My Dialog keyboard (hyperlink to the review) is good for everyone: small size, comfortable layout, multimedia keys, bright backlighting. Its only drawback is that when you press the keys, they make a very unpleasant, rattling sound. You don't notice this during the day, but at night the "noisy" keys get in the way. And since I have to type at night, and in order not to disturb the sleep of others, I decided to modify the keyboard (it's a pity to throw away such a thing) by making a noiseless keyboard.

This is what the keyboard looks like before starting the upgrade.

First you need to get all the keys. On this keyboard, the buttons are very easy to get, just insert a regular screwdriver into the slot between the keys. The main thing is not to confuse the order of the keys, I did not write down their position, but simply laid them out as they are located on the keyboard.

Then you need to disassemble the keyboard, for this you need to unscrew 11 screws. The white frame that runs along the entire keyboard is a luminous film, it is through it that the keys are backlit.

With the analysis of the keyboard finished. Now let's move on to the soundproofing substrate. For its manufacture, I used polyethylene foam, it is usually used for packaging various household appliances.

Two rectangular pieces must be cut out of polyethylene: one for the main keyboard, the other for the additional (digital) keyboard.

The next step is to cut holes for the keys in the polyethylene backing. In order not to be mistaken with the marking of the holes, I put the substrate on top of the backlight and circled the dark squares with a pen - these are the seats for the keys. The main thing is that the squares should be cut a little less than the keys, otherwise no sound insulation will work. The danger that the polyethylene can ignite is excluded, because the key backlight does not heat up during operation.

Now everything is ready and, therefore, you can start assembling. We put the cut out substrates on the backlight, and then insert the keys. It is best to insert the keys around the edges first and then move to the center. This is not necessary, but this way of installing the keys will save you from shifting the substrate, all the holes will fit, and will not be where they should not be.

Well, that's all, the keyboard is ready to go and will no longer cause problems for me and others. After assembly, the keys are pressed noticeably quieter, while the keyboard still glows brightly in the dark. And all that was needed was nothing: a little patience, but growing hands from the right place that will allow you to make a silent keyboard.
