Modem megaphone 4 g m100. Building a house from Porotherm ceramic blocks

Friends, I am glad to welcome you again! The other day I ran into such a question as how to unlock a megaphone 4g modem in order to receive the Internet through any SIM cards. I had to sit for half a day, but still managed to unlock the modem. Now I will tell you how I did it.

In general, the megaphone operator distributes good Internet, but now the Tele2 operator has made convenient tariffs and I use their Internet. What to do now, buy a Tele2 device or find a way to unlock a megaphone 4g modem? Of course, the second option.

If you insert a SIM card of another operator into a megaphone USB device, then you will be given the opportunity to enter an unlock code and unlock this modem to work with any SIM cards. You have ten attempts to enter the code. But where can I get this code?

Do not try to guess it, because after the tenth attempt the modem will be blocked. I found several options on the Internet to get an unlock code, they are all too complicated, using some programs, both paid and free.

It turns out that all the USB devices that we have are made in China by Huawei, so to unlock them, you need to use utilities for gadgets from this particular company.

And so, let's get down to unlocking the megaphone 4G modem. First you need to download this program to your computer Huawei Unlock Code Calculator.

Now run it and here you need to enter the IMEI of your modem. You will find it on the inside of the lid. Remove the cover from the USB device and you will immediately see the IMEI.

Write this number and click on the "Calk" button. The program will give the code numbers V1, V2 and V201. Now insert the SIM card into the USB modem and connect to the computer. If you have not yet installed the Internet control program from the megaphone, then it will be installed automatically.

In the upper right corner, I have a field for entering the unlock code. First I entered code V1, but it turned out to be wrong. Then I entered code V2 and it turned out to be wrong too. But when I entered the code V201, the Internet Tele2 appeared through the USB device of the Megafon operator.

That's all, I told how to unlock the megaphone 4g modem and there was nothing complicated in my method. The program that you need to download is light and easy to download and run, when you enter the IMEI, it instantly issues unlock codes.

And the USB modem itself is instantly flashed for all operators when the code is entered correctly. Therefore, I recommend using this simple and free method.

Guys, follow my blog, there is only the most useful information and who liked this article, go over the icons of social networks that are now in front of you.

New multi-mode USB modem for working in MegaFon and Yota networks. The device supports LTE (FDD / TDD) / UMTS / GSM standards with automatic switching, the declared maximum data reception rate in the 4G network is up to 100 Mbps. The modem is locked to work in MegaFon networks and will not work with a USIM card from another operator.

You can't call this device small, although the modem looks much more compact than the Huawei E392. And it does not heat up so much, which indicates less power consumption. But we are still far from the comfortable size of 3G modems, universal devices with 4G support are noticeably larger. The new modem does not look too bulky due to its good proportions.

The striking resemblance to Yota's "proprietary" LTE modem immediately catches the eye, the design and proportions are almost identical. And this is not surprising, the developer of both devices is Yota Devices LLC, the importer is the same Distribution Center. True, the manufacturer of the Yota LTE modem is Quanta Computer Inc, and the universal MegaFon M100-1 modem was manufactured by Tech-Giant Computer Co. But both companies (Quanta and Tech-Giant) are registered at the same legal address in Shanghai, so it is possible that the structural unit was spun off into a separate company or some other administrative event happened.

Just a few days ago, Scartel (Yota) received 1.6 million telephone numbers in the code (DEF) 999 with the distribution of blocks throughout Russia, so it is quite possible that Yota subscribers will be able to buy such modems with Yota SIM cards and use data transmission 3G/2G in the MegaFon network. And there, it’s not far to voice transmission within the framework of MVNO. However, we will not guess and this is a topic for a separate discussion.

Equipment and price

A modest box, the modem itself, a warranty card and a quick start guide, that's all. In the commercial delivery, there will most likely be a microUSIM card. No adapter cords, green ribbons and other decor. The color is black, but there is talk of a white version.

The estimated price is 1,990 rubles, this figure was obtained from a search engine. Although the price could not be found on the regional MegaFon website itself. Huawei E392 costs exactly the same, so it looks like the truth.

Main characteristics

  • GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz UMTS/DC HSPA+ 900/2100 MHz LTE 800/2600 MHz
  • The speed of data reception by the modem is up to 100 Mbps, transmission - up to 50 Mbps. The actual reception / transmission speed depends on the technological capabilities and network congestion, and the natural conditions for the propagation of radio waves.
  • USB and microUSB connectors
  • Plug'n'Play device, SMS support

PC Requirements:

  • USB interface
  • OS Microsoft Windows® XP SP3, Windows® Vista
  • SP1/SP2, Windows® 7, 8; Mac OS X 10.5 - 10.8
  • Free hard disk space of at least 15 MB
  • RAM at least 1 GB
  • Screen resolution of at least 800 x 600 pixels

Design

The modem does not provide a memory card, and there are no additional slots for an external antenna either. In this sense, Huawei E392 looks more interesting. Rotator with open type USB plug and additional microUSB socket. The SIM-card is inserted into a narrow slot under the rotator, "hides" into the slot completely, is pushed out by pressing.

It should be noted that some minor design flaws have been corrected. For example, the rotator now has five fixed positions (it used to be three).

An inconspicuous but useful ledge appeared on the edge of the rotator. It seems to be a trifle, but opening the modem has become much more convenient, and this micro-improvement will save a lot of nails.

The microUSB socket has acquired a normal trapezoid shape. In the previous version, there was a rectangle, just mark the “correct” side with paint, so that you don’t guess using the “scientific poke” method every time.

Apparently, in order to save space, they abandoned the usual SIM card in favor of microSIM. We gained some millimeters, but added a headache to subscribers. It is possible that the problem of a shortage of microSIMs with LTE support will be resolved by the start of sales of the modem, but now there are very few such MegaFon SIM cards in Moscow, many people complain about this. I ran through the surrounding salons, I did not find it anywhere. And in one salon they honestly said that they had never received them at all. But nanoSIM LTE - for God's sake, they are everywhere. Enchanting absurdity: iPhone 5 does not work in the Russian LTE network, but there are SIM cards. The same Lumia 920 works in the LTE network, but you can’t find a SIM card for it during the day with fire. Maybe these microSIMs with LTE support for the MegaFon network still do not exist in principle?

I would advise not to suffer with the search for elusive microSIM LTE, but to take a regular USIM LTE and cut it off in one of the communication shops. Many dealers have already acquired these simple machines, and MegaFon's USIMs cut well without damaging the contact plates. As an additional bonus - a ready-made adapter and the preservation of the universality of the card, there is always a piece of adhesive tape in the house. Greedy sellers, by the way, ask for 100-150 rubles. for such adapters complete with an analogue of a paper clip.

Work

For experiments, a regular SIM-card with a voice tariff was purchased and "on the spot" was replaced with USIM. Next, we connect the option "Unlimited Internet for a 4G Pro smartphone" and for 30 rubles. per day we enjoy full-fledged LTE. According to the description, the maximum speed on this option is limited to 20 Mbps, but for some reason this restriction does not work in the LTE network. It probably works in 3G and EDGE, but, as you understand, it was not possible to check.

The feeling of the modem in the LTE network is ambiguous. With a good signal, this M100-1 works perfectly and, in my opinion, is not inferior to the Huawei E392 modem. It even seemed a little faster, but I won’t dare to say. But in conditions of poor reception, the M100-1 is no longer so good and begins to lose. Apparently, the large size of the antenna in the E392 affects. For such conditions, we can safely recommend a passive antenna, it works surprisingly well with this modem.

The modem did not always demonstrate 30 Mbps or more, but it gave stable 25+ Mbps smoothly and without interruptions. In conditions of a good signal, but, on the other hand, in the house through a triple-glazed window.

There are no complaints about working in 3G, everything works smoothly and stably. I could have worked faster, but there's nothing to be done, in my area MegaFon's 3G network has become much slower over the past year and a half. Either they adjusted something unsuccessfully, or the load on the network has greatly increased and LTE will really come in handy.

In 2G it is similar. Without special claims, but also without high-speed "miracles". In general, we can say that Huawei E392 works better in 2G and 3G networks, but the new M100-1 is not inferior to popular models like E352 and E367. Again, subjective.

At the same time, I compared the M100-1 with the Yota LTE modem. A direct comparison is incorrect, since the Yota modem has a hardware limitation, and the Yota-segment of the LTE network, most likely, is still more loaded. Plus the famous system of adaptive speed limiting depending on the load and, according to some statements, on the type of traffic. Yota has rich experience in this matter, at one time torrent lovers almost "stacked" fragments of the WiMax network. In any case, I did not see any hardware limitations in the M100-1.

It was not possible to make friends with the M100-1 modem with the Keenetic 4G router, despite the recently installed latest firmware version 2, with which the Huawei E392 MTS successfully worked in this router. Maybe it's in my not enough "straight hands", but just in case, keep in mind.

Software

The "proprietary" Connect Manager unexpectedly liked its functionality. The design does not shine with beauty, but it is made sensibly. For example, the ability to hard-select any of the three standards (LTE-3G-2G) can be useful. They also allowed me to change the standard on the fly with a live connection, which is great. And then many beginners suffer, not realizing that in order to change the standard or range, you must first break the current connection. The M100-1 manager has learned to disconnect the connection itself when setting other settings.

Wi-Fi connection management has been added to the Manager's interface, the "one window" principle in action. You can set the modem to automatically turn off when connected via Wi-Fi in the settings, you can view statistics on Wi-Fi traffic, etc. Other “useful things” include showing the amount on the personal account balance in the connection indicator window.

The Manager interface provides for sending SMS messages and USSD commands. The "My account" section is still "under development", inside there is only a link to the Service Guide. Probably, over time, they will add information about the tariff and connected services / packages.

All sorts of graphs and statistical reports on traffic are also present, where without them. In general, a good Manager turned out. A noted drawback is the lack of information about which network the SIM card was registered in. In the "Auto" mode, you will not know this until you establish a connection, the corresponding icon appears only when connected. Unfortunately, this Manager does not work with other modems, it simply does not see them.

Summary

The modem gives the impression of a good "workhorse" and does not look like such a "monster" as Huawei E392. There were no glitches and freezes for several days. About the pros and cons, see above, of the significant shortcomings, I would call the inoperability of the modem in the router. I hope this is a temporary issue. I also don't like the open type USB plug, not the best option for a laptop on the road. The rest of the device is quite suitable.

The Megaphone M100-1 modem on Ubuntu "rises" without problems, starting at least with Ubuntu 12.04. Just plug it into USB and after 10-20 seconds you can create a connection through Network Manager. However, there may be a problem with low Internet speed. This can happen because the modem was configured to connect only in 2G (GSM) or 3G (HSDPA). Or in auto mode, it selects the type of connection with a stronger signal (and lower speed).

Under Windows, this problem can be solved by changing the settings in the Megafon Internet program. But in Ubuntu this program cannot be installed.

There is a way out, you just need to send the necessary AT command to the modem. And you can do this through the minicom program, which is in the Ubuntu universe repository.

Step one

You need to make sure that the Megafon M100-1 is correctly recognized and connected to the system. In the terminal you need to run the command

ls /dev/ttyU*

The output of the command should give three devices: /dev/ttyUSB0, /dev/ttyUSB1 and /dev/ttyUSB2. To work with the modem, you will need the /dev/ttyUSB2 device - this is the modem's control port.

step two

You need to install minicom (it's not out of the box). Then run it with the command:

minicom -s

It's running in setup mode. In this mode, you need to specify the /dev/ttyUSB2 device in the serial port settings. Then save the settings as dfl and exit the settings mode.

Then, already in terminal mode, you can work with the modem. First of all, check the connection to the modem with the command

It should output something like this:

Manufacturer: LLC Yota Devices Model: MegaFon M100-1 Revision: MF1.07_1KY_01

AT^QCNCFG?

The answer will be: "00" or another number - 01, 02, 03.

If the output contains the number 03, then the connection mode is already set to 4G (LTE) and the reason for the low speed is different. But in the case of numbers 00 or 01, it will be possible to switch the modem to 4G (LTE) mode.

This is done with the command:

AT^QCNCFG=03
