Keenetic 4g iii firmware. Update instruction. Detailed configuration of equipment

Any device or program is constantly being improved and requires updates, it doesn't matter operating system Windows, Skype program or a network router. Updates are necessary to increase the speed of a device or program, to add new functions or fix existing bugs. Therefore, when buying any device, I recommend that you first update the firmware. In my practice, there have been cases when it was not possible to configure the functionality of the device, only the firmware update helped.

In this article, I will describe step by step the process of updating the firmware of the Zyxel Keenetic Lite router (for Zyxel Keenetic Lite 4G, everything will be the same, so this article will work for this router as well).

The first step is to set up a network on a computer / laptop on automatic acquisition of IP-address and DNS-server .
We connect Zyxel to a 220V network. Network cable connect to any of the 4 ports (except WAN), the other end of the cable to a computer / laptop. Open a browser (you can use any browser, but according to the recommendation of Zyxel, it is better to use IE) and enter the address 192.168.1.1 and press Enter.

A window will appear asking you to enter your username and password, by default, the username is used. admin, password- 1234 ... Click " OK».

The Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G system monitor window will open. In it, you will see the software version.

But this is not enough, now you need to take a look at the sticker on the bottom panel of the case. Internet center Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G. In the lower left corner, you will see the revision of your network device.

At the time of this writing, there were 2 versions of revisions A and B. Revision B (Rev.B) differs from revision A (Rev.A) in the following characteristics:
- Used new processor which is about 10% faster and less power efficient.
- The connector for the detachable external Wi-Fi omnidirectional antenna is now located on the other side of the rear panel.
- Added internal Wi-Fi antenna... The device now uses both an external and an internal antenna (Diversity technology). The internal antenna does not increase the coverage area, but provides additional sensitivity, increases the reliability of communication when working with a wireless access point and is designed to combat reception "dead zones".
- WPS button for quick setup Wi-Fi networks is now located on the rear panel.
- The non-volatile flash memory of the Internet center has been doubled and now it is 8 MB.
After finding out the version of the installed software and revision, download the latest firmware Zyxel Keenetic Lite or Zyxel Keenetic 4G (download the firmware designed specifically for your router model !!!). If you downloaded the archive, you need to unzip it.

We return to the Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G web interface. Click " System - Firmware", The button" Overview"And select the downloaded file with the bin extension. After that, click " Refresh».

A warning window will appear, stating that you do not need to turn off the router during the firmware update, click " OK».

After that, within a few minutes, you will contemplate the process of updating the firmware.

Then you will be prompted to enter your username and password to connect to the Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G router. Let me remind you that the default login is admin, the password is 1234.
As a result, you will be taken to the updated web interface of the Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G router. In the software version line, you will see the new firmware version.
The next thing I recommend to do is change the password for connecting to Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G. To do this, we connect to the web interface of the router, go to “ System - Users».

Firmware update is a very important point for the stable operation of any device. Since everything in our time is being modernized, improved, new technologies are applied, it is necessary to constantly improve the already purchased devices. Plus, the manufacturer himself may make mistakes in writing the software, as a result of which the equipment may not work correctly. Whatever your equipment, no matter what - a router, TV, video card, pleases you with its work, use only latest version software.

Whenever I write a review about networking equipment, in particular Zyxel routers, I recommend updating the firmware. There are two ways to do this:

1) Updating the firmware of the Zyxel router via the Internet (online);

2) Updating the firmware of the Zyxel router offline (without direct access in Internet).

Method 1. Updating the firmware of the Zyxel router via the Internet (online)

The easiest way, its essence is as follows: you configure the Internet on the router, after the Internet is configured in the main window "System" in the "Update" field, click the "Available" button.

The "System" window will open, click the "Install" button.

At the end, the router will reboot and you will see a successfully installed fresh version of the firmware.

In addition to updating the firmware from a computer, all the same can be done from a phone to an Android or iPhone, described in more detail in the article - Configure a Zyxel Keenetic router from a smartphone or tablet + video.

If you get the error " Maximum allowed firmware size exceeded by x KB"

Or " Failed to connect to the component update server. Please check your internet connection."

And in the "System" window you can see in the "Updates" line the inscription - Connection error.

In this case, you need to use the second method of updating the firmware.

Method 2 Updating the firmware of the Zyxel router offline (without direct Internet access)

This method requires a computer with Internet access and a router itself. Go to the Zyxel website, find your router model and download the latest firmware:

Download firmware Zyxel Keenetic Start, 4G, OMNI, VIVA, Lite, Air, Giga, Ulta, Extra

Unzip the downloaded archive with the firmware, as a result you should get a folder with the * .bin extension file.

Now you need to connect to the router using a network cable, go to its web interface, for this enter 192.168.1.1 in the browser, enter your username and password. Then go to "System", select the "Configuration" tab, click on the file name "firmware". In the File Management window that appears, click the "Browse" button, specify the location of the firmware file (extension * .bin), click the "Replace" button.

Any device or program is constantly being improved and requires updates, no matter the operating Windows system, Skype program or network router.

We connect the network cable to any of the 4 ports (except WAN), the other end of the cable to the computer / laptop.

- A new processor is used, which is about 10% faster and has less power consumption.
- The connector for the detachable external Wi-Fi omnidirectional antenna is now located on the other side of the rear panel.
- Added internal Wi-Fi antenna. The device now uses both an external and an internal antenna (Diversity technology). The internal antenna does not increase the coverage area, but provides additional sensitivity, increases the reliability of communication when working with a wireless access point and is designed to combat reception "dead zones".
- The WPS button for quick Wi-Fi network setup is now located on the rear panel.

The next thing I recommend to do is change the password for connecting to Zyxel Keenetic Lite / 4G. To do this, we connect to the web interface of the router, go to “ System - Users».

Zyxel Keenetic Start is a great router for your home. The model is positioned as “ younger brother»More powerful previous brand routers, but contains the maximum of functions for normal use. Unlike other devices, the router has a pleasant low price, which did not in any way affect the excellent quality inherent in all models of this brand.

The router has a low price, but is not inferior in quality to expensive models

Let's take a closer look at the overview of the functions of the Zyxel Keenetic Start router, find out how it is configured and flashed.

Externally, the router differs little from standard routers - an unobtrusive design, a black case and an external antenna. His maximum speed is about 150 Mbps, which is quite enough for one user and group that can be created within the local network. It provides IPTV functions, creating another access point for guest use.

For protection, there are all relevant protocols and a firewall, which will allow you to secure your connection. In addition, the router is as easy to set up as possible, so you can install it yourself to use the Internet.

Equipment setup

To install and configure, connect Zyxel Keenetic Start to your computer, then do the following:

  • Enter the parameters of the router: in address bar browser, enter the value 192.168.1.1, after which you will immediately see a configuration guide.
  • Choose quick setup.

  • You will see a window for selecting a MAC address. If the provider does not register it, then indicate this option. If your service provider registers addresses and the Internet was previously used on this PC, then select the next appropriate option. In the event that both options are not suitable, you need to call the support service and tell the provider to register the address of the kinetic start equipment with the provider - you will see it on the bottom of the case.
  • Next, specify the type of connection by IP - mainly the Internet comes with automatic detection addresses.

  • In the next menu, you specify the login and password for connecting to the Zyxel Keenetic Start network. There are several options for action - if the provider uses Dynamic IP technology, then you check the line "I do not have a password to access the Internet." If access is carried out through the use of PPPoE protocols or L2TP, PPTP, then you should specify the data from the service provider contract.
  • After all the actions, an Internet connection should occur - basic setup completed.

When you have finished performing the quick setup, use the "Web configurator" button to go to the menu of the other parameters of the router.

If, after a quick setup, the Internet does not work, then enter the connection data again, to do this, follow these recommendations:

  • Go to the PPPoE / VPN section.
  • Enter the data for the connection - turn on the network and activate the line "Use to access the Internet", enter your username and password, select the type of connection and other parameters.

When you first enter the advanced settings, a window appears to change the login and key to enter the configuration interface - this is done for security purposes so that no one can hack the network, so come up with your username and password.

Wi-Fi connection

When a connection is established on the Zyxel Keenetic Start router, it is immediately activated Wi-Fi distribution, but many ask the question: "If we did not enter the network name or password, how to establish a connection from the rest of the equipment to the Internet via Wi-Fi?"

The answer is that the network receives a name and password automatically when the equipment is installed, and to find out this data, look at the back of the router.

It is noteworthy that each router of this brand is assigned its own combination, which is more secure than in the case when at first there is no password and login for Wi-Fi, and the network is open to all users.

If you want to change the default network name and password, then follow these instructions:

  • Go to the router settings and select the Wi-Fi network section.
  • Open the Access Points tab and set a new network name, key combination, select the WPA2-PSK encryption type (it is the most reliable to protect against hacking).

Note. When you change the SSID in Zyxel Keenetic Start, there is a "Hide network" function at the bottom, with which you can make the access point invisible. In this case, other users will need to manually add a network, enter its name and password in order to get an Internet connection, which will additionally protect you from interference from outside equipment.

Installing the firmware

From time to time, errors and malfunctions appear in the operation of the Wi-Fi router, because of which you need to reinstall software... But even if the router works smoothly, it is worth updating the firmware from time to time, because the manufacturer is constantly improving the firmware for its correct operation.

You can update the firmware through the options menu, but if you want to manually install new software, then follow these steps:

  • Download setup file from the Internet (make sure that it was developed specifically for the Zyxel Keenetic Start model). After downloading, unpack the archive.
  • Go to the options menu, System section, open Files.
  • Find the Firmware file in the list, click on this line - a window will appear in front of you to select a new firmware.
  • Specify the path to the file, click on "Replace", after which the firmware for the router will be updated.
  • After completion, within a few seconds, the equipment will restart, due to which the menu will be unavailable for about a minute.

Installation data new version You will see the firmware by looking at the first window of the configuration menu, which indicates the current state of the router.

By following the instructions above, you can connect Zyxel Keenetic Start to the Internet, set up a Wi-Fi connection and flash the router. This equipment will allow you to enjoy a high-speed connection with a high-quality and powerful signal.
