Thanks to its 80.6 mm width, the device looks proportional. This model received most of the positive reviews due to its low thickness. The case is quite narrow - only 8.5 mm. As for the mass of the smartphone, it is in the middle range (150 g). The designers of this company, despite the rather large size, were able to create a convenient device, therefore, according to many buyers, they can be proud of it. When interacting with the phone, the user does not feel discomfort. The device lies well in the hand. It is convenient to use it.
The layout of the controls is standard. On the front panel, in the upper part, there is a front camera, a sensor, a speaker hole. Three touch keys are displayed under the screen. On the back, the engineers placed the main camera lens, flash and noise canceling microphone. All three of these elements are at the top. The name of the One Touch line flaunts under them. At the bottom there is a large speaker output hole. There is also a magnet for attaching the cover-cover. At the bottom of the case is a small recess used for the stylus. On the right side there is a connector for installing micro SIM cards. Below it is the lock key. There is also a swing for adjusting the volume. Many users paid attention to its location. It is worth noting that the manufacturer in this model has bypassed rival firms, since such characteristics were still a novelty for the average level of devices.
The designers were also worried about the protection of the display. It is covered with DragonTrail glass. Due to the fact that it is covered with a special oleophobic coating, users will not have problems with the accumulation of fingerprints.
IPS-matrix provides wide viewing angles. There are no problems with brightness. The smartphone is convenient to use both in a dark room and outdoors in bright sun. If necessary, in the settings, you can select the brightness adjustment in automatic mode... There is a multi-touch function, which is designed for 5 touches made at the same time.
A huge advantage for this phone model is the thin bezel. Its width is about 2 mm. This gives the impression that the screen completely occupies the entire space of the front panel.
Autonomy
The phone "Alcatel One Touch Hero" has decent results and according to the criterion autonomous work... The manufacturer used a lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 3400 milliamps per hour. It should be noted that such a battery provides at least 18 hours of talk time. For those who like to listen to music, this device is perfect, since the battery in this state will work for 24 hours. If you put your smartphone into standby mode, you can expect about 500 hours of operation.
In their reviews, users 100% agree with the characteristics presented by the manufacturer. If the device is used in a combined mode, then it will need to be charged no more than once every two days. Performance
The "heart" of "Alcatel One Touch Hero" is the Chinese processor MediaTek. The MT6589 model operates at a frequency of 1500 megahertz. Thanks to this indicator, this chipset deserves the Turbo title. It is based on four computational modules. Each type is Cortex-A7. The main processor is paired with the PowerVR SGX544 MP graphics accelerator.
Users have noticed that there are no impossible tasks for this smartphone. It copes well with all resource-intensive applications, and also easily runs "heavy" games. This result was achieved due to the fact that the manufacturer has integrated 2 GB of RAM. The system takes about half. The rest is tailored to the needs of the user. Considering that there are two modifications on sale, the amount of integrated memory will be different. The device, which works with only one SIM, has 8 GB installed. But in a two-SIM device, there is twice as much memory.
Camera
The manufacturer used a 13-megapixel sensor as the main optics module for Alcatel One Touch Hero. There is a flash and autofocus. However, as users have noticed, the quality of the images does not reach the declared one. This is displayed in low detail. To achieve best quality does not work even during the day, in good lighting.
The front module did not please users either. Unfortunately, a 2 megapixel sensor is used as a selfie camera. There is no need to talk about the quality of these pictures. Naturally, noise, blur and weak color rendition are clearly visible in the frame.

The smartphone goes on sale in a small cardboard box. A rectangular box made of simple, unvarnished cardboard cannot be called chic, but it does not cause rejection either. There is no lurid color, there is no overload of information either, everything is quite neat and laconic.
Found in the box: charger, Micro-USB cable, a wired headset and some papers. The headphones are equipped with in-ear gel ear pads and a regular, non-noodle-like wire that constantly tends to get tangled. No additional accessories in the form of covers and the like included flagship smartphone they didn't invest at the factory, which is a pity - for a Chinese, this device is not so cheap, one could have taken care of additional "goodies".
Appearance and usability
In terms of its external data, the smartphone is very good: comfortable dimensions, balanced weight, neat appearance, bright but non-irritating multi-colored back covers, reliable assembly, high-quality materials - all this is Alcatel One Touch Idol X. Frankly speaking, the smartphone liked much more than the recently reviewed Fly Luminor IQ453: it was clearly made with a tilt under the already popular products of such brands as Apple and Sony, and Alcatel One Touch Idol X has no claims to someone else's account - the design is simple, cheerful, light-looking, spontaneous and distinctive, and it is precisely this independence from other people's opinions that it commands respect.
In addition, the device is not devoid of its own "opinion" in terms of the technical arrangement of the case: I really liked the way the developers implemented the method of installing the SIM-card. More precisely, even two SIM cards: the monoblock case of Alcatel One Touch Idol X 6040D has one slotted slot on both sides, but the way of opening their covers is non-standard. There are no hidden buttons and keys that have set the teeth on edge, and a paper clip is not needed. The covers of both slots can be easily opened without special picks, you just need to press on one of the edges of the cover, which has a magnetic latch, and it immediately opens unhindered access to the SIM-card - a very convenient solution, reminiscent of the first Nokia Lumia devices.
The smartphone lies comfortably in the hand: due to the small width of the case, achieved by thin frames around the screen (no more than 3 mm), very small thickness (7.7 mm) and, most importantly, the non-glossy, matte, rough back cover, the device fits well in the palm and it holds well there. Taking into account the recently increased standards for dimensions mobile devices that have become the norm, the Alcatel One Touch Idol X can even be called neat and not too big. For a woman's hand, it is definitely also quite suitable, and the design of this line of smartphones can definitely be classified as unisex.
The materials of manufacture are plastic, there is no metal here. There are two types of plastic: matte, but hard (no soft-touch effect) on back cover and shiny lacquered on the sides. The plastic on the sides has the texture of a roughly sanded material, but it still feels smooth to the touch and looks shiny due to the varnish layer.
The back cover is non-removable, access regular means you cannot access the battery, and there is no memory card slot at all. More precisely, microSD slot it is provided, as we have already said, in the 6040 version of the smartphone, and in this (6040D) it is replaced by an additional slot for a second SIM card. By the way, it would be appropriate to immediately notice that one of the slots can only work with SIM-cards of the MTS operator - such a small injustice. But in the second slot, you can insert any card.
In addition to the two SIM-card slots covered with magnetic covers on the side faces, there is also a paired volume control key, as well as connectors: Micro-USB at the bottom, and a 3.5 mm audio output on the top.
In the same place, at the top, the power button is also installed, which is a noticeable disadvantage of the device - the body itself is too big already in order to comfortably reach the power button with the fingers of the hand holding the smartphone. Probably, you could still fit the lock key on one of the side faces.
The landscape of the rear surface is made up of a camera window slightly protruding from the plane, a single-section LED flash and a row of small holes in the lower part, which makes up the speaker grill.
The front panel is completely covered protective glass resistant to scratches. It is stated that here, as in Oppo smartphones, not the usual Corning Gorilla is used, but a Japanese competing solution called Asahi Glass Dragontrail. Let us repeat that the thickness of the side frames from the edge of the screen to the edge of the body is a little less than 3 mm, which is a very good indicator. The majority of users who first take Alcatel One Touch Idol X in their hands immediately note this moment.
Below the screen is a block of buttons for controlling the system and applications. The buttons, of course, are touch-sensitive, have a bright whitish backlight, the duration of which cannot be changed in any way.
There are no rubber pads, protective bumpers or at least a hook for a strap on the hand here - we have before us a typical pampered city dweller, designed for operation in "greenhouse" conditions.
And finally, traditionally, about the color options: this smartphone, unlike the Fly Luminor IQ453, presented in only one black color, has a much more varied range of body colors. At foreign exhibitions there are samples of almost all colors of the rainbow, but in our market, apparently, only three main ones are officially represented: red, black and yellow. There are no functional differences between the models of different colors, and the front panel under the glass is the same black for all.
Screen
Smartphone Alcatel One Touch Idol X is equipped with a touch-sensitive IPS-matrix measuring 62 × 110 mm with a diagonal of 127 mm (5 inches), a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels (which gives a very high pixel density - 440 ppi).
The brightness of the display has both manual and automatic adjustment, the latter is based on the operation of the light sensor. The multitouch technology here allows you to simultaneously process up to 10 simultaneous touches - seemingly not too much in demand, but, nevertheless, a noticeable difference from the Fly Luminor IQ453, which, for some reason, has only five-finger control. The smartphone also has a proximity sensor that locks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear.

Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" sections, carried out a detailed examination using measuring instruments. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.
The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, there is a very effective antiglare filter, surpassing the Google Nexus 7 2013 in reducing the brightness of reflection. The doubling of reflected objects is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen. On the outer surface of the screen there is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (very effective, but slightly worse than the Google Nexus 7 2013), so fingerprints are removed much more easily and appear at a slower rate than in the case of regular glass.
When the white field was displayed on the whole screen, the maximum brightness value was about 470 cd / m², the minimum - 80 cd / m². The maximum brightness is high enough, which, given the high efficiency of the anti-reflective filter, will provide excellent readability even on a sunny day outdoors. True, in complete darkness, the minimum brightness may seem excessive. There is an automatic brightness control by the light sensor (it is located to the right of the front camera). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. In complete darkness in automatic mode, the brightness is reduced to 108 cd / m2 (a bit too much), in an office lit with artificial light, the brightness is set at 206 cd / m2 (acceptable), in a brightly lit environment (corresponds to lighting on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight light) rises to 470 cd / m2 (which is to be expected). As a result, this function works adequately, although in the dark the brightness could be lower. At low brightness, there is some modulation of brightness, but its amplitude is small, and the frequency is tens of kilohertz, so it is impossible to visually see the screen flickering, and the presence of such modulation can in no way affect the comfort of working with this smartphone.

The screen has good viewing angles without inverting tints and without significant color shift, even with large gaze deviations from the perpendicular to the screen. For comparison, we present photographs at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen, on which the same images are displayed on the screens of Alcatel One Touch Idol X and LG G Pro Lite Dual D686 (it is larger), while the brightness of both screens is set to about 200 cd / m².
Black and white field:
From this photo, we can judge about the preservation of color balance in the Alcatel smartphone and that it has a slightly lower brightness drop than the LG D686.
It can be seen that at this angle the colors are better preserved at Alcatel.
When deviated diagonally, the black field lightens quite a bit and takes on a red-violet tint. The photo from LG D686 for comparison shows this (the set brightness of the white areas is the same for both screens!):
From a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is acceptable. The contrast is high - about 935: 1. The response time for the transition black-white-black is 19 ms (10 ms on + 9 ms off). The transition between gray tones of 25% and 75% (based on the numerical value of the color) and back takes 27 ms in total. The gamma curve plotted at 32 points did not reveal any blockage in highlights or shadows, and the exponent of the approximating power-law function is 2.05, which is lower than the standard value of 2.2, while the real gamma curve noticeably deviates from the power-law dependence:
Due to the aggressive dynamic adjustment of the backlight brightness in accordance with the nature of the displayed image (on light images, the brightness increases, on dark images, it decreases), the obtained dependence of brightness on the hue (gamma curve) does not correspond to the gamma curve of a static image, since the measurements were carried out with sequential full-screen grayscale output. For this reason, we carried out a number of tests - determining the contrast and response time, comparing the black illumination at angles - when displaying special templates, and not single-color fields in full screen. As an example, let's give a graph of the transition from black to white and vice versa for the case of displaying fields in full screen (100%) and with alternating display of black and white fields on half of the screen (line 50/50%, average brightness does not change and dynamic adjustment does not work ):
You can see how the brightness is adjusted stepwise and that in 0.5 s it does not reach its maximum value.
The color gamut is sRGB:
The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components together. As a result, the colors visually have a natural saturation.
The balance of shades on the gray scale is not bad, since the color temperature is even higher than the standard 6500 K, but the deviation from the spectrum of an absolutely black body (delta E) is significantly less than 3, which is considered an excellent indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, the color temperature and delta E change little from shade to shade, which has a positive effect on the visual assessment of the color balance. (The dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since there the color balance does not have of great importance, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)
The screen has a high maximum brightness and an effective anti-glare filter, so you can use your smartphone without any problems even on a clear sunny day. But in complete darkness, the minimum brightness may seem excessive, for example, for comfortable reading from the screen. Also, the automatic brightness adjustment, although it changes the brightness in accordance with the external conditions, however, in a not very bright environment, it sets the brightness slightly higher than a sufficient level, which will lead to some waste of energy for the screen backlight. The advantages of the screen include a very good oleophobic coating, no flickering and no air gap in the layers of the screen, high contrast, excellent black stability to deviation from the perpendicular to the screen, sRGB coverage and a fairly good color balance. In sum, and at the moment, this gives a top-level screen.
Sound
In terms of sound, the smartphone is average. Both speakers emit reasonably clear, but no discernible presence low frequencies sound mixed with some barely noticeable metallic notes. However, this does not really affect the perception of sound during a conversation - the voice of a familiar interlocutor, timbre and intonation remain recognizable. At this point, I would like to especially note one point: in their reviews on the forums, users who have already bought an Alcatel One Touch Idol X often complain about some extraneous clicks during telephone conversations... Moreover, it is the interlocutors on the other side of the wire that hear them. We diligently checked our copy many times for such clicks: as a result, none of the interlocutors listening on the other side could find any extraneous sounds. The sound is clear, maybe a little ringing metal, but completely free of extraneous "impurities". Obviously, here we are talking about a software flaw: perhaps users who have discovered such a problem should attend to updating the firmware or take the device for repair, because this problem, as it turned out, is not widespread.
By the way, the Alcatel smartphone offers the ability to record a conversation from the line with standard built-in means, which is extremely rare now. Both parties are recorded, the conversation can be listened to by clicking on the icon with a magnetic tape right in the call list opposite a specific call with time and date - everything is organized extremely conveniently, really worthy of praise. In fact, such functionality should be an integral part of any intercom, and even more so modern smartphone... Surprisingly, such rich functionality is found in Chinese flagship solutions much more often than in generally recognized A-class brands. To be fair, it should be noted that Fly Luminor IQ453 is also able to record telephone conversations of both parties. The Alcatel One Touch Idol X also has a separate ordinary voice recorder, which serves only for creating sound notes, and also found an FM radio.

Camera
Alcatel One Touch Idol X is equipped with two digital camera modules as standard. Front-camera here it has a 2 megapixel sensor, takes photos with a maximum resolution of 1792 × 1008, video can be taken with a maximum resolution of 720p (the Fly Luminor IQ453 also has 720p).
The main rear camera is equipped with a 13-megapixel module. By default, the camera shoots with a wide aspect ratio, and in the maximum resolution (13 megapixels) you must switch manually, then the images are obtained with a resolution of 4224 × 3168. The picture quality of this camera is not flagship, but quite decent. The flaws that are quite standard for cameras of inexpensive smartphones are noticeable: aggressive noise reduction in places, noticeable sharpening, a drop in sharpness towards the edges of the frame. The flash is also not very fine-tuned and does not allow you to shorten the shutter speed, but nevertheless, in the absence of lighting, it helps. The center sharpness of the camera is very good.
Perhaps one of the obvious and few advantages of this camera allows us to record it as documentary. I would like to note that the camera shoots quite well, has good sharpness and moderate noise - but only in the central part of the frame, towards the edges all these advantages are gradually lost.
The camera can shoot video, it does it without visible delays or artifacts in the image, there is only one mode and resolution for shooting to choose from. An example of a test video is shown below. Videos are saved in a 3GP container (video - MPEG-4 Visual ( [email protected]), sound - AAC LC, 128 kbps, 48 kHz, 2 channels).

There are very few settings for shooting control - basically, the possibilities are at the mercy of automation. Shooting can be done both by clicking on the virtual icon on the screen, and by using the hardware volume control swing - at this moment it works as a photo button. You cannot take photos while filming here.
Telephone part and communications
The smartphone works as standard in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks; there is no support for fourth generation (LTE) networks. In general, the network capabilities of a smartphone are currently minimal: the 5 GHz Wi-Fi range is not supported, and there is no support for NFC technology either. You can organize a wireless point via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channels, there is a Wi-Fi Direct mode.
No freezes or spontaneous reboots / shutdowns were observed during testing. The screen is large, so the drawing of letters and numbers of virtual keyboards is quite comfortable to operate. The layout and arrangement of the keys are standard: here you can switch languages by clicking on the button with the image of a globe, there is no separate top row with numbers here, you need to switch the layout from letters to numbers and back all the time.
The implementation of work with two SIM-cards is standard for the platform: there can be only one active conversation, any of the cards can work in both 3G and 2G modes. In a separate section of the settings, you can assign default conditions to each of the SIM-cards, so that, for example, voice communication is always carried out using the first one, and data transmission - through the second SIM-card. In the case of the device officially sold on the Russian market, the first slot is locked for working only with MTS SIM cards, however, users have already learned to bypass this limitation at the software level, it is enough to google the topic.

OS and software
As a system, the software platform Google Android version 4.2.2 and a third-party user graphical interface are used, which significantly changes the appearance of video and brings noticeable changes to the internal structure and the entire organization of work with the system as a whole. Here, like many Chinese products, there is no application menu as such, and all the icons of installed applications are simply placed on the desktops, like the unforgettable MIUI. Naturally, there is a possibility of creating folders, and the developer himself, in principle, has already "combed" the appearance of the workspace as best he could: most programs are carefully arranged according to topics. There is also a whole set of colorful functional widgets - the interface is full of colors, but now it is already becoming fashionable.
A section on gesture control has been added to the settings menu. Using familiar manipulations, you can, for example, turn down the ringtone volume, turn off the alarm, or shuffle tracks in the media player. There are a lot of pre-installed programs, there is a full-fledged office suite, a file manager, an antivirus, and even a few pre-installed games. In general, the interface is nice and flexible enough to customize for yourself.

Performance
The Alcatel One Touch Idol X hardware platform is based on the MediaTek MT6589T SoC. The central processor here has 4 Cortex-A7 cores, operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz. Graphics processing is assisted by the PowerVR SGX 544MP video processor. The device has 2 GB of RAM, which is quite modern. With built-in memory, the smartphone is not a lot - 16 GB of internal memory is nominally and only about 12.7 GB of free flash array in reality. The smartphone does not support expanding memory using microSD cards (the 6040 has this support). The problem is partly solved by the ability to connect external devices to the USB port (USB Host, USB OTG). This, by the way, is the essential difference between Alcatel One Touch Idol X and its main competitor: Fly Luminor IQ453 does not have the ability to connect external devices.

Based on the results of the data obtained during the testing, the Alcatel OT Idol X system demonstrated quite expected average performance indicators, at the level of other devices we have previously tested, which are organized on the same platform. In nature, there is also a regular version of MediaTek MT6589 with an operating frequency of cores not 1.5 but 1.2 GHz (for example, the Oppo Mirror R819 is based on it), and a comparison of the results of these platforms showed the natural advantage of the MT6589T version. Well, comparison with the closest competitor, Fly Luminor IQ453, revealed almost absolute coincidence of the results, which is logical, since both devices are built on the same platform.

As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of a javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them significantly depend on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can be truly correct only on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always.
Video playback
To test the "omnivorous" video playback (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats that make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that it is important for mobile devices to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, do not expect a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it.

We did not find the MHL interface, like Mobility DisplayPort, in this smartphone, so we had to confine ourselves to testing the output of video files on the screen of the device itself. To do this, we used a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see "Testing techniques for video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)"). Screenshots with an exposure of 1 s helped to determine the nature of the frame output of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied (1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels) and the frame rate (24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps). with). In our tests, we used the MX Player video player in the Hardware... The test results are summarized in the table:

The intervals between frames (or groups of frames) alternate slightly unevenly, and in the case of files with 50 and 60 fps, some frames are skipped. When playing video files with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels (1080p), the image of the video file itself is displayed one-to-one, exactly on the edge of the screen. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the extended range (that is, the range 0-255). And since most video files are encoded in 16-235 video luminance range, the white color of such video files on the screen of this smartphone appears as light light gray, and black color as dark dark gray, which clearly does not improve the image quality.
Battery life
The capacity of the lithium-ion battery installed in the Alcatel OT Idol X is 2000 mAh, small by today's standards. However, all the ultra-thin Chinese models we have tested lately are equipped with the same energy reserve - this applies to both the Fly Luminor IQ453 and the Oppo Mirror. The battery here, as already mentioned, is non-removable, so it cannot be removed, replaced, or taken on the road with a spare.
Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (the brightness was set to 100 cd / m2) lasted about 10 hours until the battery was completely discharged, and when continuously watching YouTube videos in high quality (HQ) with the device lasted less than 7 hours with the same brightness level through the home Wi-Fi network - these are average indicators. In 3D games mode, the smartphone lasted a little over 4 hours.
Outcome
At the moment, the official cost of Alcatel OT Idol X is set in our market within 14 thousand rubles. The competitor's price is a little higher: Fly Luminor IQ453 costs 15 thousand rubles now, but at the same time it is difficult to find anything that would make it more preferable in comparison with the hero of today's review. Is that a larger amount of built-in memory. Otherwise, it turns out that Alcatel OT Idol X looks better in all respects, and even costs less. Of course, the list of competitors is not limited to these two models, however, most of them are characterized by either much worse characteristics (most often the screen is not Full HD), or a much higher price - 20 thousand or more.

ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is a compact smartphone from the Idol line. It is not devoid of the corporate identity of the company, which makes it look great. Unfortunately, it was not without simplification, they affected the processor and RAM. Let's see what this smartphone is capable of.
ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is made in a style similar to other ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol models, which is good. The design of the smartphone is recognizable and distinctive. The case is non-separable, perfectly assembled and very thin, by the way, the thickness is only 7.9 mm. The smartphone is 127.1 mm long, 62 mm wide and weighs 97 grams. With such parameters, the smartphone is practically not felt in a pants pocket.
The location of the keys and interfaces is as follows: at the top of the front panel there is a light sensor, a proximity sensor, a voice speaker, a 0.3 MP front camera and an indicator of missed events. At the bottom of the front panel there are three backlit hardware touch keys. At the ends of the smartphone there is a power button and a 3.5 mm jack (top), microUSB and the main microphone (bottom), a slot for micro-SIM and microSD (right) and a volume rocker on the left (left). On the back cover there is a camera lens, it protrudes somewhat above the surface of the body and has a silvery rim, flash, second microphone, manufacturer's logo and a multimedia speaker. The back cover is made of plastic imitating metal. Cover prints are only visible from a certain angle and can be easily erased.
In general, there are no critical remarks about the ergonomics of the smartphone. The connector covers fit securely and tightly. It is convenient to use the smartphone with one hand, even despite the location of the power button on the top end. Mechanical keys have a tight, but well-defined stroke. The slim body, light weight and pleasant materials make the device a pleasure to use.
Operating system and shell
The smartphone runs on Android 4.2.2 operating system using its own interface. The branded shell is pleasant to look at and is to some extent a symbiosis of MIUI and Android Jelly Bean.
The interface is almost completely the same as that of the older models. The lock screen can hold up to nine widgets from which you can switch to full screen mode. In addition to widgets, there are four icons on the lock screen (dialing, messages, camera and unlocking), which are enclosed in a circle. Selecting icons and unlocking the smartphone is carried out using a small circle. It also changes its location relative to the tilt of the body thanks to the built-in accelerometer. This feature looks interesting and funny. By the way, during charging, the charge level is indicated in the middle of the circle. Without unlocking your smartphone, you can go to the notification panel and mode switches. It is not possible to change and move the mode switching icons.
After unlocking, we find ourselves on one of five desktops, where widgets and program icons are located. For older models, this is the main menu, while for Idol MINI it is just a desktop with widgets and program shortcuts. Folders can be created on the desktop by dragging and dropping application shortcuts. When you long press on the widget, sliders appear, with which you can change the size of the widget.
By clicking on the icon located in the lower right corner, we get to the applications menu. The Application Menu has three tabs: General Programs, Downloaded Programs, and Widgets. Despite the refusal of some manufacturers from a larger number of preinstalled programs, ALCATEL ONE TOUCH did not follow this path and installed a large number of programs, fortunately, they can be easily removed. Among the preinstalled programs, you can find antivirus, an office application, a large number of social services and almost all services from Google. There is a possibility to block notifications from selected programs, as well as to select a memory where applications will be installed.
The interface works well, jerking is rare, but in cases of launching a heavy application and then exiting it, the desktop shortcuts are redrawn.
SwiftKey is installed as the default keyboard. The browser loads pages quickly, its work is not satisfactory.
I would like to note that some standard applications have been redrawn according to the general design style. Among them are the compass, calculator, flashlight and radio.
Hardware platform
It should be noted that the smartphone can be presented in two versions 6012X and 6012D. The first version with the 6012X index is distinguished by the presence of one SIM card, a microSD slot, and 4 GB of internal memory. The version with the index 6012D already has two slots for SIM cards, 8 GB of internal memory, but there is no microSD slot.
ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini is based on the budget MT6572 SoC from MediaTek. This processor is built on a 28 nm process technology, has two Cortex A7 cores with a frequency of 1.3 GHz. The well-known Mali 400 MP acts as a video accelerator. Although this SoC is considered budgetary, it demonstrates good results in synthetic tests. The amount of RAM is modest by the standards of the end of 2013 and amounts to 512 MB. During normal use, there was no more than 140 MB of RAM remaining. The built-in storage is 4 GB, of which about 2 GB is available to the user.

This smartphone is not positioned as a gaming one, but, nevertheless, the performance will be sufficient for undemanding games.
The volume and sound quality of the speakers is good. Thanks to the well-thought-out location of the loudspeaker, it will be difficult to miss a call, since even when the phone is on the table, the loudspeaker does not overlap. The microphone transmits speech with high quality. The sound in the headphones is good.
During most tasks, the body of the smartphone did not heat up. Working on a Wi-Fi network did not raise any questions, everything works quickly and without interruptions in the connection. Searching for satellites is slightly faster than other devices with MediaTek chipsets.
Autonomy
ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini shows average autonomy results. A rechargeable battery with a capacity of 1700mAh is hidden inside the thin case. With average loads, such as: about an hour of calls, constantly switched on data transfer - the smartphone is able to hold out for a day. If the device is used more actively, then it is likely that it will not last until the end of the working day. There is a power saving mode. The results of the autonomy tests can be found below.

To listen to music, we used a standard player, volume at 12 out of 15 possible, MP3 files with a bitrate of 320 Kbps. In read mode, all wireless communications are disabled, including data transmission in the mobile network, and the display brightness is set to 50%. Navigation includes getting directions in the Google Navigation app. Brightness is set to 50%, all communication modules are disabled. During video playback, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is at level 12 out of a possible 15. The video file format is MKV, the resolution is 1024x432 pixels, the frame rate is 24. When playing a video from Youtube, the display brightness is set to 50%, the sound volume in the headphones is set to 12 out of 15 possible levels.
Display and cameras
Nowadays, even budget smartphones have begun to equip IPS displays. ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini boasts a 4.3-inch IPS-display with a resolution of 854 × 480 pixels, there is an automatic brightness control sensor. The display accepts up to five simultaneous clicks. The viewing angles of the screen are close to maximum, the colors are juicy, the brightness is high. The display fades in the sun, but the information remains readable. The maximum brightness is 394 cd / m², the average brightness is 199 cd / m², and the minimum is 43 cd / m². An overestimated minimum value negatively affects the use of the device in the dark. The smartphone screen displays shades of gray somewhat darker than they should be. The color gamut is only slightly above the sRGB value. But if you do not find fault, then the smartphone is equipped with an excellent display for its price category.
ALCATEL ONE TOUCH Idol Mini has two cameras of 5 MP and 0.3 MP. As mentioned above, you can call the camera from the lock screen. The camera interface is simple and intuitive. The video is recorded at 720p.
