakers to be such a gross drawback). 2. Marked case. 3. Not the best location of the sockets for the power cord and VGA, HDMI.

    8 years ago

    for a couple of months exploit - not yet. Do not build illusions - the car weighs almost 4 kilograms, personally it heats up quite strongly, although the cooling system controls the temperature quite well. But it heats up - consider this when buying. The back part protrudes beyond the limits of the screen rotation by almost 5 cm - so I need a bag under 17, I bought under 18.5 with a margin. The power supply is quite large. System performance on Windows 7 - 5.9 bottleneck screw. The battery is only for show and no more - to sit down very quickly - working on it the video seems to go to the primary, the main vidyuha will start only when it is connected to the network

    the battery runs out quickly (compared to the previous HP). quiet sound. the space bar is often not pressed, apparently if I click on the edges of the key. there should not be such a beech, where everything, in theory, should be thought out. after delivery by courier and unpacking, it was found that the keyboard was not fully snapped into the case. another point that strained me, a huge charger. although I could be wrong. sony found a charger of the same size. charging socket in the middle of the right side of the beech. very uncomfortable.

    Heavy, large power supply, easily soiled case, no mouse and bag included, that's all.

ASUSTeK Computer has recently introduced a new Lamborghini VX7 gaming laptop. The design of this device was developed in collaboration with the designers of the Automobili Lamborghini car stable. This is not the first collaboration between the two giants. Earlier we already had the opportunity to get acquainted with the fashion laptops of the ASUS Lamborghini series. The latest was the ASUS Eee PC VX6 Lamborghini subnotebook. By the way, VX6 and VX7 are very similar in design. This is not surprising, because the design of both devices is based on the Murcielago LP640 sports car.

So, this fifteen-inch laptop will delight you not only with its outstanding appearance, but also with amazing performance. The device is equipped with a top-end quad-core Intel Core processor of the Sandy Bridge family, a video card from NVIDIA, hard drives with a total capacity of 1.5 TB (you can install HDD + SSD) and up to 16 GB of RAM. The laptop may have an integrated Blu-ray drive. Everything is done according to the latest computer technology. This is not surprising, because the ASUS Lamborghini VX7 laptop is the brainchild of great companies.

Design

There are quite a few laptops with powerful hardware, but not many can boast of a truly interesting design. ASUS Lamborghini VX7 is a laptop that can hardly be called “ordinary”. The design of this device was developed in collaboration with representatives of Lamborghini, a manufacturer of luxury sports cars. Everyone has heard about this concern. The beauty and power of the car of the Italian corporation fascinates everyone and everything. The VX7 is based on the Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 sports car. The similarities between this car and the new ASUS laptop are evident throughout. By the way, the car itself was first presented at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. Alas, the Lamborghini Murciélago series was discontinued at the end of 2010. Let's assume that the ASUS Lamborghini VX7 is part of the glorious history of Murciélago.

So, the cover of the ASUS Lamborghini VX7 is made in the same style as the hood of the Murciélago LP640. It bears the Automobili Lamborghini logo. The protrusions and curvature of the lid resemble the features of a supercar, the aggressiveness and harshness of the model can be seen with the naked eye. On the rear edge there are two ventilation grilles, above them there are two red LED strips (imitation of a car brake light). The rear of the supercar is made in the same style.

The similarities between this laptop and the car are noticeable not only in the exterior. The interior decoration of the laptop also emphasizes the high status of the model. So, the under-palm area is covered with leather (like the interior of the Murciélago LP640). Above, above the keyboard, there is a decorative perforated grille, under which the speakers of the audio system are hidden. The symmetry of the interior gives the laptop a sophisticated and elegant look.

The build quality of this device is just excellent. No squeaks, bends or backlash will be observed. ASUS Lamborghini VX7 is available in two colors. If you are a bright personality and want to stand out favorably against the background of the "gray" mass, then the orange color of the model is more suitable for you. However, with the VX7, you will not go unnoticed in any case. Even if you buy a black laptop.

Display and sound

Such a device cannot be equipped with a budget matrix. The display of this device is characterized by the highest brightness and clarity. The diagonal of the screen with LED backlight is 15.6 inches. The resolution of the matrix is 1920 x 1080 pixels (Full HD), the aspect ratio is 16: 9. The image on the ASUS Lamborghini VX7 feels deep and realistic. Heroes of modern computer games now and then jump out of the screen! And at your leisure, you can empathize with the heroes of movies, because watching HD content on a high-contrast widescreen matrix is so interesting and exciting!

The viewing angles of the display are absolutely standard. They are slightly larger horizontally, and less vertically. Due to the design features, the display cover can be deflected no more than 130 degrees. By the way, the display frame looks a little ridiculous. She looks kind of wide.

The sound system of the laptop is represented by two built-in speakers and a digital microphone. The Azalia sound chip supports the so-called 3D effect (surround sound). By and large, these are just big words. Of course, the ASUS Lamborghini VX7 will sound better than any average laptop, but the audio system of a laptop cannot be compared with external acoustics.

Keyboard and touchpad

The laptop is equipped with a full-size island-style keyboard. The buttons are spaced 2 mm apart. The keyboard backing is made of glossy black plastic. This is not very practical, because such a surface quickly gets buried and covered with dust. Square matte keys have excellent mechanical properties, they work well. Traditionally for gaming devices, the W-A-S-D buttons are marked with arrows (to control the character in games).

The touchpad is shaped like an inverted trapezoid. The perimeter of the touch pad is made of brushed metal. The panel itself has a matte surface with a vertical scroll bar highlighted on the side. In addition, the touchpad recognizes a large number of multi-gestures. Two separate metal buttons have a clear actuation moment, when pressed, a characteristic sonorous sound is emitted.

Processor and performance

The collaboration with the Lamborghini brand simply obliges this laptop to be as powerful as its prototype. Equipping the ASUS Lamborghini VX7 with mediocre components is a crime. Therefore, ASUSTek has equipped the device with only the most powerful components. The processor Intel Core i7-2630QM with a frequency of 2 GHz will be responsible for the speed of the device. It is based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and supports Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies, which can boost the frequency to 2.9 GHz.

The Core i7-2630QM comes with integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, which should be faster than older Intel HD Graphics in Arrandale design processors. In addition, the improved dual channel DDR3 memory controller resides on the same die as the CPU, so it is used by both the processor and the graphics card. The L3 cache is 6 MB.

The graphics in the laptop will be handled by a discrete graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M with video memory of the GDDR5 standard. This adapter is among the ten most powerful mobile graphics cards. Any modern computer game with a GTX 460M will simply "fly". Both Metro 2033 and Mafia 2 will run at the highest settings and details.

For data storage, two hard drives with a total capacity of 1.5 TB can be used. The official website of ASUS says that it can be hard drives of various sizes and different spindle speeds: 500 GB (7200 rpm), 640 GB (5400 rpm), 750 GB (5400 rpm, 7200 rpm). min). Information can also be stored on a HDD + SSD hybrid. The volume of the solid state drive is 4 GB.

The amount of DDR3-1333 RAM can be up to 16 GB. There are 4 memory slots for this.

Ports and communications

The ASUS Lamborghini VX7 is purely a gaming laptop, so the port selection on this mobile PC looks to be expected. There is a microphone input, an output for external acoustics (S / PDIF), a VGA video output, an HDMI interface, a USB 3.0 port, three USB 2.0 ports and an RJ-45 connector (local area network). The multi-format card reader is capable of recognizing 8 types of memory cards: SD, Mini-SD, MS, MS Pro, MS Duo, MS Pro Duo, xD, MMC. The laptop can come with one of three optical drives: Super-Multi DVD, Blu-ray Writer, Blu-ray reader. The display frame houses a two-megapixel webcam.

Wi-Fi 802.11n and Bluetooth V2.1 + EDR adapters (optional) are responsible for access to wireless networks.

The Lamborghini VX7 comes with an eight-cell battery with a capacity of 5200 mAh.

Conclusion

ASUS Lamborghini VX7 is more than just a laptop. This device is designed for the real gamer. And it's not just the laptop stuffing. The very appearance suggests that "under the hood" of this device is hidden incredible power. The VX7 is designed in collaboration with Lamborghini. The sports car Murciélago LP640 was taken as a basis. So, the top-end second-generation Intel Core processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460M graphics card, 16 GB of RAM and a spacious hard drive - all this confirms the seriousness and aggression of the model.
