At the moment, laptops have become so popular that many users buy them either as an add-on for their computer, or instead of a stationary device. And, of course, every laptop has a touchpad or touchpad - an input device designed to control the cursor and issue commands to an electronic device. In simple words, touching the touchpad simulates pressing a mouse button or keyboard key.

Let's look at the simplest way first.

On some laptop models, near the touchpad, there is a button that will help turn it off and, if necessary, turn it on again. On HP laptops, you can try double-tapping the upper left corner of the touchpad, or hold the upper left corner of the touchpad for 5 seconds.

If there is no such shutdown button in your laptop, then you can use function key Fn in combination with the top row keys: F1, F2, ..., F12. For different models laptop keyboard shortcuts will be different. I have ASUS, so I press Fn + F9 to disable the touchpad. In general, at the top we are looking for a key on which a crossed out touchpad is depicted, and click on it.

The following are different key combinations that will help you disable the touchpad, depending on your laptop model:

  • Lenovo - Fn + F5 or Fn + F8;
  • ASUS - Fn + F9;
  • ASER - Fn + F7;
  • Toshiba - Fn + F5;
  • Samsung - Fn + F5;
  • Sony Vaio - Fn + F1.

Second way

If the keyboard shortcuts did not work, it means that you have not installed required drivers... In this case, disable the touchpad through the Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:

"Start" - "Control Panel" - "Mouse" - "ELAN" tab- put a tick "Disable when connecting an external USB mouse"- click "OK".

Now we can work with the touchpad until a mouse is connected to the USB port. That is, when connected, the touch panel is automatically disabled. Using this method, you yourself can choose what you want to work: with a touchpad or with a mouse.

Another way is to disable the touchpad via BIOS

To do this, you need to restart the laptop and enter the BIOS. In order to get into it, we restart the computer and start pressing the F2 or Del button hard immediately after the laptop screen lights up. We move to the BIOS using the arrows. Go to the "Advanced" tab, select "Internal Pointing Device", press "Enter" and select "Disabled". Now you need to save - press F10. Press ESC to exit BIOS.

I hope you have approached one of the methods described in this article, and now you will never have a question - .

Problems with the touchpad?

The touchpad is the main control for any mobile computer. The touchpad is intended to replace the usual mouse when there is not enough space on the table for normal operation. Today, this module is endowed with laptops, ultrabooks and more recently decommissioned netbooks. Surely, many users have no idea how to properly configure the touchpad or just enable / disable it.

Bug fixes.

Synaptic touchpads are quite common. Laptop owners with HP, ASUS, Acer, Dell, MSI, Toshiba, Compag and Apple logos use these touchpads every day. Touch panels of this class are practically "immortal", but no one is immune from unpleasant situations. Oddly enough, but most of the problems are related to the fact that users simply cannot enable / disable it.

Enable / disable touchpad.

The Touchpad is not as formidable as it might seem at first glance. The easiest way to enable / disable the touchpad is to use the multifunction or hot keys. In some cases, the developers suggest using a single key instead of whole combinations. Usually, the on / off function is hidden among the keys F1 to F12. If the keyboard has a "FN" key, then the touch panel is activated / deactivated by pressing a couple of buttons together. Here are some simple combinations that you might find useful:

  • Asus - Fn + F9.
  • Dell - Fn + F5.
  • Acer - Fn + F7.
  • Lenovo - Fn + F8.

In the most severe cases, the touchpad is enabled / disabled in the BIOS soft menu. This function is fueled by the Integral Pointing Device subsection.

To enter the BIOS, you need to press the F2 or DELETE key when turning on the computer, and then go to the Advanced tab and put the Enabled value opposite the Internal Pointing Device item - enable the touchpad, and to disable it, you need to set the Disabled value. then press F10 and Enter. Chances are, after a reboot, your touchpad will turn on / off.

There is also one great video that details another way to enable / disable the touchpad. Good luck!

The touchpad is an age old feature that has long since replaced alternative mouse controls. With it, we can fully control our device, be it a laptop or a hybrid tablet. Many laptops (Acer, Asus, HP, lenovo, Dell) have problems with the touchpad. What to do if the touchpad does not work on a laptop in Windows 10? Let's take a look at 5 ways to fix this problem.

1. Re-enable the touchpad using the Fn key

One story happened to me when I turned on WiFi on my laptop and inadvertently turned off the touchpad touchpad. For a long time I was looking for the reason, without immediately realizing what had happened. Everything turned out to be simple, in laptops there is a button for additional functions called Fn at the bottom left of the keyboard. To enable any function on a laptop, the combination of the Fn and F1 ... F12 buttons is clamped. On these same F1-F12 buttons, pictures or symbols are drawn to apply the parameter. For example, to turn on the touchpad, you need to press Fn + F7, on the F7 button itself there will be an image like a touchpad. You can press all the buttons in order Fn + F1… F12, but remember that there is a function to turn off the display, press again on those buttons on which the screen has gone out.

On some HP notebooks, the touchpad can be turned on and off by double tapping on the edge of the touchpad itself. The asus and acer brands may have a separate button next to the touchpad. If the Touchpad still doesn't work, then move on.

2. Removing Other Mouse Drivers

There are times when you have connected a whole bunch of drivers from different devices mice and you've never deleted them. Some drivers from mouse manufacturers will automatically disable the Touchpad themselves. Go to device Manager, pressing the combination of buttons Win + R and enter in the line devmgmt.msc.

Find the line pointing to mice and other pointing devices, click on the shortcut to expand the category and delete all the mouse drivers in order until the touchpad starts working on your laptop. If it does not work, try restarting the system after removing all drivers. Touchpad not working? Moving on to the next item.

3. Updating or downgrading the touchpad driver

Try updating or rolling back your touchpad driver. Go to the same device manager as described above. Find your Touchpad device, usually named after your laptop brand (Dell TouchPad, Lenovo TouchPad, Synaptics, HP TouchPad, Acer TouchPad, Asus TouchPad.) Click right click mouse on your driver and select properties. Next, click Update to see if there are any useful updates for your touchpad.

Many people have reported on Microsoft forums that the Touchpad stopped working after windows updates 10, for this you need to choose roll back driver. If you do not have the Rollback button highlighted, then you do not have previous version driver.

In many cases, the device manager does not fire in order to enable Touchpat on a laptop. If your Touchpat still does not work on a laptop in windows 10, then go to the properties of the mouse.

  • Dial mouse in line search windows and go to Mouse Settings.
  • Click on Additional mouse options, in the window that opens, go to Device settings, tab Touchpad or like the picture.
  • Find your Touchpad and click enable.

5. Disable touchscreen input service for hybrid notebooks

If your laptop is a hybrid (laptop and tablet in one with a touchscreen display.) There is a chance that the touchscreen input service that controls stylus functionality is interfering with your touchpad.

To disable the service press win + R then type services.msc and in the list of services find TabletInputService or Tablet PC Input Service. Right click on it, then disable it. A very inconvenient solution for who uses touch screen and touchpads, but you can continue to be smart and try to remove the drivers, roll back, update and then restart the service.
