Studio Vertex offers training in the KOMPAS-3D program using both free and paid teaching materials. If you are intermediate in this design program, it may be useful to you. For budding mechanical engineers, we recommend starting with.

In this lesson, we'll take a step-by-step compass tutorial and how you can quickly learn drawing and modeling from scratch.

Note: if you have versions of KOMPAS 3D v17-v18, the interface will differ from versions starting from v16 and below, since ASCON has made quite drastic changes to user interface programs.

Teaching 3D modeling in Compass-3D

Let's open Compass-3D and take the first steps towards designing in solid construction. Click create Detail.

Push right key mice on one of the planes (in this example plane ZX) and choose Create sketch.

So, we went into creation mode Sketch.

Let's start sketching. Go to the geometry tab, hold down the left mouse button on Rectangle and choose Center and Vertex Rectangle, in order to make it convenient to start building a figure from the center of coordinates.

We build a rectangle, starting from the center and bringing to the top (arbitrary sizes).

In the tab Dimensions (edit) choose a tool Linear dimension.

By specifying the start and end point of the line that will be the dimension, enter the value of the width and height of the rectangle ( 30x50 mm).

Draw a circle in the same way (tab Geometry) from the center of the rectangle with diameter 16 mm.

We draw a rectangle in the center of the main rectangle and immediately size it ( 40x20). This rectangle will serve for the convenience of constructing holes located in the corners of the future part.

Now, snapping to the points of the vertices of the inner rectangle, draw 4 circles.

With a tool Diametral dimension in the tab Dimensions (edit), set the diameter for one of the circles.

Hold down the key Ctrl, select all 4 circles and in the tab Restrictions push Equality... This will make all hole sizes equal, deviating from the specified size on one of the circles.

Exit the sketch using the button on the right in the upper corner of the screen.

Keeping the sketch selected, click Element extrusion in the tab Body elements and set the distance 5 mm... Push OK.

Ultimately, we get a solid part with a thickness 5 mm.

A quick tutorial on how to create drawings in Compass 3D

Without closing the model from the previous stage, go to the tab Control> Create drawing from model.

After that, a sheet of the GOST format is automatically created. On the left side, on the parameters panel, indicate Model orientation and her Scale... Without closing the parameters window, indicate the location of the view on the sheet.

Let's create a projection view from the main view. In the tab Views, press Projection view, then we indicate the main view and, deviating from the main view, indicate the position for the view to the right.

If a view is highlighted in black, it means that this view is inactive. To switch between them, just click double click mice to the desired view.

In order for all circles to be set with axes, click on each of them and put a tick With axles.

Using the tools in the tab Dimensions (edit), indicate the dimensions in the drawing.

We receive a drawing with dimensions.

As with the model, in order to save the drawing, just press File> Save as… Select the desired folder to save and click Save.

When saving, you can also specify the type of format pdf.

This is how the program allows you to quick creation drawings and 3D models in one of the most popular CAD systems - KOMPAS 3D.

The program is a professional 3D editor. It is useful for industrial purposes - for example, to create parts and equipment. You can also model children's toys, tools, household items, furniture, and more. The program has all the necessary tools for 3D design, and it was created by domestic developers. Lessons recorded on video using real examples will show how to work in KOMPAS-3D, manage the built-in functionality and achieve a specific result.

Video tutorials on KOMPAS-3D

A step-by-step course with a sequential presentation of information. From the point of view of presenting the material, it is no worse than the lessons of Roman Salyakhutdinov on KOMPAS-3D. The full video course contains 49 lessons with a total complexity of 1 hour and 36 minutes: the lessons are short, but capacious, which will allow you to repeat and consolidate the desired topic if necessary.
