Drivers for increasing fps in games. A driver for a discrete video card. Settings in the game - what is responsible for what

Good afternoon. This article will be of interest, first of all, to owners of NVIDIA video cards (owners of ATI or AMD) ...

Probably, almost all computer users faced brakes in various games (at least those who have ever launched games at all). The reasons for the brakes can be very different: insufficient RAM, heavy loading of the PC with other applications, low performance of the video card, etc.

Here's how to increase this performance in games on NVIDIA video cards and I would like to talk in this article. Let's start to deal with everything in order ...

Performance and fps

In general, how to measure the performance of a video card? If now you do not go into technical details and other points, then for most users, performance is expressed in the number fps - i.e. number of frames per second.

Of course, the higher this indicator, the better and smoother your picture on the screen. To measure fps, you can use many utilities, the most convenient (in my opinion) is the program for recording video from the screen - FRAPS (even if nothing is recorded, the program by default shows fps in the corner of the screen in any game).

Driver software for the video card

Before you start adjusting the parameters of the NVIDIA video card, you need to install and update the drivers. In general, drivers can have a serious impact on the performance of a video card. Due to the drivers, the picture on the screen may change beyond recognition ...

To update and search for a driver for a video card - I recommend using one of the programs from this one.

For example, I really like the Slim Drivers utility - it will quickly find and update all the drivers on the PC.

Updating drivers in Slim Drivers.

Boost performance (FPS) through NVIDIA tweaks

If you have NVIDIA drivers installed, then in order to start configuring them, you can simply click anywhere on the desktop right click mice and context menu explorer select " NVIDIA Control Panel«.

Further in the control panel we will be interested in the tab “ 3D parameter control"(This tab is usually on the left in the settings column, see the screenshot below). In this window, we will set the settings.

By the way, the order of these or those options (which are discussed below) may be different (it is unrealistic to guess how you will have it)! Therefore, I will give only the key options that are in all versions of drivers for NVIDIA.

  1. Anisotropic filtering... Directly affects the quality of textures in games. Therefore it is recommended switch off.
  2. V-Sync (vertical sync)... A parameter that greatly affects the performance of a video card. This parameter is recommended to increase fps. switch off.
  3. Include scalable textures... We put the point No.
  4. Extension limitation... Necessary switch off.
  5. Anti-aliasing. Switch off.
  6. Triple buffering... Necessary switch off.
  7. Filtering textures (anisotropic optimization)... This option allows you to increase performance using bilinear filtering. Necessary turn on.
  8. Filtering textures (quality)... Here put the parameter “ highest performance«.
  9. Filtering textures (negative UD deviation). Turn on.
  10. Filtering textures (tri-linear optimization). We include.

After setting all the settings, save them and exit. If you restart the game now, the number of fps in it should increase, sometimes the increase is more than 20% (which is significant, and allows you to play games that you would not have risked before)!

By the way, the quality of the picture, after the settings made, may deteriorate somewhat, but the picture will move much faster and more evenly than before.

Some more tips for increasing fps

1) If a network game slows down (WOW, Tanks, etc.), I recommend measuring not only the fps in the game, but also comparing it with the requirements of the game.

3) It will not be superfluous to optimize Windows system for high performance:

4) Check your computer for viruses, if the previous recommendations do not help:

5) There is also special utilities which can speed up your PC in games:

That's all, good games to everyone!

Sincerely…

Each user has played various games at least once in his life. Sooner or later, favorite novelties start to slow down terribly, and the picture spoils all the fun. The system is very slow, a lot unnecessary files and programs that interfere with normal operation. I really want to play, but system requirements just keep growing. Let's consider how to cope with this in order to slightly improve the performance of your computer, what methods exist to speed up and optimize Windows work 10.

Optimizing Windows 10 for Games: Ways to Speed Up the Operating System

No matter how new operating system nor was Windows, it still needs some work. The OS brings convenience for users, constant updates, but in some cases you want to improve the performance of your computer. There are a lot of owners of old PCs, or not the newest components, and playing games while enjoying the fast picture is always a joy. And I don't want to wait until the games are installed.

It is quite difficult to optimize for Windows 10, because there are many ways to clean it up, many files and programs that only fill up disk space, slow down the system and, of course, games. Before removing any programs, files or services, be sure to check on the Internet what exactly can be cleaned.

Increase computer performance in games

Requirements for games are growing over the years, and sometimes there is no opportunity to purchase expensive components, or even change them constantly. It becomes very sad when your favorite game starts to slow down. Let's take a look at exactly how you can improve the performance of your system and computer.

Video: How to Achieve Higher FPS in Games on Windows 10

There are many ways to improve performance. It is worth taking advantage of each to keep the OS in top condition. It must be remembered that for users there are always good programs helpers that clean your computer of unnecessary junk and improve system speed, as well as your mood.

Good day.

The image quality of the game, its smoothness, dynamism, etc., directly depends on the FPS indicator. The higher it is, the better ...

But as a rule, most users are faced with the fact that their FPS is low and it is very uncomfortable to spend time in the game. Actually, in this article I will try to help with solving this popular problem. (Is it a joke to say how 15 years ago he himself fought for every "drop" of FPS 3 ÷ 4, using drivers from "local" craftsmen, an old OS, and other tricks. Gamer) .

By the way, I note right away that the problem applies not only to weak old PCs, it is not uncommon for FPS to drop on fairly new and productive computers.

And so, more to the point ...

Determine the bottleneck, upgrade

Undoubtedly, one of the best and most "powerful" ways to increase FPS in games is by upgrading. buying new hardware (for example, replacing a video card with a newer productive model). But, as I think, this is a fairly obvious way and I will not consider it in detail in the article.

Although, I cannot fail to note one detail: before buying a new video card, of course, you should evaluate the cause of the brakes - perhaps it is not the video card that is to blame, but, for example, the presence of problems with the hard drive. For this, it is convenient to use the utility FPS monitor, which is able to show the load on the video card, processor, RAM, disk in real time, so that you can see the "bottleneck" of your PC. Those. correctly determine the reason why the game slows down in order to correctly draw a conclusion.

Optimizing video card drivers

Immediately, I want to say the following here: the FPS indicator can be strongly influenced not only by the settings of the video drivers, but even by their version. The fact is that it is not so rare that new driver versions (for a new Windows versions) come out unfinished. Therefore, in many cases, before drawing final conclusions, I recommend trying several different versions drivers (both old and new) !

And one more tip: do not try to immediately switch to new version Windows OS, at least as soon as it came out.

In general, I have already written several articles on my blog devoted to configuring and updating drivers. Therefore, in order not to repeat myself, I will give here a link to one of them (see below).

Utilities that will find and update drivers automatically -

Configuring video drivers to improve performance:

I would like to note that in the above articles, an increase in the performance of video cards is achieved due to their "point" setting: disabling some of the effects, filters, a slight decrease in image quality (which is often invisible to the "eye" at all!) etc.

For Intel processors: checking if Turbo Boost is enabled

If you have modern processor Intel Core i5, i7 (8th generation i3) - check if you have Turbo Boost * enabled.

What is Turbo Boost:

this is special. Intel technology, which automatically increases the processor clock speed under high load. In fact, this is a real "smart self-overclocking" of the processor.

Setting up the graphics in the game

A very strong value on the number of issued FPS is influenced by the graphics settings of the game itself. The higher the user's requirements for graphics quality, the less FPS you will see ...

Almost every game has video settings. Particular attention should be paid in them to such moments as resolution, screen and effects (perhaps this is the main thing that most loads your system).

Effects

Effects such as shaking and splashing water, dust on the road, wind, shadow effect, etc. have a very big impact on the picture and its realism. All these effects create heavy load on the video card, and if it is not particularly productive, then they process them longer, which means that the number of FPS will be less. By disabling these effects (or reducing the requirements for them), you can significantly increase the FPS (although the picture in the game will become worse).

Setting effects in game WOW(Low - effects set to minimum)

Resolution and vertical sync

It can have a strong impact on performance. It can be changed in almost all games: with brakes, I recommend trying a lower resolution, it is quite possible that the picture quality will remain acceptable, and the smoothness and dynamics of the game (FPS) will increase significantly.

ADDITION!

If you have an IntelHD graphics card, then the Intel website has a special section dedicated to optimal settings games. Those. the developers themselves show how best to customize this or that game (very useful).

Reducing the number of running applications. Checking disk load

When the brakes appear in games, including when the FPS decreases, it will not be superfluous to see what is "going on" in task manager : is there a process that significantly loads the system (in addition to the game itself). For example, there is often a load on the CPU, RAM, HDD (which sometimes starts to crackle at 100% load) .

For example, very often many users have a dozen tabs open in their browsers (which can significantly load the CPU and RAM), Skype is on (during conversations, the program loads the PC, sometimes quite significantly), pay attention also to torrents (they can load the CPU and hard disk), etc.

Note!

To enter the task manager, press - Ctrl + Shift + Esc simultaneously.

In the task manager, sort the programs by CPU load (then by memory load, disk load), and see if there is anything superfluous there. For example, I have CPU-intensive torrents running - it is recommended to close them before starting the game.

In general, the topic of loading is quite extensive, I recommend that you read the article, the link to which is presented below.

Why does the processor slow down, although it seems to be not loaded with anything? -

We clean Windows from junk files, optimize the system

As you work in Windows, whether you like it or not, it accumulates a large number of "junk" files and records: temporary files, old files from remote programs, erroneous entries in the registry, a bunch of programs at startup (i.e. they start when the computer is turned on), browser cache, etc.

Over time, all this begins to affect the performance of the computer (including the FPS). For example, on a clean optimized OS, the FPS rate can be 10-15% higher than on a "packed" to the eyeballs with all sorts of "decorations": gadgets, add-ons, side menus, etc.

Delete everything first unnecessary programs, clear startup. This utility will help all this (the article describes how to work with it) -

By the way, I can't help but note that a special appeared in Windows 10. Game Mode (Windows developers are trying to make the system as convenient as possible for game lovers). I recommend to go to Windows options and check (configure) this mode.

We reduce the temperature: we clean the dust, we use "tricky" methods to prevent overheating

One of the main enemies computer hardware- this is dust (besides the user himself). In just a few months, it can completely clog the radiator, as a result of which it will stop dissipating heat and the temperature in the device will begin to rise (and as a result, you will begin to notice slowdowns).

How to find out the specifications of your computer (including the temperature of the main components: video cards, hard disk, processor, etc.) -

How to clean your computer from dust:

  • first turn it off, disconnect it from the network, disconnect all wires and plugs going to the system unit;
  • then open the case;
  • then you can use a conventional reverse vacuum cleaner (many home vacuum cleaners have such a mode) and blow out the dust;
  • if there is no vacuum cleaner (or there is no such mode in it) - you can buy cans of compressed air and blow out the dust with them (you can find it in computer stores);
  • radiators can be cleaned with ordinary brushes, gently brushing off the remaining dust between the grilles.

Advice. In hot summer weather, when the temperature outside the window rises significantly, I can advise the following: open the side cover system unit, and put the most ordinary fan in front of it. Thus, the temperature will drop significantly.

About laptops

Laptops are a little more complicated. It is also possible to blow out dust, but it is quite difficult to disassemble them (especially for a novice user). I recommend giving them for cleaning 1-2 times a year. It is not very expensive in services.

Regarding the high temperature: special stands are sold for laptops that can reduce the temperature by 5-10 ° C (degrees Celsius).

Checking the work of antiviruses [limiting them]

Both viruses and antiviruses can significantly affect the performance of your computer, and not only in games. In general, for many people on this issue, it is essential to go to extremes ...

One extreme: an antivirus is not needed at all, and all programs (from different sources) are launched without any verification. As a result, many people grab a banner on the desktop floor, open tabs, delete files, or face the loss personal information etc. Then they spend a lot of time on curing, removing the virus infection (much more time than they would have spent on installing and configuring one antivirus).

The other extreme: so afraid of viruses that they install several security programs, check each file with 2-3 antiviruses, constantly test something there, etc. In my opinion, for most users, it is enough to have one normal antivirus on your PC (which is regularly updated) and from time to time do backups important documents, data on other media.

Advice! Ways to install 2 antivirus software on a PC -

And then, before starting the game, turn off all antivirus software, and compare - whether the performance of the game improved with the antivirus turned on and off. Very often the results are amazing!

By the way, many modern antiviruses have a special Game Mode .

For those who have discrete and integrated video cards

If you have two video cards (integrated and discrete), then you may encounter one "interesting" feature. The fact is that while you are working in Windows, the integrated video card (or it is also called integrated) is usually involved. When starting games, discrete should be launched, but this does not always happen. As a result, the integrated card "does not cope", the FPS is low (the game starts to slow down).

The screenshot below shows the difference in the number of FPS in the WOW game when playing on integrated (left) and discrete (right) video cards. By the way, the game runs on the same laptop.

FPS difference between discrete and integrated graphics

If you are in doubt about how many graphics cards you have, open device Manager (to open it: press the combination Win + R, enter the command devmgmt.msc) ... Next, open the "Video adapters" tab. For example, a variant with 2 video cards is presented below: IntelHD 5500, Nvidia GeForce 920M.

There can be quite a few reasons why the game does not start on a discrete card. In order not to repeat myself here, I will give a link to one of my articles. (it will help to force the launch of the game on a discrete video card) :

Add-ons are, as always, welcome ...

Good luck and high FPS!

Hello everyone. Today I will tell you about a program that can easily increase FPS in any game, even on a weak computer! More precisely, there will be 2 programs - for Nvidia and AMD / ATI video cards. The programs allow you to make deep settings for the video card driver and disable everything that can affect the increase in FPS in games. Download the archive by clicking the download button. Inside the archive there will be 2 folders for Nvidia graphics cards and AMD / ATI. Depending on which video card you have installed, unzip the desired folder and run or install the program you need. If you do not know which video card you have, you can download the program and find out through it. I will show everything in more detail in my video about increasing FPS.

Configuring the program for NVIDIA video cards

After unzipping the program, run the "nvidiaInspector.exe" file. I recommend running the program as an administrator. Next, find the Driver Version line and click on the icon at the end of the line.

NVIDIA Profile Inspector will launch. In it, you can select settings for all games or only for those with low FPS. In the application, we are most interested in a few lines:

  • Antialiasing - Transparency Supersamling. Set the value AA_MODE_REPLAY_MODE_ALL
  • Texture filtering - LOD Bias (DX). We put any value +, the more + the worse the textures in the game will be, but there will be more FPS.
  • Texture filtering - LOD Bias (OGL).We put any value +, the more + the worse the textures in the game will be, but there will be more FPS.

Now see how the game will look like:

Thanks to this manipulation, you can increase the FPS in the game by 5 times! For more details on these settings, see my video:

Increasing FPS for AMD \ ATI video cards

After unzipping the program, run the file "attsetup.exe" and install the program, do not touch any checkboxes. After installation, run the program. I want to write right away that the program is old and does not work on Windows 10, for more old windows works fine. Next, do this:

  • We are looking for the Direct3D button -> Settings -> Additional.
  • We see the line of LOD textures and move the slider to the right, for example, to a value of 7.0 (the most blurry mode) and press the apply button.

We get almost the same as described above, the FPS increases 5-7 times, but the textures become blurry. Here is such a slight increase in FPS even on old hardware!

For owners of a powerful zhelaz, you can also increase the FPS quite well by overclocking the video card, I showed this in this video:

You have now maximized the FPS of games on your PC!

FPS is the number of frames per second. The indicator, as a rule, Reflects the true performance of your video card and computer as a whole. If it is low and does not exceed 30 frames, then you can not even dream of a comfortable game. At the same time, FPS is very important for specialists in such areas as: graphic design, 3D modeling and animation. With freezes and lags during the work of programs, the results will be far from ideal. How to increase FPS in games?

Processes

First of all, what you need to pay attention to is the workload of the central processor. Each of us is used to a large number open tabs browser and programs, but this has a detrimental effect on the final speed of the system. Handle your computer with care and attention: disable unnecessary applications in a timely manner, and also close the browser when starting games. Following these simple tips can help you almost double your frame rate!

In addition to the browser, an application such as Skype deserves special attention. Despite the fact that the program weighs very little, during a call it consumes a considerable part of the computer's resources. To avoid unpleasant moments, simply turn off Skype during the game or use another utility for voice communication: RedCall or TeamSpeak.

Dust

Few people guess, but dust is the most formidable enemy of any electronics and technology. Every day, it settles not only on shelves and books, but also on motherboards computer and, in particular, on cooling radiators. In just 2-3 months, dust can completely clog the heatsinks, which leads to a sharp rise in the processor temperature and adversely affects its operation.

If you cannot remove the dust yourself, then contact a specialized computer service - for a few hundred rubles, the wizard can easily remove all dust and dirt from the system unit, and also diagnose the performance of the PC.

Customization

Pay special attention to the game or program itself. At the expense of modern technologies, developers allow users to independently customize programs so that they consume fewer resources.

Use medium or minimum settings that will allow you to play with high FPS. Of course, the quality of the displayed image will be several times lower than we would like, but the animation will become much smoother and more comfortable for the eyes.

Drivers

A driver is a connecting component between the hardware and software parts of a computer. Therefore, it is very important to know that drivers are installed on your PC. latest versions that provide maximum efficiency and stability. You can check for the latest versions on the manufacturers' official website.

First of all, you need to update the drivers for the following components:

  • graphics card- is responsible for the FPS and the quality of the transmitted image;
  • motherboard- communication between different devices;
  • windows- availability of updates.

Windows

The operating system also requires a lot of resources, especially if your version is higher than Windows XP. In such cases it is necessary to change the parameters to "Maximum speed" in order to reduce the load on the central processor of the computer. Appearance The desktop will change a little, but after the game you can switch the theme back if the Windows 98 style scares you.
